If I could rate them 0, I would.
Smoke Alarm Solutions came to the property I rent today. Smoke Alarms are designed to protect bedrooms from smoke sources (the kitchen generally), and are place accordingly outside of these rooms.
Smoke Alarm Solutions placed one smoke alarm outside of two bedrooms and left two bedrooms unprotected. When questioned, the technician called me names and told me he wasn’t paid to answer my questions and that he was leaving.
Worst. Experience. Ever.
Rudest call centre staff at 1300 853 602
Called 1300 853 602 to get a rough estimate of a time we could expect the technician at our property organised by the real estate, the entry notice said between 8:30 am - 5 pm. Unfortunately, the staff member on the other end of the line instantly took to a bad attitude saying that they weren't going to give a time and that it didn't matter if we were home or not that they would enter the property regardless as they have keys and are allowed to do so. I think that they forgot that renters also have rights and that if someone is going to be in o...ur property that we have every right to be home with them. Just because some people trust anybody in their home doesn't mean that we have to. She had absolutely no phone manners and her attitude brings a drop to the companies credibility. If they can employ such rude, sarcastic people to answer their phones then they mustn't care about the job they are doing or potential customers in the future. Personally I'd give them "0" stars if I could and based on previous reviews I think I'm not the only one with this opinion and they really should lift their call centre game. Technicians are probably great, but the mark is totally missed on their phone operators.
Very abrupt staff
I found the customer service officer rude and abrupt. Kept cutting me off mid sentence on the phone when I was trying to explain why I needed to reschedule. No flow to the conversation, disjointed and directed by me. Di should not be in customer service!
Rip off company
I am in Queensland, have a duplex managed by a real estate company. Got 2 bills of $99 each for smoke alarm solutions to check the alarms yearly, they said it was a government law so I researched it and it isn't, the law is that tenants have to check their smoke alarms yearly and replace battery if necessary. The smoke alarm laws are going to change as from the 1st January 2022 interconnected smoke alarms will have to be installed in the passage leading to bedrooms and in all bedrooms which means the existing smoke alarm will have to be replace...d with a model which can be connected to the others. 2 possibilities: wireless with a 10 year sealed battery or with electrical wire which would have to be installed by an electrician, wireless is the best way as all is required is to screw the alarms in the ceiling. Just for interest I filled in Smoke Alarm Solutions instant quote on their website, it came up with an initial quote of $805 for 3 bedrooms, there was more to enter but I didn't keep going. I can buy from Bunnings Quell battery operated smoke alarms for $45, checked with Bunnings they are government law compliant, and have a 10 year warranty, so no need to change the battery and they have an insect screen which is very good, sometimes an insect gets in the alarm and sets it off when there isn't any smoke. All is needed is a handy man with a drill and screw driver to install them. There are rules as where they should be installed in the ceiling: Smoke alarms must not be placed: within 300mm of a corner of a ceiling and a wall within 300mm of a light fitting within 400mm of an air-conditioning vent within 400mm of the blades of a ceiling fan. So it should be pretty straight forward.
I used the website to book a service for a duplex & paid for it in advance. 3 units installed by Smoke Alarm Solutions had to replaced - 1 because it was noncompliant with a distance from a light & 2 under warranty. That was in October 2019 and I am still in dispute with them about payments in February 2020 despite assurances that things were sorted in December 2019.
Over priced and poor quality service and products
$129 per year, $50 more than others (SAMS) quote cheapest to buy alarms at high end price.
10 year battery (but only warrant 12 months) Charge for every visit, they waste your money fitting new alarms 12 mths before new legislation that don't meet new legislation. Pay kick backs to Real estates so they want to only provide SAS services.
Received a SMS stating;;

Endless false alarms
They recently updated my system due to QLD regulations. Since then the have had to replace the whole system and a couple of visits to replace single items. Sine the update I have had numerous false alarms. The product they used is a PSA lifesaver LIF5800. I have heard these items don't like humidity. As I live in the tropics the product is not fit for purpose. So why do they install them? Because they are cheaper than the alternatives.
I am a renter, I received this message: "Smoke Alarm Solutions has been asked by L J Hooker ##### to check the smoke alarms at your home at ## #### Road. A technician will be in the area on Friday 8 September between 8.30-12.30. Please confirm if someone will be home to allow access by replying 'yes'. This service is at no charge to you and is important for your safety. Government legislation insists on smoke alarm inspections. If this date is not suitable, please contact our office on 1300 852 301 to schedule an alternative date. Thank you for...your co-operation". Till this day I have not found the legislation they refer to. On the contrary, Fire NSW.gov states After the tenancy begins, the tenant is responsible for replacing the battery, if needed, in battery-operated smoke alarms. I let them come once because they won't stop calling me. See pic of how they left it...
