Notes: Always set the Refrigerator compartment to OPTIMAL = 4 in Winter. In Summer you can adjust to 4-6 to make it cooler but NEVER go BELOW 4

My observation. There is only 1 condenser and 1 fan. I would set and stabilise the main refrigerator temp first as the controller in the refrigerator appears to be the only electronic interface to the compressor. Once that is stable THEN adjust the freezer controller which is purely a mechanical adjustment - controlling very cold airflow in the freezer compartment. Refrigerator = +5deg. Freezer = -15deg'

14/8/22. Problem. Water leaking into the main compartment via light. Unplugged fridge, emptied

FREEZER Section: Problem was water appearing in the fridge door trays overnight. This would have become a problem if you were away from the house for a while - 1 week. I removed power from fridge, emptied Freezer & fridge compartments - pulled out from wall and found the compressor drip tray was dry - which means water from inside the fridge / freezer not draining. Unscrewed freezer fan and GENTLY removed panel. Un-plugged 2 connectors. Unscrewed refrigerator temp controller panel to investigate. 1 connector to disconnect. The freezer condenser was very frozen - used hair dryer to defrost - still no water into the drip tray at the back of fridge - instead it appeared inside the main compartment of the refrigerator - tried pouring boiling water into the freezer trough. This very slowly worked - get a turkey baster or a steamer next time to help for easier access - i also used black RF aerial cable inserted into the drain tube from the back/bottom to assist in clearing the blockage - above the drip tray - still no luck - it went a long way up but then stopped without appearing inside fridge 'trough' - waited another 1 hr or so - tried HW again and wallah it worked. I thought I would retry the aerial cable again now that it was working but it still didn't show itself even though the trough was now draining freely. Go figure. ( I found out later that the pipe has a serious bend in it preventing it from passing thru to the trough - st^pid design error

I repaired because of water issues appearing in the Refrigerator top door compartments in Winter. Water appears to be coming from the Refrigerator LED light. Forums indicate this is because of the drain tube being blocked.... presumably from ice.... Observations (mine) - i reckon the refrigerator round controller controls the overall operation. There is 1 fan to do both the freezer & fridge. the sliding control in the freezer is purely mechanical - allowing less cold air to circulate into the main refrigerator when to the left and more cold air when to the right which makes it colder.

Had to do this again on 31/7/25. Same problem. Big job. All food out of freezer & fridge. Main condenser & drip tray located in freezer compartment. 2 screws behind 2 white plastic buttons. Use large plastic orange prise bars.. this time I had a turkey baster & a steamer!! made use of the steamer do help get rid of built up ice in the drain tube. Seemed to work well by poking the steam nozzle up the drain tube above the water tray under the fridge. I also removed the big cover in the main fridge. Be careful of wires. Take photos. Photos stored in my library 31/7/25. I had also purchased a Samsung defrost clip (recommended) from Amazon but I couldn't see how I could make this fit as drip tray under the condenser difficult to access. Other models seem to have easier access from watching DIY videos from ˜the University of Utube!!"

Hey Agrud, sorry to hear about your experience. I would suggest contacting Samsung to have your unit assessed. If it is easier for you, you can also visit one of our Authorised Repair Centres and go through them too.

To provide a solution the unit must be assessed and further reviewed, to do so please contact Samsung to start.

Having wrote couple of answers trying to help. Final from my view is have a thermometer in freezer see if reach -18°C (or ice cream in tub isn't as hard frozen) Possible cause ..1, defect thermistor. 2,compressor wearing out. 3, electronics pcb issues. 4, Ready for new fridge. Could cost more trying to fix white goods.

They sell junk, not worth repairing, just buy a more reputable brand.

Sad thing is it is still cooling and freezing fine, so I am not keen on junking it, as this seems wasteful. Very frustrating that there is a design fault Samsung won't acknowledge.

You are right in saying that this is quite a common fault with this particular Fridge/Freezer from Samsung. Your method of trying to unblock the lines from icing up may be worth a go. I had to get a refrigeration engineer in to sort out the problem, and it's been working okay since then.

Mine worked very well initially, perfect size for a single aged pensioner. I submitted a positive review. Later. I did notice that the sides used to get very warm, this was terrible in summer but as winter came, I noticed the warm sides served as a heater as well in warming up my tiny room. On contacting customer service, they informed me that all mentioned issues were normal and not to worry. Always silent when running, ice cream was always soft, but the fridge was quiet. Then after a few years of silent running you could hear noise and internal dripping sounds because my fridge is about 2 metres from my bed, I could clearly hear every sound it made.

