The price is outrageously cheap, so in terms of value it does the job for sure, that said I will get something different when it eventually dies... here are my pros and cons: Positives - Really quality metal construction, compact size for storing in cupboard & the lever is useful for keeping it closed during storage & the price is a bargain Cons… Read more · 1
- The lever doesn't really work, it squashes things, so imo its not the ideal tool for making jaffles (which is the only thing I use it for), that said im sure you could easily cook eggs or whatever you wanted on it... its also extremely hot, and it gets there extremely fast.. sounds like a pro but its scary hot.. I make sure not to turn it on until my food is ready to go straight on, and am a bit paranoid I'll leave it on one day and it will melt components.
I am in rental awaiting my new home to be built & hate the oven & cooktop here, so I bought the Sunbeam Cafe Style Sandwich Press & Maker in August 2024. It has well & truly paid for itself, over & over again. I have made so many meals on it, of all types. I especially love making wraps, with either egg or cheese in the middle. I have re-heated pizza & baked beans, etc. I just love it & is so quick & easy to make a meal. Well done Sunbeam. Show details · 1
The best – Love this so much. Cooks the nicest toasted sandwiches and eggs too. The best one I've used. Show details
+++ Brilliant +++ – I purchased from Myers (March 2023) on Special $55. I’m very impressed, definitely an improvement in comparison with older Sandwich Makers. Plus, it is versatile, it is not just a Sandwich Maker….a must for ever kitchen…..breakfast or a snack in a couple of minutes & it can be stored Upright ! Show details · 2
A man's best friend – Started the carnivore diet last month and thought this would be great addition for early morning breakfasts instead of firing up the BBQ everyday. Perfect for eggs, bacon and sausages. Heats up almost instantly and the clean up after is literally a case of giving it a couple of wipes with some kitchen towel. The speed of use and ease of cleaning… Read more
has even led to me cooking a few steaks on the it in the evening (which I would normally consider blasphemous). But the additional heat plate on top actually gives an even sear on both sides and essentially cooks the steak twice as fast. Now my missus is in on the act. She likes to put half the fridge in her toasted sandwiches so previous sandwich makers never worked for her and she would end up using the oven. But the AnyHeight control is a game changer for her as she gets perfect even toasting without compromising the "structure" of the sandwich. Only regret is that I didn't get the 4 or 6 slice to allow me cook more at once, although when you live in a Sydney apartment, space is at a premium.
Best small appliance – I was given this product to test and it’s been amazing. It works well to not only cook food but also to reheat food! The heating plates have a little depth so I can add a bit of liquid to help steam then sear my veges with the grill marks. Toasties also taste fantastic with the grill plates…. a nice crispy texture.
We also love using the sandwich press to reheat cold pizzas and hot chips.
Overall, the Sunbeam sandwich press exceeded my expectations. The heat plates ensure the food is cooked evenly and the grill marks provide a nice touch.
Compact, perfect for small kitchens and easy to use! – I’m very happy with my new sandwich maker. It heats up very fast, and the height control lever is such a great feature. No more squished wraps for breakfast! So good. The non-stick surface and the round corners are game changer, it makes it very easy to clean. I highly recommend this product! Show details
Easy, quick and compact – A good mix of size, ease of use and functionality. It is ready to go in about 2 minutes and sustains a even amount of heat throughout. Size wise, the ability to store this vertically on it's two feet makes it easy to store in a kitchen cupboard. The best part is the ability to set the height at whatever you want, which gives you the option of heating the toppings without having to clean the top plate. It's just the right combination. Stylish, compact and easy to use – Perfect product for those looking for a stylish, compact and easy to use sandwich press and grill! I really like the look and feel of the product, adding a stylish edge to my collection of appliances yet doesn’t take up much room. 2 in 1 functionality of being a sandwich maker and a grill super handy, letting me fry up ingredients to go with my sandos without having to pick up a pan. Last but not least, the choose your own height of the top plate is a game changer. No more squished sandwiches! Highly recommended product overall!
Reliable and as expected! – Great sandwich press, the size is good and height adjustment so you can raise the lid and not squish food. Heats well and extremely non stick. Easy to clean! Highly recommend Show details

Perfect for a small apartment – The sandwich press' flat plate at the bottom and the grill on top is genius! The grill marks make my sandwiches and steak inviting. I've also been using the sandwich press to fry bacon and beef patties and it was so convenient! I feel like the height control lever makes it easier to cook whichever way you like. those extra crispy thinner sandwiches, but also make the grill plate higher so that it just stays above the bread. This is a great feature making the sandwich press versatile.
