Solar went into liquidation three days after we paid our $660 deposit the Sungain Solar bank balance was $697.56. This is in a report from the liquidator. What I did: - Rang Sungain Solar on Friday, 17/1/2025 and got the recorded message that they are no longer trading. - Went to the ASIC web site and downloaded the Current & Historical Company Extract for Sungain Solar (ie paid $20 for this). - This Extract has the history of directors and shareholders, as well as the details for the liquidator. This is how I found out that Sungain Solar is being liquidated. - I contacted the liquidator and had an extensive conversation with [Name Removed], the Director. He was extremely helpful, and emailed me a PDF with initial information about the liquidation. This shows that Sungain Solar had absolutely no chance of surviving - $697.56 in the bank and over $1.3 million in debts. Dishonest company taking deposits whilst insolvent – Sungain Solar took my deposit for a system just before Christmas 2024 and then went into liquidation 5 days later! Even tried to get the full amount out of me before installation.
Thieves!! – If it was possible to give zero stars I would. We got a quote in early December and were (stupidly) convinced to pay in full in order to get approx 10% discount off the purchase price for Panels and battery. until mid January 2025. Then we found out they went belly up and took Insolvency on 24/12/24. 11 days after taking $13000 from us. Let alone that, I was advised by a former subby that they were calling customers right up to insolvency to get as much money out of them as possible. What they have done with the money noone except the insolvency company may know. I hate to imagine that staff were pushed/goaded into doing all they could at their managers' behest. All while probably not knowing the full situation. To the director/s you are beyond the pale. I hope you get the book thrown at you and your fines are MASSIVE from ASIC.

Sungain Belly Up – They have gone belly up with my deposit and owing installers. They have a messsge to request existing new clients email an email address but when you do they find out it doesn’t exist. In December I was being asked for more money, another deposit which I didn’t pay and they must have know they were going out of business then. Show details

panels for at least 7 months, and when I required assistance with a connection fault, they promptly assisted me, which tells me they are dedicated to their customers for years to come.
Do Not Recommend If Based In WA - Also Pay For Reviews – I do not recommend using Sungain if located in Perth. sales team based out of a few desks in a rented office in Osborne Park. Secondly, the time frame quoted was 4 weeks. In the end, we waited 7.5 weeks, and even then, that was only because we really pushed for it and threatened to cancel. Thirdly, we were pushed to sign the contract before a site visit could be arranged. This goes against the advice of the Solar Quote website and should have been a red flag for us, but unfortunately, we were too focused on the low price and quick timeframes offered.
Post-sale, communication was diabolical. It was apparent they were very reluctant to visit the site pre-installation, leaving it until the week before and again, only after I repeatedly pressed for it. The first proposed site visit was also cancelled with no notice as well, which was very inconvenient and frustrating because I worked from home that specific day and moved meetings etc around to accommodate it.
The post-sale team is based on the East Coast. Communication regarding time, financing arrangements etc was very, very poor. There was an annoying habit of ignoring emails all week, only to then respond shortly before 5pm East Coast time on a Friday with minimal/ no update. Of course, by then, the office was closed and there was no opportunity to engage, so it would inevitably roll into another week.
Install was also sub-standard. The Fronius inverter we were provided with turns out to be not the most up to date model. This was not mentioned or discussed during the sales process. The installation team left lots of rubbish, nails and bits of packaging dotted around our property. We also asked if any roof tiles were damaged during installation and were gleefully told "no", only to find out a few weeks later that 2 tiles had been cracked and one dislodged and chipped via another electrician we had visit for another matter.
Post-installation communication has also been very poor and again, all East Coast based. We were underwhelmed by the performance of our system, which seemed to be massively underperforming. We drew this to Sungain's attention. We were told a variety of reasons as to why this was the case and why a visit to inspect would not be required. First it was a Fronius software update. Then we were told it was a shading issue (despite Sungain being responsible for the location of the panels and the trees etc being well known to them at the time of installation). Finally, they asked if it was perhaps a switchboard issue at our end. In fact, the real reason as we eventually found out after 3-4 weeks of back and forth, was because our system was capped here due to WA grid regulations, and therefore wasn't exporting back to the grid as per East Coast systems. Local knowledge would have identified this issue straight away. Similarly, it would have been good to have been informed this pre-installation, in which case we wouldn't have gone for such a large system if we knew it would only be capped at usage.
We also received a random email two weeks ago seeking to address the above issue (about 9 weeks after we asked it). It seems there was no internal communication at Sungain and nobody had marked the issue as resolved.
Finally, I write this review as I have been asked to do it by Sungain. They have financially incentivised me to do so. $30 per review, up to a value of $90. Please therefore be wary of short, positive reviews.
We have gone with a different company for our battery installation. We recommend other WA-based customers do the same, and don't get lured in by Sungain's competitive pricing.

