Router without mobile data backup – Optus keep insisting on providing WiFi 5 routers even though we have a much better WiFi 6 router (Asus AX88u) with wifi 6 and 8 ethernet ports. The only thing we use the Optus modem for is for the phone line (VOIP). To do this you have to pass the modem's IP address of the 5366 (192.168.0.1) through the Asus router. We have a second VOIP line… Read more
from Vonex with a Linksys VOIP box. Both VOIP services pass throught the Asus router and work just fine. Nobody else has two VOIP lines running on one router: It's supposed to be impossible. Couldn't get the Linksys VOIP box to work with the 5366 TN.
The internet is provided via an NBN cable modem: NBN modem -> Asus Router -> 5366
N.B. Performance improves when modem/router/VOIP functions are split out. Crashing is much more common on devices with integrated functions i.e. As more functions are used devices are more prone to locking up and require regular rebooting.
5366 TN -Only has wifi 5 (AC): WiFi 6 (AX) has been available for ages & WiFi 7 (BE) is now becoming common -Has no mobile data backup N.B. 5366 LTE has 4G mobile data backup -Wifi doesn't cover an entire house -No external antennas i.e. Limited ability to direct or receive the signal -Control panel is accessed via 192.168.0.1 with user name and password on back of modem -Control panel is fairly basic -Optus restricts access to some control panel features -Never gets any firmware updates -Keeps working 24/7/365 without crashing or requiring a reboot. -Been running for ~5 years now without problems -Wifi on/off button on front of unit is easy to access and use -4 ethernet ports: 8 would be better as we have 6 ethernet connected devices -VOIP quality is OK most of the time -Ethernet ports are rated to 1 GB/s: The ethernet ports should be capable of >1 GB/s to avoid being throttled -Relatively small upright rectangular box: Either white or black -No QoS (Quality of Service) -No info about the CPU is available -Includes DSL (which is not being used) -Includes USB-C connector
As we're asking so little of the 5366 it's not surprising that it keeps working without problems. The only time it's annoying is when the Optus network goes down: Because the 5366 TN has no 4G mobile data backup. Time to dig out the 4G 5366 LTE?
There's not much info about this modem on the internet so took apart the modem and found: The 5366 TN contains a Broadcom BCM63137 1GHz dual core Arm Cortex A9 SoC (System on a Chip).
This SoC is part of Broadcom's BCM63xx series, which integrates various functionalities such as DSL connectivity, routing, and support for external wireless network interface controllers. The BCM63137, in particular, is tailored for high-speed VDSL connections, making it suitable for advanced broadband applications.
There are 7 internal antennas (4x 5GHz & 3x 2.5 Ghz) of various sizes oriented in different directions and of different sizes. Fortunately they're all well marked so you don't have too much trouble reconnecting them correctly. A series of 5 boards are connected presumably so that you can upgrade or redesign different parts of it as required e.g. DSL and USB is on one board. The WAN and ethernet are on another board. The VOIP ports are on a third port. The LED's are on a small daughter board. CPU and antenna are on the main board. Unfortunately it can be quite time consuming to pull these modems apart... and put them back together. It's a bit like putting a jigsaw together. To get to the CPU everything had to be taken apart. It wasn't possible to access most parts without first pulling off some other part. Every major chip or group of chips seemed to contain a substantial (passive) heatsink... in the form of a flat metal sheet mounted on a metal frame. A heat transfer pad is usually inserted to wick the heat from the chips to the metal. This seems to work well as the 5366TN doesn't seem to have problems overheating.
Optus just sent a newer 5393 LTE modem with wifi 6 and 4G mobile data backup... so the 5366 TN and 5366 LTE are now retired.
:-)
Doesn't last longer than 12 months – Optus sent me one of these modems to replace my old Saegemcom F@ST 3864, which was already replacing another Saegomcom F@ST 3864, though the 3864 worked (and still does) just fine.. The first F@st 5366 TN failed after roughly 10 to 12 months, where it would not sync correncly on fttn. When once it synced at 50/18 for my 50/20 service, it started… Read more
syncing at around 20/18, so it was replaced. Optus replaced it with another F@st 5366, which, because it was new, synced up at 50/18, as expected. It wasn't until a few days ago now, and roughly 10 to 12 months since I've been using this second one, that it too showed the same failure, though limiting sync speed to 13/6. As I refuse to use any more optus modems (the latest wifi rendition is $253 according to their web site), I'm now using a D-Link DSL-3785, which syncs quite reliably at 50/16 or so. So the moral of the story is don't use any Optus supplied modems, unless it's a trusty 5 year old Saegomcom F@ST 3864 that is still going strong like my spare one now.
