Great vacuum cleaner – I've received NV500 as warranty replacement for NV350 back in 2015. After 8 years, I'm looking to replace the broken hose. Yes, it is little bit heavy, but I'm not caring it anywhere. Easy access to filters and it very easy to empty the container. Still performs great and I always get surprised how much 'invisible' dust Shark picks up. Show details

Excellent features poor after sales – Excellent ergodynamic design, excellent suction, carpet roller and filter systems. Sadly not well-designed for balance so tips easily. so many good features and a cheap, tangling cord. Needed to buy a second hose and now roller has stopped working. Fantastic and very reliable – So this was the replacement of my purple lift away vacuum and have had this for 10 years now and the only thing that has just started breaking is the vacuum pipe to the handle has never let me down and has been used just about everyday, perfect for carpets however not so great on wooden floors or tiles only because you either have to carry it or… Read more

put it on the caddy which is not the most stable going room to room as you have to use the non powered head as the powered head just flicks the debris everywhere now as I'm older I find it difficult to drag around and will be replacing it with something more conventional which is a shame but being honest, fantastically reliable otherwise

Love my vacuum and the service from Mann & Noble – I love my Shark Vac. With a bad back is so easy to push around without putting effort in to it. It does all the work and basically pulls itself along. IT is extremely versatile and has too many attachments to mention. After almost 5 years of getting a workout most days, the head died. I fought tooth and nail to get the warranty info from the TV… Read more

Shop who sold it to me.. they had my name and had debited my account for 6 month but couldn't find the details. MAnn & Noble have taken over sales and service and quickly honored the warranty. New Head sent next day 6 months after, the main motor stopped. Again TV shop were appalling.. But Mann & Noble were sensible enough to take the purchase information and again honour warranty. New machine next day. Best machine !! And as long as Shark is back by MAnn and Noble it will be my vacuum of choice,

Great initially but doesn't last – I have only had this vacuum for under 5 years, and this was a replacement for the original shark navigator vacuum (a different model) I purchased, which got recalled! I love how it comes with so many different attachments which was effective in cleaning floor boards, tiles, rugs/carpets, curtains, ceiling fans, everything. However, considering… Read more

that I'm having to hunt down and purchase a second replacement part (which won't happen because this product is now discontinued), I feel their products are substandard and I will not be purchasing their products again.

Good Vacuum – Best vacuum ever. The trick is that I taped up the "Suction Control" completely with a packing tape so no suction is lost. Also, every week I clean the Foam, Felt, and Hepa filter. You have to keep doing this habit so the vacuum itself operates as if it just came out of the box. Hope this helps.  Show details

not worth the money – The vacuum is ok but not worth the amount I paid. The hose is that tight that when you use it the vacuum just tìps over. Suction loss after a few months and now the power head doesnt work. 150 for a replacement head! When the power head stopped working the vacuum made a loud bang and smelt burnt, assumed it was the rubber band but it wasnt. Great device, Certainly worth the price – I initially purchased a shark rocket which was recalled by the company and was issued with the NV 500. I am very happy with the performance. I believe the appliance although not so light is easy to maneuver. I use it on carpets and tiles . A 2 bedroom 2 bathroom living room balcony 99sq meters. I have only use a few of the attachments. What a great all-round vacuum cleaner! – Having been unimpressed with our last vacuum cleaner (a Dyson) we went looking at options that would be good in terms of weight (for stairs), suction (pet hair) and good on both hard timber flooring and carpet. it out after I have vacuumed the entire house (4 bedroom). Sad to know it was discontinued, but glad that it came with a variety of different attachments, which means I dont have to purchase them seperately. Also the vacuum cleaner can be adjusted from upright to a hand held, the handle bar changes in to a vacuum wand which allows you to vacuum the hard to reach areas, like under beds, cornices and celling fans, etc.

So love this vacuum.

What a piece of junk! don't waste your money – This is a useless piece of junk. It is heavy - breaks your back kind of heavy. The cord is never long enough and gets tangled at every corner. Cheap junk – Very little suction. Is lightweight. Need to vacuum same area over and over and still not clean. Sharp edge plastic wheels cut and scratched the hard wood floors, so vacuum can only be used on carpets and it doesn't have enough suction to clean even flat carpet. Called shark and was told to return the vacuum to Shark for a refund. Sent vacuum back got my $218 refund 2 months after I returned the vacuum cleaner. Poor customer service.  Show details

Shark NV340ANZ Rotator Slim Light Lift Away Vacuum Cleaner – Desperate to choose a decent vacuum cleaner after years of dealing with secondhand and other peoples hand me downs, I researched my choices and came up with a quartet of cleaners - the Dyson, the Miele. the Vax and the Shark uprights. Upright because I'm old and tired of bending down. Upright because I'm sick of dragging a heavy canister vac… Read more

behind me. Upright because ... well just because.

