Worst Iron Ever Bought – In theory, this iron sounds wonderful. In practice, it is awful. The automatic turn off kicks in after half way through ironing a shirt. Then the water pours out all over the garment, ironing board and continues to do so until turned off. I stopped using it months ago and it's just sitting gathering dust! Save your money and DON'T BUY!!!! Extremely disappointed with this product. Worst iron I've ever bought. :( Show details

Not very good value for the price – I purchased this iron a month ago from Harris Scarfe. Quite disappointed with its performance. Due to its smart aspect you are unable to get it hot enough to get creases out which defeats the purpose of ironing. I have to constantly fill up the water tank and it leaves water all over the clothes whilst ironing. I wish I had of been smart enough to read these reviews before I made this purchase. Do not waste your money. Show details

Makes for light work – Love this lightweight, easy to use steam iron. Makes anything from linen to silk to tough cotton business shirts easy to iron without using starches. Easy to clean, heats up quickly and no scaly build up. Went with manufacturer recommendation using only filtered or distilled water. Good allrounder. Thanks for making my work easy Tefal!  Show details

Best iron I've had so far – Seems to work well with most types of fabric except for really difficult to iron linen. Sole plate seems to resist scratching and buildup. Heats up quickly. Flashing light is useful if you forget to switch it off. I haven't had any problems so far. Automatic temperature adjustment is handy except for when you need that 'little bit more' (e.g. when sewing).  Show details

Not worth the price – I shifted from a $7 Kmart iron to Tefal Smart Protect iron which costs more than 10X! However, the efficiency is not that different. Unfortunately it leaves marks on the shirts and it quickly runs out of water when you use the steam ON Show details

Waste of time and money – I bought the FV4971 model at The Good Guys 2 months ago because it was the only one on display not Made in China. (Big mistake) Does a barely passable job if full of water but if you want to wear the item straight away, don’t bother! This thing leaves huge water blotches and leaks all over the garment, and the garment needs time to hang and dry off after ironing. Time to bin this thing and go back to something a little less “smart”.  Show details

Unfit for purpose – I had used a cheap Kambrook for years which did a great job but after I dropped that thought I'd try something more upmarket. Big mistake. This Tefal doesn't take wrinkles out unless you use steam, and when you do that it leaves water marks frequently. Guzzles water at a great rate. Takes ages to reheat when water re-added. Awkward to hold. I've only had it a couple of months but it's heading for the bin. Show details

short cord, no manual temperature option – The cord is so short that it can't be used without an extension lead. "Smart" rapidly became "stressful" when you can't select heat options. When it is full of water, this iron works well but is otherwise useless. Unstable on the board and fell off. Yay, now I can throw it out. Won't try Tefal again just because of the short cord... frustrating design.

Just okay – Iron takes a while to heat up and tends to spit water over the clothes in the process. Iron cord is far too short, which makes ironing awkward at times. Disappointed. Not as good as my last Tefal iron, although it didn’t last past it’s warranty period. I don’t imagine this one will either.. keep your receipt!  Show details

work well – The design of this iron is novel, fashionable and atmospheric appearance, easy to use, complete functions. Functionally, it has several modes to choose from, which is convenient. It heats up very quickly, it irons the clothes very nicely, and it's like a magic trick that makes the wrinkly clothes instantly smooth just like new clothes.  Show details

great – I was pleased with the iron, it was a great design and comfortable to hold on to. The iron is available in a variety of fabrics, so it's perfect for home use. It's easy to iron, easy to use, and you can set the temperature you want. I have been using it for a while and have not encountered any problems at the moment. I am very satisfied.  Show details

best iron you'll ever own – I bought this iron, after finding it on a 'best of' on line review. I haven't been disappointed it is quick and easy to iron, I particularly love the very large water tank and the the fact that it adjusts temperature automatically; so far this has worked perfectly for me  Show details

