My Smeg dishwasher needed a new power board after only 18 months, thankfully still in warranty. Now, 9 months later, it seems to have gone again. Are the power boards failing a common problem with these machines? Model No. DWA621462.

I have the same problem with a SMEG DWAI149X. No power at all but power outlet is fine. Machine stopped during a cycle and now has no display. Bill
Dear Bill, Have you contacted us to discuss the problem with your dishwasher? If not, could you please email your details to the above email and we will be in contact with you. Regards Smeg
Hi Smeg,
I have a DWAFI149 dishwasher which shut down altogether, no lights to indicate fault.
I had a Smeg service man come out and said it was a mother board and will cost $840.00 parts and labour to fix it.
Apparently from what he was saying and looking on the internet it is a common problem with this machine.
So after paying a very high price to get a good quallity appliance which should last 10 years I am looking to replace it after 5 years of light duty. I am not happy because my Smeg fridge freezer went the same way after 5 years of use.
I think consumer affairs should know about this machine and this common expensive fault.
Your assistance in this matter would help.
Regards Peter

Has anyone self solved the problem where the dishwasher will not drain? I'm not keen to spend another 500 dollars on this appliance. Really disappointed with the lack of longevity.
Post the question on their Facebook page and see if they respond
Hi Cal dishwashers not draining are usually blockages either in the drain pump or the connection of the drain hose to the S-trap, you can remove the hose from the S-trap and check for blockages and try to drain the dishwasher into a bucket, if the blockage is in the pump you will need a technician to clear it please call Smeg service on 02 8667 4833.
Regards chris
Our dishwasher will not operate. The outlet hose had a leak in it but is now repaired but the machine will still not work. It can be turned on but swaps from the cycle set to the lights for 2 cycles flashing after a few minutes of trying to pump water in. Why?
Hi Jan it could be water lying in the base plate, tilt the dishwasher to the L/H side to drain any water out of it. If this dose not work please call Smeg service on 02 8667 4833 to arrange a service call.
Regards Chris
There is no water in the machine whatsoever
The top shelf is not cleaning? Have checked filters.. any suggestions as to why this is happening?
Hi Kat F usually if the top is not cleaning it's because the arm under the top basket is not turning, remove the arm and make sure that all the small holes are clear run water thru the center and see if it comes out of the small holes, make sure the arm is not hitting anything in the lower basket. If this does not work please call Smeg service on 02 8667 4833.
Regards Chris
A service company came out to look at our Smeg DWAI 149 (in a rental unit 4 years old) and advised that the power board needs replacement. it will cost around $650 all up (power board and service call). My question is - what would cause the mother board to fail? Is this a common problem? Is it wear and tear? is it due to negligence? Seems like the repair cost is over the top and is cheaper to buy a new one. surely they should last longer than 4 years especially being renowned Smeg.
Yes. It is cheaper to buy a new one. Even to the point of replacing it every 4 years. Just my take here.
So my machine has stopped working again. Not even a year since a technician came out to look at it. Now there is just no power at all. I've checked the cord for damage and the PowerPoint to see if it is broken. Cannot see a problem with either. Heading out tomorrow to buy a new machine. I saw that a call out technician fee is $140 and other people have reported $500+ to fix similar problems. just seems ridiculous when a new machine costs less. anything you can suggest before I head out to replace this disappointing machine?
That is precisely what I was going to do until Smeg came to the party and repaired our machine. If it is a "mother board" then that is the sort of money required to repair the machine. I had shortlisted other cheaper brands with the view that it is a throwaway society and i'd be better off buying a new one every few years rather than paying that for repairs.
Dear Pillyab, I am the National l Service Manager for Smeg and I would like to assist with this problem, could you please email me direct at steve.cullen@smeg.com.au with your details and also what are all of the issues. Just found out my machine has done the mother board, not happy at all. I thought this brand would last more than 5 years.

I have a DWA149W and it just cut out at the end of a cycle last week. No power at all. There is no fuse and the socket still works so for some reason no power is getting to it. I did email Steve Cullen but zero response from Smeg. It might be simply the relay but I can't leave it much longer before I throw it in the bin and start again with a better brand. Any ideas?
I would email him again- he has been great.
I would ring smeg get some one out. Is it still under warranty?. are you sure its not your power to outlet ? I would ring smeg . Its a shame that your having this problem as you know your smeg is a fantastic dish washer. I am sure a phone call will sort out and you can keep smegging
Hi Marcus please give the service department a call on (02)86674833
and arrange a service call for one of our service technicians to attend
and help you with your dishwasher.
thank you regards Adam.
So Smeg wanted $140 to come and have a look so I straight away knew that when new machines break, Smeg see this as a revenue stream rather than an opportunity for customer satisfaction! I had a local expect confirm my suspicion that rhe control PCB had blown and guess how much Smeg want for that ... Sit down ... $550. I can buy a new Whirlpool or Bosch for $600. And it has as much chance of lasting longer than 2 years as this Smeg did. Never again.
Brought my dishwasher 10/2/2012. No problems until tonight, will not power on. Have removed plug from power, replaced still not powering on. What now?
Dear Deborah, I would say that you need a service call as there are a number of things that could cause this to happen. You can email me your address and contact details at steve.cullen@smeg.com.au and I will arrange the call.
We are getting an E6 fault code and the pump is not draining the water. I have checked the hose and there are no kinks. This is the second machine we have had. The first was replaced because of an E6 fault code and the machine couldn't be fixed. This was replaced late 2013. We now have the same error code and just over 2 years old. Could you advise what the problem maybe?
Thanks
have you tried to reset it . I am now getting same thing E6 and it stop dead just flashing light . I don't actually know what is happening ring smeg talk to someone there it looks like the company may to address this issue as I have gotten feed back with same thing happening .I advise you get it look at . its just sad that we have to pay for faulty pumps because I think the company must be aware of pump . prob. I love my smeg just little upset that as soon as warranty runs out it goes belly up
Contacted SMEG and they couldn't have been more helpful. Immediately got a technician to arrange to have the machine fixed at their cost. Could be they are aware of a systemic problem with the pump but nonetheless I take my hat off to them for their prompt service. restores some faith in SMEG as a good product,
E6 purchased on 28/12/ 2013 from bing lee rouse hill still under warranty. Checked no kicked hose as its barely used due to carbon tax only 2 of us pensioners so we rinse dishes place them all week in rack was about once every week. Bing lee said we are still covered.
