DO NOT BUY. Needs total redesign – Purchased this product without doing research. Very bad rice cooker, due to the following: - Doesn't cook rice well (it’s main objective). Although I have followed ALL instructions regarding quantities etc. there is ALWAYS a crusty rice layer on the bottom that can’t be eaten. It appears like the the heat is too high at the bottom / incorrect… Read more

temperature calibration. - Teflon coating is flimsy and started to flake off immediately. - Bad design 1. VERY hard to clean, as the design is there are heaps of nooks and crannies where gunk builds up after each use. - Bad design 2. Must use two hands to remove rice (one to hold the rice cooker), as the feet at the bottom of the cooker slip over the bench and move easily. - Bad design 3. Lid is hinged and only opens one way so if you have it askew due go the top mounted steam vent you are constantly turning the unit to open the lid. Also following on from Bad design 1 above, the lid opens onto deep grooves therefore if any rice falls during removal the rice gets caught in these grooves and is impossibly to clean. - Bad design 4. There is a condensation reservoir on the side which has a loose fitting clear cover and is constantly leaking. A nightmare to clean. I could go on. My previous rice cooker was 100 times better. Sunbeam, this rice cooker needs to go back to the drawing board. This product is absolute shiitake.

Teflon coating terrible quality – We’ll I finally replaced my existing Sunbeam rice cooker with this one a few years ago because my old one, after 20 years use, had started loosing the Teflon coating. To say how horribly disappointed I was by the new one is an understatement! The Teflon coating started coming off after just 3 uses!!! What has happened to your quality Sunbeam???

A rice cooker that does what you want – Purchased rice cooker mainly for fermenting black garlic. Have used it for 2 batches (60 days) continually and tried it with cryovac garlic and now using garlic wrapped in paper towel. Took a little while to work out how to set "keep warm" function, so you need to push down switch to cook and once cooker has reached temperature it quickly sets to… Read more ·  1

"keep warm". The cooker has been doing a great job, consistent temperature as I checked with thermometer, but the real bonus is the "keep warm" function doesn't automatically turn off like some other models which saves having to continually check and set. The unit is also easy to clean

Simple and easy to use; Rice cooked just the way I like it – Had to replace a well used rice cooker that still worked but needed to update to a better designed model. Have used it several times and the rice is cooked the way I like; no need for salt or oil being added to have tasty rice . Attractive design and easy to keep clean. Show details ·  1

When it cooks brown rice well, you know you have a winner – I went through numerous cheap rice cookers (a few of them blowing up) and finally decided to spend just that little more and I'm glad I did. I found the Sunbeam Rice Cooker RC5600 at Target and can honestly say it has been the best so far. While I say "it cooks brown rice well", I did find a bit was a little overcooked on the bottom but I don't… Read more ·  1

think you can help that especially if you let it sit there on the keep warm feature. I highly recommend this product for it's ease of use, modern look, good size tub and overall quality. I have not used the steamer option but that seems to be very straight forward and simple too.

Love it – Bought this recently from target, to replace our very old kmart one. It cooks the rice perfectly and doesn't make a mess like the old one did, no having to clean up starchy water from everywhere after using it! I'm really enjoying the steamer attachment, always steam some veggies in here, love that i don't need to make more than the one lot of dishes!  Show details

Soggy Rice – This is my third Sunbeam rice cooker, I replaced my last one because after about 5 years of consistent use the non stick started sticking, but still made perfect rice every time. With the new one, (same model as before) after about a month, it started to produce "soggy, sticky" rice every time I use it, irrespective of the type of rice I use.… Read more

Fried rice is one of our favorite dishes but I cannot get the grains to separate and the result is always "Gluggy". It can't be the way I use the cooker, because I've been doing it the same way for years. Is this cooker faulty in some way?

