Disappointing – Oh how the mighty have fallen. I just purchased this mixmaster after my previous excellent, reliable, sturdy Sunbeam mixmaster packed it in after 10 years. What has happened to Sunbeam? How can this cheap, tinny product have made it through their quality control? I tried to mix a basic cake batter which has been made with my old mixmaster… Read more
countless times - the new machine was shaking and struggling to cope and then a burnt smell escaped - what an absolute failure of a mixer. It will be returned.
Faulty machines – Last year bought a Sunbeam Mixmaster Combo Mixer Pro. Came home and plugged it in but it wouldn't work. The shop was out of stock and couldn't replace it. Several months later I purchased another one. Used it probably 6 times. Went to bake today and this one won't turn on. Checked power point etc. Very disappointing as I have had a hand held Sunbeam Mixer for years without any issues. Show details

Nice little unit but didn't last long – I was given this as a Christmas gift 3 years ago and only used it about 6 times a year to make cakes, whip cream and make pavlova. It is nice and compact, has simple to use features and works well with small and medium size items, not good for large fruit cakes. I have had various sunbeam hand mixers over time. One blew its motor after 3 uses.… Read more
Second one broke the clamp that holds the mixing blades and so I had to glue them in permanently. I was using this latest one to blend liquid honey, which is very stiff, using low speed. It worked for maybe two minutes and then without warning just stopped, no heat, no smoke just stopped. As far as I can tell after taking it apart, it has burnt out the stator windings deep inside the coil and is not repairable. I note that it is well enough assembled but cheaply built, with nylon gears and bush bearings. I never liked the speed control as it would not go slow enough for dough making. The grease in the gearbox was very dry after 3 years and some flour spread around, and it has very cheap bush bearings. These could go for many years if occasionally cleaned out and re-lubricated, but it takes some skill to get it apart. Do not use this mixer where you need slow movement, high torque. Apart from the motor not liking it, the nylon gears will strip.

Simple and good – really good! – For those with fairly modest needs in an electric kitchen mixer, this device is a winner. Amongst the least expensive stand mixers (removable for hand-held operation) on the Australian market, the Sunbeam Mixmaster Combo Mixer Pro is punching well above its weight, performing better than any of the modestly priced mixers we’ve owned over the… Read more · 3

We’re “old school” and my wife does most of the cooking for our family, so after six months’ usage she says the goodness with her Sunbeam Mixmaster starts with its uncommonly generous, stainless steel mixing bowl: it’s twice the size of the other-branded mixer this unit replaces and significantly larger than any of the budget-priced mixers we’ve owned previously. Incidentally, we love Sunbeam products as we have a still-working Sunbeam toaster from the Sixties. But my wife says the big bowl on this mixer can comfortably take all the ingredients she needs to make her large batches of cake mixture, a function that was problematic with all our previous, budget-priced mixers, with which she had to mix two separate bowls in order to make the quantities of mixture she required. Mixing capacity is therefore an obvious and important, yet seemingly neglected specification when choosing a kitchen mixer: a criterion that is amply addressed on this mixer and for which one typically has to pay many times this unit’s asking price to attain. We’re not averse to high-end mixers but our basic needs don’t extend to the point where we can justify the expense for features we don’t need or want.
This device has the flexibility to either work as a stand mixer, with the machine held securely in place atop its base stand, or the mixer can easily be removed from its stand and operated in a hand-held fashion and returned to its stand with a simple and reassuring ‘click' locking it in place. The entire assembly is quite compact, given its large bowl, and stores away quite easily. The mixer has six, user-selectable speed settings, which is handy particularly when working recipes that require finesse in not being over-mixed. Conversely, this mixer also has a “turbo” function for short bursts of high-speed operation.
The Sunbeam Mixmaster Combo Mixer Pro comes with two pairs of beaters, of different types. One set has thicker blades for general beating, and the other sports thin, wiry whisks for whipping cream for example, or whisking egg whites to meringue consistency. These thin beaters have enabled my wife to create homemade, fluffy ice cream – which is a first for us – and the results are quite extraordinary; equivalent to quality, store-bought ice cream that we gleefully scoop into waffle cones for a special treat.
The 1.5 metre (5 foot) power cord on this unit is of a good length, allowing some flexibility in positioning the mixer stand around kitchen counter-tops, and for considerable freedom of movement when working in hand-held mode. The bowl is easy to clean and is dishwasher safe. The only negative my wife has found with this mixer is that there isn’t a simple release button to remove the beaters; one must exert considerable force to pull them out, which is both awkward and uncomfortable for her, but for under a hundred Aussiebucks at Good Guys, some minor exertion for beater removal is a minimal inconvenience.
In her own words “The Sunbeam Mixmaster [Combo Mixer Pro] is a great product for home cooks who want a simple, but effective mixer for a fraction of the price of other mixers on the market.” What can I add to that except to say that watching my wife’s enjoyment of this wonderful device makes me happy and so I offer my hearty endorsement along with hers.