Ironing is a breeze – I'm very pleased with it. This is a big, heavy iron with a large water reservoir. The display and controls are intuitive and easy to master. The cord is on the shorter side , but is sufficient for my needs. I was amazed at how much easier and faster ironing was with this iron vs the Sunbeam. My only complaint - it's too large to fit my existing ironing caddy. A simple fix - I'll order a larger caddy.  Show details

Worth what it costs – I would like to give a good rating for this iron, I love using it, it is gentle on my clothes and I can get all the ironing done quickly and not a wrinkle on my clothes, also does not leave the iron marks even on delicates, has various setting and temperature controls and easy to fill with water, the price is also worth for what I paid.  Show details

Perfect iron, put away and take cloths out and still perfect – Very happy with how the tefal protect works. I've iron all my cloths hung them up away and gone to pull out my cloths and they remain perfect! The cord is a little short and its fiddle to set up but once you get going it's a real breeze and irons cloths very well  Show details

I honestly don't think about this much but it works perfectly and has no glaring faults. heats well, holds that heat and does the job of iriningv ery comopetentaly.  Show details

Poor water and steam control – Miss not having control of heat settings for delicates and there’s No way to tell that the iron is providing the heat required for other fabrics. Terrible water control... often leaks and causes havoc. Nice feature is the ‘steam’ button under the handle. Throwing this one out as it can’t be trusted... wasted my money.  Show details

Love my Tefal products! – I own 2 x Tefal irons and do a little ironing on the side on weekends. This one I use for delicate fabrics so I'm not guessing which setting to use. It maybe a little bulky for some people, but I find it's perfect for me. I've never had a problem with it, even after dropping it on the floor.  Show details

I dropped this iron & it’s the best thing I did! – I have been using the Tegal Smart Protect for nearly a year. I iron many business shirts. I found the iron bulky, awkward & heavy to use. It did not remove creases effectively. The cord is ridiculously short & I could barely reach the end of the board. I was very concerned about dropping iron, when finally one day I did. I am glad because the $40… Read more

Kambrook iron I replaced it with, works 100% better! AND it has a grip handle, removes creases & light & easy to handle & has a longer electric cord. Brilliant.

A+ – After owning several Irons over the years, I wanted something that wasnt heavy to use but also go the job done, this Tefal Smart iron ticks all those boxes. I only use it on steam iron, but with a full tank of water it isnt heavy to use like others and gets the job done first time every time.  Show details

Does the job – I couldn't find an iron with good all round reviews so settled with this one. Other reviews said it spat white matter onto clothes but I haven't experienced that in the 4 months I've been using it. I kept my old iron for a while half expecting this not to do the job as well and a trusty old iron with a frayed cord but I have since thrown my… Read more

The only negative thing I have to say about it is the cord isn't long enough so I always have to use with an extension cord.

Very Very good! – Bought it today after a lot of research and tested on a Cotton business shirt and a pure wool suit. Firstly this iron doesnt hiss and spit as others mentioned, if you constantly press the steam boost a dozen times continually then an absolute minute drop comes out but the iron definitely doesnt leak. Ironed a heavily creased shirt and came… Read more

up really well, also left no shine marks on the suit. I found it really easy to use, and remember with steam irons like this if you use demineralised water instead of tap water as it will work a lot better long term.

For $90-100 AUD id recommend it. Would give it 5 stars if it were $20 cheaper but it is good value for money.