The grill heats up fast, saving me time to wait. Best of all, you can simply wipe the plate and grill with paper towel after use. It's easy to clean.
As my kitchen is small and there's limited bench top space, I appreciated you can stand the sandwich press vertically for easy storage. It can slide easily in my pantry too.
I've been using it for breakfasts, snacks and at times when I just want a simple meal that's warm and easy to make. I recommend this sandwich press to anyone looking for convenience; versatility; and an easy to clean & store kitchen appliance.
Genuinely surprised at how good this machine is – I was pleasantly surprised to be chosen under the Ambassador program to receive and review the Sunbeam 2-Slice Sandwich Press & Maker. To be honest, I kinda thought “a sandwich press is a sandwich press, but sure, lets give it a shot.” First thing out of the way, the only disappointment with the whole thing, it comes packed with polystyrene… Read more
packaging and in a plastic bag. I really wish manufacturers would discontinue this and use cardboard where packing is required. It’s easier to recycle and better for the environment.
Anyhoo. The build quality of this machine is amazing. It everything about it feels sturdy, even the plastics. The machine feels heavy, but not unnecessarily so.
Small feature that I thought was well thought out is that the machine can be stood on its side. Yes, some other sandwich makers and snack makers also do this, but this one is actually sturdy.
The killer feature of this machine that won me is the hinge mechanism. Every other sandwich press I have used either has a mechanism with fixed settings, or just sit (aka crush) on top of the bread.
This mechanism is completely customisable. You lower the press to exactly where you want it, press the lever and it stays exactly there. I have toasted hot cross buns which have come out still fluffy, and been able to make amazing melts by lowering the press to just above the cheese. Amazing.
Talking of the melts, when making the first one, I lowered the press a little too much and it made contact with the cheese. I thought this would have been a nightmare to clean up, but a piece of paper towel with a little water, and this wiped off. The non-stick on this is amazing.
Only wish is for a on/off button to be on the machine. Yes, I know, most sandwich presses and snack makers don’t have them, but my previous sandwich press did and it came in quite handy.
While I was gifted this by Product Review in return for an honest review, I would have no issues purchasing it. I have paid $130 for a sandwich press before, and this Sunbeam knocks it out of the park (kinda feel like I wasted my money on it after using this Sunbeam).
Purchase it. Seriously, you won’t regret it.
This has become my go to for kids (and my) lunch – We have the two slice sandwich press and it is perfect. I got this initially to make ham, cheese and tomato toasties for the kids on the weekend. I now use it most days. I work from home and now most days I make myself a Bergen toasty. Why I love it: - It heats up so fast that it is amazing - cook time is really quick without - The heat is… Read more
perfectly consistent. I get perfect grill marks across my toasties and it is toasted perfectly - My kids love the finished product every time (so do I) - The top plate adjusts so that it is not angled so you get a perfectly toasted sandwich every time
What's not to love: - Nothing - I should have purchased the 4 slice press :)
On a final mote for the cost and the quality of outcomes it is a no brainer. Buy one - just consider the size you want.

Well-designed product, though bigger may be better – This product is the perfect size for 1 or 2 people, especially for those living in a small apartment with minimal bench and storage space. It heats up quickly and can be used to cook a huge range of things. We love the innovative lever allowing fully adjustable grill height. It means you are no longer limited to only three or four different… Read more
heights as you would be with similar appliances, instead you can lock the height at virtually any level (within a few millimeters). This is a much better system than I’ve had on previous grills. No more squashed cheese toasties! Unless you choose to make them that way..
For a family or those wanting to do a big cook up I’d suggest getting one of the next sizes up (4 or 6 slice). In hindsight I probably would have used a larger model more frequently as it would be perfect for cooking my work lunches (sweet potato and zucchini fritters), but due to the compact size of the 2-slice grill it would take too long to cook so many. So if you can afford to, I would suggest that in this case buying bigger is better.
