"Scanpan" knives..previously a great product..NOW..don't waste your money! – I bought "Scanpan Spectrum" knife after having to discard "Wiltshire Staysharp" (waste of money...their product deteriorated in quality...big time !)..and saw all reviews on the Scanpan...most so bad and no explanation from the makers ! (I've had EXACTLY same problem with my knife..: paint flaking off and therefore ..: a health hazard !) WHY do… Read more

the sellers/manufacturers do this...that is : make such BAD products ??!! It's counterproductive to assume we'll just accept it and buy another one ! I will NOT, that's for sure ! They degrade an excellent product, hoping sales will increase ,despite it not being as good nor lasting as long ! I will just buy another brand ! (Maybe ALL products are the same ...: rubbish !!?..)

Paint – Anyone who buys these knives for food preparation knows nothing about hygiene the paint will wear off and go into the food

Not safe. Paint flakes off into food – After a couple of months these knives start flaking paint onto food as it is cut. Very unsafe. Makes these otherwise great knives unusable... Show details

Steak knives with rust marks – My wife bought 2 dozen Scanpan Spectrum steak knives only about 5 months ago. According to their instructions we have been washing these manually instead of the dishwasher. Some have rust areas along the blade. As these are supposed to be 'stainless steel' I don't know why they have rust marks on them? Are these now made using an inferior… Read more

stainless steel? I thought that Scanpan was supposed to be a superb Swedish brand that's why we went for these instead of a cheap K-Mart brand. we had 'cheap' brand knives before these (we just needed more better handled ones) and these HAVE NOT rusted even after 20 years. I wish that someone from Scanpan can see this review and offer a proper reply why this has happened? We also purchased an expensive Scanpan frypan and the coating of this bubbled up when it should not have, was exchanged but it has happened again

Scanpan rusty stainless knives – I bought Scanpan Spectrum 6pc Steak Knife Set Black from Kitchen Warehouse. I used the knives a couple of times, using them for general tasks including cutting meat but also for buttering bread. This was the reason that I bought them. They have a rounded edge that allows for multi-use. I asked the woman in the shop about them, and she told me… Read more

that there were others that didnt have the cheap looking plastic handles. However, I wanted a knife that worked, not a fashion accessory.

I washed them by hand in normal dishwashing liquid. I didnt dry them, but allowed them to sit in the rack to dry. This isnt unusual for me as I've done the same thing for the cheap traditional steak knives that I've had for over 30 years. The wooden handles of these knives now look sad, but the blades still look fine and cut ok.

The problem with the Scanpan knives is that they rusted along the cutting edge. Not one knife but several. It's the quality of the stainless steel. They are a cheaply made knife, but it's more than that. The stainless steel isn't up to standard required by a knife.

I'm surprised that the knives have been rated so highly. I do remember returning a push bike to a dealer years ago because of the broken stainless steel spokes and he told me that the reason that they broke were that they were from a bad batch. Maybe that's the reason here but I'm sceptical.

Dangerous ! Paint on my childs toast ! – I have had a set of the scanpan knifes and forks for just over a year now, thought the kids would like the bright colours and thick soft handles, but now, i have noticed colour on my child's toast !! the painted finish, Is coming off and being ingested by my kids on their food ! Im appalled ! and to be honest quite distressed, how dangerous has… Read more

Plastic handles disintegrating – Had two of these knives bought for general use a few years ago but the plastic coating on the handles cracking and flaking. Possible for it to end up in the food one is cutting! Am wondering where these were made and if a copy made using their Brand?

Not bad for camping – I purchased these specifically to keep in our camping kit. The great thing is that they come with a protective plastic hard cover which makes them perfect for the purpose. However I did find that they seem to lose their edge rather quickly compared to the more pricey and better kinves that live in my kitchen at home. I think if you're using… Read more

these outside the home like I am it would certainly be worth at least investing in additional honing steel to keep them in good condition. Considering they're pretty cheap I actually have 2 in our camper. Sometimes more than one person is chopping up veggies and stuff for dinner......or one can be used for raw meat and another for veg.

Really though considering the price you can't expect that much and of course the colour is going to come off if you sharpen them etc. I think they will require more work to keep them sharp compared to more expensive counterparts.... I've noticed they seem to blunt quicker so appear to need more frequent honing than the knives I have at home. I imagine with a lot of use they would need more frequent sharpening too.

Health warning – After a year my knives are blunt. But more importantly the paint has started to come off anf i have found fragments of it in my food, thus contaminating it. This is a health hazard. I will not be using these knives again.  Show details

Its so blunt, cant seem to sharpen it. What di I do? Thats why I am here – I too bought a scanpan knife. It seemed fine to start with but all I have is a blunt knife and cant quite figure out how to sharpen. Have tried the traditional way with a sharpening 'file' but its not working.  Show details

Won't be buying again – Got given a scanpan spectrum knife, have been using it for about 12 months and the blade is covered in scratches. Recently bought a scanpan spectrum carving knife, used it once and the fork has chips of paint off it. Won't be buying any scanpan spectrum products again, will invest in something non painted and better quality

Scanpan Spectrum Knives – I have bought quite a few of these in many different colours. Thought they'd be easier to locate in my drawer. I have also bought some for presents. I've now found that paint is coming off the knives. This is not good. Scanpan is a great brand. They should ensure this doesn't happen. Yes I'm now throwing mine out. I won't get caught again with Scanpan.

Fantastic Utensil – I was looking for a spoon that could be both a stirrer and a server and this does both fantastically. The wide spoon means you get good coverage in the pan but it's still able to scrap ingredients out of tubs. The most unique feature is its little "feet" that allow the spoon head to be elevated off the kitchen bench when resting. It took a little… Read more

while to get used to this as putting a spoon down like that on a bench goes against my instincts, but I've found the feature very handy.

