Over price and loaded with bloatware – ok enough display, weird bugs with the Sony volume service. Great once upgraded to AndroidTV 8 and disabled all the Sony bloatware; suggested apps and other junk i never needed/wanted Show details
Started off great. Now it’s glitchy and keeps shutting down – Bought this through HN about a year and a half ago (2017) paired with a Yamaha sound bar. Set it up to do automatic software updates. It was great the first year, then earlier this year it started to become glitchy. It would shut down every few minutes and the Android logo would come up on screen, like when it’s rebooting. It’s started happening… Read more
so often that we’ve been unable to watch anything, Netflix or even terrestrial broadcasts. I’ve tried manually updating the software and even did a factory reset. We’ve only downloaded a couple of extra apps that didn’t originally come preloaded with the TV.
Have to try and see if we can get it repaired or serviced. Thankfully we purchased the extended warranty. We’ll now know if that’s worth the paper it’s printed on.
Will update if I hear from the seller/Sony.
Major software glitch had to be replaced after 3 days – Poor operating system has been replaced after 3 days which is a major hassle. Pic quality is average and we have amazing antenna reception. Don’t even bother watching sport on it live sport mode is a complete waste of time. Won’t buy Sony again if this is their level of quality. Show details
Awesome Television ! – Sony X8500D is an excellent TV with world class picture and sound quality. The 65inch screen is pleasure to watch with Triluminous technology the picture makes a difference. It is based on a Android platform which is OK but Sony should think about launching there own platform, android system sometimes hangs up and then you have to reset the TV… Read more
set. Overall its been a great experience owning and watching Sony x8500D TV. The screen panel is ultra thin, not more than the thickness of a smart phone. If you have small kids better get a screen belt which holds the TV firmly and secures it to the TV cabinet. Controls on TV are located at a convenient location and can be reached easily. To end up I would say nothing compares to a Sony.
Never Ever Again – Will never buy a sony product again. Tv has been faulty since 3-4 months after purchase. Tv tuning Gippsland and Tasmania channels with no picture displayed.(Live in Melb metro area). Netflix stops working randomly, tv freezes and reboots randomly, deleted channels reappear, program list doesn't display stored channels, channel change slow/laggy.… Read more
(Other 2 tv's in house (Samsung and Hisense) have never had any issues at all. O/S customer service call centre hopeless, very hard to communicate with. Have performed over 8 factory resets at Sony's request. Up to 5th service call, have had mother board replaced(my brand new tv is now refurbished) still have same issues. After mother board replaced my 65 inch tv became a 55 inch tv. Info was displaying K55 X8.... instead of K65X8500D. Really????? Over 6 months later and no resolution. They have now taken tv away for assessment.(I'm not making this up, this is 100% true) No offer of replacement or refund as I've requested numerous times. Only positive was picture quality on hd viewing (only) very good. Audio quality very poor. Needs sound bar. This whole experience has been an absolute nightmare and I will never go near another sony product again. Should have bought the Samsung or Hisense which is what I set out to buy and not listened to the pushy salespeople in all 3 stores JB, Harvey N, and Good guys all pushing the Sony???? Allowing 3 attempts to repair product is more than enough in mine and most peoples opinion. Product has been discontinued, geeeee I wonder why???