We really like the design of the flat base plate with grill top, it’s the best of both worlds! We love using it for soft foods like halloumi and hashbrowns, as the grill sears them on top, while holding them firm on the bottom. (If any Sunbeam designers ever happen to read this, the only thing I can think of that could improve this design would be if the plates were removable and interchangeable. As having dishwasher cleanup and the option to switch between the grill on top or bottom would make the already great design even more versatile. eg. cook eggs on the flat surface, or cook capsicum or sausages on the grilled surface so the juices fall away.)
Packing away is easy. The non-stick surfaces on the top grill and bottom plate are extremely easy to wipe down. Then lock the grill closed, wrap the cord around the cord-holder on the base, and pop it into a drawer or cupboard either flat or vertical as it’s clearly been designed for easy storage.
Everything is better toasted – I missed the jaffle maker of my childhood so I splashed out and got this sandwich press and it's been great for making use of leftovers, hangover breakfasts, and generally pimping of my sandwiches. Easy to use and clean. Show details
Sandwich press of my dreams – This sandwich press has been the greatest addition to my working from home setup. It heats up super quickly, is easy to clean and doesn’t take up to much space in my small kitchen (due to its ability to be stood up vertically). The press itself is adjustable which is awesome as you can use it for all manner of things - not just sandwiches. I’ve used it to cook bacon, reheat other meat and to grill halloumi. Truly a great purchase! Show details
More than a Sandwich Press – As the title of my review states - this isn’t your average run of the mill sandwich press. It can be used throughout the day for more than just the humble toastie. vegetables as well as toast to perfection hot cross buns.
The adjustable handle is perfect as there is no more squashed sandwiches and my hot cross buns have stayed perfectly fluffy.
Clean up is a breeze thanks to the non stick element, a simple wipe with a cloth and clean up is done. It also packs away perfectly thanks to the stand up storage option. Great for those short on kitchen storage.
Highly recommend!
Don’t think, just buy! – This sandwich press is THE BEST addition to/appliance in my kitchen. No joke. it instead of a pan to cook and reheat meals. I’ve cooked kale and pancakes, grill zucchini, grilled halloumi, refried beans and even an egg on it.
It gets hot fast which is another plus. I now question if I need to turn on the electric stove in my rental or just use this sandwich press.
I will admit I was at first unsure about the ribbed top but am totally converted with everything I cook on it. Oh and it’s been super easy to clean.
Highly recommend!
Best ever – Amazing sandwich press, so easy to use and very easy to clean. A family favorite. Stores very easily away and not bulky like other ones. It’s always cooked evenly over whole space Show details
Easy and Quick. Great for fast toasties and snacks – I was excited to review the Sunbeam Cafe Style 2 Slice Sandwich Maker. I had owned a George Foreman Grill which was too big for my needs and I had given it away at my last move. The first thing I made was toasted sandwiches. The Sunbeam Sandwich Maker heated up really quickly. I keep my bread in the freezer so I actually defrosted the bread by… Read more · 1
putting the bread in by itself first. This was a neat trick and the bread defrosted very quickly. After the bread was fully defrosted, I then topped it with cheese, tomato and salami and toasted it. The sandwich was not squished and it had grill marks on the top which looked good. Although the outside of the sandwich was hot and fully toasted, the cheese inside did not melt as I expected. I wonder if I should have left it in longer?
Next I fried an egg. The Sunbeam Sandwich Maker fried the egg perfectly. The whites of the egg cooked all the way through and the yolk was still runny.
I tried grilled cheese open sandwiches - treating the Sunbeam Sandwich Maker like a grill. This is where the Sunbeam Sandwich Maker performed really well. I used the height control to hover just above the cheese and it melted perfectly and evenly.
One thing I love is that the Sunbeam Sandwich Maker is really easy to clean. I didn’t need any oil or butter, so the non-stick coating just needs a quick wipe when it cools down. The other plus is that you can wind up the power cord underneath and tip the unit in an upright position to store it.
Overall, I would use this more than my old George Foreman Grill. It is much easier to clean and store and the size is better for a couple. I doubt it could cook steaks etc, but I don’t need that function. I would recommend it for a single or couple that likes grilled sandwiches, eggs, bacon, cheese toasties etc.
17 June 2025 Edit: I just wanted to edit that I still use this often to make bacon, eggs etc without messing up a pan. It is quick and simple and works flawlessly.