2024 UPDATE: As of around late 2022. I cancelled my NBN ,(and hence fFTTN) with Optus. Since then, I have bought a new 5G Samsung phone, and now use it as a hotspot for my internet connectivity. Speedtest on the phone reliably reports speeds of at least 280/10 to 40p/50 on Telstrra 5G.
I will not be returning to the NBN anytime soon, and if I do, it will be only be on FTTP connectivity, upgraded from FTTN .
Works great. Does not drop out and the speed is excellent – Received from Optus and is 10 times better than the previous model. Connects all the devices at home. Can't complain. Coverage is good and have not noticed any drop connections. Show details
Not good but gets the job done – The interface is slow and buggy- you cannot even change the DNS or see many advanced settings. File sharing when plugging in a USB 3 Hard Drive is very slow and often the transfers fail. Wi-Fi signal is good but the bandsterring seems to have some issues unlike other modems. At least it is easy to set up- you can just plug it in and turn it on. Show details
So much better than the previous modem – Received this modem a few days ago. So far so good. My up and down speeds are basically what I am paying for. 50, 20. Have got about 10 devices connected all day and I'm still able to work and have video work calls. Very satisfied. Show details
Feel like im paying for 3G on a 5G plan – The modern looks great but thats where it stops, 5G has never worked, contacting optus is unheard-of and impossible to get through or get honesty, whilst they keep charging full NBN rate even though its a scam, optus if your reading this please explain and when do we all get reimbursed, because you're still doing it now. Excellent for an ISP Modem – I got this last year as I switched from Vodafone to Optus. 4G works perfectly for days when out of service. The modem is easy to set up for simple networking. We have 14-20 devices connected at any time and there is no buffering. The UI is friendly and easy to follow. The range is excellent, we don't need any wifi extenders for a four-bedroom… Read more
house. I have not had a single dropout due to the modem since last year. I just plug the media in the USB and watch movies on my Smart TV. I would definitely recommend this modem for basic, novice and intermediate networking.
its ok – the connectivity is ok but i only get around 100 mbps when its probably 10-15 meters away when its meant to be 1000 mbps, even when im right next to it i only get 250mbps. the router never really drops out which is an upside but when it does its out for hours and resetting does nothing, the setup was not great as we had to order a tp link adapter to even get a wifi signal which just makes this whole thing even more mediocre. overall not great. I have had no issues – I haven't had any issues with the router, I just wish it had more ethernet ports. The internet speed is really good and the router at least looks nice. OK Show details
So far so good ❤ – I switched from CABLE to NBN, in April 2020, Sagemcom Gateway F@st 5366 TN has been very reliable and I couldn't be happier. I would recommend it to anyone from my personal experience. Show details
Its Rubbish – Cant get the back up to work the sim card wont communicate with the Optus mobile tower .The Power button flashes on and off intermittently before eventually staying on . I have been waiting 3 days for their case Manager .All in all there service is appalling. Show details
Huawei is still best – Just check Facebook Marketplace...5366TN going for $40 while Huawei B818 $150. Sagemcom looks good on paper but over promises and under delivers... It's French after all. Amazing that some would give it a 5star JUST because they manage to get it to work... somewhat.
Works well, but lacks an instruction manual – I was provided this modem (FAST5366TN-A) by Optus free of charge as part of my switch to the NBN, as my old modem (a Netgear DGN2200, also supplied by Optus) was incompatible with fibre connections such as the NBN. I did encounter a major issue when setting up the modem for the first time, which, after a number of calls to Optus' technical support… Read more
team, was discovered to be due to a faulty Ethernet cable that was supplied with the modem, which I was thankfully able to work around using a second Ethernet cable that was also supplied. The modem works well, and my only real complaint is that the modem's configuration U.I. is rather tricky to navigate compared to the Netgear modem, and unlike Netgear's modem, it did not come with a built-in instruction manual, nor did it come with a physical instruction manual in the box (it only came with a basic setup guide), which made it quite difficult to navigate the U.I. and configure the device. This was a relatively small problem for me, as I am quite good at I.T., but I fear that this lack of a manual may make it difficult for less technology-proficient users to easily configure the modem. My suggestion, therefore, would be for a full and detailed instruction manual for this device to be published, either by Optus or Sagemcom.

