After may years using this router I suddenly couldn’t access internet after removing and reconnecting the adsl cable. However, I got on a call with Tinecia from TP-Link Technical Support and she helped me very quickly. I am still happy with this router after many years

Do not use it. Unreliable! – Very unreliable device. Every day I lose wifi in the middle of an important Zoom call. Nothing in logs. No new firmware. No support from TP-Link. TPG keeps saying I have to reset settings. I do Linux support job for 25 years and when someone tells me to reset my device over and over again without even lifting a finger to check anything on the modem... it p*sses me off. Show details

Not good in a long run – Use this for 2 years and did not realised it slows down NBN connection until we get more wfh days with kids during covid. Soend days inspacting on it and finally got subscribed speed back in number with netgear one. Can say it's good to have it as a freebies from provider as a backup only but the best is choosing a brandname which stayed with the market for long time like netgear. Show details

MODEM/ROUTER GAVE POOR SPEEDS UNTIL – Got this through TPG in May 2020 when we upgraded to NBN 100 since we were all working/schooling from home due to Covid-19. Had nothing but poor speeds from May until today, 31 July. Most times speeds were 10Mbps or less throughout the day and night, with apps constantly requiring reconnects, poor quality using AppleTV. After multiple phone… Read more

calls, being left on hold for 3 HOURS, being told there was no issue with the line, finally got someone who confirmed the modem was faulty. Now getting what we paid for, finally!

TPLINK ROUTER - VOIP Codes – Bought this used for 20 bucks. Unfortunately my model is the locked down pile of garbage provided by TPG. The previous owner had TPG credentials. Trying to setup my home phone with Aussie broadband is basically impossible with this as TPG have locked down the firmware so you can't access the 'Telephony' section. Also, the wifi range is worse than… Read more

my old Optus sagem modem. The only good thing is that the UI for the modem config is pretty good and my ethernet speeds are pretty good.

Its locked to your ISP – On sign up the ISP may say "buy" from us and get it cheap. All works well until you find a better deal and change ISP. This is when the issues begin. You start a chat session or try and call your new ISP to help setup your vr1600v to work on their network. Support request you go to areas on the modem that just doesn't exist, in the process… Read more

days go by with support. Eventually you realise these pages have been removed. Some digging on Google shows this is a rort going on with a set of ISP altering the firmware to hide sections of the menu and therefore you cant complete the setup with your new ISP. This is predatory type of behavior as you believe you are buying a modem that will server you for many years and freedom to move ISP's.

Useless modem with no ability to update firmware - so no VOIP capability – Modem supplied by DODO but they are unwilling, and so is TP-Link, to do a basic firmware update so I can have VOIP capability. DODO want me to purchase a new modem at $113 extra (ít appears you pay extra for VOIP) and TP -Link offer no firmware support for their products siting that they have relinquished such luxuries as a software (firmware)… Read more

update to the ISPs who provide the modem. None of this was disclosed at the point of sale. What about basic consumer law here guys as this is false representation - selling a product that won't do the job that you advertise it to do! This is now going in as a TIO dispute as I bought the modem because it had VOIP capability but it appears you dont get that extra facility unless you pay more money to the ISP. Don't worry, DODO are going to get one star too!

Robust, reliable product; had issues but solved quickly – Purchased this modem many years ago (forgot exactly how many); still works reliably and maintains speed to this. Dropouts seldom occur; I do not recall the last time it did. Had issues with connecting to the internet when switching internet providers, but this was resolved quickly thanks to Cassiel Yang’s help from the technical support team. Overall very satisfied with product and the technical support team, would highly recommend. Show details

Lifesaver! – I was having alot of issues reconfiguring my modern as I recently changed internet providers, I was connected on live chat with Natasha Liu who was a real big help. We were both sceptical at first due to the model of the modern I had (being limited edition), but we gave it ago and she walked me through what needed to be done and we were able to get my modern reconfigured. Natasha was very helpful. Thank you

Excellent technical issue resolution – Jasmin was such a patient engineer who was very professional and really helped me get my Starlink set up with my TP-Link VR1600v router. We tried many different ways and methods to fix the problems I initially had with getting internet from the Starlink Modem, but it ended up being a very simple matter to fix on the VR1600v router that was from the previous DSL/NBN settings. Highly recommend her services and technical expertise. Show details

it should be. The LED settings in this modem, also do not work. keeps ignoring my settings, and does whatever it wants. other than that, its a connection, it works. its also locked to my ISP tpg. makes it harder to do my own firmware update, as i feel this is the issue.