Scanpan Spectre Chefs knife Blue – I thought and brought this scanpan chefs knife on reputation.I thought it was a good quality brand.I cut a firm block of butter with it just now and the handle snapped in half! Completely snapped on butter I couldnt believe it.This is absolute rubbish and couldnt possibly recomend to anyone.Keeping an edge on it was also impossible. However will toss it in the trash and not have to worry anymore.I was cheap so I should of learned

Cannot recommend – I purchased a couple of the knives, a pair of scissors and the sharpening tool. The knives are very hard to use even when sharpened they do not cut. When I rinsed the scissors and was drying the blades they separated. I am not sure that is a safety feature but I did put them together again They were inexpensive so I suppose you get what you pay for. So far the sharpening tool is good for my other knives.

Scanpan Spectrum Knives Health Hazard! – The sharpness of these knives is great, but the paint flaking off is not! When you cut into a block of cheese for example, it leaves a trail of coloured paint flecks behind! We have stopped using them as I don't think the human digestive tract was designed to digest paint!

Coloured Scanpan Knives Health Hazard ! – Great colours, too bad they do not stay on the knives . I do not like paint with my food, this must not be good for ones health to ingest this coating in to your stomach. I also found that they had to be sharpened more than my other knives either cheap or expensive. The colours and the plastic covers Flaking paint

Pricetags don't lie – You get what you pay for, they get blunt quite easily. I think I almost strained my wrist trying to chop a carrot because it just didn't cut through! I haven't had any experience with color coating comes off, or it broke. But it's cheap, and I'll have to settle with this until I've saved up for a proper knife set:) Cheap, attractive colors, ok for short period of time Gets blunt easily:(

Coloured Scanpan Knifes are rubbish! – I bought a couple of these Scanpan Knifes and the paint is coming off everywhere! I'll be chopping a potato for example and find paint flakes on the potato! Not a very safe product in my view! How do I get my money back or replacement with new knife that's only stainless steel! Such a poor product?? This product is just not excceptable Scanpan! NOT FOOD SAFE!! Colourful Paint comes off on your food

Ok for the home cook – I'm a chef, we used one of these scanpan knives from a free deal from one of our suppliers, not up to heavy usage thats for sure, blunt very quickly, and the paint has come off along the blade edge, due to sharpening it from it being blunt very quickly, maybe ok for the at home cook, but not up to the wear and tear of every day commercial kitchens. Colour was nice, until it was sharpened over and over... Everything.

Thank goodness they are cheap – I bought one of these knives believing it to be purple when in fact it is really a blue colour. I thought that being Scanpan brand it would be good quality despite the relatively cheap price. The first 2-3 uses were ok but it went blunt very quickly. Any attempts to sharpen the knife results in losing the colour from the blade. A matching colour cover for the blade. Poor quality

I just knocked one of my scanpan knives off the bench and it broke into two pieces, can't belive it I thought that theywere better quality than that!

Amazing – Colours add some more fun to cooking. So sharp and always easy to use and clean. Would recommend these knives to anyone. I mostly love the bread knife as it is hard to find one that is easy to use, clean, and have stay sharp for you. Recommended product for all. easy to use

Great colours – Absolutely loves this set. Colours are lovely, great sharpness. Had them for a couple of months now, the colours and sharpness are pretty consistent so far. I guess I am going to buy the sharpener to go with them, as they are here to stay now. Would recommend them to anyone. Great sharpness and colours  Show reply

Great price, Perfect knives and loves the colours – I loves these knives, they cut well and stay sharp. I love the colours and have lots of them. they come in a large range of styles. The bread knife is fantastic, so are the little paring knives. I also like the fact that they come with a plastic protective shield they are well priced, and inexpensive I found that over time the colour coating on the knives has started to come off.

Cute and very sharp knives! – I bought a pink Spectrum Chef's knife last year just because I loved the unique colour. It was the best knife, it came in it's own protective cover and is really very sharp. It is now my favourite kitchen knife. Although used on Junior Masterchef, it is not made of plastic as I originally thought (silly me), it is a proper stainless steel knife… Read more

and unlike the previous reviewer I would be hesitant to give it to a child to use. So cheap! None at the moment.

Best Kitchen Knives Ever – I was looking for a good-quality knife that would slide through food, rather than sticking to it, and I saw the range of Scanpan knives at various kitchen shops - the pretty colour range caught my eye, especially as I love red in my kitchen and the range includes a very nice red colour. Initally, I just bought the utility knife as it was on a… Read more

special for only $5 and I figured it wasn't much of a loss if it turned out to be a disappointment. However, it was far from that - it was the best knife I had ever used. The coating is wonderful as it does exactly what I was hoping for: it glides through!

So I eventually ended up buying the full range of knives including the bread knife, and the cheese knife set - and the kitchen scissors - and they are the only knives I now use. My brothers and my father were so impressed with the range, after seeing my knives, that they went out and bought a full set too! The non-stick coating on the knives, the feeling of them in the hand while using them, and the attractive colour range available. The one and only problem that I have struck is that the coating does seem to wear off in spots if the knives are put into the dishwasher, so I now hand-wash them. Also, I bought the first one on the stregth of it being Danish, and the quality that I attach to that, but they are only designed in Denmark; they are acutally made in China. Still, they so seem to be of good quality.

Great – I have a few of these knives and find them to be very good, I love the scissors they are really handy for the kitchen. I haven't had any problems with them so far and I am going to buy the sharpener for them. I have even bought some for friends. I love the colours and they are very cheap so I have bought a few different ones. Nothing so far