Doesn’t heat up enough to iron shirts – This iron is very disappointing, it doesn’t heat up nearly enough to get creases out of cotton shirts, only works acceptably on very fine fabrics. Also the cord is much too short and I need an extension cord wherever I use it. I’ll be returning and looking for something better. For the price it was very unimpressive.  Show details

Just fine – Bought this Iron 2 months ago. Irons my husbands's shirts perfectly but it is a bit risky to iron more delicate fabrics with it. Burned one of my shirts, so I have learned to not use steam when ironing these sort of fabrics which is painful as it does not do a good job without steam. Sometimes the water comes out of it and it makes strange noice after 10 minutes of working.  Show details

Not Impressed with Smart Protect – Iron heated up ok, worked well on cotton and synthetic material, then tried silk shirt, huge mistake, rippling creases up the shirt sleeve. As others have said, hisses and steams a lot when standing upright. Thought automatic was too good to be true. Would have been great to iron different fabrics without needing to change the setting.  Show details

Really good product – All previous irons that I had always damaged ny clothes...cue in the fact that i always forgot to put a protector or use an iron board. so through tonnes of research, I decided to buy this iron and the result was very good. It irons my clothes perfectly and quickly and even tho i forgot to put a protector when first using it...it didnt damage my clothes.  Show details

In 66 years this is the best iron I’ve ever had – Downsizing from the Tefal Pro Express Total Steam Generator iron that I’ve had maybe 4 years. Husband retired no more business shirts etc., I chose the smart technology iron as there was no waiting for the iron to heat up/cool down. And especially because it irons all fabrics without changing temperatures. When I turned it on Steam was… Read more

gushing out of it. Had to refill twice for very little ironing. Placed it down on the ironing board and water came pouring out. I was so disappointed.

HOWEVER, I’ve learnt the last couple of years to YouTube stuff. It helps. On to YouTube I went and guess what.

You are not supposed to sit the iron flat. It stands fine anyway on it’s very sturdy base.

The steam issue - easy fix. I thought you either had Steam on or off. But you can actually pop the

switch into the middle position- another easy fix. No more Steam gushing out. Did my ironing without a second fill and even had water left over in the tank.

I cannot believe how well this iron irons. It’s been amazing. Often irons both side of the fabric which cuts down so much on ironing time.

If you accidentally iron a crease it - it actually comes out really easily on all fabrics. My steam generator didn’t do that. This iron is heaps better than my steam generator one is. Faster, no more waiting 3 minutes to heat up. This heats up super fast. No fussing with temperature settings, much lighter to use and obviously takes up far less room on my ironing board than my bulky steam generator one.

Highly recommend this iron. Purchased from Harvey Norman $110.

6 months on...still unhappy! – I replaced my 7year old Sunbeam with this iron! Huge mistake!!!! I gave it the benefit of the doubt, six months on it is still spitting out water and a white powdery substance all over my clothes!!! Won't be investing in another Tefal iron anytime soon. Irons great – It irons great. When I first used it white powdery specks came out of the iron onto all the clothes for quite a while. It has finally stopped. It is very noisy and the water needs constantly refilling, irons about six items and then needs changing. Is this all normal? Other than that it does cut ironing time in half.  Show details

Flooded the ironing board the first time I used it – I saw the great reviews, but as soon as I switched it on the water flooded out of the hotplate and soaked my ironing board. The big yellow label on the cord said to ring Tefal and NOT take it back to the store. I rang them and they said "oh dear, take it right back". I really don't seem to have any luck with Tefail items.  Show details

Fabulous iron – I bought this iron as I run a small business and have to iron cotton sheets on a regular basis. It used to take me at least 30 to 45 minutes to get the creases out of the sheets and it was still a real struggle. Now when I use this iron it's cut it literally down to 10 minutes. When you are running a business time is money so this iron has saved… Read more

me so much time, hassle and money. You don't have to adjust the temperature on it at all. It adjusts itself to the particular material you are using so no burning. It warms up very quickly. The steam function is simple to use and it gets all the creases out in a flash. It has automatic switch off too after 8 minutes if you forget to turn it off. I don't usually review products but I was so impressed with the iron I had to review it. You can even iron vertically with it. I am very impressed. I bought it at Big W for approximately $89 AUD so not expensive at all. Well worth buying if you do a reasonable amount of ironing. If you want to buy the cheaper brand irons and you only iron a few items a year they are good but if you iron a lot this is an excellent iron. Made in France I believe. Brilliant iron.