I was not impressed with the Dyson. The model I test drove was a new ball one and it was too heavy .. and too expensive - the shop didn't have anything other than the most expensive... I couldn't find a Vax until I got to Godfreys and it was one model only - the most expensive. Between the Dyson and the Vax I would've been lucky to get change out of $600. Funny how the shops I visited only seemed to have the most expensive cleaners on the floor...

I finally get to a department store selling vacuum cleaners and by this time, I'm ready to buy another $50 special and to hell with it. But they had a decent range, including several Vax models and a Shark. Unfortunately they were all in boxes so I couldn't test drive them. Sick of the experience, I got them down to just over $300 on the price and it was in my trolley. The sales person told me to photocopy my receipt, because they 'faded' and I'd need a legible one if I was to return the item. I did notice they had a 28 day change of mind policy, so with that in mind, and the vac in the car, I drove home.

Unpacking and assembling was a breeze. Everything clicked together nicely. I went searching for the extras - like the shoulder strap to hold the canister when the Lift Away feature was activated. No strap. All I had was a little brush thing.

I googled the model and couldn't find much information. Lots on the other models. Lots of bad reviews from Australia. Lots of good reviews from overseas. The more I looked, the more annoyed I got. Seems the models we get here in Australia don't include the bells and whistles that are automatically included in the purchase as they are overseas. No headlights on the Aussie model, yet the UK one clearly shows them. The UK one also comes with multiple attachments and a pull along caddy... Not happy, Jan!

Anyhoo, I plugged it in - nice long cord but on the wrong side - it should be on the opposite side to where the hose is IMHO. Quiet to start. Cat didn't freak too much. I get to the carpet. Couldn't work out why it wasn't working properly, so read the manual, smacked myself on the side of the head and engaged the turbo brush.... duh. Talk about suction! Yes, it sucks. Really sucks. And it gets three layers of Maine Coon cat fur off the rugs, the carpets, the floors and the fur-niture.

Emptying the canister was a little tricky at first. Very tight, took a bit of force to open that sucker, but all the detritus dropped out easily.

Then I got to the lino and it was here that the little machine proved too much. It was too powerful for the lino floor – sucked it up so hard I could not move the machine on the floor without considerable effort. I actually had to pick it up to break the suction. I altered the flow using the collar thing to lessen the suction but still no go. In addition, it didn't pick much up off the floor.

I decided to call the company to see if I was doing something wrong. I had one number on the swing tag, another number on the business card included in the kit, another number on the manual, two more numbers on the website.

I rang the first number. Hello TV Shop! WTF? I thought I was going to speak to Shark. But no. 20 minutes on hold and didn't advance in the queue. I tried the second number. Same deal. Tried the third number... finally got through after half and hour and the kid on the other end of the phone told me I needed to talk to someone else and gave me the importers 1800 number. On hold again.... I gave up.

There were other issues with this cleaner. It was poorly made. Flimsy plastic bits that looked as though they'd break if I looked at them too hard. Brush head, while powerful and effective, had a bad issue with fur and hair, meaning that every time I used it, I had to lay the machine on it's side and manually strip out the collected fur and hair. I hate vacuuming at the best of times, this was just over the top.

The best thing about the Shark was it really did what it said it would do – suck! Great clean. Pity about the construction and the after sales service (if you could find anyone to talk to!)

So I took it back to the store. Got a refund. Went and bought a small Miele C2 allergy vacuum cleaner... Yes, it's a drag-along canister but it's half the weight of my cat. And it sucks … good!

Its still a good vacuum with good suction except for not being able to release the handle – Its not quiet but it definitely has good suction but the only problem I have with it is I cannot release the handle its stuck. I haven't had any problems with it other than trying to release the handle. It would be easier to manoever if I could release the handle then I could put an attachmenr on to clean the edges.

Waste of money, lasted just over a year and major part not covered by warranty – Performance/suction, easy to manoeuvre, great machine for just over a year, then motorhead (major part) stopped working.Has a 5 year warranty but company says 'attachables' are not covered under warranty. Everything is attachable, so the warranty is useless. Don't buy this expensive vacuum cleaner for longevity, unlikely to last. Waste of money and very disappointed. Customer service was appalling.