So easy to use for many meals! – I use the sandwich press for so many things I am glad I got it! You can basically cook anything from sandwich to falafels, eggs, etc. Definitely making my life easier! Show details
Great addition to the kitchen – Sandwich press has compact design and heats up fast making lunchtime meal prep quick. The lever lock is very handy to stop sandwiches from being squashed and for grilling purposes. Appliance is easy to clean once it has cooled down. Show details

Looks good, works even better – Sandwich makers have been a part of my life for well.. almost all of my 56 years. Starting from the Jaffle maker on the fire, to the early electric versions that cut everything in half.. to flat versions. Issues I had in the past with flat ones were that the top part is heavy and squashes (often unevenly) the sandwich you are trying to toast, and… Read more
thus pushes everything out to get burnt.
AND THEN... I received this Sunbeam to test. The two slice is almost as big as the Coles variety 4 slice, so it will take quite a bit. It has some very high quality Teflon non stick that is quite resilient to scratches (I always test this). It is very fast to heat up but does not get too hot. But the big winner is the lock handle on the back right. When you close the lid on your sandwich(s). you rest the lid on top, straighten it up and then move the locking handle and that is where it stays. No more squashed sandwiches. Like all sandwich presses, you can cook all sorts of things on it. Eggs (use a plastic egg ring), bacon, burgers, and even chicken. Its not for steak.. for that I have another press that is really way too heavy for sandwiches.
So in summary, this is the best sandwich maker I have owned. It does the toasties perfectly every time without squashing or burning them. It heats the food perfectly no matter the filling. The non stick coating is expensive and wont stick like the cheap types do. And after you finish, close it, lock it, and stand it up on its back legs to keep it out of the way and free up your bench. Is it worth the money? Yes absolutely. Whilst I did get this free to review, I would have no hesitation in buying one or recommending anyone else buy one. If you read my other reviews, you will discover I do not write positive reviews in exchange for free stuff. If I get it free to test, and I don't like it.. that is why my review says. So trust me.. this product is one of the good ones ! This is a draft review. I will upload pictures in a few days to demonstrate what I talked about.

Efficient Toasted Sandwich maker – We were given it to use and review as part of the Product Review Ambassador program. We have used it as much as possible and are giving it an honest appraisal. baked toasted sandwiches . The lever that keeps the press closed is an excellent feature. Have used it to perfectly cook two pieces of steak together with sliced onion. Hamburger patties cooked equally well A very useful and quick low fat cooking option. It maintained it's temperature very well.
The bad news. It can only be switched off at the plug. The rim of the outside of the unit gets very hot. The top does heat up over time and could burn a child or an unaware adult if left on for 20 mins. The non stick coating was not as non stick as on some pans. It needed careful cleaning with a damp cloth so as not to damage the coating. We suspect it will get better with use.
In summary: A useful press for quickly making delicious toasties and other meals. eg Steak, onions, pancakes, chicken breasts etc. only limited by one's imagination. It is certainly a step up from our 15 year old press, which is now being retired.
Handy little sandwich press! – I was sent this product to trial as part of the Product Review Ambassador program. I'm not paid for this, and my review is not approved or edited by anyone, but I do get to keep the machine, so please keep this in mind when evaluating this. I've had a few sandwich presses over the years, and honestly, it's one small detail in this that sets it… Read more
apart. I love that it can be stored standing up, so that it is vertical rather than horizontal. Every other sandwich press that I've had has to be stored flat, and you just end up stacking stuff on top of it, which means you don't use it as much. But, this vertical storage is great, because we're often short on space.
I also like the little lever, which allows you to set the height of the top part at a range of different heights.
The top surface is not flat, which allows for nice patterns on your sandwiches - something that I've used to keep my picky kids interested in trying them - just turn the sandwich every so often.
It heats up quickly and is ready to go in a short space of time, so you're not waiting forever. Typically, fast heating and non-stick surfaces don't work well together. I've only had it for a little while, so I don't know how long the non-stick surface will last, but so far it works really well. I don't even have to brush it to get the breadcrumbs off it, or melted cheese - it just slides right off.
It does come in other sizes - 4 or 6 slice. 2 slices is pretty small, but I like that, because it's easy to store. I made half a dozen toasted sandwiches when my wife's parents dropped in unexpectedly, and it really was no hassle in terms of doing them two at a time. It gets hot, so they were done quickly.
