Construction started in April 2025, and we received the handover in February 2026. Throughout the build, our interactions with the head office team and our site supervisor were consistent and professional. Our site supervisor, James Unthank, was a key part of our experience. He was reliable, easy to deal with, and always followed through on what he said. He addressed issues promptly and kept us informed, including coordinating with Structerre to update engineering plans where required. His communication and attention to detail gave us confidence during the build.

Like most builds, we had a few anxious moments along the way, but the SJD team responded well to our queries and kept things progressing. Communication from sales through to construction was clear and supportive.

Andy, the construction manager, completed our handover while James was away. He ensured everything was in order and took the time to address minor items, including delays with the cooktop. The team has continued to be responsive even after handover, which reflects well on their aftercare.

Overall, we are happy with the quality of workmanship and how the process was managed. The team has been attentive, professional, and supportive throughout.

did. We selected the Charleston 288, but mentioned a few of our desires to him, such as an office room, an additional bathroom if possible etc, and to be honest, we didn't think it could be done. The next morning, Nathan sent us an email titled 'This plan might work' along a draft plan which included everything we asked for. We knew at that moment that SJD homes were who we needed to go with. Throughout our whole interation, Nathan was so understanding of our all needs and nothing was ever too hard for him. Next was our interior consultant, Fiorella De Bona, from inspiration studios, who was absolutely amazing She took the time to understand what was in our head and really bring it to life. She really guided us as to what works well and what we might need to be mindful of. And last but not least, our site supervisor Aaron Walker, who was absolutely fantastic. He emailed us, sent photos and physically walked us through the house on the progress made after every stage and answered every question that we had patiently, even if some of them might have sounded silly. He made sure that the quality of the work done was of really high standard. We have such high praise for SJD Homes, and will definitely recommend them to anyone looking to build their dream home.

disappointing. Issued picked up at handover that were suppose to be rectified asap still have not been 8 months on. 3 month warranty works are still unfinished with no completion dates confirmed and design flaws within the house haven’t been corrected. We have been living in what feels like an incomplete worksite which is taking away from what was suppose to be our beautiful family home to share with our 4 children.

We built our first home, and here’s our journey with SJD Homes. We initially signed up for a house-and-land (H&L) package with a builder who went into administration just before our land settlement. This put us in a highly stressful situation, forcing us to quickly sign a contract with another construction company to ensure our mortgage was… Read more

processed by our lender. We visited multiple builders in the Berwick/Clyde display villages but struggled to find one with a design that suited our lot, meets our requirements, and fits our budget. Although we didn’t see anything suitable on the SJD Homes website, we reached out to their incredible and super star sales manager, Mark Whitney, to see what could be done. That meeting with Mark changed everything for the better. Mark was professional and patient throughout the process. He quickly arranged a quote to build our existing design (from the builder that had gone under). When we asked for a custom design and decided to start from scratch, Mark helped us create an SJD custom design that ticked all the boxes. Due to the urgent land settlement and mortgage processing deadlines, Mark ensured an expedited colour selection appointment and a HIA contract with provisional site costs. When the final engineering report showed our site costs were $2,000 less than the provisional sum, SJD Homes credited the amount back to us. Later, a second engineering assessment required additional piers, and SJD covered the cost entirely. Mark truly went above and beyond for us. When he said, “Mate, I want to build for you—leave it with me,” he meant it. He remained approachable, helpful, and quick to clarify invoices whenever needed. Thank you, Mark!

Our site cut happened in August 2024, and the project moved into the construction phase. How well you sleep at night during the construction phase depends on the site supervisor :), and as first-time builders, we were nervous. Enter Mr. Kyle Estigarribia, our site supervisor, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Kyle called and introduced himself and gave us a heads-up on what to expect in the coming weeks and months. On a regular basis, Kyle sends us pictures and notes on what’s completed this week and what’s happening next.

Thanks to Kyle, our project stayed ahead of schedule as He managed it superbly. Apart from the Christmas break, there was regular activity on-site. We visited frequently and noticed it was always clean. We engaged a private inspector at every stage, and Kyle promptly addressed or explained any action items from the inspection reports. It was reassuring to see our inspector document “noticed high quality of work” on the waterproofing. There were no major concerns from the inspection reports, just a few minor items, which Kyle quickly resolved. Our single-story construction was completed in 6 months including Christmas holidays, and it’s been happy 60 days living in our happy nest. Thank You Kyle for building our first home!!

We are incredibly happy with our experience and highly recommend SJD Homes, especially for first-time builders like us. If we ever build again, it will be with SJD Homes (if Mark and Kyle are there! :) :))

Limited facades and certain restrictions. They don't do balconies over garages (most of them leak), and their facade choices are somewhat limited. This may be a deal breaker for some people, but not for us. When they say they don't offer something, they usually have a pretty good reason.

That's it.

Now, time to talk about all the good stuff and why you should absolutely build with them.

Awesome admin: All the office staff are courteous and respond promptly. They do their best to resolve the problem. Not a lot of "nothing we can do about this." They're always willing to talk to someone, forward some email, and at least try. Big shoutout to all the office staff at SJD.

