Would not hire from here – Our van broke down and was out of action for x2 days of our 5 day trip. After negotiations, they said they would refund us for the x2 days we lost, but that it might take up to 30 days for the refund to come through. No refund after 35 days. Have had to chase them up, no money back yet. Would not hire from them again.

some great tips on places to visit and stay along the coastline back to Sydney. Small things like a webpage telling you where the free camping or low cost campsites help reduce the amount of money you end up spending as Australia is one expensive country!

HERE ARE OUR HIGHLIGHTS ON OUR TRIP

We did't bother with Brisbane, Surfers Paradise, and headed straight to Byron first.

Byron Bay area - lots to explore in and around the great Byron Bay area.

We stayed about three days here, but you could easily spend a couple of weeks exploring inland from Byron. Very beautiful place to visit

Mount Warning Night Hike - first place to see the sun rise in the whole of Australia and you can do the night hike for free!

Noosa - 3 day kayaking trip in the national park. Stunning and such a lovely place to spend a couple of days exploring close by.

Glass house mountains - beautiful place to explore and no tourists! Great for hiking and exploring Australia's natural wonders.

Dorrigo national park - real hidden gem and great place to hike without hundreds of tourists!

Port Macquarie - visit Australia oldest Koala Hospital! This is a such a special place. The beaches in and around Port Macquarie are really lovely and more locals than tourists! We went for a camel ride along the beach as well which was fun!

Port Stephens (also known as Nelson's Bay) - visit the 26 beaches and of course go on a dolphin tour!!!!! 140 dolphin live here all year around and was amazing to see them play in the water.

Then we went along "Lemon Tree Passage" and snaked our way back to the Blue Mountains for the final three days of our holiday. Highly recommend doing this scenic drive to the Blue Mountains.

The Blue Mountains gets super busy with tourists, so having your own campervan means you can visit out of peak hours. After 4pm all the coaches go back to Sydney and then we drove around the top spots with hardly any tourists.

Finally we made it back to Sydney and dropped the van off at Travelwheels Depot close to the Airport. The guys were super friendly and even dropped us off at the bus stop about 800m away as we had heavy bags.

Really happy with the service, price and overall value.

We would definitely recommended Travelwheels :-)

This is the first time we have ever hired a campervan and loved it so much! We have already decided to rebook it again for Return to Rio festival in 2018!

We had an amazing level of service from the entire team from start to finish! The ladies in the office Maxime and Vanessa were both super friendly and so helpful.

 They showed us how everything worked and gave us all the info we needed to get going to the festival! The campervan came with 5 chairs, an outdoor table and all the cooking and sleeping gear in the van! It even had a tent in the back and we had to kick out one of our party as they were snoring so heavily haha!@

The campervan was clean, spacious and has everything we needed for a good price. A lot of of the competitors were charging way more money, but we went with travelwheels because they were friendly on the phone/email and the price!

 We were so tired when we return from after the festival and Maxine was super friendly and did all the paperwork fast. Vanessa was a star as she saw we had all these heavy bags and then offered us a lift to the bus stop about 1km down the road right by the bus stop. It then only cost us $4 to get an express bus back to central in the middle of Sydney.

Would definitely use these guys again, and would recommend hiring a campervan for anybody thinking about going to one of the festivals near Sydney.

originally going to go with another company, but saw their price promise and decided to email them. Got a friendly reply and said they would be our quote by 10% on the spot!

Another positive point is my girlfriend is French and they had French speaking staff at the Sydney depot. Justine was very friendly and explained everything about the campervan.

Thoughts on the camper......

Great for two people and had automatic gearbox, so easy to drive. It felt like a car and was easy to park. We could have hired a bigger campervan, but we didn't need the space.

Another positive thing was the fact that it did not have massive graphics on the side of the van. You didn't feel like you were driving a mobile billboard. Because it didn't have lots of big sticks and was white we found it easy to park up at night for free. This meant we saved money on campsites and didn't look like complete tourists haha!

The Sydney depot was close to the domestic airport. We arrived from Cairns and it took about ten minutes in a taxi to get to the base. Also was close the main motorway out of Sydney, so easy to get on the right road to Jervis Bay.

Really want to point out about the helpful and very friendly staff. They explained about the toll roads and even printed out a driving guide and things to do in Jervis Bay guide for us. We didn't realise the dolphin tour boats left early in the morning, so just that tip alone saved us a day! We decided to make a detour via Kangaroo valley on the way down (staff recommendation) which was stunning. Then the next morning we got up early and caught the first dolphin tour boat and saw about 100 dolphins!