Better off with a saucepan – I so resisted getting a rice cooker as I couldn't see the advantage over a pot of water. How hard is it? I got this Sunbeam unit and what a waste of money. Firstly, it's nothing less than lying to call it a 7 cup as the cups are tiny and equate to 4.5 internationally recognised standard cup measures. Then the first lot of brown rice burnt on the… Read more

bottom as the 'warm' function seems too hot and relies on you to turn the cooker off immediately it was cooked. See pot of water comment above. I had to put a lot more water in than suggested anyway the cooker (obviously) turns to warm when the water evaporates and sits there burning uncooked rice. I thought it was just me when the unit witched to warm after a few minutes this evening but I see some comments about that here as well. Great. I did cook some beans successfully but had to keep an eye on the cooker and turn it off as soon as they were done. Oh and the steamer feature instructions are useless unless you like revolting overcooked vegetables. I will adjust the water level but I'm not sure why I would bother I can do that with a saucepan and a timer on my phone

terrible rice cooker, stay away – bought this at target on 6/3/2020 for $48 when we got home and on first use, the rice cook button would not stay on. it kept moving to keep warm even though we literally just plugged it in seems like many other people have this problem with this particular model went back to target and got a refund straight away the cheap target rice cooker outperforms this one any day Show details

Good at first, but not long lasting – This rice cooker was good to start with - we did find some rice would be stuck to the bottom of the insert right from the beginning, but it was generally reliable. However after only two years, we need to replace the unit. The cook button doesn't stay down or pops up just after the water is heated, the condensation catcher disintegrated, and the… Read more

Disappointing – I had a Sunbeam Rice Perfect 5 cup cooker for years and it cooked beautiful rice. The teflon eventually came off so I replaced it with this because they no longer make the model I had.The rice comes out gluggy and overcooked on the bottom. compared to the old ones, which shows a focus on cost cutting. Also the steaming tray is pretty pointless unless you don't own a stove top. Will not stick with this brand in the future.

Second cooker broke after 1.5 years – Nothing but trouble with this cooker. The first one I bought from Harvey Norman didn't work - the cook button wouldn't stay down. I got a replacement which worked fine two or three times a month for the last 18 months and has now packed up (out of warranty). This time the button stays down but the light won't go on and it doesn't cook. I would expect a $40 machine to last longer given our previous one lasted 10 years.  Show details

Terrible – Rather than doing cup for cup rice and water some genius has made something complex and it makes the worst rice ever because the water rice ratio is so hard to get right . The result is soggy horrible rice every time and although this is almost brand new I am throwing it in the bin tonight. Ive had heaps of no name rice cookers that worked perfect and I thought I would try something better - not so  Show details

Rice cooker that doesn't cook rice – This product did not work from day one. When set to "cook" the appropriate light did not come on and it did not heat up. After some time the "cook" light did turn on but the appliance kept alternating between "cook" and "keep warm". After 30 minutes the water inside had not reached boiling point and was still only lukewarm. I returned this to the store the day after purchasing.  Show details

That is great! – Just brought it today in Target due to the old one is not working properly. I cooked 3 and half cup of rice and I put the pork rib on the steam tray and place on the top of rice too. All are prefect cooked at the end! Very happy on my choice!  Show details

Piece of Junk – Stay away from this rice cooker. Every time I use it I have to clean up a mess. I have only cooked 2 cups of rice in it at a time using the provided cup and followed the directions and it boils water out of the steam vent. Don't know how this rice cooker could possibly cook 7 cps of rice at a time. Waste of money.  Show details

Should have stuck with old one – Thought I'd replace the old rice cooker with a new one as the old one had the rice sticking to the bowl. Now, in the new one, the rice sticks to the bottom of the bowl and the rice is gluggy. You would think a new rice cooker would cook your rice, not make a gluggy, mushy mesh. Not Happy!  Show details

Good cooker but not long lasting – It was great cooker to start with however over the time ~6months we have noticed that rice bowl's coating started peeling . We contacted Sunbeam but have not received satisfactory response . We bought this in clearance for 25$ . It is really nice cooked except the bown peeling issue  Show details

Very Ordinary – The lid is hard to unclip when I try to open the steamer, the water catcher at the back of the steamer broke after a few uses and I have to put the steamer on a towel if I want to use it . The rice tends to stick to the bottom and burns. My previous steamer was a small basic one with a glass lid and it did a much better job and takes up less room in the cupboard.I intend to replace the Sunbeam Deluxe with another basic steamer.  Show details

