I am looking at buying the TCL 65X4US from Good Guys at a competitive price ($1500). From the reviews I have read there are issues with this model, i.e. start up times, wifi strength. I am wondering what the service support is like from TCL? Does the 3 year warranty mean anything? I am interested to hear of latest performance opinions, so I can make a better choice on whether or not to buy this model.

TCL have been helpful and responsive. I’ve only ever contacted them through their customer support line. After the 3rd call they sent out some very nice and professional service people who replaced the motherboard but it didn’t fix the issue. I phoned and they wanted to send another service person but I’ve run out of patience and don’t want to keep going through the same motions and dealing with a buggy tv. I phoned JB HiFi where we purchased the tv and they’ve agreed to give us a refund or replacement.

The TV is refusing to turn on from standby mode. The light below the logo on the front remains a solid white (no blinking etc).

Have tried the following:

- Contacting TCL Support .. no reply

- Disconnecting the power cord for several days to hard reset

- Confirming remotes have working batteries and that they are transmitting IR light as required

- Tried pressing the physical power button on the joypad at the back of the TV

no matter what it is just stuck like this. Have only owned the TV for 6 months at most. Was working fine prior, had Netflix open then powered off from a remote into standby mode and it just has refused to wake up since.

Any help is appreciated.

contact TCL Support - its an issue which power board, which they will replace. They will send out a technician and resolve it in about 20 - 30 mins

I am thinking of buying the TCL 65X4US. Can someone give me their opinion on the performance of this unit? From what I have read there seems to be significant issues with start up lag times/android problems. I appreciate any views.

Hi mate, yeah start up is an issue, the quick start works, but when set in quick start mode the TV turns it self on, many a time I've been woken up at 2am with the TV on, the android system is, ok, but can get laggy, the remote sometimes does not go back home when pressing it, sound is solid and it's a good looking unit.

Thanks Jamie, I appreciate your views. Have you referred the quick start and android issues to TCL?. I wonder what the warranty/support/service is like. It is the 3 year warranty that really appeals to me (assuming the unit is a a value for money buy). I note that the major brands(Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Sony) only offer 1 year warranties. My thinking is the better the warranty the more confidence the manufacturer has in the quality of the product. Is this thinking correct for TCL?? I wouldn't like to buy a dud!

Hey mate, it's got to do with freeview, turn off hbbtv in the settings and it will go away, I had the same thing the other day.

Specs of TCL 65X4US say, the TV is HDR Premium 800. Does it mean that it’s 8 bit panel and not HDR 10 with 10 bit panel?

Definitely supports hdr 10, the 800 refers to the nits peak brightness

You said the built in speakers didn't warrant not getting a seperate sound system. But how would you say the speakers compare to other TV's built-in speaker set-ups i.e Samsung, Sony or LG?

@Blair. Fantastic review and thanks for the feedback. I'm considering this TV as an affordable way to get into QLED. How have you found the TV now after sometime with it? Still happy with the purchase? Also, how does it handle fast past images such as sport? I watch a lot of tennis so worried how it'll render a fuzzy yellow ball. Thanks!

Hi Arif, apologies for the delayed reply. All in all, I'm really happy with the purchase. It has been approximately a couple of months now, do i regret the purchase, not at all. Would i still make the same purchasing decision, yes absolutely. Since my previous review I have been experimenting with the HDHomeRun Quad channel device and am using Plex which has an app available on the Google Play store (if you recall i was unhappy with the built in PVR features). I'm really happy with this configuration as it is gives me a one-stop shop experience, although the additional hardware that is required to run Plex is a bit involved because you need a HDHomeRun device and a separate server to use it. Plex gives me multi-room playback for recorded TV shows and has a great interface and features so i'm pretty happy with it. Anyway, I digress.

In terms of your question about image refresh issues in fast moving sports, I don't feel i can give you a thorough account as we are just not big sports fans. In the movies and shows I have watched since owning the TV I haven't had any concerns or perceptible performance issues on live TV. The only performance issues i have encountered have been with Netflix (which became quite jerky and constantly stalled for a second or so). Since changing to a cabled internet connection to the TV this problem has ceased which is a bit odd as signal strength is good where my TV is placed and I have not had any previous wifi performance issues. Anyway, this could be a consideration if a cabled connection is an issue for you. Hope this goes some way to help inform your decision. Regards, Blair.