TP Link does not do firmware update?? – There is no way to undertake firmware update on the modem supplied by the provider. My provider (Iinet) put us to TP Link, who is unhelpful as I am not their customer.

Firmware Update - Archer VR1600v v2 - Locked ISP (iinet & TPG) – Modem working very well when i first joined iinet (ISP provider) they sold it to me when taking NBN but never mentioned this modem is locked to them. the visibility of my modem though net is working fine. Called iinet & they now say they cannot help as firmware gets update when with them. Very bad of lying to customers without know its locked. My suggestion is never to buy modem from ISP buy it directly from manufacturers to avoid such issues down the track.

Truly Awful Router – We had internet dropout issues for months with TPG FTTB, sometimes had to reset this router 3 times a day. During this time I was in constant contact with TPG and they tried everything to fix our issues and promised it wasn't the router. They even sent us a second replacement for free to "eliminate it as an issue" But after reading many reviews, I… Read more

was pretty sure it was the router. I bought a D-Link Viper 2600 and our problems disappeared instantly, zero issues since. This router is junk and if you've been forced to use it by your ISP, just give up and go buy your own. I'm not sure if it's an overheating issue, design flaw I had two bad copies in a row or what, but honestly just don't even bother.

Piece of junk! – I received one of these routers from TPG to test my line as I was getting dropouts. The unit was free, but I had to pay a $10 delivery fee. This unit was reasonable to use straight out of the box. My pc was connected by ethernet & I had several other wireless devices which would connect to it. I have a 1gig account with TPG. I would get about… Read more

920mbps on the ethernet and about 500mbps wireless. The main problem for me was when I turned on access control which I need to stop unwanted connections, my download speed dropped 90%! I couldn't believe it. I first contacted TP-Link to see if they could help. They didn't want a bar of it and told me to contact my ISP. I then contacted TPG to see if there was a firmware update to maybe resolve the issue, no was the answer. Also, they told me this was normal for the router to do this when access control is activated? After a few emails, backwards and forwards with TPG that achieved nothing, they got someone from TP-Link to help me (to my surprise). But it was a holiday in China and I had to wait nearly a week for a tech to contact me. The tech from TP-Link finally contacted me by email, I was told he would remote in to see what was wrong with the router. We connected on TeamViewer and I thought he would remote in and sort out the router.... Nope. He wanted to chat first and asked what was happening. I explained again the situation. He then told me that when turning on access control that the speed slow down is "normal operation" for the VR1600v?? I said are you serious? The speed slows down 90% and this is normal? He confirmed, yes. I was absolutely gobsmacked by this and hung up on him. I then bought another router, a TP-Link AX50 and have had no problems since. I contacted TPG to refund me the $10 delivery fee for the VR1600v, I told them I still have all the packaging and that they just need to send me a pre-paid mail bag to send it back to them. They said that they don't do that and that I would have to pay for delivery back to them! The VR1600v is in a council landfill somewhere now.....

Perfect – Actually, I think all this bad reviews were given by Telstra or other concurrents of TPG. Great device. Using it about 4 years with NBN. NEVER had problems. Connect simultaneously 5-6 devices. Two desktops by cable and the rest by WiFi. Fast and reliable. Months of up-time. Show details

Useless is the best I can say – Supplied by ISP ( but as a invoiced adder ). Live in a small house, NBN point and TP-Link in middle of house. Wi-fi coverage as flaky as it gets and the frequent need to reset has left me with a Bluetooth controlled power outlet as my lazy man solution. Show details

18 months of sheer pain – I have gone through three of these garbage, bottom-of-the-bin pieces of junk over the past 18 months at two different addresses. I have tried many configurations and had the technicians out… Read more

so many times in 18 months I've lost count. I thought my asus router was to blame. The problem has been intermittent which adds to the difficulty. The key fault with these TP-link routers is that they have junk-level LAN routers in them. I have resorted to having my asus router as a repeater node to get any speed above 0.1 MPS which defeats the purpose of the asus router benefits. I'm looking for a service provider that does not tie me down to this crap.