The quality is good, but it could be better with OLED – On the boxing days 2016, I bought this TV and have been using until now. It is still going well, my son plays the game every day and the quality of the pictures are excellent. I compared the quality with the Hisense one and I don't regret with my purchase. Show details
Best picture ever – The picture quality of this TV is amazing. We got it for a great price last Christmas from the end of year sony store sales. It works with the xbox one x with all the settings. It may be the 8500E. Not 100% sure. I would recommend this unit to everyone looking for a large flat screen. Show details
vibrant colors – I owned a TV similar to this. I loved how HD the display of this TV is. the colors were vibrant which made the images/videos crisp. this feature made watching delightful. One thing though is its sound, it's a little too weak for my liking. Everytime I watch, I have to turn the volume to 70% and above just to give myself a superb movie time experience. Show details
Love it! – The picture quality is great and the operating system and apps are user friendly. The only bad thing to report is the built-in speakers. They are very tinny and annoying to listen to but luckily I have a sound system set up so I have the tv speakers set to 0. Show details
Simply Elegant TV , loveit – Very hitech and ultra modern TV, beautiful crisp bright picture. The 4K feature is stunning. Very slim design, has four HDMI ports, seamless connectivity with smart phone.Free to air TV is easy to use, has dedicated Netflix and Google TV. Am finding the remote takes some time to get used to and may lag.9/10 Show details
Good compromise – Great pick up right now since new TVs are coming out these guys are getting reduced to low prices. Good picture quality, has android TV which is nice. Sound is quite good. If you are thinking of wall mounting your TV like we did this TV was pretty easy to do that. Overall good purchase. Show details
Great smart tv – My husband and I bought the 55 and the 65inch sony 4K smart tvs at Christmas time. I can't fault them, they update when needed and are very quick. We are considering buying a 75 inch for our living space, the 55 inch is perfect for our media room but I'd love to move it to our bedroom. Great smart tv for those starting out heaps of features and easy to use Show details
Do not buy this TV or any other android TVs, they have a long way before becoming a reliable TV OS – Update: Sony finally replaced my unit with a new one (8500E - the 2017 model) in November 2017 - that’s 6 months after my intial reporting of issues to Sony. I didn’t even unbox the unit and sold it on gumtree. Got a Samsung Q8 instead - I know it’s more expensive - and I couldn’t be happier! Try a Samsung’s menu and responsiveness before… Read more
considering a Sony.
In a nutshell, do not buy this TV or any other android TVs, they have a long way before becoming a reliable TV OS and their warranty means peanuts. Here is my experience with this unit:
TV started having several issues from day one:
Extreme lip-synch issues – this was up to 2 seconds on digital antenna TV channels and up to 15 seconds on live streaming
Intermitted restarts – every time TV takes more than 3 minutes to restart and menus to fully load - you can imagine how annoying that can be when you are in middle of watching something
Menus are extremely slow – this also applies to simple tasks like changing channels or turning the volume up and down. All the sudden there is loud bit and you want to turn the volume down, but by the time the volume is turned down the loud bit is over!!!
When plugging in a USB flash drive or HDD, you will need to wait more than 5 minutes for the content to load!
There were several other problems as well so I called the warranty. Sony subcontracts its warranty issues in Melbourne to a firm called European Electronics. They checked the TV and said they need to change the main board. Great! I was happy and they did. Lip-synch issue was PARTIALLY fixed but then other problems started to show up on top of the issues listed above:
TV restarts have became more frequent
Search features do not work anymore
Voice recognition doesn’t work anymore
The search button on the remote doesn’t work
All this is in addition to the issues TV had in the first place!
So I called Sony and asked for a replacement and they sent the European Electronics in again! This time the diagnosis was very interesting! They blamed it all on my router! And advised me to update the firmware. So I did and problems still exists. In my last call with the European Electronics, their service manager said that these TV are not designed for this kind of application! He said that he uses an Android Box and that I should do the same! So I just paid $3K for a TV that is not designed to do a smart TVs job! He said that there is an issue with the Android OS that when there is a low bandwidth, the OS goes bananas and restarts! Funny enough they consider this a firmware glitch (which it is) that the customer needs to wait for Sony to update and fix in the future. But I am still having difficulty understanding why I can use my TV to run HD content on Netflix, but the search button or voice recognition doesn’t work! That Internet and router excuse just doesn’t cut it for me!
There is one good thing about this TV and it’s the picture quality, the problem is getting to that picture and keeping it running! And btw, don't be fooled by 'android os'; TV comes with a very bad internet browser and you can't even install popular apps like Chrome or Foxtel. And do have a look at the remote too!
So now I still have warranty left on the TV and they are not willing to fix or replace it and I am stock with this faulty unit.
Way to go Sony in winning and keeping loyal customers!