Avoid at all costs - save yourself a lot of heartache as the customer service is appalling! – Many experiences on here are very similar to ours. We purchased the Shark Rotator NV500NZ as a result of watching an infomercial and were taken in by a lot of marketing hype. What convinced us to give it a go was the VIP 5 year warranty (which our experiences with Dyson never offered). The process of purchasing it was relatively simple and… Read more

there was also a 30 day money back guarantee which gave a sense of security. Customer service said it would be shipped within 7 days and if I am not mistaken, it arrived in 5 days. Using it was easy enough, however, we found it to be an extremely heavy machine and the cord does not retract, tangling under foot when vacuuming. The suction was quite strong and it definitely picked up a lot of dust and debris from floors and carpets. Emptying the canister was a big positive with only a one-button click, something Dyson did not have in previous models and appears to have picked up on since.

The problems only started when the main hose cracked and split after only 4 months of use. We immediately rang customer service and they informed us that is was a 'consumable' part and not covered under warranty, however, on this one occasion, as a ‘gesture of good will’ we would receive a replacement at no extra cost.

Unfortunately, within 7 months, the next part to go was the main pivot on the hard floor tool which could then not function without duck-tape. After that two of the hand held nozzles split/ cracked at the hose connection preventing a tight seal from forming. I must add here that this machine only had light domestic use, two rooms of lino and three bedrooms was a non-pile carpet – nothing that placed any unnecessary or extension pressure on parts or machinery. After 10 months we already needed two hands to count the issues.

Even though the motor and suction are strong, the vacuum cleaner appears to be made with really poor quality materials that cannot stand up to ordinary use. It explains why they can compete with other similar models on the market.

My advice: run screaming in the opposite direction. Customer service are slow to respond and address issues and you will walk away regretting the purchase!

WAS happy initially! – Initially I thought this was the solution to my vacuum problems. Absolutely loved it. My 'Liftaway Professional' is not even twelve month old when the brushes on the main head stopped working. Now I'm told that the main head is considered a consumable and is NOT covered by the warranty. WTF!!!! The replacement head will cost me $150 god knows what the postage will cost? NOT HAPPY! Will not buy anything from this company again.

only lasted 18mths and now wont work??? – I was amazed with this vacuum, the suction was amazing, told everyone I knew about how great it was, kept it really clean (filters) but it only lasted about 18 mths, now it cuts in and out of power, and has lost suction. I would expect a vacuum that cost $580+ to last longer!! Looked at the reviews and see I am not the only one with this model and problem? Would really like something to be done?

Very Decent Vacuum - Wins against Dyson in some aspects – REVIEW UPDATE: DO NOT BUY THIS VACUUM, WARRANTY MISLEADING ========================================= I am updating my review and downgrading my rating to the lowest score possible and here's why. After months of light usage, it broke down, more specifically, the turbo brush head did not work. I tried to see if there was something stuck,… Read more

anything that would hinder it from rotating by opening the brush head from the bottom and found nothing.

In the end I decided to call back TV shopping because I was very confident of the 5YEARS warranty. When I managed to speak to a customer support, she tried to troubleshoot the problem asking me to check the brush head, to which I already did.

Now here comes the shocker, she told me that the Turbo Brush Head IS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. The warranty only covers the lift-away unit and the motor, and not the brush head, which 99% of the time is connected to the vacuum. The lady said I have to pay $150 to get the brush head replaced.

Really disappointed and annoyed. One of the reasons I bought this vacuum is the 5-year warranty which turned out to be a "partial" warranty.

Again I reiterate, I would not buy this vacuum.

=========================================

I have been a Dyson user for years and to be specific, I was using a Dyson DC40 before I bought this one. So my review will be mostly compared to the Dyson DC40.

I have never bought anytning from home TV shopping before, EVER and this is the first item I bought. I have seen the Navigator before and since then was always curious about the Liftaway function. I have a double storey house, which means it has a staircase which is very very difficult to clean. When our Dyson broke and we have no warranty for it, I decided to buy this after a bit of research. I also decided to write a review because Australian review on this product is very scarce. So on with the review:

Buying the product:

Bought the vacuum from home TV shopping and all in all it was an OK experience. As noted this is my first time to ever purchase anything from TV so I have my doubts. I have to call twice to get a good price. The first customer service that I talked to did not budge too much and she offered me refurbished ones instead. Finally the second guy was able to give me a good price. The guy said it would take 7 working days before the product gets delivered but it arrived earlier than that so I was happy to get to use it before getting buried in house dust.

