So much for CHOICE recommendations!
We bought this unit for almost $400 based on Sharp's good name and a high placing in the Choice road tests.
Early in the warranty, the sensors blew and the microwave stopped heating. We had it repaired under warranty but it's now out of warranty and the sensors are going again. We have to run a defrost program twice or 3 times for our food to even partially defrost.
The light also started to dim and has now blown... It's an LED!! They're meant to have 50000+ hours of life and we've had this product less than 2 years. A replacement light unit ...
Read moreis expensive and requires disassembling the microwave to replace. I queried having it done via the retailer and was told globe replacement was expected of purchasers, not something they will consider as a service. Waste of money. Won't buy based on Choice recommendations again. Questioning whether or not to even give Sharp another try. Maybe we got a lemon?? Maybe their products are all lemons. Unsure.Purchased in August 2019 at JB Hi-Fi Retail Stores for $389.00.
Nothing good to say
Light flickering
Clock fast
Cooling down fan goes too long
Over heat on sensor
Another crap load of land fill that was definitely not worth the money, had a Panasonic for thirty years, this thing lasted two. You have got to be kidding me Sharp.

Poor design by a usually good manufacturer.
Same comments as many others. Purchased in July 2018 from Domayne, Kotara NSW. Clock races ahead. Needs to be reset after a few weeks. Oven lamp is strobing/flickering. Food will be overcooked unless time or power is reduced below those given in instruction book. Where do I buy replacement oven lamp?

Dont BUY this! A cheaply made product.Don't waste your money.
Further to my original review the second microwave at work has died completely. That's two of these pieces of junk firstly having both lights fail and now both no longer heat. Poorly made plastic pieces of crap. So overall including my personal one that's 3 in 12 months that have all had lights fail and blown up! Great work Sharp. We will never buy again from Sharp.

I have had sharp Microwaves for over 40 years. Have loved everyone of them until this last replacement. I don't like the dark interior for the same reason as another reviewer. Cant see anything to check during cooking. Most annoying, the sensor functions I have used overcook everything. There is condensation between the door panels which freaked me out. Sharp say it is normal. This is hard to believe as it has never happened in over 40 years using their product. This also useless as it completely blocks what is left of viewing ability. I ret...
Read moreurned the first one i bought because of these issues but he replacement does the same thing. This is a manufacturing fault that Sharp refuses to acknowledge. Their idea of a response was that they haven't heard of this before so its not a problem. "Its normal" since when? Since these latest batches came through. Please listen to someone who has been using your product for more years than you have been breathing, let alone working for Sharp. Sharp needs to look at a possible recall as this overheating issue and inner panel condensation could be a potential risk. Very disappointed not only in product performance but customer care.Purchased in October 2020 for $299.00.

Works OK, but 2 irritating faults.
This microwave has good features, Inverter technology for accurate Microwave watts output, but the buttons are sometimes hard to press. However, as many others have noted on here, the clock gains time, so is not accurate (so we just ignore that as a clock). However, after just 2 years use, the LED lamp inside the microwave is flickering badly, and sometimes goes out completely during cooking, which is NOT what you want if watching milk or soup etc. We have had the Sharp Microwave R395EBS since September 2018, but now find that after a few minut...
Read morees use, the LED lamp in the microwave flickers rapidly. I have researched this issue, This seems to be a common problem with the original LED lamp (9KL70000002369) across 20 different Sharp models. It has been replaced by a 9KL70000013692, according to the RMS COMPONENTS web site, so I suspect this is a KNOWN problem by Sharp (otherwise why would they change the spec and number of this part. This is probably the most common complain on this and similar models, and is most likely due to a component inside the base of the lamp that changes the 250V A/C to the 3V or so needed for the LED to work, but is lower spec than needed inside a microwave, that needs components with a wider operating temperature range, so that it does not fail prematurely. LED lamps should typically last for 50,000 Hours use, and this one does NOT.Purchased in September 2018 at FlyBuy for $340.00.

Another one with a dead light
Just dropped in here to add to the rest of the comments. Ours is coming up on 2 years old, but doesn't get all that much use. Light has now started flickering/strobing a lot. Disappointed to find a replacement light (parts only) is 1/5th the cost of a new microwave! Based on our previous experience of Sharp was not expecting that at all.
Also noticed on ours that the clock is terrible at keeping time... adds about a minute a week..... have other digital clocks in the house and car that seem to maintain correct time without being adjusted at all over a year... can't be that hard can it?

Very disappointed, I have owned Sharp brand for many years, this is my last
In no particular order, these problems irritate me to the same degree
Interior too dark when in operation, the noise made by the door opening and closing would wake the dead, the condensation is crazy, it covers the entire door glass. The clock is useless, doesn’t keep correct time, defrost facility not worth having. The light failed a week ago after flittering for a few days, I tried to replace the globe but the unit has been made so it would need to go back to a service agent to be replaced. I purchased this THING from the Good Guys at Erina...

