I've just had 2 TLC Split systems installed in my home, Prior to this l had 2 Dakin Split systems, for 8 years, Now if I didn't own the Dakin systems, well I wouldn't be able to compare, These TLC units in every way they beat the Dakin in every single way, Quitter, Air flow, Smart App with my phone, included. All round better units, for less than… Read more

half the price. It actually tells me in the agreement to be in the wining, that I would have to give good and bad reviews, I'm being honest there is nothing bad about these units, especially when I'm comparing with what is supposed to be the best on the market, I'm not going to lie.

I really, really like having energy efficient Air Conditioners. TCLs 7kw air conditioner has an energy efficiency ratio (cooling) of 3.76. This is and a coefficient of performance (heating) of 4.2. That is 3.76kw of cooling or 4.2kw of heating for each 1.0kw of electricity consumed. That being said *none* of TCL's other units, 2kw, 3kw, or 5kw… Read more

are up to scratch in terms of energy efficiency. TCL's 5kw has an EER of 3.43 and a COP of 3.99. Usually, smaller units are almost always more efficient than larger ones.

Regardless, in terms of the 7kw, TCL's 7kw is comparable to the energy efficiency of the other most efficient 7kw's, the Mitsubishi Bronte, and Daikin's Cora and Alira X.

The final thing I was concerned about was noise. The decibel ratings on TCL's spec sheet are quite loud at 54 internal and 64 external. My favourite series, and usually most efficient series, the Actron Serene 2 is rated at 47 internal and 69 external. My second favourite is Mitsubishi heavy. If you are searching for a 2kw system, get an Actron Serene 2 2.6kw or Mitsubishi Heavy 2kw Avanti plus, as both have 7 star ratings, and have EER's near 6.0. In Australia, EER increases as KW rating decreases. So it is best not to oversize your split systems. I will better insulating my home, including underfloor to reduce energy usage, and replacing our other old, but still efficient 7kw and 8kw units with smaller 5kws when they wear out.

I was potentially worried about the noise, but after seeing one of this 7kw in a rental property, it was not anymore noisy than any other good brand 7kw split system. I took a chance, saving nearly $1,000 compared to a name brand unit. A decibel meter showed the TCL 7kw on high showed putting out noise in the low 40s, and felt equivalent to our Actron's or any other good brand 7kw split.

Long story short, noiselevels would be average for a 7kw, energy efficiency is top notch, it does an excellent of job cooling, and has been working without fault for 1 year. The only open question is durability, but honestly, you'd be shocked at the number of "name brand" units that are rebrandred Gree or Midea or other Chinese manufacturers. Most splits systems being sold today will be made in China. That is not to say all Chinese products are good; many aren't. But I wouldn't automatically write off a split system just because it is a Chinese brand. TCL is now one of the world's largest conglomerates.

Edit: Finally, I think this whole thing about parts availability and reparability is a not a huge issue. Most split systems will last 10 years. The rubbish Carrier that came with one house lasted 8. Any repair is going to be at least $300, but usually much more. Split systems last 10 - 20 years. At the 15 year mark, it may be worth replacing even working units simply due to the improvements efficiency. It's not that I don't value good brands. But I've had two Hyundai (Kogan) units made by Midea installed in Toowoomba that haven't missed a beat in 5 years. I have two 2.6kw Kogan splits, which are rebadged TCL's that have worked fine for 3 years. Energy efficiency wasn't the best, but they are rarely used, and paid $350 each. And our 7kw TCL is going strong.

That being said I am paying to install a Mitsubishi Bronte in Mount Isa with a commercial client, as I can't take the risk on a TCL, and reparability might genuinely be hard there. But I mostly consider split systems as disposable. Most will not have an issue until 10 years or more, and beyond that the economics of repairs do not add up.

I have however been burned on all of the half dozen Samsung and LG appliance (Korean) appliances I have ever purchased, so refuse to consider them. Every single one developed serious defects.

great for the price – We have this installed in our bed room and it has been a treasure to have either on real hot days or freezing winter days. Remote is basic easy to use and having the auto timer feature makes it a gem. Would recommend this unit highly. For the price it has been great.  Show details

Horrific! – Have had non stop problems after purchasing only 18 months ago. Complete waste of money and one of my biggest regrets with choosing this product . The installer and TCL have been a nightmare to deal with. Do yourself a favour, spend the additional money and buy something of quality!  Show details

Lasted 12 years without any issues. Unit was outside with no cover. Got my money's worth – Very happy with the TCL 24chs/g 7kw cooling/ 7.2kw heating unit we installed back in Feb 2005 (it is now Feb 2017). We did not use the heating part of it as much because we have gas heating in the room. Although it did take a a while for the heater in it to make any noticeable difference. You cant beat a 5 element gas heater for instant entire… Read more

house heating in 5 minutes though!! so the comparison is like chalk and cheese. Split systems are never good heaters. But as a cooler, this unit was a gem and kept inside chilly and cool. When it fired up it blew instant cool air and kept our large open space living area cool during Summer all day long - and it got a hell of a lot of use too!! The main box with fan, gas and compressor unit lived outside the house in the elements, so it was always being exposed to the wind, rain, leaves, sun everything as I didn't have a cover or patio over it. It worked for 12 years until the compressor seized during a 43 degree day in Feb 2017. Now for a $1200 investment in 2005, I think I got my money's worth out of this one which equates to $100/year. Seemed like luck was on my side after reading some of the other reviews. But then again, it's lifespan probably lasted longer because we didn't use the heating option as much. Word of advice to people looking to buy split systems. If you have gas heating use it instead as its much much quicker and cheaper!! If you have the option for a cooling air-conditioner only buy it and save yourself a bit of money (instead of cooling/heating in one) as it makes for less parts and problems to go wrong with it.

Couldn't heat a room even if it was on fire – We bought our house last year with this supposedly brand new gem included, which I find strange considering it's discontinued. It didn't cool efficiently during the hot summer and it's not heating now during Winter. The heating is barely warmer than the air con. Another reason for me to hate the previous owners of this house.

Worst aircon ever! – Please pay the extra dollars and buy yourself a decent brand as this aircon is just rubbish! Super loud, not very cold, starts and stops all the time and our unit has already had to be fixed twice in one year. Really wish our aircon guy had not recommended this to us.

Terrible – wouldnt buy it again and wouldnt recommend it to anyone.doesnt do heating cycle as well as other similar units . has a digital temp display indoor unit is too noisy. have to increase tv volume when using it and its too bulky.{comparing it to mitsubhisi and fujitsu air con unit}
