I’ve used Smoke Alarm Australia across multiple properties over the past 10 years and have always found the technicians to be quick, professional, and efficient. My only issue is with the call centre and appointment scheduling. Communication can be difficult, appointments are often given with very little notice, and confirmed times sometimes get changed shortly after booking. More flexibility and reasonable notice would make a big difference.
Absolute dog trash company , they have some call centre in the Philippines who makes appointments consistently cancels and changes the times I’ve organised people to be there to let them in numerous times and been let down it’s been moths since their report was due and they at the last minute change the times I’ve organised then demand someone be… Read more

NOT RECOMMENDED Unauthorised removal of a personal smoke alarm at my daughter's rental property without my daughter's permission. $40 to replace. What gave this person the right to remove property (personal smoke alarm)? I am furious. Should have just done their job and minded their own business. There is no law that states that people cannot add personal smoke alarms for their own piece of mind.

Fraud of a Company – In 2021, I was charged $75 per flat for four flats to check/inspect smoke alarms. Certificates state that the services were all done between 13 & 19 June 2021. I sighted the guy turn up to do some of them, as I was doing renovation work outside the flats at the time. Two of the flats were vacant at the time, as I had to do some renovation work… Read more
on them also. When I had to pull down the smoke alarms in unit 4 in July to replace the ceilings in the flat I found that the alarm that they had reported as "replaced - faulty" didn't even have a circuit board inside it - there was no chance that they had tested it and it worked. And the flat was vacant the whole time, so no-one else could have tampered with it in the intervening month. Additionally, the smoke alarms in the other vacant flat - unit 3 began to beep with low battery alarms not long after. It takes years of neglecting changing the battery for that to happen.
Now the real estate agent is recommending I get them back for my "peace of mind" - at the rip-off cost of $109 per unit. This price just for the effort of putting in a new 9v battery (which they use ultra cheap ones) and pressing a button. Total of 30 seconds work. And which they still couldn't manage to get right. Nice pretty certificates though....
Companies I use in my other rentals come no-where near this outrageous price combined with the fraudulent service. Best price from another local company is only $24 & I've checked their work and it is spot on. However, I suggest any landlords using Smoke Alarms Australia's services save themselves getting ripped off for hundreds or thousands of $$$ & spend 30 seconds to check the things yourselves.

Horrible incompetence - not as it used to be – A young guy came to our house to check four alarms. He replaced a battery in the first one, but didn't even bother to test it. Only after I reminded him to test the alarm, he sprayed it with the test smoke can. Then he replaced other three alarms' batteries, sprayed them from a close distance of about 5cm, blew it from his mouth and found all… Read more
alarms to be faulty. Why faulty? Because alarms continued sporadic beeping, probably because of some remaining air spray. So, what has happened next? The guy told that he was just a trainee and not qualified to install replacement alarms but can only install temporary ones. After 20min struggling with the screwdriver, he finally managed to screw temp alarms hanging over old outlets. Finally, he left mentioning that another technician should come and install permanent alarms. My questions to Smoke Alarm management: 1. Doesn't spraying smoke can from a close distance damage the alarm permanently? This is what most smoke alarm manuals state. 2. Why do you hire irresponsible people who don't even bother to test alarms after battery replacement? 3. Why do you hire people who can hardly manage a screwdriver? 4. Assuming that all three alarms were faulty (which I doubt, because it seems the technician destroyed them or could not check properly), why could not your technician instantly install a new one? It is just a simple click-in operation, but the guy even didn't have replacement alarms. 5. I've been using Smoke Alarm AU for the last 20 years or so. What has happened with all your old good technicians who knew the job and could have never made a mess like that? 6. Is it really cost-effective to send so incompetent technicians who are not able even to replace alarms first, then more qualified second? Is it a sign of your brilliant management?