Not built to last
My first ever Sharp Microwave was great and lasted many years. This Model however had the light fail after a year then the unit blew it’s fuse due to an internal fault just shy of 2 years. Not good enough for the price paid, I’m not buying a Sharp again.

Another lemon?
I am on my third Sharp microwave, similar size and facilities, in not much more than three years. On two previous occasions it was replaced by Product Care through Harvey Norman. I have not been happy with current model and after reading other reviews I am finding similar complaints. This one was ‘purchased’ October 2019. The light has started flickering, I don’t like the extended cool down fan operation, or the build up of condensation in the oven when cooking for any length of time other than reheating and I am convinced that its heating/...
Read morecooking is not as efficient as the oven it replaced. Food takes longer to heat than before eg cup of milk now 2:20 not 2:00 minutes as before. Pretty average. Light started flickering 2 days before warranty expired.
We chose this particular microwave as it was the closest fit for our cavity. I thought a Sharp would be a pretty good brand. It has been ok, operation is not very intuitive. Whenever the light is supposed to be on, it strobes constantly, I almost wish it would stop working altogether. Started just before the warranty ended, but didnt realise this until several weeks later. Very frustrating.

Disappointing purchase - light doesn’t work and clock runs fast.
I have found this post after searching for a clue as to how to replace the bulb in this microwave which started flickering and then died a month ago. Sounds complicated.
The clock also runs fast - it worked at the start but I thought I was losing it when I was using it to check my time to leave for work.
Very sad to say this will be my last sharp microwave and I’ve been using this brand for over 30years.
The defrost and soften options are too limiting.
I bought this thinking we would have a great and long lasting purchase.........
How Sharp standards have dropped!!!

Good microwave
Like the options it provides and the design is sleek and blends in well with other appliances in my kitchen. Easy to clean. Only downside is the defrosting option - it will only sensor defrost meat if I put in at least 500g and unless I'm standing next to it to press start again, it will come up as an error. This can be frustrating when it has 'sensed' the weight and type of meat but will not defrost fully without a couple of attempts.

Light Failed... like a lot of other people's experience - 6 days after warranty expiry.
Ok, so I've had the same Sharp Convection microwave for years... when I say years I mean something like 30 years. It was made in Japan and weighed a tonne. It still works fine today, but the door seal has begun to fail and fall apart. If only the parts were still available today.
I figured I'd stay with Sharp given that experience and went to my local GoodGuys and found the R396EST. The guy in the shop gave it a glowing review so I went ahead with the purchase (actually purchased it though their ebay store).

Absolute disgusting service
Purchased new Sharp - 395 E Inverter microwave late july 2018. within 12 months we have had to take it back twice to their registered repairer - "ASA Appliance service in Greenwood WA" - to have the internal globe replaced which is essential for safe use of microwave. on registering complaint with Sharp customer care their response was despite several emails and advice from their registered repairer confirming the issue the customer care centre then totally ignored our emails by instructing us to take it back to the retailer (Harvey Norman Osb...

The Sharp customer care centre have totally ignored my disgust at not recognising the issue with their LED light in this inverter model despite their local registered repairer as mentioned above already identifying the fault. suggest other consumers to not buy a Sharp Microwave as the Customer Care response centre is totally disfunctional and non responsive to a real issue.Purchased in July 2018 at Harvey Norman Online for $300.00.

We're Sharp fans, but with reservations
Our previous Sharp microwave died after around 10 years, so we're pretty happy with the brand. The think we always disliked about it was the long cooling cycle.
After researching our replacement, we had to buy basically the same microwave. We knew it would most likely have the same annoying characteristic, namely whether an item was heated for 5 seconds or 5 minutes, there always followed at least 30 seconds of cooling off. Since not every microwave oven requires this, it seems Sharp could build into the logic an appropriate cooling down cyc...

Avoid this unit - ruins Sharp's reputation for making quality microwaves.
Overall, pretty unhappy with this unit. Just today the light started flickering as is the case with many users. I have a week left on the warranty, so I suppose this is fortunate - just not looking forward to it happening again in 6 months (which other users are reporting).
There are other problems however:
1 - Despite it's attempt at a good aesthetic design, the door is misaligned from the housing.
2 - The clock runs very fast - I don't even bother setting it anymore.
3 - When cooking anything for any length of time, the door panel fills up ...

Why does the fan continue to work after opening the microwave oven is opened
1 answer
This model (along with a few others these days, with Inverter technology and sophisticated electronics controls) does this to cool the internal components after a cooking cycle finishes (as things would not instantly cool down after a cooking cycles completes), AND also helps to evaporate any moisture that hangs around after cooking. I believe it mentions this in the manual.

I purchased a Sharp R395EST 34L 1200WS/Steel Inverter Microwave from The Good Guys, Cairns on 02/07/19 for$266.00. The internal light has begun flickering and I want to know how I deal with this. Will I return the appliance to The Good Guys or should I take it to a Sharp retailer in Cairns (if there is one) for repair under it's 12month warranty. I hope I don't get the run around and would like to hasten a safe solution