A Big Sunbeam Smile from me :) – This smart small appliance seems to have a big heart. It was no sooner unpacked than my grandson and I put it to work to make cookies. The final cookie mix was very thick and this device although initially looking a little flimsy compared to the mixers of bygone days (it's proven not to be flimsy at all), handled mixing the ingredients from the… Read more · 2
butter/sugar mix all the way through to the stiff cookie dough with ease. I decided to change from balloon whisks to the dough hooks when adding the flour (right decision) made it simple to get the mix off as well and the super big metal mixing bowl meant that contents stay in the bowl. The turbo function although not really required made light work even at lower speeds as the butter wasn't really soft enough despite having been out of the fridge an hour as it was a cold day, it was hard. Long ago, my mother owned a heavy old Sunbeam mix master which was always reliable. I thought I'd check out what they're like today and was pleasantly surprised by the lighter weight and greater flexibility of the product today. The tilt button allows for tilting in a backward motion, whilst the swivel control allows the mixer heads to move into different locations to ensure even mixing. I was fascinated by just how much power this small lightweight and flexible product has compared to my hand mixer (which I think I'll throw out now) this detaches easily by clipping on and off from the stand. I know it's early days but thus far I'm super impressed and it comes with a hard copy user guide, recipes and twelve month warranty, wonderful value at this price :)

A Great lightweight mixer – I love that this mixer is not to heavy to get in and out of cupboards. It is very easy to remove the bowls and also the beaters. The noise of the motor is not as loud as my old hand mixer and I love the turbo button. I found that the beaters were able to move well in the bowl to mix butter and sugar for a cake . It was also good and easy to… Read more
change from fixed bowl to hand mixer for quick whipping of cream . The light stainless steel bowl is a real access for cleaning also. Attachments of beater, whisk and dough hooks was a good surprise . I love the whisk for eggs when I make an omelette or whisk egg whites . I like that the bowl has nice high sides and is big enough for most jobs . It is good that the bowl can be locked into the turntable and when the mixer is in the stand it is also locked in position. I was impressed with this mixer and would recommend this to friends and family. I really prefer this mixer over the heavy weighted ones and the price is a real bonus. I could not find any faults with this mixer at all.
This is perfect! – The stand is so incredibly handy and light, very easy for my arthritic hands to pack away when not in use. Its easy to manoeuvre the bowl on and off the stand, you can have the beaters in a fixed position or have them moving freely around the bowl, as well as tilt the mixer back just like a normal stand mixer. The hand mixer attaches firmly to… Read more
the stand and can be easily detached with the press of a button. Super easy to change the beaters - just pop them on and off or you can press the speed button down to pop them off too. The handheld mixer is really comfortable to work with and well balanced, the hand feel is alot better than my old hand mixer. The motor isnt too noisy and was able to easily handle mixing egg whites for the highest, fluffiest pavlova that I have ever made; silky smooth fudge; and insanely fluffy cakes. It did struggle a bit when mixing dough but then I realized that I just needed to increase the speed a little - problem solved! Plus the turbo button works a treat and unlike my old mixer, I didn't accidentally press it all the time. I'm thoroughly impressed and highly recommend this product (I've been raving about it to my friends and work colleagues) especially if you want a stand mixer but not the weight or price tag that comes with other models/brands.

Perfect mixer - use hand held or with stand & turntable – This mixer is a gem! I love that I can use it as a handheld mixer, which is perfect for mixing up icing and cream, or for something which requires more mixing place it in the stand and feel confident it is doing a great job evenly mixing all ingredients while doing other things. Things I really like: * the bowl can be locked into the turntable *… Read more · 1
when the mixer is in the stand, it is securely locked into position * when in the stand, the position of the mixer in the bowl can be fixed or able to move side to side * attachments include beater, whisk and dough hooks * mixing bowl has high sides and a good size * the mixer motor is powerful and stays cool * when using handheld, the end of the mixer is flat so it will sit on the bench top with the beater over the top of the bowel and won't fall over......there is nothing worse than using a handheld mixer and wanting to stop to scrap the bowl and with no hands available having mixture drip all over the bench!!!! * when finished beating, press the eject button without a need to touch the attachments, keeping fingers clean! The mixer is comfortable to handle and not to heavy. When making a pound cake the bowl was half full of flour plus other ingredients but the mixer had no issues mixing to a smooth batter, in a short period of time. I used the stand and while the turntable isn't motorised, the mixer had no problems continually rotating the bowl on the turntable ensuring all ingredients were well mixed. Magic!
Things which I didn't really like: * Noise, well it is definitely not quiet but it gets the job quickly so I didn't mind too much. Definitely wouldn't be able to mix and hear the TV or music at the same time though! * The knob which moves to change speed did not always line up with the indicator markings. I'd have to turn off and then move the speed knob and using sense of touch count how many clicks the knob moved through.
I have 2 tips. 1) I am not sure the manual is correct in saying that the beaters are identical and can go in either hole, my experience is they are more like the whisk in that each beater has a specific hole to go in. 2) Try the recipes, I have made the chocolate mouse, a pound cake and icing and it handled all 3 with ease and the recipes tasted great! Definitely consider buying this mixer!