Useless Router – I've been given 4 of these by Optus and each one has failed, the latest not even lasting 2 weeks. 2.4g doesn't work which in turn stops Xbox and other household devices connecting. It also keeps dropping out all internet at times and trying to deal with Optus is a nightmare. Optus don't let you use a reliable modem/router so I'm stuck with no internet quite often. Show details
Optus cheap load of garbage – Now on our 3rd one of these. This is the biggest lemon since the AU Falcon. Whatever you do dont get caught with one of these. Only useful as a snapper weight for deep sea fishing. Wish I could give a 0 star rating.....
Works Great – Have had this new modem/ router for 2 weeks now, Optus replaced the old version after constant dropouts, this one has worked perfectly, easy to set up and phone line works, happy customer. Show details
So far so good – Had an older Optus modem/router, which Optus replaced it with the F@st 5366 TN. So far so good. My internet speeds have increased, and so far no drop outs. I am happy!
Failed within two weeks of NBN installation – I recently transferred to NBN FTTC. The F@ST 5366TN was supplied as standard. Within two weeks of the swap over, it failed. Initially annoying drop outs, no internet connection, although all the stars LEDs showed no errors. Went through 3-4 days of tests with a very helpful Optus tech who found nothing wrong with the NBN side. It was decided to… Read more
swap the 5366TN. I have now been without full NBN access for 7 days. Using mobile and/or older Netgear WIFI access point to tether for work commitments. Very annoyed having to wait so long.
'Bewdiful' – My old Sagemcom modem went kaput a couple of weeks ago, and was replaced with a Sagemcom 5366TN. The new modem was easy to set up, and gives me about a 6% increase in both download and upload speed over the old modem. What more can I say - it’s ‘bewdiful’.
Great (though i think it depends on what nbn connection you have) – Ok so first i want to go and say the specs: -Sagemcom F@ST 5366tn (primary) -Sagemcom F@ST 3864v3 HP (as an access point) -Linksys RE6300 range extender i have a HFC connection and i do not notice any drop outs, connection and signal strength is alot stronger than the 3864, and performs well. like i said i think it may depend on the NBN… Read more
connection type. Also, change the channel... I named both 2.4ghz and 5ghz same name and it works just fine (devices do connect to the individual bands depending on range)
Not for newbies – This modem rocks. Just ensure you have clean channels and a good phone line. I have two connected. One in an office NBN phone and fax, one elsewhere as an access point. Rock steady. Very happy. Obviously not in same class as Netgear or Asus AX gear, but hey, its free! Show details
Frequent drop outs – We migrated to optus nbn network and started using this modem. There has been frequent dropouts. Sometimes you are connected to network with no internet. It has good led display of icons which is helpful is understanding what is not working. Given a choice I will go for upgrade of device. Show details

Disgraceful – Since we got with Optus for the NBN we had countless issues.....drop outs weekly, sometimes more the a week...spending hours every time on a mobile phone to contact Optus NBN....had technicians come and check 3 times....and we are now on modem number 4 (four) but problems are getting worse and more frequently. The modem supplied to us is a… Read more
Sagemcom F@st 5366 and has only 1 star reviews and bad comments. Why keep supplying us with them inferior products
Faults dropping internet connectivity - MyRepublic replaced one already, more faults now – When it works it is great. However, it faults regularly (weekly), dropping internet connectivity. A restart sometimes clears that fault but sometimes does not, leaving you without the internet. If you let it cool down (next day) it sometimes works again. So far I have had one replaced by MyRepublic (after ~ 12 months of service) and I'm… Read more
trying to get them to replace another one as it keeps dropping out internet connectivity too (after less than 6 months of service).
I've had to go out and get a replacement modem myself so I can work reliably from home and not have to wait for MyRepublic to be convinced into sending me a replacement (which takes a while as they insist on you testing the system with their techs on the chat site which can take a long time and requires dropping your internet connection).
My advice is that if you have a choice, steer well clear of this Sagemcom modem. It is not reliable.
the worst ever never going to use again – iv been using this modem since they come out and has been the worst one yet. if your looking to use optus my opinion is buy your own modem as this one is terrible. Show details
A very poor router – This Optus-supplied NBN Router appears to have completely died after only 54 days service. All tests to resuscitate it have failed. Dead as a door nail. No lights, nothing. Optus is sending another in between 3-5 business days (too long). I don't want another Sagemcom. I want one as reliable as the modem that Optus supplied pre NBN that did not miss a beat in over a decade.
