Sunbeam Safe & Sound Fleecy

Sayonara Sunbeam – I have had two single fitted Sunbeam electric blankets and both have had faulty controllers within the first winter of use. DO NOT BUY SUNBEAM PRODUCTS. Gone are the days when Sunbeam was a top-rated brand. Their customer service is non-existent too.
Forget these, use fashy hot water bottles – We have purchased Sunbeam single-use single-side twin blankets at Costco and bed bath and beyond. Out of the 12 that we have purchased, only one has lasted more than two months. Why the stores even continue to get them to sell to consumers is beyond me.
Not good, wont buy another sunbeam queen size blanket – Just got $$ back, from Harvey Norman, was 3rd blanket in 12 months that didnt work. Had Sunbeam appliances for 50 years, not anymore.. Same problem as most of other reviews.
King Size Sunbeam Electric Blanket – I bought my first model of the above blanket last winter (for $!53.00) and 3 blankets failed on the (anatomical) right side. The control light would just blink and it would not heat up. The local Good Guys were quite patient and happy to replace them each time as they came with a 3 year warranty. I was reluctant to get another one, only to fail,… Read more
so I opted for in-store credit when the Sunbeam failed for the third time at the beginning of this winter. I was lucky that I spied a fleecy King Size Jason electric blanket in the Spotlight store next door. This was listed at $189.99. but came down to $118.99 with my Spotlight VIP card. Happy Girl :)
sigh> sick of wasting money on sunbeam – I have THREE of the lovely fleece sunbeam electric blankets with only one side working! Took last one bact to Briscoes who DO refund! Now I'm going to buy a low priced electric blanket (NOT sunbeam!)and just put the flece on to of it, bet it lasts forever!
One side of a king double blanket failed after one night's usage – We bought a Sunbeam blanket described above and have just used it once. The second time we used it one side would not switch one. The Timer Off light switches on a few seconds after it was switched on. This is pathetic service and I see so many more similar comments above! We previously had a similar Sunbeam blanket but it has a time switch so… Read more
when winter comes, it was set and forget. It has pre heat as well as a manual boost and that one is still going strong after around 9 years. I wish I could find the same model again, but after the new one just purchased and the comments above I wonder about Sunbeam! Why are so many people having issues! Surely this model should be recalled by now?
It does not work
The model is BL5371
Sunbeam fails – Sunbeam king size electric blanket 2 years old stopped working on RHS with very little use. Has begun to be intermittent on LHS with led indicator lighting on occasion. Second blanket from this company and from what I can see the problems are widespread with the controllers and possibly the element. The blanket has been on the bed since new and… Read more
never folded, yet element failed. My side of the bed is now cold...so not happy Was a reasonable price Did not last, intermittent. Also concerns about electrical safety of the blanket, probably past QC in China.

I would not purchase Sunbeam again – I am having to replace my Sunbeam Fleecy King electric blanket controller for the third time. This was an expensive product, and I am over paying over $70 for a new contoller that just stops working for no good reason, with the light just blinking orange. Sunbeam, when are you going to stand behind these expensive 'quality' products and fix the… Read more
problem, just read on to see how many of them are faulty!
I will never purchase another Sunbeam product after this, unless I am provided with customer satisfaction, this is simply not good enough.
Even KMart will replace faulty goods in or out of warranty, and when you spend the kind of money on these blankets that we have it is simply unacceptable.
Sorry, you just lost my business.
I had the same problem with a Sunbeam king size blanket costing more than $250
Don't waste your money! – I am now on my third blanket. The right hand controller has stopped working, the left hand side of the bed doesn't heat properly. I have written 2 letters to sunbeam with no response. Doesn't make me feel confident about the safety of the product in my house. I wouldn't Buy Sunbeam products again after this. What a hassle! 9 heat settings allowed me to heat ( when it worked) to my body temperature It stopped working properly! Again!

Sunbeam BL478 King Fleecy Blanket - Not Fit For Purpose - Don't Buy!! – Have had to replace the complete blanket after only a few months and then had to replace the controllers at least 6 times. One replaced controller only lasted 3 months itslef, none of the controllers lasted the 3 year warranty period. Have been told the failures are caused by power fluctuations and yet not a single other product in my 12 year… Read more
old house has ever demonstrated issues for such apparent "fluctuations". If that is really the reason, then the product is simply not fit for purpose. Have had the controllers replaced by Sunbeam until now where they are saying it is out of warranty. Simply not good enough for a product that costs around $500!!! The Fleecy blanket itself is very good. The cotrollers (BL0600) are complete rubbish and don't last sometimes more than 3 months!!. Expensive at ariound $500.
Hi Andy, could you please contact us on 1300 881 861 ask to speak with Team Leader .
Very Disappointing – This the second .... The first was replaced under warranty .... Now after only 5 weeks one side of this one has stopped working also. The light just blinks and it won't heat. Same problem as the first one. Tried changing controls but makes no difference. Rang customer service ... No apology but said I have to return it to highpoint ( which is a… Read more
casual 1 1/2 drive away) very annoyed. Generally I love sunbeam products, but their electric blankets are terrible. Love the quick heat up time Don't work !!!! Terrible unreliable product