One little tricky I've learned is that, when you close the lid on a sandwich, if you have the two slices aligned, it can push the top one forward, so that it no longer lines up and some of the ingredients can fall out, or it's easier for melted cheese to spill over. So, just set the top slice back a bit (towards the lid), so that when it pushes it forward, it's then aligned with the bottom bit. A little trial and error here and you'll be fine.
The sandwiches come out pretty much just like any other sandwich press I've used, but there seems to be something a little different about them. Better, I think. I haven't quite put my finger on it, and the difference is subtle, but I like it.
The product images also show things like cooking chicken or bacon or tomato or even eggs in this thing. I've never really thought of doing this in a previous sandwich press, but with the grills on the top side, it could potentially work. I guess the non-stick surface would make it easy to clean, too. Hmmm, maybe I'll give it a go this weekend.
In summary - absolutely no hesitations about this product, and actually some really good little features that I wasn't expecting. The vertical storage is a favourite. I don't know if that's unique to this sandwich press, but it's important for me.
Versatile, well-made Sandwich Press – Sunbeam Cafe Style – 2 Slice Sandwich Maker GRM2000SS I have been given this machine to review by ProductReview.com.au – I am not paid for the review, but do receive the machine afterwards. Neither Sunbeam, nor Product Review have had any input into this review. At time of review February 2022, the GRM2000SS unit was retailing online for $69 at… Read more
Harvey Norman and $69.95 at Betta Home Living.
On pricing, I wish retailers would stop treating people like fools, manipulating buyers – with pricing tricks? Everyone knows that $69 – worse still $69.95 is essentially $70. In my opinion, retailers should adopt honest pricing models – Kmart is a great example of honest pricing.
Now to the review.
The GRM2000SS is finished with a blended stainless steel panel, on a black plastic top, with what appears to be chrome-plated, die cast arms. The rest of the unit is black, so will blend easily with modern kitchens.
The body has two rear slightly extended legs, with two button style front legs. It is quite stable, though if you push down hard on the arms to close it apply any firm pressure to your cooking, the unit can tip forward. Thankfully it features a lever on the right hand side, that Sunbeam call “Any Height control”™ this can be used at any height, to lock down onto the top, of whatever you are cooking. This should, make pushing down hard on the food, unnecessary and safer.
Both plates are heated, a total of 1800 watts and Sunbeam claim 2 minute heat up time, I tested this myself, on a day where the room temperature was around 18C, heat up and the green Ready light – exactly 2 minutes. They claim that after heat up, a steak can be cooked in 3 minutes (depending on thickness), I have not tested this claim, but it seems reasonable since both sides will cook at once.
The bottom plate is edged with a raised lip, so if you do cook steaks, ham or bacon the fat will not run out of that section, the bottom plate will retain the fat for easier cleaning. Clean-up is easy because of the non-stick surface; I only needed to wipe it with paper towel, while still warm.
Further on the subject of cleaning, this past weekend I had the opportunity to use a Tefal Waffle Maker and was impressed that both the upper and lower plates on that unit were easily removed by clicking a button on each plate – a very handy feature, on that unit.
My cooking test:
• Toasted cheese and bacon sandwich • Bacon and 2 eggs • 2 x Pork Loin chops
To sum up, the Sunbeam Cafe Style – 2 Slice Sandwich Maker GRM2000SS is a well priced, quality Sandwich Maker that is fast and extremely suitable for Jaffles, but combined with the height adjustable “Any Height control”™ flexible enough for so much more than just toasted sandwiches.
I was given one, as a result of this review – now the question is would I buy one? Yes, definitely.
