Stihl RE 118 Questions & Answers
VerifiedRe118 intermittent start up when operating. Filter clean and water pressure to blaster sufficient. Any help? Regards Arty Keeping.
re 118 starts up ok, and with plenty water going trough it and no airlock , pull the trigger in gun handle , it doesn,t respond to pressurize.
How many pounds per square inch is there re 118
Is it possible to repair a Power Wash 118 , the fault is lack of pressure?
My sthil re119 works fine if you keep the trigger on when letting the trigger go the machine doesn’t start again straight away keeping the trigger pressed for a couple of minutes it starts again and is ok as long as you keep the trigger on is this some sort of valve problem. Any help?
Not sure but from what I have gathered , and not being an engineer by any stretch!! is it's the water pressure that starts the machine working so you are probably right , it's taking time to get up to pressure. Having said that I would expect it to stop working once you release the pressure so ......i suppose the trigger being depressed may start the pump.
My RE 118 pressure pump is working OK. But it turns on and off every two seconds. It is obviously the switch. How can I buy a new switch? Harley [email removed]
I have not had this problem, but if I was in your situation I would talk first to a Stihl agent. They can supply parts or get them in, and they might be able to advise on the problem. Although it sounds like the switch something else might be going on. So you can try talking to an agent, or talking to Stihl themselves. If I was you I would take it in to the agent and let them fix it. If its still under warranty thats even more reason to take it in.
Thank you for replying to my question. I have two RE118 pressure pumps. Both of them when they were in warranty had the same problem.(twice) The Stihl agent recently fixed one but did not fix the older one citing the labour costs were going to be too high. Could you send me an exploded view of the parts so I know what to order. I will fix it myself. Harley
I have just been reading the reviews on my two Stihl 118s. It seems that my problem is not unique so I still require an exploded view of the Stihl 118 and the parts prices. Harley
My 118 suddenly stopped, water and power connected .Is there a fuse somewhere in the unit which may have burnt out?
I don't know. I always follow the instructions and switch off at the unit every time I stop a job for longer than a few minutes - I read in the Instructions that this is necessary because leaving it in 'On' mode at the unit even when not being used for 5 minutes or more will cause that sort of problem. So far it's been a great machine. I suggest checking trouble shooting in the on line Manual, and speaking to a Stihl agent
There appears to be a thermal cutout to protect the unit if it overheats from operating for too long. However my 118 sometimes fails to start even from cold, and after 5 minutes it switches on automatically. I believe there are some faulty thermal cutouts installed in these units. Mine failed after the warranty expired and the price that the local agent wants to repair it is just about worth more than the unit. The high pressure seals in the wand also seem to fail after just a short period of time.
