As a warning I would not use Solar Chief as a contactor to install a Solar System. I had to wait 3 months to have my system installed which was the time limit in the contact to cancel. & none compliance issues. I have sent numerous emails with no action. Made phone calls with promises but not action. I have logged a compliant with The New Energy Tech Consumer Code who also have not been able to get Solar Chief to respond. With that none response I have now logged a complaint with the Building Commission NSW.

I should have trusted my instincts when the sales agent kept bugging me to sign a sales contract. I eventually signed one in early December 2025, and paid the $1,000 deposit. by mid February, which was a hard deadline as I needed the solar panels installed for the Occupancy Certfiicate (OC) of my home development.

After no contact in three months, I called them in early to mid February 2026 asking when installation would occur. I got put onto the installation scheduler who said he would send a technician to review the job but "when one was available in the area". I had asked that my builder be on site, but I couldn’t get a commitment for a time and date until one night a got a message at 5pm that they would be on site the next day at 11a, (they turned up at 10am).

There was some communication breakdown as to the requirements of the solar and battery installation, but I basically outlined that I didn't want a conduit running up the front of my new house, and it would need to be at the back or side. They called back in the second week of March 2026 saying they couldn't do the job, and to take my deposit back. This is days before I was told installation would occur, and approximately two weeks prior to my OC being signed off - which couldn't occur without the solar installed.

The initial sales agent revealed to me that my job "will take a couple of days", and in that time "they could install two to three batteries per day". I then realised that the battery rebate was reducing by the end of April and these dodgy installers were randomly cancelling jobs to focus on those which deliver them the most profit. It had nothing to do with my job being too difficult, as was claimed at one point.

These guys don't install their own work, and are just a retail front. They don't respect their own contract that they pushed to have me sign, and are happy to burn customers to make a quick buck on government rebates. I am in a pickle as I can't get my OC and we plan on moving into the house in the next two weeks.

prices that felt high. In contrast, Neal from Solar Chief was responsive, helpful and provided an extremely competitive quote for a good quality system, that wasn't in excess of our requirements. Other companies seemed intent on selling us the "top of the range" option, without much willingness to provide quotes for a system that represented value for money. Not only was Solar Chief's quote more competitive on price, but it allowed us to install a larger system, without sacrificing quality or warranty. After researching the quoted hardware (JA Solar DeepBlue 4.0 Pro panels, Growatt 8000TL-X2 inverter), we felt confident that not only were we getting a great price, we were getting solid components with a long and comprehensive warranty period. We were quoted a prospective install 3-4 weeks after a deposit was paid. Imagine our surprise when we received a call the next day to schedule installation for the following Monday - 4 business days after we made our deposit payment! Installation was conducted professionally and efficiently, by a team that was happy to provide their licence details upon request. They discovered a few cracked roof tiles during install - nowhere near the system installed, likely already damaged - and volunatarily installed new tiles from our own stock of spares we had in storage under the house. We'd have not known about the damage as they were out of sight from the ground. An unexpected and much appreciated gesture. The system has performed without fault since install, and we've received great after sales support when we needed to reconfigure our inverter to connect to a new home WiFi network. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Solar Chief, specifically their salesman Neal, to anyone who is shopping for a good value home solar system. We absolutely will be working with them when the time comes to look at a battery system, or system expansion when and if we purchase an EV. Thanks Neal!

John did my installation. I wrote a google review and decided to write a review here because I was so impressed. Excellent price, excellent communication, it was genuinely a 5 start service.

Not a good company to go with, system installed worked for 3 days then failed, half of the house had no power for 4 months until they finally sent someone to have a look. Yes, I received a small donation for my inconvenience and I thanked them. I was told that the system will be replaced, another 3 months passes and I cannot even get a reply for when this will occur. Absolute shonks! totally disappointed.

We were very happy with the whole process, from quote to final installation. Thanks Martin for organising it all. The installation went smoothly. The 3 guys on the day did a great job from start to finish. I highly recommend this company.

Original quote - and the subsequent requote (for a larger system) - were provided very quickly. Conversations with the sales representative were meaningful and, no other competitor endeavoured more to take into account what I was looking for and provide a solution to match. The installation was promised in a fair timespan but was actually rescheduled and completed much, much sooner. And the delivered solution is everything I wanted or more

Excellent service and quick response on questions or changes that were required. Able to make changes to contract e.g. “blackout protection” and additional panels during the day of system installation. the Sungrow solar power system is much better than I expected. The Sigen App interface provides easy to understand details about the system operating status. Well done all concerned.

The solar Cheif team was very easy to deal with. William was very contactable. Installation team was very cooperative and very tidy. The installation was very professionally done very happy with the job they did.

handling of the situation. After seven weeks of empty promises, I was advised that an appointment had been made with Talkback Radio to discuss the company live on air — only then was the refund finally processed. Their conduct throughout has been unprofessional and extremely disappointing.

Update – 5:30 pm, 29 October: [Name Removed] first promised the refund would be processed within 30 minutes, then by 5 pm, and finally by the end of the day. None of those promises were kept — I’m still waiting for my refund.

I will continue updating this review daily until my refund is received.

Update – 5:30 pm, 28 October: I was once again promised that my deposit would be refunded after waiting seven weeks for no progress. They guaranteed it would be paid by 5 pm today — yet nothing has happened, again.

Avoid this company — terrible experience. I paid a $500 deposit and was left waiting for six weeks with no progress or updates. Despite repeatedly asking for a reference number to confirm whether they’d even applied for my upgrade, I received nothing.

I was also quoted for a 3-phase upgrade, but when I called the energy distributor six weeks after paying the deposit, they confirmed that no application had ever been made. During that entire time, Solar Chief kept delaying and promising that the application would be submitted and that the system would be installed within six weeks — none of which happened.

After posting my review on Google, the representative even tried to pressure me to take it down, warning that otherwise there would be further delays in refunding my deposit.

I’ve since been asking for my deposit to be refunded, but I’ve just been going around in circles with no result. I’ll be contacting the Department of Fair Trading today to lodge a formal complaint.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. I’m not even sure they’re properly licensed.
