Makes ironing a breeze – I purchased this iron a year ago for my partner and used it for the first time today and was very impressed. The unit is lightweight and presses the clothes really well without the need to use the steam boost button even on several pairs of chinos. As it claims the iron just glides over clothes. Very impressed. Show details

It's just an iron – Purchased this as a replacement for a Sunbeam which 'died' after many, many years of good service. Being retired now, I don't need to iron as much as I used to so I didn't want to spend too much. Good price and glides effortlessly, gets out the creases well. No complaints there. It's balance when uprighting between usage is a little awkward to get… Read more

used to at first because of it's curved shape and odd shaped base compared to my old one and it's difficult to see the water level because it's so dark a purple. The cord length however is my bug bear. It's so short and it won't allow me to iron the shoulders of shirts on the end of my ironing board and I'm standing next to a power point. It would if I was left handed and my ironing board faced the other way I guess. My old iron had a very long cord and now I'm off to buy a short extension cord. An added expense and inconvenience I didn't need really.

Good for a year – Effective while it lasted. Worked well and had good steam, with a little bit of water dripping. Yet it died and wouldn't turn back on again after 14 months. Disappointing when with a 12 month warranty. Show details

Disappointing – As an iron, so far it works well - i.e. it irons fabrics well, without leaking, does the job it was made to do. However, there is a join in the plastic along the side of the handle, with some ridges below it, which cause a blister on my thumb after only ironing 6 - 8 items of clothing. As the iron is designed to stand leaning backwards, it CANNOT… Read more

stand in the traditional metal bracket on an ironing board. As it is unsafe to leave an iron just on the board, I have had to make some changes - buy a woollen blanket, find a table and make space for it. Consequently, I have not used the iron often.

I did post a review on Tefal's site, they replied Our staff has read your review and values your contribution even though it did not meet all our website guidelines. Thanks for sharing, and we hope to publish next time!

There were no guidelines that I contravened. There won't be a next time!

Does the job - very well – Tefal Ultraglide FV 4042 Steam Iron After two weeks of using the Tegal Ultraglide, I have found it an iron fit for purpose. It produces a good head of steam when needed, and so far, it has done the job with the fabrics I have ironed. I haven't tried linen yet, but I would guess if you cranked the temperature up to the maximum, it would work. … Read more

The Ultraglide has a steam boost button which works well.

As I had read in other reviews, it is hard to judge the water level in the water tank because the iron, including the water rank, is a purple-blue colour. But you get used to this, and if you use a standard size iron filler jug. (not supplied) you can live with it.

Some people might also find the cord a little shorter than optimal. But that will depend on where your power outlet is to your ironing board.

It is light, but not too light - probably just right for me. It has the excellent Tefal soleplate that glides nicely and seems to maintain itself, and it has auto-off.

The temperature control dial is relatively easy to use and adjusts to the temperature selected relatively quickly. A light goes out when it is ready to use at the required temperature or after several steam boosts.

I haven't had any issues with water leaking. The water filler does have an extra seal to the lid, which prevents any water from leaking from the filler. Please read the instructions because it warns there might be a water leak after more than three steam boosts. But I haven't experienced that as yet.

I bought this iron because my Tefal Smart Protect iron stopped working just over two years after purchasing it. I was spoiled by that iron's automatic temperature selection based on the fabric. But many people felt that iron never got hot enough to iron correctly. I probably got used to it. . The Ultraglide certainly gets much hotter than the Smart Protect. The Ultraglide is made in China, unlike the more expensive Smart Protect, which is made in France. But having said that, the Smart Protect did stop working. Apparently, some of the more expensive Tefal irons are repairable, but I don't know at what cost.

Overall, I think Tefal Ultraglide does what it says it will.

I paid $70, which I consider good value for the iron and its performance.

As with all irons, time will tell. With a two-year warranty that gives the bonus for having it replaced. So that's another plus.

This Iron is hopeless – I bought this Teflon ultraglide FV4042 on the 17/10/2020 from The Good Guys Cockburn WA. Stopped working tonight. Water leaks and safety light appears. I have school uniforms and work clothes to iron. No bloody iron now. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS IRON. Staff at the good guys have no clues regarding products they sell. Totally opposite to what they described about this Iron Show details

I hate ironing but – After using this for the last three weeks I don't know how there can be negative reviews for this iron. clothes....tick, no leakage Smoothness over clothes... tick, glides over everything Cord length...cross, too short and needed an extension cord for my usage Price/Value... tick...$65 from Good Guys early May 2020. Fair price and good value compared to what I have paid over the years for both cheap and expensive itons. Would I recommend it? Definitely yes Is this the best iron I have owned over the last 30 years? Yes

Tefal Ultraglide Iron – I had no idea that this iron that was relatively inexpensive could be so good. I have been so used to inferior irons. It is light and easy to use on all fabrics I have tried it on. It is mind boggling the choices out there so it was handy that the salesman at the Good Guys was there to assist. Show details

Terrible Design – Between the spray trigger on the inside of the handle and the cord coming up the middle of the back area of the handle, there is difficulty getting any grip on the handle at all. Also water constantly drips onto the clothes when the tank is filled during the steam operation, their solution is to wait a few seconds between iron swipes, as if anyone has time to do that. Took it back as soon as I could for a refund. Show details

Never knew an iron could be so smooth and easy! – First time I’ve spent more than $20 on an iron but wanted to spoil myself. So glad I did. It was like a WHOLE NEW EXPERIENCE!! I couldn’t believe how light, easy, smooth and efficient. Tefal definitely make ironing easy and I kinda had fun!! I love the steam and easily adjusted for different fabrics. My old iron was so harsh on fabric and would… Read more

easily burn or crumple up light fabrics. The Tefal is so gentle yet powerful, gliding over all my different clothes and fabric types with ease. The only thing was that I tend to overfill the water and when I do, water literally drips onto the clothes. I don’t think it’s a fault feature. As when I’ve filled it less... it’s been perfect. All in the driver I’d say getting use to using a quality product for once. I was so overjoyed with how different using the Tefal was I had to show my friend haha. Now a favourite brand!!