The lever is something else – Couldn’t be happier with my new press maker - but the lever is something else! My sandwiches were never so crispy and soft at the same time! Just loved it. Highly recommended!! Show details
Sunbeam have come a LONG WAY since their first Sandwich Maker – I have been able to test the Sunbeam Café Style 2 Slice Sandwich Maker Grill and Press now for nearly 2 weeks. protected with the packaging. I would like to point out that I will be much happier when manufacturers stop using polystyrene for part of their packaging. It cannot be recycled. It must be put out to landfill and this is not ideal for our planet. It seems like a simple fix to me - and some manufacturers have already done this!! I was impressed with the build quality of this sandwich maker. Looks great on the bench and doesn't take up very much room at all. I am also impressed with Sunbeams NEW Any Height Control Lever. Works well - It really does take any size sandwich within reason and it is a vast improvement on other locking mechanisms used with these appliances in the past. Another positive for me was when I first started it up ....... In the past, with other appliances that I have had, there has been a "Burning In Process". The room gets filled with smoke whilst the cooking surfaces cure. Not the case with this new Sunbeam. I was amazed at how quickly it heated up - without the excess smoke - and was ready to use within a couple of minutes. This is real progress ....... I tried this appliance several times with toasted sandwiches; wraps and bacon and eggs - and ALL turned out ready to consume and tasty. I really like that the top cooking surface is ribbed - the sandwiches come out just like you get in a cafe or food court - quite professional looking. 24 months replacement warranty is not what you usually get with appliances like this so well done Sunbeam backing your product with such a great warranty. It really does have the capability of being both a Grill and a Press all in one - although I use it more for the Press - personal choice. A negative, as with most stainless steel products, is when the appliance is closed it very easily picks up fingerprints. Yes, you can simply wipe them off, but I wish someone could discover a way to stop this from happening for good!! Stand up storage will be useful for some but as I place mine in a drawer, not a big selling point for me. Well done Sunbeam. Lots of improvements with some progress still to make. Overall - I am more than happy and was even happier to be able to discard my previous sandwich maker that just couldn't measure up to this one.
So versatile! – Love this sandwich press. We use it for almost every meal of the day is it cooks so well and is so easy to clean. The Any-height lever makes it so easy to cook what i want on it. Sunbeam cafe series 2 slice sandwich maker grill and press – Just upgraded my old sunbeam sandwich press, great but such a pain to clean. Now the new Cafe series offers a well made and thought out design.l press. The way it can now store upright on its own, is a space saver, no need to always lay flat. need to lock the lid at any height? It's so you don't need to have a squashed toastie lol. You can cook your sandwich no matter how high, and it won't be a squashed hot mess lol. The best improvement for me however, is the top lid has widened ribs, the ribs serve to put the grill lines. The Cafe series has much wider ribs, making it much easier to wipe clean, such a pain trying to clean that feature on older models. Also the bottom grill/plate has the lip rising up from edges that are rounded internal corners, now that makes cleaning and wiping out of bottom part, so so so much easier. As opposed to the models with sharp recessed corners that can't be easily reached. I also cook all of my steak straight from freezer into the press, cooks perfectly and within 10 minutes. Hassle free way to cook your steaks, trust me lol. Nice looking modern design, easy to clean, what's not to love really.

A huge improvement from the previous! – We were offered an opportunity to test this product & were hesitant, having recently bought another brand last December after extensive research. I looked late last year & two requirements needed were 1. The ability to set different heights (so it didn’t squash the toasties). 2 One that could be stored vertically (takes less cupboard space). the time pretty much only one had these abilities so we bought that. That one is fine but it’s slightly larger & heavier. It also has only a few pre-set locking positions. It doesn’t have the upper grill plate though.
As the Sunbeam has now included several updates including these two so we were happy to test it. It is in fact somewhat better! The locking feature is far better in that it can be locked in any position from closed to fully open. The upper plate swivels so it’s always parallel to the lower one. The vertical storing is great.
One minor thing is that the upper plate has the slotted grill & I’m in two minds about that (our other one had a flat upper plate). It’s fine but makes cleaning just a little bit more difficult. There again the grill marks look great!
One other little point is there is no anchor slot for the wound cord, a small omission as a u-shaped clip would make it easier to hold the cord/plug in place for storing.
As for usage it’s fantastic, it heats quickly, cooks evenly & clearly indicates on & heated! Had this one been available we would have definitely bought this. It’s compact, locks & is easy to clean & store.
We have to date cooked toasties, steak, tomatoes & sausages & they all cooked really well & evenly. The grill marking does give a nice look! We are keen to try cooking other things.
A really great product & the best available at this time. Highly recommended.
No more lop sided toaties!! – I brought my machine just over two weeks ago and it has become my new best friend! My personal fave feature is the plate lock for making epic sandwiches that don't get squished on one side. I have also been making quick zucchini fritters that look extra spesh with the grill lines on top! Show details