Winter warmth – Love my electric blanket. Heats quickly and efficiently. Timer and dual controls very useful. Boost feature works well. Had to replace controls over time and these are not cheap. Doesn't heat as quickly or well as non fleecy version but seems to retain heat for longer so overall would choose this one. safe, reliable and efficient Cost. Controls not longlasting
they are all faulty – you will find the neon indicator light will stop working after a short period before winter is finished the controls will stop working I have purchased 4 of these blankets and the same has happened to all of them I did not keep the receipt fool if you are smart look at another brand do not wast your money on sunbeam they are all faulty

Not worth it! – This is my second I've bought, the first didn't last a season when one side stopped working, just kept blinking I went through and did everything in the trouble shooting info but no luck....So I bought another thinking I had bought a dodgy one the first time and guess what! the exact same problem....now I have 2 expensive king fitted electric… Read more
blankets with only one side working on each....I won't be buying sunbeam next time! Fitted well, comfortable, fast heat up Unreliable, short lived...therefore expensive, no way to reset controlls and I'm sure there is nothing wrong with the blanket except a control malfunction
When I first bought the blanket, it worked only once and then the fail safe system set in. No… Read more (+3 replies)
Good for the one season it lasted – Great while it lasted however like others here, one side of our Queen sized blanket died after just one season. We found this out at the start of this winter and have been looking for the receipt and jockeying for the warm side of the bed ever since. It's still a comfortable underlay, but should have been much more reliable, especially for the… Read more
price.
Sunbeam customer service were contacted however they were unable to help without the proof of purchase. We will have to replace it when we can afford to, however it won't be with another Sunbeam. If you buy one, keep the receipt in a safe place as judging by reviews and experiences detailed here, you may be needing it. At least both our controllers still work, I may be able to recover some of the loss on eBay. Great as an underlay, can't feel the wires, good temperature range and control. Unreliable, broke after one season. Also, control displays a bit too bright at night.
It's now May 2015 so thought a follow up may be in order. We finally found the receipt and Myer… Read more
Terrible! – This has to be the most expensive underlay I have ever wasted good money on! It worked well for about 6 weeks, although it took an hour to get warm. Then it started to take 2 hrs, then 3...My side has now died completly after 18 months! After contacting Sunbeam, I was assured a replacement and not contacted again. Dont waste your money!! Overpriced; bad service; didn't work properly!

Nice but annoying – Without a doubt the fleece makes it real comfy, but why on earth did the design team decide that you need a controller with an illuminated dial that lights up your room and stays in permanently, AND decided it should BLINK when the timer is up!? You're asleep!! So why does it need to blink! I find the blinking green glow lighting up the dark… Read more
annoying and have to bury the controller between the bed and bedside cabinet.
But my controller has broken after a couple months so its back to the shop and I'm not sure I'd bother getting such a fancy controller next time. DEFINITELY should have the option to turn the illuminated screen off. Soft and fast heating, especially down at the feet. Controller has a glowing green dial that stays on permently, lighting up your bedroom and to make it even worse, it flashes when the timer finishes! Left side controller broke in 2 mo.
Would be fantastic if it didnt keep breaking – I have had two King size fleecy electric blankets but both died on one side just out of warranty. I am now thinking about getting a third but am worried that the same thing will happen again. Reading the other reviews it seems this is a common fault which perhaps Sunbeam need to do something about. Other than a propensity to stop working after… Read more
a very short period of time, the product is fantastic but it's a lot of money, around $400 for a king, to pay every couple of years.
Hopefully Sunbeam may take note of the complaints and sorto ut the microprocessor which is obviously not very robust. So luxurious, warm and cosey One side stopped working on both of my King blankets just after it was out of warranty
The sunbeam blankets sound fantastic, are expensive and unfortunately they don't work for long.… Read more (+4 replies)
Sunbeam Safe & Sound Fleecy REVIEW – Great product, we got this for our 12 year old this winter and its pretty energy efficient, have not seen a massive spike in power bills like the old ones used to do and it also has important safety fetaures . "reliable, inexpensive, energy efficient
Bad – It taught me never to buy anything that has overcomplicated controls. I am very upset that such an expensive item can break so easily. My next blanket will be the cheapest I can find and I will purchase a separate sheepskin underlay I liked it while it worked. I liked the fact that you could set it to turn itself on, and to turn off after a… Read more
certain time. Also liked the fact that it was machine washable, although I never got around to washing it. I liked the fleecy finish, saved having to have a separate mattress liner A simple power black out (during the bush fires) killed the microprocessor in it - it was just out of warranty and unrepairable. My insurance doesn't cover it, told me to go the the power company. The power company won't replace it, because it wasn't caused by a "surge" and besides they would never replace new for old. They gave me $150 as a goodwill gesture.
Fantastic Electric Blanket - would not want to be without it – The best electric blanket I have ever used and would recommend them to anyone wanting to purchase a new electric blanket. It is expensive in New Zealand = $589.00 for a queen, but worth the money for the comfort. However, I wish you could just buy a new blanket instead of having to repurchase the whole thing including the controllers, when it… Read more
stops working. Seems a waste when they are functioning perfectly and only the blanket needs replacing.
Still, just went and bought our third one because nothing else compares. Pros - it feels fantastic, the control is easy to use; boost is a great feature and it heats very quickly. It is soft, snuggly and I have repurchased then twice now. Cons - Both of my previous ones have stopped working on one side only. It has never been the controller, as we've tested this by changing them over. It is just the blanket that has stopped working. Both times it has happened on my side, probably because I use it more. Both of them lasted approximately five years.
Excellent – Overall we love it, if you have been out late, the boost function is really great, has the chill off the bed in no time at all. Also the sensor that picks out any colder parts of your body great if your feet are freezing.LCD display is great as well nice big numbers for those of us needing glasses, no trouble at all to read if you need to in the… Read more
dark. We love it and the woolen blanket is great on the bed all year round. timer function.the boost button, soft woolen underlay, also the sensor that detects colder parts of your body. Cost was expensive to purchase.