In summary, these were the positive points

Friendly staff - very helpful

ten min taxi from the domestic airport

Campervan was clean

Plain white colour and minimal stickers so no mobile billboard shouting you are a tourist!

Mini kitchen was great with 2 way fridge to keep the beers cool!

Bed was easy to fold down back to table and two benches

Automatic and drove like a car

Perfect little home!! – The car was spotless. Good service. Had the best time of our life!!! Drove all the way from Sydney to Cairns! Was the perfect ride! It includes pot and pans cleaning stuff, sleeping bags, pillows, just everything you need! Even a little fridge for your beers!

Great Hire Service and Clean Vans – We hired a campervan from Cairns to Brisbane. Our 3 berth campervan was very clean and everything was in working order. The van ran very well the whole way and was a comfy ride! Would use again!!!

Excellent staff, relocation helped me saving a lot money – I needed a way to get from Melbourne to Sydney, so I called Travelwheels few days before and I got a Relocation. The flight would have cost me arround $200 with boardbag... the relocation was $5 a day, so $10 and I got $100 fuel allowance. What a deal!!! So I saved $190. Thanks to the nice german staff that helped me really quick on the phone, everything was easy. The Van was easy to drive and I had no problems at all.

NEVER EVER AGAIN! – In worst case just bad service. We had a full coverage insurance and they told us we'd be fine if something happened - we had an accident, but they didn't even respond to 7 calls and they didn't provide us with any information or help. Good van bad customer service – Very happy with the condition of the van, comfortable and well equipped. Customer service however is extremely lacking. Unhelpful, arrogant and rude staff members who expected the customer to solve problems caused by the company.

DONT RENT A VAN WITH THIS COMPANY – NEVER RENT A VAN WITH THIS COMPANY ! Our rental of a van 5 people was canceled THE DAY BEFORE our departure and NO SOLUTION was proposed to us. Worse, our second rental with this company was a disaster, nothing worked in the van (no refrigerator, no water and electricity) and still after hours on the phone, the company knew nothing do and after multiple emails, we still have no answer and no financial compensation, this is a SHAME.

Great service – I used Travelwheels for the 3rd time for my Bathurst race weekend this year. As usual the service was friendly and efficient and the van had everything I needed.

Do Not rent from this company – Do not rent or regret. Shocking the worse rental company. Cars in very bad shape and dirty. When i asked to fix head light i was told i don’t need light and broken air conditioning will not affect my driving in 35’C heat, the person who told me this was obviously mental.

Brissy to Sydney in 5 days – Got a rental even though I requested it last min, and drove an auto down the coast. Magnificent experience being able to stop where ever I like to take in the sights. The campervan was sturdy, spacious and reliable and for me safely to Sydney. Value for money as well with their offers. 10/10 would recommend for solo travellers or small groups.

If the engine failure, "TRAVEL WHEELS" will handle of his vehicle immediately but he will leave you alone in the bush with your luggage, letting to pass days rental already paid. Yes he dares. He will forget that renting a campervan is a way to get around but also a way to sleep. "TRAVEL WHEELS" claims to speak all languages on its website. But only to take reservations. For trouble, promise disappears. The discounter "TRAVEL WHEELS" lessor claims cheapest by making you run huge risks because it has a policy of making you take engine failures as if you were responsible for an accident. The campervans are filled with small items for obtain your trust. All these objects are so many traps to keep your deposit. I am told that even used many times your Visa card number to pay himself. "TRAVEL WHEELS" is a crook. My complete file is available as soon as demand. After little research on the forums you will find many other negative reviews "TRAVEL WHEELS".

A long road trip – We had an awesome time in the van, kitted out well. No issues when driving and staff very helpful, can give them a call and they will always help out!

Almost 10.000 km hassle free! – Rented a campervan from Sydney and drove it from there to Cairns and back to Sydney again = almost 10.000 kilometers! We had a great trip and had no problems with the vehicle at all. Amazing way of experiencing the east cost - would highly recommend it.

Stolen my money – I would like to think that Travelwheels hasn't taken my money, but after a month and a half without a refund or an answer to my fifteen emails Im starting to believe the opposite. So they agreed to cancel the reservation and promised to refund us the deposition money, wiched they had already withdrawn (not reserved) from our account.

We received nothing and heard nothing more from them since. It has now been a month and a half and I have not received the money back. I have called customer service and they tell me to call another number where they never pick up. I have emailed both customer service and support (which is the email for reclaims) but NONE answers. Up until the day they promised the refund back they answered within ten minutes. Now, nothing.