So from beginning to end the whole process was handled professionally. Any emails that I sent with questions were answered either the same day or the next. I would have no hesitation in recommending Sungain Solar.

Their warranty's on the solar panels and inverter were some of the best in the market that we could find and their long company history and experience gave us reassurance that if any issue were to arise post installation that we would be well looked after. Installation was swift and completed in a single day and they even adjusted some of the solar panels so that the anesthetics of the way they were positioned on our roof was perfect and not an eyesore. about government rebates and incentives. On the day of installation it was very smooth- arrived early and worked tirelessly throughout the day to get it installed efficiently and with care to doing it right! Had a briefing post installation as to what to expect thereafter and great follow up from the office and guiding the entire process seamlessly and in detail. Furthermore, follow up with the inverter update was excellent! Got follow up emails to ensure we were getting the most out of our system. Couldn’t rate the experience highly enough- professional, prompt and deliver what they say they will. 13.2kW system is operating as it was designed for!
Disappointed to say the least – So many red flags with multiple recent negative reviews from disgruntled Perth-based customers. Quotes website. Sungain dropped the ball for 2 months after being told in a presale email "4 weeks and it will be on your roof". Countless chasing and following up at my end while thinking I may have been [Content Removed] due to several generic email responses. Also woken by a 6.30 am call from a 3rd party installation business wanting to know if I would be home that day for a site inspection but unable to provide a timeframe.
Following the site inspection Sungain requested me to fund additional costs for scaffolding after a 3rd party installer inspection (that took 2 attempts) late April. I pushed back on the additional cost because the agreed price included my 2 storey installation. Senior rep called to apologise for the unacceptable performance of his team blaming a single underperforming staff member. Senior rep attempted to engage another 3rd party installer to do a "drive by site inspection" but was unable to provide a date or timeframe for installation. I suggested a full refund would be the best course of action to relieve pressure off all parties.
Edit In response to the reply below: I feel for you having to spend your Sunday in damage control responding to multiple single star reviews yesterday. I also noted the flurry of incentive induced five star reviews in recent days to prop up the averages.
I'm sorry you believe I misrepresented in my review but I simply stated the facts and frustration as experienced. Based on the recent influx of negative reviews I'm clearly not alone). Sungain requested a 30 percent deposit correct but unusual. Your terms stated 10 percent and that's above the legislated amount according to the following here in WA. https://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/sites/default/files/atoms/files/solarpanelsystemfactsheet.pdf I discussed this point with your sales representative who told my the manager would only accept 30 percent. I agreed and paid the 30 percent deposit because the rest of the deal was attractive.
I don't recall not being able to reach any particular mobile number as being a noted issue but it did happen a bit. Most of the emails I received were generic and that concerned me. You were apologetic for the unsatisfactory service I received and gave an undertaking to assist in resolving quickly. After giving you a few days you were still trying to organise an alternative installer to do a "drive by inspection" but couldn't provide a timeframe other than likely to be quicker than if I start again with another company (I don't recall 2 weeks being mentioned).
If turnaround time was 4 to 6 weeks then why no install date or timeframe set after 8 weeks. I never mentioned anything about 3 weeks (in fact it was "4 weeks and it will be on your roof" I have in a presale email late February just prior to paying my deposit.
When I saw some of the other negative reviews from customers similar situations including one where full payment was requested and paid prior to installation (as per TCS and CS) only to have installation delayed I got nervous and requested my refund. Refund prompt but short changed by $22 for "stripe charges". Still waiting for the balance.

panels could be installed. However, this was not a huge issue as they adjusted the quote for us. The electricians who came to fit the solar panels were quite knowledgeable and did a great job. The work was clean and they explained everything well.

Thieves! – Strung me along in December 2024 and took my deposit, only for them to cease trading in January 2025. I've been informed they won't refund my deposit. Highly immoral!
Bad after service from Sungain Solar – Would do no star if possible, been waiting well over a month for an appointment for someone to come and check my system, keep been told they appreciate my patience but they are busy with installs and only the original fitter can come out. Seems they take your money but don't do any service after.

It has just come to light that Sungain failed to inform my energy retailer of the installation. This effectively rendered the system useless until 14/04/2024. I have attempted to contact Sungain via email and phone and sadly I have recieved no response. This has been an very poor experience.
