This model must be faulty ! Stand blowy smoke and black ash! – This model must be fault ! I’ve only used hand full of time - and from the second time it’s been blowing smoke from the stand and smell of rubber. Black ash has been coming from the stand. I’m too scared to use it now. Show details
extremely durable, – This mixer is still going after 18 years of home cake making, very versatile and durable and can handle most recipe mixes, although i bought a new mixer recently as wife wanted an upgrade, i have cleaned the old sunbeam and serviced it as it had a screw rattling around in the casing and it was full of cocoa and flour from over the years, tightened… Read more · 2
everything up and blew out with air compressor and added a touch of teflon spray to gears, its quiet and runs great so will donate to daughter inlaw, pity the wife only just realised its also a hand mixer too after all those years :-(
Not Happy – I have had this beater for approx. 3 years and only used a handful of times. Today I was mixing egg whites when I smelt smoke. The bloody mixer stand had caught fire. Luckily I was standing right there and quickly turned off at the power point. When I inspected the stand all black ash fell from it. I was very shaken and upset. Show details
Extra kitchen aide ! – I mainly use this for mixing/ beating the meringue mixer, have had this for 3 years now and it's good. Instructions are simple to understand, easy to use and clean. However about a year ago I saw a spark and the base that would rotate no longer rotates the bowl so have to do this manually, also the bowls are not microwave safe, I used it , my… Read more
mistake, in the microwave and some plastic bits on base melted !
Once this has " died" I would like to upgrade. Easy to use. Heavy, as with many things it's made in China.
Excellent – I found this the perfect little mixer for me. Was looking for a handmixer to take the strain of my hands as I am not young and a bit arthritic. Ended up buying this one as the mixer is detachable. I think it is perfect for the average home user who wants to whip mixes and bakes cakes and biscuits. I guess if you are a very serious cook you… Read more
would buy something larger and more powerful. The Sunbeam MX5900 mixes and blends beautifully, is very stable and the large 3 L nylon/plastic bowl is a dream to use. It holds enough for two large cake mixes and is easy to empty with nothing sticking to it (nothing to lick). I paid $99 at Harvey Norman with a 12 month replacement guarantee. It does not take up much storage. All in all, good value for the price and very useful. I don't expect it to last forever but will probably see me out. Compact, Lightweight, Easy to use Nothing as long as you keep to its limitations
Not Happy – I purchased this mixer with it stand as for the last 12-15 years I have only had a hand held mixer and found it very time consuming when beating egg whites for pavlovas/meringues. As I was shortly due to retire and intended doing more cooking I decided to purchase this Sunbeam mixer. The first time I used it I was not happy as the bowl is… Read more
far to big to cream 125g butter, the beaters just skim over the top so I had to take it off its stand and use as a hand beater.
It works OK if you are using a packet mix as there is enough mixture in the bowl, but it still needs scraping down constantly.
Tried making a 2 egg batch of meringues (no go).
Then yesterday I was to make a 4 egg(large size) pavlova for a barbeque, it wouldn't beat those either had to take it off its stand again until they had foamed up more, it was the OK except for having to scrape the sides the whole time. Sorry have none Bowl too big for small amounts. Very noisy. The bowl turning feature is no more than a gimmick and is of no benefit whatsoever.
Good – I have had this product for over five years now (i think? it's been that long I can't even remember). I have loved using it for making cakes and the likes. Still using it! At least 2-3 times a week... Very convenient for the amateur cook and patissier. Beats standing up holding a mixer in your hand for 10+ mins. Plastic bowl is a breeze to clean.… Read more
No major problems unless you are going to make large batches. The motor is not powerful enough for big amounts of dough and the bowl is not big enough for big amounts of cake batter.
Terrible – I wanted to like this because it seemed so versatile and easy to clean. Unfortunately I could have no confidence in the product once the beaters dropped small bits of metal into the mix so early on. It's a shame the beaters are not cast in a single peice. compact, good sized bowl, can be used as a hand mixer on first use the teeth holding the beaters in fell out into the butter and sugar I was creaming.
I had the same problem....very disappointed in this machine, I have used a Sunbeam hand mixer for… Read more (+2 replies)
Excellent – I like this mix master. I'm not a huge baker so it is perfect for what I need. It does what it says it does. It looks nice and sleek. Its a breeze to clean and love how it feets so nicely in my kitchen. The bowl is great and very sturdy. I love my mix master. This is a great compact unit that fits well into my small kitchen. easy to clean… Read more
and easy to store. Good price. YOu wouldn't want to purchase this mixer if you are a great big baker. It is only designed for small batches.
Excellent – My mixer was well used over some years, with no trouble whatsoever. I do a fair amount of baking and only when making my Christmas cake did I find the bowl was too small. I probably over-worked it this last year by making bread dough in it. Although dough hooks are supplied, I would say they are more for occasional use as bread dough is just… Read more
too heavy for the mixer (even though it kneaded the dough faithfully for me at least once a week for a few months). My fault, I pushed it too hard. I would definitely buy another one and have since invested in a bread machine. The "stirring" function is good (ie. the bowl turns, but the beaters stay still); compact design; nice range of speeds when combining boost button with speeds 1-5 and using the "bowl turning" speed control.
Terrible – Looks ok, good options for speeds, etc, but did not work for very long. I probably only used it about 10 (or maybe less) times befor it failed. I would not buy this product again. compact hardly used mixer, approx 2year old and cogs/motor failed.
Bad – its an easy to use day-to-day MixMaster for the general user, it has a nice simpe design and is very capable of doing what ever you through at it. is Ergonomic , easy to use, easy to clean. fine for general domestic usage, beating eggs, whites, cake batter, also can be used as a hand held electric beater. its stand features a motorised stage… Read more
tosit the bowl on to help it more efficiently beat. Plastic gearing, making it less suitable to be used to beat dough though dough hooks are supplied. it does get a bit noisy at its higher speeds and its highest speed of the combination 'hi' (there is a Lo setting too) at speed 10 is the equivalent of just engaging 'boost'-merely a shortcut to top speed.
Also its format layout is best suited to Right hand people not left handed. its bowl is also plastic, not really the best for keeping clean and hygenic for this type of activity, aluminium would be better.
