Fantastic Machine – Can't fault our coffee machine. We've had it for over 1 1/2 years. So easy to use, clean & takes up little space on benchtop. Just bought another 1 as we don't want to be ever without. Thanks Smeg. Show details

Milk Frothing

Not great – Does espresso shot nicely but if you want good milk, look elsewhere. The milk wand attachment is so wide that it's impossible to froth milk properly. It lets in too much air, giving you lukewarm, frothy milk every time. I really wanted to love this (since the machine itself looks so pretty!) But sadly it just isn't it.

Whats the lifespan of a Blue Smeg? – I have been very happy with my blue machine and the coffee it produces. I am the only coffee drinker in the house so it only gets used each morning. Lately I,ve found the filter baskets blocking up so changed to the spare single one, the pump also seems to be not pumping as well as it used to. Is there anything I can do to make it flow fast again.? Show details

Filter Basket Clogged, Gasket Leaking - Totally Useless After Just A Few Weeks – My unit is faulty after just a few weeks use - maybe 30 coffees. This was definitely a new learning curve for me - after a few watery failures & messes, I persevered, read a bit & watched a few videos about making good coffee & quickly got to the point where I felt I was mastering the machine - understanding the quirks of the buttons & becoming… Read more ·  3

efficient in the process of making a great tasting coffee comparable in my opinion to a barista made coffee, but not as hot. Even though I adjusted the coffee temperature setting to max, I was only able to get it very warm where you could drink it all straight away. However, after more practise with the steam wand moving the cup up & down I've been able to get hotter coffees. I would have given it 4 stars up until this point.

But now, the double shot filter basket doesn't pour properly anymore - the basket just fills up with pressure that can't escape, causing coffee to splatter everywhere when the filter holder handle is released. It's as if the (double walled) pressure metal filter basket has super fine particles clogging the inside.

I have always rinsed the filter basket & filter holder handle separately after every use. I don't overfill the basket & I always tamp down the coffee to a correct level so it doesn't foul the screen above on the machine. I do a fine expresso grind with a Breville Dose Control Pro set to 10.

Sticking a needle in the single hole of the filter basket as suggested in the manual didn't work so I tried boiling the basket for 10 minutes to no avail. I tried running the machine with an empty filter basket but the basket just fills up with hot water & leaks everywhere from the gasket seal. When I detach the filter holder handle, water under pressure splurts out everywhere making a huge mess.

I am annoyed at the prospect of having to go & purchase another filter basket (not cheap!) especially since it lasted only a few dozen coffees.

I am also dreading having to waste my time undergoing the annoying process of going back & forth to a service department to get it fixed under warranty & dealing with phone calls & emails with customer service. I just hope it's easy & stress free.

EDIT Match 2023 I'm happy with the temperature of the milk now. It just took a bit of practise with the frothing wand. I'm using a slightly coarser fine grind & the replacement 2 shot basket is working well. For a strong mug sized coffee I find the 51mm diameter basket undersized, so I fill the 2 shot basket & push the 2 cup button & let it pour, then push the 1 cup button for a final pour. If you wanted large & strong coffees with less mucking around I would go for a coffee machine with a 58mm basket. I have changed my rating from 1 star to 4 stars since the machine is working well but I still am annoyed that the pressure basket clogged up so easily & that there wasn't any guidance in the instructions about fine grinds being an issue

Very very disappointed – I have this morning donated my new machine to an op shop for free. Nespresso makes 10 coffees in a row with no problem. This can only make one coffee at a time before overheating. The manual says the frother cannot be used for more than 60 seconds. The frother is so slow and ineffective that it takes more than 60 seconds. Then the machine… Read more

overheats after one cup. The frother stem is too short and too close to the machine. A particular type of container has to be found to make it work.

Very good – I have really enjoyed this machine. It is super compact and easy to use. I agree that coffee doesn't come out blisteringly hot but it shouldn't be that hot anyway, otherwise, you burn the coffee. Only hang-up with it is that you can't do too many cups in a run without having to give it a cool down break. So works great for 1-2 people, can… Read more

cope with 3-4 but no more than that. It has proven to be reliable after nearly 2 years use - one of the coffee baskets refused to work after a while but nothing else of note. I have never cleaned it that much and found that coffee continues to taste great (and I can be fussy).