Great TV – Picture quality is great in most instances but for sport it seems to loose its clarity with slight blurring around the moving figures. Price was good compared with other similar products. Integration with other technologies is good, plenty of ports provided. Speaker quality is ok but not its strong point Show details
This is perfect TV! – - 4K TV, picture quality is perfect. - The built in speaker is good too, not even need to plug in other external speaker, but if you have subwoofer will be more perfect. - The TV have 4 HDMI ports, it right enough for my family to plug in all other units like PS4 etc. - TV is using Android system, easy to learn and use for the whole family. Perfect TV does more than just play TV – Very happy with this purchase, screen quality is amazing, not worth spending for the x9300 we found, this is just as good with a slightly larger frame edge as we found was the onl noticeable difference. response time is good for gaming, but the smart tv functions make it a gem, built in chromecast is perfect for youtube and pairing phones… Read more
cameras tablets etc, and google store apps are perfect for all media ie kodi.
ive found the wifi is good too can stream HD movies just as fast as LAN,
drawback is the remote, its veryy fussy with the angle it takes but you can download the app and use your phone as remote anyway, voice remote is a cool function too.
Excellent TV! – This TV is absolutely awesome, it can display a great array of colours from the brightest to the darkest of darks. Quality is fantastic, Sony have never let me down when its come down to their TVs, especially their 4k range. I have my ps4 connected to this TV and i am pleasantly surprised! Show details
Great UHD and HD picture quality – I purchased the 65xd8500d in June 2017 for $2340 from Bing Lee. It was a good price and the picture quality looked awesome in store when playing 4k content. The tv replaced my previous Sony 46 inch lcd tv that lasted 9 years before the screen developed ghosting. The new tv was easy to set up. The picture quality when playing 4k or HD content is… Read more
excellent. SD TV channels look a little pixelated. I had two issues with the tv at first. The first issue was the voice search button which stopped working after the first software update. The button uses bluetooth. After two days of research, I unpaired the remote and paired the remote again which fixed the issue. I use the voice search all the time and it works great with good accuracy. The second issue was light bleed coming from the top left and bottom right bezel. It was very annoying especially when watching a movie with black bars above and below the video. I was considering calling Sony to send a tech out to check the tv for a fault. More research on AV Forums explained how others have dealt with the problem. I used a microfibre cloth and softly massaged the areas with light bleed. Straight away the light bleed was reduced by 50%. I thought that was it and that I would have to live with it. Two days later I noticed the light bleed was almost entirely gone. Im so much happier with my purchase after a few early hurdles. The sound from the tv although adequate is a little disapointing. My 9 year old Sony LCD sounded better. The sound is clear and loud but tinny lacking bass. I will be buying a sound bar in the future to improve the sound quality. Overall I would recommend the tv as a good buy from a good brand.
Great TV - love the picture quality – Great tv.. love the picture. The only tiny downfall is when the curtains are open and sun comes in it makes the screen harder to see (it is a bright room) but when closing curtains or not a bright day.. is perfect :) Everyone who comes round comments on how good the picture quality is :) Show details
This is awesome – Picture quality is good and very bright. it runs android 6.0.1 really amazing. . i like google voice search. my family like it.. easy to use. i only hate remote control. there is no motion mouse inside remote. otherwise good and beter then other tvs. i dont like sound clarity but not very bad. Pretty much flawless – The picture quality is stunning with a very satisfying built in sounds although having speakers makes a bit of s difference to the experience. The ports are perfect and have pretty kuch everything you'd desire and the apps and menus are very presentable, overall I'm very happy with this purchase. Show details
We are very happy with this TV – We have only had the TV for 3 x weeks. But we are very happy with it. Picture is excellent in all areas. We added a sound bar as sound was not as good as we wanted. the remote is easy to use and we can often find what we are looking for without having to look up manual. We would love more app to be availible as some we needed were not availible. Overall this is a great TV and easy to use. Show details

Great picture - adequate software - poor support – After about three months use, we love our 65X8500D. The picture is amazing (at a distance of about 3.5M) - cognisant of the source. The sound is adequate and the android OS provides a degree of flexibility we haven't had in a TV before with awesome integration between terrestrial and IP sources. The one let down we find is that SONY is… Read more
extremely slow in updating the Android OS. This is something that all hardware manufacturers using Android should be aware of and allot are guilty of. Update that OS SONY!