Excellent – This is an expensive blanket compared to others on the market but nothing else compares so it is really worth the price. I love it. I love the softness ans warmth that comes from this blanket. The fact that is has two seperate controls is a great plus since hubby doesn't feel the cold as much therefore he doesn't turn his side on as often as I… Read more
do. The heat settings are great too as you get a huge range of temperatre settings to pick from.
You can also set the timer function to turn on or off the blanket at your desired time.
The BOOST function nis fantastic when you want HOT heat really quick. I love it.
Excellent – We bought this electric blanket after our other sunbeam one died (non fleece) and are so glad we did as the fleece feels so amazing! It doubles as an underlay and is easily washable in the machine! It comes with a good warranty and I would recommend this brand to anyone! It feels beautiful in summer and winter, as the fleece underneath a fitted… Read more
sheet feels amazingly soft and smooth on your skin. It's very easy to use and simple to follow, the automatic shut off system and digital display makes it very easy to customise It was expensive to buy
Excellent – We got rid of a Linda Electric Blanket that was making nasty noises and throwing sparks and got this as we wanted a wool underlay too. It does the job of underlay and electric blanket perfectly. In Summer we just unclipped the handsets and left it on the bed as an underlay. Love the fleecy underlay, love the 3 heat settings and the boost button to… Read more
heat it up really toasty before you get in. The control handsets stay partly lit at night casting space ship shaped patterns up on the roof... weird until you figure out what is causing it!
Good – This is a good electric blanket. The ability to wash the fleece and the heat boost function is very appealing. I am a shift worker and coming home after nights into a lovely warm bed made falling to sleep so easy. The ability to set and forget with the inbuilt timer is fantastic - not to mention the heat boost setting - a lovely way to quickly… Read more
toast up the bed. Just like sleeping with someone warm in the bed without having to fight for the blankets. I can feel the press studs which connect the fleece to the heating part of the blanket - I also have a wooden sided bed, and the control has a tendency to taps against the wood - which can disturb sleep.
Excellent – The electric blanket is great for cold winter nights. It heats up quickly and the on and off timer is a wonderful idea so i never have to worry about forgetting to turn it off Very soft and unnoticeable under the sheets No cons so far Show reply
Wow, Now I am in Utopia – Received this as my special birthday gift from hubby as he is always hot! (not in that way, you guys) and I am always freezing, as he just wants the heating on 19c. So I sit back and wrap myself up in this beautiful cocoon of heaven. Very Comfy and big enough to wrap around myself with it becoming too short! Soft, light and comfortable and… Read more
easy to clean. Great value and I am sure will last me for a couple of winters. a little on the expensive side of things, but the heater at home is not working overtime, so I am sure it's a lot cheaper in the long run. Let you know when I get the account.!! Well at the moment, there is nothing to whinge about
OK – Quite a good product, however if I were to start all over again I would buy the non-wool one. Timer Function, Easy to Use, Boost Function Lambs wool sheds eaisly. Spoke to Sunbeam and they said no one else had reported this.
Excellent – This is the best electric blanket my wife and i have ever owned. In fact we're upsizing from a Queen Bed to a King (which is why i was looking up the blanket again) and i only want to buy the same thing in King size. Nothing else compares. Set and forget, no jumping into be at 11:00pm wishing you'd remembered to switch it on 30 minutes before… Read more
hand. The 'boost' feature is a real bonus for those extra cold nights or that sleepin in the morning. Nothing bad to say!