Absolutely worth it – Had it for 1 year and absolutely love it. Use it 2-3 times a day at least in our household. No issues with it, still looks brand new and no colour fading. The machine makes really good coffee! It’s always consistent and the temperature is always perfect. Could not be happier with it! Cant recommend enough! Show details

Loved this machine! Delicious coffee but unfortunately it’s stopped working – I love my SMEG machine but unfortunately it’s stopped working. When the coffee button is pressed it powers on then seems to trail off and nothing comes out. Quite disappointed! Show details ·  1

Love my new Smeg Coffee Machine – Great colours and ease of use and looks good. I had another brand which use to leave the coffee weak but this machine brews a beautiful ground coffee. Easy to clean with just a wipe down. Wouldn't trade it for another machine. Not cheap but well worth it. Show details

Love it – This is a great looking, easy to use and easy to clean machine. The coffee tastes great, consistent time after time. I have had my machine for several months now and I look forward to every coffee. I prefer the coffees I make at home to most coffee shop coffees now.  Show details

Cannot live without – This is by far the best coffee machine. It is easy to set - up, easy to use, easy to clean and in general perfect. Its an excellent addition to any family . Love the range of colours it comes in. Would love if it had a larger water tank. Heast coffee to a good temp and also the milk.  Show details

Like a pro – Well this item in our kitchen is a focal point. Many colours to choose from. From the work go you have many choices of different coffee selections programs to choose from. Again not a cheap product, but you will not be disappointed. The milk steam and froffer is so powerful and the machine is so easy to clean. Looks smike in your kitchen.  Show details ·  1

Excellent so far - no frills just basic but works – We bought this after a bad experience with a much more expensive and complicated machine. Its been great so far. Basic with no frills but works which is exactly what we wanted. You have to make sure not to fill the coffee filter baskets too much or they won't click in so we don't use the one cup one as it isn't big enough for the amount of coffee… Read more

you need for a mug. Changing settings is a bit of a pain due to only having the 3 buttons to work with. Its easy to clean, looks cool, doesn't take up too much room, heats up quickly and if it lasts we'll be super happy with it.

Hopefully it will last – I bought it in blue from TVSN, have had it since 22/2/18. Have so far used the full replacement warranty once, no questions asked pretty much. The Plastic seal/rubber at the top of frother was cracking due to heat. So I got the machine replaced. I will be surprised if it last for several years, not sure it’s fantastic quality. Specially if it has… Read more

cracked already in only 2 months. But the warranty is their if I need it. Looks nice and is small, so easy to fit on bench. Not much too it, I bought my own coffee grinder so didn’t need one attached. This doesn’t come with a grinder, but I find it better to have a coffee machine only focus on pressure and extraction. Not have an inbuilt coffee grinder, I find they have problems and are exspensive to fix. Makes a good cuppa but can’t put a large cup underneath. So I use a jug and fill that up to make a large coffee. Easy to clean but the metal and mirror gets dirty easy and stains easy. Need to make sure you clean it every time and wipe it. I gave it 3 stars as I am happy with the coffee at the moment. Hopefully it will last. I buy coffee beans whole from Aldi which buy them from Melbourne. Coffee is yummy and cheap. Freshly grinded beans are much better. I have tried both and all sorts of coffee brands. Aldi is cheap and taste beautiful suprisingly. Better then the more expensive bean brands.

Overpriced – For the price of this machine you are better off spending the extra $$ and get one that takes beans. The pale blue colour gets dirty and stains easily and is a pain to clean. Avoid this if possible thank you for taking the time to read my review peace out.  Show details

Worked for first 5 coffees then stopped – I fell in love with the design of the machine and thought being Smeg, it was likely to be well designed and built. Whilst the design was what you’d expect from Smeg (loved it), the build felt a bit cheap. There was quite a lot of plastic like components including the power button which use to ‘stick’ and sometimes take ~30mins to pop back out.… Read more

After the first 5 uses, the machine failed to turn back on to make coffees. I took it back to exchange and process through retailer was smooth and efficient. Unfortunately there weren’t any replacements available so they refunded my money.

Aside from that, the steam wand is very short and only makes cappuccino froth. If you love cappuccinos then it will suit you, but if you want to make anything else (latte, flat white etc) then it’ll produce way too much air in the milk (which isn’t want you want when you’re trying to make creamy silky smooth milk for a latte).

Having owned a breville for the last 10 years, I’ve decided to go back to them as it’s often rated number 1 for home espresso machines across many review sites/critics.

Hopefully the fault was just a once off with the Smeg espresso machine, but I didn’t want to risk it again.

So far I like it, and its very cute – For the price I am impressed, although I am no professional barista. Its a little bit noisy, the tray where the cup sits will scratch easily and I have to remove the drip tray to fit my 350ml coffee travel cup but for less than $500, it still makes a nice cup of coffee (with crema) and if youre using nice beans, its a step up from the pod… Read more

machines. Its also the nicest looking coffee machine Ive ever seen. I have not used the milk frother yet, I did read in the manual that you will need to cool the machine after using the frother if you want to make more coffees. Overall, I would recommend it.

Beautiful but wears too easily – Purchased end of May 2017 and was so happy with it. Makes great coffee, easy to clean and use. After a couple of days I noticed the plate the cup sits on was scratched up, and now after 2 months it looks horrible worn. I only use the light weight smeg cup from the pack I purchased so I'd hate to think what a normal cup would do. It wouldn't bother… Read more