I believe they would be alright if nothing goes wrong, but if it does I would NEVER want to have to deal with them. Specially as the problem happen because of them giving us a car that wasn't agreed on, not us.

Rip off business! – We tried to make a booking in the office. They had a good deal for a week. Next he tried to rent a van to us with a price of 50% higher than on its own website.

And he told us to go to a travelagent as he does no bookings. Like saying to us, go away.

If you want to be ripped off, go there, else stay away. It is not even worth this one star.

Take your business elsewhere – When we first picked up our Campervan in Cairns, the member of staff we dealt with was very helpful and friendly, however the campervan we recieved looked absolutely nothing like the one advertised. from the air conditioning system onto our feet - not ideal. When we contacted Travel Wheels they agreed to let us switch vans back in Cairns - and after reading several of these reviews i now know we were lucky to be able to do so.

When we got a tyre blow-out along the Bruce Highway, although the staff were friendly on the phone we ended up having to pay for the new tyre and wait for two days on a refund - again not ideal having to shell out $150.

The second van, although alot more modern, still had faults. It was quite obvious that the curtains in the back had been recycled from a smaller van. They did not fit the windows so we just had to accept that people would be able to see in while we were sleeping. The fridge was ready for the bin, the only way to keep anything in it cold was to keep it in the freezer compartment. These are small problems, but extremely annoying when you are paying this kind of money to rent a camper.

We had other slight mechanical issues with the second van, but our worst experience was when we left the van back in Sydney. The yard has the appearance of being a scrap yard - pieces of vans and cars everywhere, and alot of vans/cars that have the appearance of needing to go straight to the scrap heap. The member of staff we dealt with was beyond rude - extremely sarcastic and really hadn't a clue about anything to do with the van.

Although our experience with this company was alot better than some, i would still advise anyone to look elsewhere. Alot of the campervans we encountered along our journey were in MUCH better condition, more suited to carrying more than two people and did not look like they had been threw together like the Travel Wheels vehicles.

Horrible. Spoilt my Australian holidays – The Campervan was in an awful condition. It was dirty and filthy. There was a dreadful smell inside the van. The owner when we complained abouth the state of the van was very rude. Keep off!!!

Travel Wheels. From our second day in the van it started making terrible noises and barely seemed drivable. As stated in the terms of our agreement we contacted Travel Wheels immediately and didn't continue to drive the vehicle. We were asked by the travel wheels representative if the van still went and when we said yes he told us to keep driving. When we reached our next destination, after not being able to use the air conditioner for the shocking noise it made, (awesome in north QLD) we called the company AGAIN. Nobody answered and we left a message for someone to call us back. No one did, until we called again the next day. We asked to return the Van and were told there was no depot. We offered to drive it back to the nearest depot we were told they would charge us a further $400 to do so and we would not receive another vehicle. We kept driving down the coast as directed. At our next stop with the noise increasing we called roadside assistance who advised us to continue driving at our own peril. One of the fans had come loose and there was a possibility it may blow, spraying sharp blades back in to the motor. We phone Travel Wheels and advised them, they said that we would have to call back the next day. We called the next day, text them with details of where the van was and offered to let them take it to be fixed for the entire day. They said they would call us back and never did. The next day we drove it back to Brisbane and off loaded it at a caravan depot for multiple companies. They were lovely and all of the other vans they had in their shop were being cleaned and checked over mechanically. When I asked if we showed them the problems with the van we were told that Travel Wheels no longer had their vehicles serviced, were always owing the depot money and they most peoples experience were exactly the same. DO NOT BOOK TRAVEL WHEELS. We never met one person that worked for them, the people of varying accents we spoke to on the phone were bullies and they definitely do not look after their fleet.

Worst agency EVER – If anyone is planning a road trip... RENTING A CAMPERVAN WITH TRAVELWHEELS FOR A ROAD TRIP - BAD IDEA What a huge disappointment with Travelwheels. we got asked really aggressively without any justification of the price. We had to pay on the spot right away. Damage we still had to pay even if we did subscribe to an insurance with them that we paid $25 a day supposed to cover for everything and get you "peace of mind" as said on their website! And we hear today that we signed paper notifying that we had 24h only to report the damage (damage that we did not know about) - papers we got 10 minutes in our hands when we picked the car up and did not get ANY copy of during our trip.

Would like to know where the $25 we paid a day to be covered of "everything" are going.

It's a shame to end a trip like this. A shame what happened. And a shame Travelwheels think they can this way.

We are not recommending using Travelwheels at all. Better stick with the famous ones (that we all know about) yeah a bit more expensive but that seem clearly way more worthy of trust.