Not all its cracked up to be – I have had and used the Sony XD658500D for little over a month now and it's been quite a let down. The menus and options are painfully slow (the whole thing is slow in general) compared to other brands, even cheaper ones. Not to mention the poor layout of the menus and sub menus. It is a daily challenge to get it to connect over WiFi to a network.… Read more
The speakers are pretty good but not amazing, picture quality is very good, could use a slightly brighter back panel like Samsung and it would be perfect. There are plenty of connection ports on the TV which is great. Overall I wouldn't recommend it for the money not when there are better sets out there for the same coin.
Reasonable, but difficult to pair with surround – TV was easy to do initial set up, TV speakers are good. Simple connection to internet via cable or wifi, and Netflix built in app/button is seamless. Down sides. We have purchased a top range 5.1 surround sound set up to accompany the TV and have had endless difficulties getting the TV to connect properly. Should be able to do it via HDMI, but… Read more
only sends out 2.1 signal. Via optical cable we can get 5.1 however it's not working properly and it's mixing signal from front and rear speakers. We have confirmed that the issue isn't with the amp, the TV itself is sending out the wrong information, and attempting to speak to Sony support is like trying to ring Centrelink.
Picture quality is fantastic, you can really feel the difference with the 4K when playing PlayStation 4pro games.
Fantastic TV – This is an Excellent TV from a high quality brand. I have a 65 inch Sony X8500D. I've had this for 4 months now. The image quality is excellent. The remote control has good function. I love that it's so thin. I've taken 1 star off for the base...a little chunky for my liking Show details
Broke down after 4 days – Picture quality was good on HD channels , speakers are a bit tinny, Has plenty of ports, TVs guide doesn't load info until you select the Channel then go back, Doesn't control any other accessories with remote TV started flashing snow on right hand third of the screen on all inputs have to send back for repair not happy Show details
Bought for my partners birthday - a well loved present! – We bought this tv which was the middle of the range in terms of picture quality but we are really pleased. We thought about an OLED tv but they are just way too expensive and unless you have the TVs next to each other I can't say it makes enough of a difference to justify the price jump. It has plenty of ports, integrates easily with his phone and PlayStation and the smart TVs options are great. Show details
Great Smart TV – I am very happy with this TV. I do sometimes have an issue with the TV loosing internet connection or being a little slow to connect but overall it is a great TV. As a smart TV it is very user friendly and the picture and sound is exceptional. looks great with a lovely slim line look. Show details
Not very user friendly – Android smart TVs operating system is absolutely rubbish. Navigation is awful. Customisation is mostly non existent. Filled with lots of manufacturer crapware. Picture Good Sound Ok can sound a little tinny at times Heaps of ports Does a lot of things that are just not " normal". Struggled to play downloaded to and movies. Compared to other competitors it was really hard to use. Show details
I have had this about 3 months and all seems good but the trouble is the web browser ,it's teriable – Not a bad tv but browser is not that great.Picture is very good but sound is lowesy.Apps are easy to work and I love playing my YouTube library through my 6 speakers and subs, but the neighbors hate it.Plenty of ports and easy to hook up all my components too.Get a 4K blue ray and enjoy the picture. Can't believe how good it is – We have had this TV for a week and so far we are extremely pleased with it. The quality of the picture just amazes us, so clear, detailed and vibrant. We are using just the standard settings. Sound is reasonable, a bit tinny sometimes, but we aren't going to use the soundbar that we had to use with the Panasonic as we don't thin it's really… Read more
needed.
Still learning to navigate through the apps etc, but it all seems quite simple to navigate.
Nice having a Netflix button on the remote.
The remote is a bit tricky to use, with tiny writing, and the centre wheel is not raised, so it's easy to press the buttons next to it. Luckily there is a Back button.
We thought the 3yo Panasonic was good, but we had no idea how far advanced the Sony would be. We bought it for our new home as a celebratory purchase.
So glad we did.