After a few months before winter, the fridge made no sounds at all, the ice cream, cheese, frozen meals and the entire fridge contents were all warm and thawed out. I phoned customer service who said the few years of warranty had run out, and it will cost in excess of 300-500 in total to repair. I disposed of the fridge and purchased a new one LG Brand. This LG is not silent running, but I now have nice frozen ice cream. The fridge is Very Noisy during operation. Sounds like hammering, all sorts of creaking and banging sounds. Again, I phoned service for this LG fridge, who also told me that is normal. Heard this before? In summary of fridges, don't read other people's opinions. As you will only bring disappointment into your life. We don't get fridge's like we did many years ago. I had one for over 20yrs. Today there only good for a few years then you buy a new one. Cheers.

I tried unplugging it for 4 days and it's been two days since I plugged it back in, no leaking. Let's hope it's fixed itself. Thanks Terrance and Ann O. for posting this solution

Test results are in. Fridge unplugged for 3.5 days both doors left open during this period. No apparent signs of water melting from the internal defrost hose which was a little concerning ‘until’……. I removed the lower crisper drawer. There would have been 300ml of the defrost water sitting there …

I am hoping but feel somewhat confident that issue has been resolved … let’s hope for another few years at least!

With so many people have same issue, I have too, I contacted Samsung, was told this is not on common issue list, will not give any support but 15%off if I want to buy another Samsung fridge. What a joke. Will never buy Samsung

I have the same issue, mine is also 6 years old, but they have said if it's their fault I won't have to pay for the service.Get on to Samsung. Be persistent as they can muck you around a fair bit. Tech coming Monday so I am hoping they can fix it. Will update there after.

Samsung are hopeless, you can expect to call them 6 times only to feel they "escalate" your problem, but eventually when you reach the top, they say, "nothing we can do".........i know your leaking fridge is because the freezer section is icing up in the passage where it blows cold air into the lower fridge , this ice slowly melts and drips out where your light is in the fridge compartment....a independent sales person told me quote" 5 to 6 years is about right these days for a 1000 dollar fridge"

I've got exactly the same issue, just started this week. Have had this fridge 6yrs and have had no issues otherwise.

This is a very typical issue with these fridges. I have the exact same problem and I know what the problem is. My friends who had Samsung fridge had all same issue but they were lucky to have extended warranty and Samsung service kept going to their home to fix it once a while. Well done Samsung. The problem is Very bad design. Honestly all I can think of is that Samsung intentionally designed it like that so that you would have to use them in future for servicing. Now let’s talk about what the issue is. Behind the freezer section (evaporator) there is a tray with a hole that condensed water drains through that hole. However the hole gets clogged so water remains there and then it freezes and then eventually it overflows to your fridge. Solution: melt the ice with hot water then unclog the drain but … BIG BUT… The drain is design incredibly bad such that you can’t easily unblock it because there is a plastic layer under the drain hole and you can’t really see where the actual draining is to unblock it. I tried very hard last time with a thin wire and eventually managed to open it and it worked for a year and now it is clogged again but this time no matter how much I try, I can’t unblock it because I can’t see the actual draining point where it is clogged. Why is there a plastic layer under that hole to make it impossible to see the actual draining point? What is that for? Can Samsung explain?

You can't fix it. We have exactly the same issue (our fridge is 7 years old, all good except for leaking) and spent a fair amount of time researching the matter. You either live with it or buy a new fridge. We just bought a new one. Not happy.

Hi Jane, I have the same Samsung Fridge /Freezer, model SR468MW, top mount. Water is leaking from the light, just below the Freezer compartment. It's only 6 years old. Did you get your fault fixed ?, did Samsung offer any advice ? Thanks, Chris, Sunshine Coast.

Just encountering the exact same problem as all the other posters here. This is obviously a design fault, are Samsung willing to help?

No but I have exactly the same problem. Called Samsung, was told only way to get this repaired was through one of their authorised service centres (who are just trained local fridge mechanics). They weren't even will to share their repair or wiring diagrams with me so I could try and disassemble it myself to try and avoid the exorbitant costs of using their service centres.

Our fridge had been working fine for a good 6yrs, and now in the last 12mths, we've had the water leaking into the egg trays in the door and onto the top shelf coming through the light.

It's obviously something wrong inside, either a hose has come loose or perished somewhat. And a fridge mechanic friend of mine spent most of a day looking at it trying to figure it out but couldn't work out how to remove the back of the fridge to see the plumbing.

Hi, We are having the exact same problem. It seems like a blocked drain pipe as there is no water at all in the drain pan. the problem is I can't find the top of the drain pipe to clear the blockage? Can anyone tell me how to get to the top of the drain hose or pipe? Thankyou