Fantastic salesperson: Our salesperson is Kevin, and he's amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable, did everything he could to help, and doesn't push you to put down a deposit. Stay courteous even when you get overwhelmed or impatient. The planning stage is long, but trust me, this is not a con because when they start building, you'll realise there's a reason and it's all worth it. Thanks for helping us realise our dream home, Kevin!

Wonderful site supervisor: We had one site supervisor, Scott Cooksley. Incredibly trustworthy, always arriving early. High attention to detail, very organised. He's also super down-to-earth and treats us with respect. Most importantly, if he tells you he's gonna fix something, he'll fix it. If he tells you he will do something, he'll do it. If something isn't done, he'll let you know why. This is what you want when building a house. Trust. The fact that for the entire duration of the build, we only had ONE supervisor should tell you how stable the company is. This is a well-oiled machine that works. Quality: Not gonna lie, the build cost is not the cheapest. Someone can probably build a similar house with a few extra upgrades here and there, but then again, they could also end up with a house with all the upgrades they paid for scratched and installed incorrectly. They often do. This didn't happen with us. Everything was built properly, and while no build is perfect, all the mistakes are promptly rectified. SJD embodies the idea that "You get what you pay for." The final result? An amazing house. This company isn't hiring apprentices to save money; they are proper craftsmen. The workmanship is simply incredible. All the bricks are properly laid. All the tiles are properly centred and lined up perfectly. You paid a premium price, you get a premium house. And this really is a premium house that's built as close to code as you can get.

Care: They document your build journey alongside you. They hold your hand every step along the way. This is a company that makes you feel like they truly care about building your house. The supervisor treats your project like he's building a house for his own friends and family. The office staff, the salesperson—they treat you like a customer and a human being. It's a nice feeling.

Trustworthy: This is the most important aspect of building a house. If your supervisor tells you he's gonna fix something, you check it, and it isn't fixed, you're gonna have a problem. If your salesperson tells you something is included, and then a week later tells you this isn't the case, you're gonna have a problem. If you paid the deposit, and the office tells you they'll organise a soil test right away, and you call the soil-test company a week later and nothing's booked, you're gonna have a problem. If you build with SJD, you're not gonna have a problem.

We haven't moved beyond the maintenance period yet, but based on the experience I have so far, I have no reason to believe this would be any different. For now, I'm happy to say with certainty that, if you live in the Southeast and need a builder that offers customizable floor plans, SJD is the only company I'd trust. You pay the deposit, you sign the contract, and then you'll never have to worry about whether you'll get your house built.

For this kind of trust? I'd say money well spent. Thanks SJD!

Some parts of the build really need to be improved – Some parts of the build really needs improvement. Every time, we use water upstairs, it makes horrible noise downstairs, you can hear the pipe banging on the wall. The roof insulation is filled with recycled material, looks like old newspaper. have to buy protective oil to coat over it. Balcony also looked a bit different because they used a different company. The site manager is very angry when we told him that we want to use an external inspector. Nevertheless, I am happy with the kitchen, and stairs, and they allow for some variation of the design. Also the building cost is cheaper than others.

Build was OK! Excellent maintenance and support – We built a double storey with SJD homes over an year ago. The build had lots of issues. Most of the issues were rectified later, hence the 3 stars. the base concrete had big cracks, the driveway had a sewer hole, rain water leaks through window and roof tiles, winds whistling through the garage, front and sliding doors at the back. uneven and we had to pay extra for flooring later. The sewer lid did not fit properly and was wobbling, and there was a plastic lid at the bottom which is touching it, was not done properly. As far as energy efficiency is concerned , I wouldn't consider this to be 6 stars, the heater struggles to keep it warm, and runs hard but never been efficient. If I can give negative stars I would for the build. we had a pathetic supervisor ([Name Removed]) denying all responsibilities. He didn't want to handover the keys as he wanted the payment 2 weeks before the handover. We then told him , we need the keys as the final payment will be done on the day of the handover which he was not happy about.

I really wanted to thank [Name Removed] for taking care of the maintenance and after support. Most of the issues were resolved. If I'm giving 3 stars it is due to her effort for fixing most of the issues.

To this day, there are still issues, the render in the left corner has cracked which needs to be treated, this issue is still not rectified.

I will never build with SJD homes again because of the experience during the build and the supervisor who was arrogant and denying responsibilities to fix issues.

The building completion was done within the estimated time frame. During the build, had an issue with the front door frame, which wasn’t promptly responded to or resolved and had to remind the builder on multiple occasions. No other issues until handover. Oven was replaced with another product and installation was delayed a week after handover.… Read more

Initial issues with our dishwasher were promptly addressed and resolved which was appreciated. Overall, supervisor was pleasant to work with, clearly explained the build throughout the process and build was completed to a fairly high standard. We were given feedback from neighbours that builders kept the site very clean throughout the building process.

The girls in the gallery were also helpful during the colour selection stage as well as with providing options when changes had to be made. My only issue was was the estended period of time it took to draw up the contracts. This process seemed to take much longer this time round than before.
