of every design decision and tried his best to keep me within budget (he tried). He knew his stuff and had an answer for every question, including questions I did not think to ask. Second impressions also count and Project Coordinator, Sarah Magarey, was a godsend, beyond amazing. She went above and beyond the call of duty, making the selections for me when I was too time poor, and saving me from many off-script disasters when I wasn't. To call her a perfectionist is an understatement. Site Manager, Nick Zammit, was just as diligent. I experienced very few issues with the build overall and Nick attended to these promptly. There was a delay, but it was outside the team's control, and Nick moved heaven and earth to keep the build on track after this. You can tell when people take pride in their work and the finished product reflects the pride of these three awesome professionals.

The bones of our home were solid & we were keen to design something more traditional. Scott Salisbury Homes took our brief & nailed the design & price. Our L shaped home took on a complete new look, that of a Californian Bungalow, with room for all, 2 bathrooms and a magnificent Kitchen/Living area overlooking our pool. It created huge interest with regular passers-by as they watched the transformation.

We didn't want a McMansion, but rather something that would be functional, practical (where every room is used, but everyone has space) and with a quality finish - we originally looked for a stylistic type home, but actually ended up quite conventional (this was our doing, not SSH who put forward some great concepts). Through the process of meeting with Rick (sales) and Scott, then Mel (coordinator) and Mark (site supervisor), we nutted out exactly what we wanted - starting with our own house plan and then adopting their ideas, we ended up with a bespoke house that has now become a home.

SSH was very flexible in the working arrangements as we did it all in one go including demolition (which SSH organised), Block cut/retain, Aerobic Sewer, Shed, Swimming Pool, Rain Water Tanks and some of our own suppliers for some items for the house, plus we had significant trees (which caused us to move the house location at additional cost, only for that regulation to change during the build!) and we also had CFS requirements to work around (due to the house being a certain distance from the road) which also could have been avoided if we built where we originally wanted to on the block.

We built throughout 2012 (started April, moved in week before Xmas) with some delays from Council, but SSH was quickly on top of all Council dealings. There was an additional delay due to complex foundations (expected) and some rock, which pushed the main build efforts into the heart of winter (tough work for the brickies in an Adelaide Hills winter!). The delays were really around not getting the roof on before the rains came which subsequently caused some minor hiccups along the way (particularly with a steep drive causing some problems, particularly after it was trenched and a truck backed into it!).

With the roof on and the bricking done, the insides commenced which went along quite well. When time permitted, we also would be onsite regularly to meet with tradies that wanted their particular job to be perfect (mitering of tiles, position of tiles for best aesthetics, paint alignment between rooms/doors, electrical outlet positions, cabling options, etc) and I'm sure Mark developed a nervous twitch whenever he received a call from us.

Prior to move in, we did a walk through with SSH finding more 'touch up' items than we did. Malcolm then addressed this in a professional manner and when it came to the 3 month walk-thru, again SSH had a longer list of items to address than we did (generally all items were quite minor - paint touch ups, bit of silicone here and there, cleaning of splatters on brick work, etc). Even recently when we noticed a problem (9 months into the house), SSH addressed it immediately - fantastic post-sales and post-completion service.

Of course it can't all be brilliant and there was one issue that irked me (and cost a few $$ to address) with regards to the team used for the Foundation - whilst the finished product is great - the process to get there was not a great start to the project and leave a sour taste in our mouths.

Overall a great experience - very professional, the tradies were outstanding in particular the:

* brickies who were perfectionists - they rejected a lot of bricks

* tilers working with multiple wet areas and with porcelain tiles floor-to-ceiling

* electricians attention to detail and recommendations along the way Professional from start-to-finish; Post-Sale & Post-Completion service; Quality of product/trades