This Firm is Dangerous
These people installed our fire alarm in our home in 2017. At the time I asked for an alarm near the kitchen and was told it was not needed and that it should be by the bedrooms. They installed it between the bedrooms in front of low archway about 15-20 ft away from the kitchen and 5ft away from the front door. On Saturday while we were out we had a saucepan fire and when we came back home the back of the house was completely filled with thick, thick, billowing smoke. Not a peep from the smoke alarm. Since then I have checked the Melbourne Fire...& Emergency Services Board and they recommend that if you have high ceilings, which we have, that you should also consider installing fire alarms near the kitchen. http://mfb.vic.gov.au/Community/Home-Safety/SmokeAlarms.html. They also state Smoke alarms must be located between each bedroom area and the rest of the house. However, ours was fitted between the bedrooms by a low arch way and not between the bedrooms and the rest of house. Until the fire happened, I was completely unaware of the fire regulations as I am new to Australia and where I had lived before we did not have house fire alarms. I also trusted that this firm and the installer were experts and knew what they were doing. Big mistake. If you or any members of your family have used these people to install your fire alarms I suggest that you get them checked again and install more if needed. If we had not come back when we did I believe that the house would have even more smoke damage than it did - we are still trying to get rid of it now. Or if there had been a real fire, most of the house would have burnt to the ground before the fire alarm went off. In addition to the issues concerning the installation, we also experienced inept servicing on 3 occasions. In October 2018 someone from the firm came round looked at the fire alarm and said he had checked it by prodding it with a stick. However, I know now that was impossible as to properly check the alarm he needed a ladder as the alarm is 10ft off the ground. So within 2 months in December 2018 the alarm started beeping. Another person came round with a ladder and properly checked it and changed the battery. He said that the alarm had not been checked in October. Unfortunately, the man who checked it in December left the firm without completing the proper paper work and so we had another inspection in February 2019. At no time during any of these inspections, did the people say that we needed to have an alarm near the kitchen or that the alarms were incorrectly located.
Poor quality products
I don't know how a company like this survives... false alarms in the early hours two days after replacing the previous batch of faulty units... long waits on hold trying to notify them....
October 15th 2019 Update: Really.... this has become an industry
As a tenant, we have no choice but to let these guys into our house. Multiple visits to replace faulty alarms that go off in the middle of the night. They all end up in the cupboard... don't know how they survive?
I'm very sleepy
I live in a Mackay rental property, and we recently had them attend the property (offering a window of between 8:30am - 5:00pm) to carry out a routine inspection. The inspection was carried out, and the guy left saying 'alarms may go off in a little while, but don't worry about it.' One week later, we receive another entry notice (same time window for entry). I called to ask if the notice was sent out by mistake. I was told that one of the alarms was deemed faulty, and the original person was not the technician, so could not replace it. They r...e-attended, and now we have an alarm which periodically goes off late at night (the old one didn't). I call to ask them to attend a third time. They organise a time one week from when I called them, and all the while I'm being woken up by this alarm. I just received a text saying they would have to reschedule (which is quite common for routine inspections, but I would have thought this scenario to be a little more pressing). Not sure if it is because we are in a rental property, or if this is just the standard they apply to everyone, but it's very poor form regardless.
Worst Smoke alarm company
Came early from work for 3-5pm scheduled appointment and nobody showed up. When I call them at 4.50pm phone instructor without any apologies asked me to reschedule for 8.30-10.30am as the technicians car had a breakdown. Rude as hell.most disgusting and cheap service ever

They didn't have the correct number of alarms in the house after I got inspected and failed
Renovated my house and employed Smoke Alarm Solutions to have the house to the legal standard and annual inspections carried out before I had a final inspection by a building inspection certifier to pass off everything has been renovated legally. Yes you guessed it. Failed, due to the incorrect number of smoke alarms in the property. Paid this alarm company over three years to have this sorted out. Going to another company to have it fixed.
Bad business and lies
Had an appointment between 8:30 and 9:30. Rang at 9:30 head office we're going to call the tech to see where he was on the road. Never heard back rang again 1 1/2 hours later to find out that his car had been stolen over the weekend and you didn't have the proper equipment so we might have to reschedule. what!
SHOCKING - BROKE GOOD WORKING ALARMS
3 separate occasions we had smoke alarm solutions notify they'd be entering our rental and each time failed to come, so we then got multiple text messages calls and even notification from our real estate that we weren't complying, which we were but they were never coming.
So after a long 6 months of attempts they finally came to "upgrade" our smoke alarms which we had no previous problems with.
We came home from work at 5pm, where the smoke alarm continued to go off every time we turned a light on in the house. We tried taking the batteries...
A Sham - DO NOT USE
Rude unprofessional technicians. Cheap components that are not to OEM specifications, and when I offered to supply my own, three subsequent technicians over four years have verbally abuse me and threaten me that they will have me sued under law quoting the QLD Smoke Alarm Act.
