expecting a tax refund I would ask to complete it in a couple of weeks, but more often than not mine got pushed back and I waited months. What made me switch though originally was the fact that my last accountant kept increasing the fees exponentially (I am aware that we all need to make a living, but the increase was somewhere between 20-30 percent per annum the last couple of years and pretty much no changes in activity), when I asked for an explanation the answer I was given was: "to limit my share trading", might as well have said, don't create any work for me or any income for yourself, but let me charge you a massive fee for it anyways.

Can't say I was impressed by that answer, it's not like I day trade, I have maybe 20-30 trades a year and keep a spreadsheet of gains and lossed made etc.

So I started looking around. I was very cautious, as one hears all these bad stories. I read their reviews and did my research and the only thing I wish I had done differently is switching to them years earlier. Emily and her assistant Abbey have been wonderful to deal with.

They also picked up that my SMSF company was set up as a trading company rather than just the trustee for my superfund, so now I am changing this as well and reducing my annual ASIC fee by a couple of hundred dollars each year as well.

I feel like they actually have my best interest at heart, rather than me just being another income source.

their setup costs of $2000. This was worth it as I had a new up to date trust deed complying with all the current requirements. They use the Class Super platform which is brilliant. My previous accountants use the same platform but charge $4,000pa compared to $1,430pa. As a retired accountant I can highly recommend their service and wouldn't even contemplate doing the financial accounts myself as it is a specialised area. Once the final dividend statement was received the fund accounts were completed, audited and lodged with the ATO in 8 days. The financial accounts took 2 days to receive and the final audit the rest. If you are planning to setup an SMSF then I would suggest having a corporate trustee as it is more flexible in the long run and costs very little to maintain ($70pa). Their website has a lot of resources as well to help. If you have an SMSF already and want to save on headaches and annual fees then I would look no further.

The whole process was incredibly quick and straightforward, with everything done remotely - no juggling appointments with work, comfortably doing everything at home - except for opening up the bank account!

Not to be trusted – I submitted a request for information about the additional charges. My BAS almost non-existent and I do it myself. I tried to tell them they only need to do it yearly but they said no. I would hate to think of all the additional charges that will come out of the woodwork.