Compliance issues Resolved Great service – I wish to congratulate Scott Rymer the National compliance manager for Smoke alarms Australia for his excellent service in following up and dealing with a compliance matter for one of our landlords properties they service for our office. compliant when it did already comply and Scott looked into this and challenged and overturned this decision with all the facts and laws to confirm this other company was not truthful and saved our landlords $1,100 of unnecessary work they said was needed. Great work Scott for all your professional and technical advice and hard work to get this result , your a great asset to your company.
Cannot beat the Service – It is rare to get such excellent service and follow-up. I received the Smoke alarms in very quick time, perfectly padded and packed. The next morning I received a personal email with video attachment for Installation. Nigel Ellis asked me to contact him with any queries. So good to be treated so well and not as just another number in the line. Well done Nigel and IPESA. Thank you.

Company doesn't care what their techs do in your home – I had a tech come to my home. Arrived much earlier than agreed, I was still in my pajamas. Poor customer service – I had an appointment with the company today between 2.30pm and 2.45pm. I finished my hydrotherapy treatment early today to be home at this time. I received a message from Tom the technician at 1.51pm to notify me that he would not be able to attend and would have to rebook. I have disabilities and was home around 1.40pm. This is disgusting and inconsiderate service. No reasons or exceptions why the appointment was cancelled.

Awful. Would give zero stars if possible – Customer service shocking. Completely unable to set a time. lock in a decent time frm the beginning. They cancelled without explanation or decent warning. They then tried repeatedly for early morning time slots prior to Christmas day. Finally, the technician arrived today around 8.30am when expected between 9.12 - 9.22am, and when I told him it was inconvenient. He argued that it would not take long. The technician then blocked the hallway and access from one of the rooms where, he told one of the young ones about to leave for work, that he would not be long. I had told him as he was poking his ladder through my front door (which was left wide open as I had just walked in from watering the garden) that people were getting ready to leave for work. When I contacted the company, I was rudely patronised and told it was my right to complain. I'm not sure who was ruder; the technician or the person texting me when I attempted to complain, at SMOKE ALARMS AUSTRALIA. I advised them I would not have agreed to a time prior to 9.00am. These people cannot simply turn up at anytime and expect (push their way in) admission, let alone prior to 9.00am.

Terrible phone representatives – Making an appointment with them is frustrating, the phone representatives will give you one time, sms you a different time and then say their technicians don’t work past 4pm. Even though they’re the ones that booked it in after 4pm. This company shouldn’t be used by real estates for booking in tenants that have jobs. They won’t help you. The technicians themselves are great. It’s the people on the ends of the phone that ruin it for this company.
Unprofessional and harrying Company – I am a tenant, why do landlords and Property managers use this service. Constantly receive txt are you available yes or no. Your response with Yes. following day (not a fantastic business practice right there) with a YES or NO reply system. After months of going back and forth over when they would be available, I had finally been able to say YES to an inspection. Only to have them call the following day, less than an hour before the technician was due, to book for a different day. The lady I spoke with had absolutly no knowledge of the techincian having been booked at all.
Absolutely abysmal service and I would have nothing to do with this company if I wasn't forced to by my property management company.
Excellent – Brooke Pacheco- Business Relations Manager in NSW is so helpful. Brooke reached out to me offering assistance with my role as a Property Manager. She helped me in the sense that I am currently working remotely in a flood affected area and needed help with affected properties that were in our SAA portal. Brooke has a delightful and approachable phone manner who genuinely cared.
Very difficult company to deal with – My last rental used Smoke Alarms Australia. They were nothing but difficult to deal with. the next day but they would never turn up. When I would call to ask where they were, there was never a record of an appointment or even what had happened the night before. They would just try to organise for someone to come out the next day leaving the house without working smoke alarms for another night. When they would finally get a technician out they would just replace the alarms with the same product every single time and every single time they would go off again. It was the most frustrating experience. They would never return phone calls when they said they would. The admin staff don't seem to be properly listening to you and when I made formal complaints they never responded to them. The situation was never resolved, we just had to move out as the owners wanted to live in the house. So I dare say the alarms are still going off now. I would never recommend using this company. I am unsure as to how it still exists considering what a poor service/lack of service they provide.
Useless – Contacted me prior to getting the keys to my current lease and told them to contact the agent. Nothing.