No complaints – I have had the rice cooker for over 6 months now and to be honest I probably would not of purchased it had I read the bad reviews. Since purchasing we use the cooker at least 1-2 times a week and we have never had an issue with it. It cooks the rice perfectly and the bowl is still in the same condition as we bought it. We are careful and that… Read more

we only use plastic spoons to get the rice out to ensure the coating does not come off and put it straight in the dishwasher when finished - no worries.

I love the size of the cooker and how I can store everything inside it and the lid clicks in so very easy to transport around.

I would not have a hesitation buying this rice cooker again.

Bowl started to loose coating – Worked perfectly for 3-4 months but the bowl started to loose the coating. It is annoying to find the coating come up along with the Rice cooked. The cook button sometimes will not even turn on and have to unplug at wall and plug it back to make it work, even after that sometimes will halt in the middle. Thought I bought a quality product, but I would like to change my impression about this company.  Show details

Does the job – Makes the rice fluffy and nice but hard to clean the cooker. I also find it difficult that the lid isn't removable and glass. There's always excess water coming out too? Good warantee on the product too. But the rice cooker does the job and cooks the rice quick and well.  Show details

Machine breaks down – I bought the rice cooker in the end of the year last year. It was good at start, but suddenly the machine starts breaking down. The cook button won't hold long and switch to warm up button when the rice is not cooked yet. We need to hold the button to cook our rice or tape it now. :(  Show details

Bowl coating is not fit for purpose – We used this appliance 1-2 times weekly. The non-stick bowl coating is not fit for purpose. It begins to flake off after around 11-12 months of use despite careful use of wooden/plastic spoons and hand washing. Because the coating is a light grey/blue colour the flakes are not easily visible on the rice, so you are also likely to unknowingly ingest the fllakes. Dont buy it!  Show details

Worked well until teflon coating started coming off – I'm really amazed to see how many reviews below also had the same problem with the teflon coating coming off the metal bowl. Teflon coming offf – Cooks rice well. Easy to clean BUT the teflon in the bowl is coming off in huge flakes after just a few months. We've only ever used the plastic utensil provided and been very careful. It's the worst quality non stick coating I've ever seen. and judging from the reviews a systemic fault in this product. Stay away from this one – Not a good rice cooker. Leaves a crust on the bottom and you must be very careful not to mix this burnt rice into the rest when scooping out. Got it on points last week, used it 3 times and if Qantas Frequent Flyer won't take it back it's going in the bin.  Show details

Teflon coating peeling – We got this rice cooker through credit card points less that 1 year ago and the coating has been coming off which is just unacceptable. Birds reportedly die if near Teflon coating whilst cooking so when it gets in my food it's just negligence on Sunbeam's part. I vote this 0 out of 5 stars - NEVER AGAIN Sunbeam!  Show details

Adequate rice cooker with some major faults – I have had the Sunbeam rice cooker now for several years, and it works quite well to make rice, which I do a couple of time each week, normally. But the bowl lost its teflon coating early on. Small flecks of grey plastic appeared in the cooked rice. So after a while I scrubbed it all off, and now the bowl is plain metal on its base. The cooker… Read more

design works well, but I only make "3" or "4" cups of rice at a time - there are problems with it if you try to use it with more rice than that, and it burns if you over or under fill it, other than with the magic 3 or 4 cup level. It is hard to clean too, though not impossible - there is a removable inner sealing plate that needs washing, and the rest of the device needs a thorough wipe out with a sponge after each use. Gunk does tend to collect in its nooks and crannies, and the plastic cup drain at the back needs to be emptied, and is a pest to keep finding. Provided you use it in its optimum configuration, and are not too fussy about cleaning it, then it does a fairly reasonable job of cooking rice.

Disappointed! – We have had our Sunbeam 'Perfect' (a misnomer!) deluxe cooker with steamer for almost a year.