Great Iron – Overall I am happy with this iron. It is very steamy & gets the creases out easily. The cord is 1.8 metres long which is a little shorter than my previous Russell & Hobbs iron. I do prefer the longer cord. Still getting used to having the trigger on the handle and it is easily bumped. Show details

Easy to use and heats up quickly – I love this iron. It's easy to use, does a great job, heats up quickly and produces a good amount of steam once you move up from the cool iron setting. On the high steam setting (cotton) it does go through water fairly quickly but that's to be expected for the amount of steam that it produces. I also love that I can add extra steam when needed with a well placed button.  Show details

Lovely iron to use – The surface of this iron is exceptional. It is the smoothest and easiest to use I have encountered. It it fairly sold and heats up to a good temperature and as such is highly suitable for thicker cotton. Steam works well and pumps out an effective volume. Have no complaints at all - its a good iron.  Show details

Love this iron! Can't live without it – This iron has saved the day many times. It is high quality, affordable, and will guarantee you a long life. Thank you Tefal for helping me sort my business attire out, and for ensuring that my clothes are ironed well and to a high standard. Only negatives would be that the water sometimes leaks a tiny bit, so watch out for this!  Show details

Easy to use, durable, consistent – Fairly smooth iron, steam is consistent and so is the heat. Easy to hold and has some decent weight on it. Been using the product for 2 years and still happy with it as there hasn't been any issue. If you doesn't like heavy iron then this is not for you. Otherwise, it's recommended.  Show details

Great for the price – It heats up super quick and has a great amount of steam come out to help quickly iron business shirts without too much effort. I love how it has a huge water tank and does not leak all over the clothes. Best iron I have found in a long time. Very stable bottom holding the iron  Show details

Lovely Iron Smooth Action – This iron is such a relief after my old POS one! It glides so smoothly! My old one eventually got a buildup of weird brownish stuff on the base so I hope this one doesn't develop that but so far its excellent. The temperatures seem pretty accurate and the cord is a good length too. Really happy with this product!  Show details

Good fast heating iron – I was surprised at how quickly the iron heats up and the powerful steam is perfect for jeans and linen clothes. The steam holes at the top also make the job so much easier. So far it hasn't had any water leaks and I am hoping it won't. The only real fault I can find in this iron is the short cord which is just ridiculous. I did not notice this when I bought the iron or I might not have.  Show details

Handy Household Essential – This iron heats up so quickly that I don’t even have to walk away while it does! Once it heats up, it’s the perfect temperature! The steam features are excellent and the iron in general is really safe and easy to use. Doesn’t leave any marks on my clothing either :)  Show details

Great Iron – I've had this iron for a few months now. It heats up very quickly and irons very well. I find I do have to fill up the water for steam sometimes more than once during ironing (I don't have huge piles of ironing) and the lead was too short. I knew that before I bought it and accidentally pick up the wrong model. However my husband got me a small… Read more

extension lead which solves the problem but a longer lead supplied would have been better.

I am happy with it but would slap Tefal on the wrist for such a short lead - what were they thinking!

Decent enough. Leaks water – Decent iron for the price. However it will leak water out sometimes even with the special dial closed when filling up water. Steam and water spray are decent, the control temperature seems accurate. The base is nice and stable just a shame that it leaks water at times when you wouldn't expect.  Show details

Lives up to its name – I've been told by family that Ironing is my sport. I absolutely love to iron and I bought this Tefal Ultraglide after some research on a mid range reasonably priced iron that does the job. It ticks all the boxes for ease of use, doesn't stick to your clothes unlike some that I have used and produces sufficient steam to straighten most fabrics. I… Read more

am very impressed by its performance and would buy another one as a spare! The water tank is large but because of the steam produced (I usually have it at its max heat and steam), you will need to refill the water for the best performance. Initially I thought the iron was spitting water but realised after some use that the location of the spray button is just under the handle of the iron and that causes your hands to touch it resulting in water spitting on your clothes. I think Tefal should have located it above the handle rather than below.

I've owned this for almost a year and its not given me any issues or stuck to anything I've ironed. Would totally recommend this!

This is not a good iron – Problems with this iron are that the cord keeps tangling, it spits water all the time, the cover where you put water in the iron is hard to open, the iron sticks to clothes and the water spray button is in such a stupid spot that you can't help but press it as you use the iron, leading to even more water everywhere. I think these problems are… Read more

design flaws, so I wouldn't recommend the iron to anyone. Actually I wouldn't recommend Tefal to anyone either after this experience.

Very good for its price – The iron heats up quickly, the steam function is great, does not leak (which i find is a common problem amongst other irons i had previously), the temp control is great and even and does not have intense middle spot which usually burns faster than the other parts of the iron.  Show details

Tefal Ultraglide FV4042 Iron – Iron has good steam, but the cord is too short and the water 'max' mark and the iron heat setting are very hard to see. Also the water tank fill cover is not easy to open.  Show details

Good quality, reasonable price – It does what it says, the iron heats up really fast, I like the steaming Turbo additional feature and the xl water tank ... will recommend this if you are looking for a mid-range price iron that simply does the job. Tefal is a well known good brand after all.  Show details