Unpacking and Assembly:

Unpacking and Assembly is straightforward and very easy. Most of the components, if not all are using a click and lock system. Shark comes with an array of attachments and accessories. For me, I did not unpack or pulled out everything out of the box, I just pulled out and assembled what I really immediately needed. You'll notice there is a section in the box that has some attachments inside. I have not used those attachments yet. I was just taking precautions that if ever I need to return back the vacuum, repacking the vacuum will not be as difficult. I even videoed and picture catalogued the un-boxing so that I can retrace my steps if needed.

Looks:

To be honest not a fan of shiny plastic chrome-looking plastic. The vacuum as everyone would know is white and red. Maybe I am just used to my Dyson before, more elegant looking. I also wished that they have not covered the barrel with a sticker. I wanted to remove it but I am still cautious if I have ever need to return it back. It blocks me from seeing the dust that as been collected, though you can see it from the sides of the barrel.

Also I do not really like those headlights. Maybe someone could enlighten me what're the use of those headlights?

Manoeuvrability

+The Shark vacuum, like the TV says is manoeuvrable in terms of swivelling. When you turn on the turbo head, it has the tendency to move forward which lessens the push effort. Surprisingly it does not offer much resistance when pulling back the vacuum.

+A big plus on the length of the cord, it was longer than what my Dyson has.

- The floor turbo head is thicker than the Dyson which means I cannot push the turbo head underneath my sofa or tables and I am only able to vacuum the edges. This is when I am lazy to move the sofa to vacuum whatever is underneath it

- Not easy on the arms and hands. This is mainly due to the center of gravity of the vacuum. Dyson has much of the weight of its vacuum on the floor because the ball holds the motor. For Shark, much of the weight is behind the barrel which means my arms and hands have to carry more weight while vacuuming. This is big minus for me as I have a large carpet area.

Usability

I think this is the aspect where Shark wins over Dyson hands down mainly due to the liftaway function. With the Dyson, one has to lift the vacuum and pull the very stiff hose to vacuum the stairs. And when you pull the hose, most often than not, you have to hold the Dyson unit so that it would not tilt over. For Shark, as seen on TV, lift the vacuum unit and carry it comfortably. The Shark vacuum also came with a portable turbo head which is very very useful and the crevice attachment as well.

I also like the turbo head light indicators, it tells me whether it is on or off which Dyson does not have.

Emptying the dust barrel is also easy though I have really one minor complaint. The dust tends to collect on one corner of the barrel. Yes, corner, because the barrel is not totally a cylinder, it is more like a "C" from its cross section. The air that circulates goes up and down as compared to the circular rotation in the vacuum. As an effect, the dirt tends to get stuck at the corners of the "C" ends so it's either you have to apply more force emptying the barrel, if not, open the other end. (the barrel can be opened from both ends).

Vacuum Performance

My review here might is pretty controversial as I cannot really accurately measure the amount of dust for each vacuum, I can only approximate based on my experience with my Dyson and with this Shark vacuum. From my perspective, my Dyson vacuum sucks and collects more dust that Shark had collected. Having said that, the amount of dirt it collected is still amazing.

Price

Definitely compared to my Dyson, the Shark vacuum is cheaper, probably saved my a little bit over $200. Plus it came with a 5-year warranty.

Any other quirks?

The sound of the vacuum is quite cartoonish almost literally. The turbo head sound is similar to the Jetson's car sound, or as if it is a remote control car.

It does not have a button or switch to turn off the headlights.

Conclusion

The Shark vacuum is very usable, manoeuvrable and has good suction. Am I blown away with this vacuum, the answer is No, however I am still happy with it (for now).

I am still looking forward to have my Dyson vacuum fixed. It is not under any warranty anymore so I have to factor in the repair cost.

wear and tear after just 6 months? – I purchased the Shark Rotator NV500NZ in January 2015. I have been very happy with it until last weekend, when the rotator just stopped working. As soon as he… Read more

was advised that the vacuum was over 6 months & it was the foot attachment, he kept saying it was wear & tear & therefore not covered. I believe the issue is in the switch.

But on reading other reviews, this issue is common. The vacuum cost me $799.00 initially & am I now expected to pay $199.00 every 6 months to keep it going properly as it is useless without the attachment. Something is wrong here. I will be following up with this.
