On 4 December 2022, SGIO made the transition to become NRMA Insurance in Western Australia.
20 years of paying insurance premium now very difficult to make a claim – I’ve been a customer for over two decades and never made a claim. My car was stolen in April and I’ve been trying to make a claim since. After multiple calls and extremely long wait (each time always over an hour) I managed to lodge a claim. However I am told that I need an online account in order to complete the claim. I tried to register for an online account but I cannot get an online account because my contact information today does not match what I used to register the account twenty years ago. I am in my late sixties and I cannot remember what information I used to register over twenty years ago. Why can’t SGIO ask me for other information to verify my account? Drivers license? Passport copy? I am getting emails back and forth from different customer service people asking the same thing, all I need is just to be able to complete my claim!

Hi Zac, Thanks for your reply, however it is not helpful. I don't want to have to send another request to solve my issue via facebook, how many other avenues would you like me to contact you? I have tried telephone, email, webchat and now facebook? What's next twitter? You can look up my policy number and I am sure that you have everything on file. I simply require an online account so that I can complete my claim. Please contact me via my email robin.lourvanij@gmail.com. What other information do you need from me so that you can activate my online account? That's all I am looking for. Robin
Hi Robin, Thank you for getting back to me. I am very sorry that this has not already been resolved despite your numerous attempts, and I could understand your frustration. It is very unusual that you cannot complete your claim without creating an online account, if the claims team have requested documentation you can email that to motorclaims@sgio.com.au. There should certainly be another way to complete your claim or other information we can ask to verify your account. I would encourage you to reach out to the claims team and let them know that you can't access your online account, and need another way to proceed with the claim. You could email them as above, reach them on live webchat external link (8am to 8pm AEDT, 7 days) or call 1300 317 530 (8:30am–5pm, Mon–Fri). I was hoping you could message on Facebook so I can personally help you and ensure that this is resolved, I could also arrange for the claims team to give you a call. If none of these suggestions are satisfactory, please see our Complaints process on this page external link (you can find the contact information here for Customer Relations). Hear from you soon. ~ Zac
Ever rising premiums - get insurance elsewhere – When Comprehensive cover became ridiculously expensive, I moved to Third Party Fire & Theft. The following year my insurance premium increased by 25%. I asked for an explanation, and got fobbed off with general statements about factors such as cost of repairs, availability of parts - which are not even relevant for 3rd Party Fire and Theft.

Hi Ben, thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. With Third Party Fire and Theft we are insuring your car for a potential accident, and it that were to occur the claim would cover the other persons vehicle repairs. Third Party Fire and Theft does also cover damage to your car if stolen or attempted theft and damage by fire. I hope that helps to clarify your pricing factors. ~ Bec
Look Elsewhere – I canceled my Car Insurance and if I owed any money and it was below $10 they would waive the money. I just looked at my account and they charged me $8:13 . What a Joke. Look elsewhere for your Car Insurance.

Hi Robin, thank you for reaching out and for your over 20 years of loyalty. I sincerely apologise for the difficulty you had lodging a claim, and that more effort wasn't made to help you get logged in or provide an alternative solution. The change from SGIO to NRMA should not mean a reduction in the level of service received, although the brand has changed we are still backed by Insurance Australia Group (Australia's largest general insurer), and are entirely the same staff operating from the same locations around Australia (I myself am in Perth). We would certainly like to look into this for you and help get things moving, if you can please reach out to us on Facebook from this page; external link we will help you further. Hear from you soon. ~ Zac
