Treloar rose is an excellent online rose provider with a wide variety of roses, ample of information (but not perfect!) and competitive prices and even throwing in free rose after $100. I am a complete novice with roses, didn't have to time to plant them straight away so have them in a water bucket for more than a week and yet all of them have… Read more
grown incredibly strong and blossom in few months time. Some of them information on the site could be better in some cases like the Bathsheba doesn't have a strong fragrance or Silver Ghost only lasts a day or 2, but overall a great grower
1. ordered paid May 24th only got the parcel from my yard today 21 July 2. they got my email wrong so no communication re order being sent etc, was missing 4 letters from my email on their end 3. rang today, oh email wrong, then the lady couldn't get the number of the shipping right 4. rang back oh delivered last Thursday, went searching, found… Read more
it in an obscured place, I am lucky they appear to be alive A lot of money for plants that may now live, due to their poor service simple as that, there are other companies that would do a better job I am sure.
This is only the 2nd time I've ordered from Treloars, the first time being over 5yrs ago. On my first order I received beautiful healthy roses that all took off as soon as they were planted. Those roses were still healthy and beautiful three years later when I sold the house I had planted them in. As it was a straight forward online order I had no… Read more
experience of Treloars customer service at that time other than receiving what I paid for.
This year I've made a larger order as I was after specific varieties that are rarely available locally. I made my first order but couldn't check out, the option was greyed out. I contacted Treloars they had a look and discovered that the reason for that was I still had an old rose selection in my cart that had since sold out. I no longer wanted that rose anyway but they even said they had located a couple of those roses and could supply them for me. An effort I thought was really quite lovely. I thanked them for that and made my order, but put the wrong shipping address on it.
I contacted Treloars and let them know and they fixed my error no problems. I then wanted to add to this order as I had decided to buy a couple of extra roses I had originally thought I might give a miss. The only trouble was I had checked out as a guest and the option to add to an existing order wasn't available online. I wrote to Treloars again, explained what I wanted to do and then set up an online account with them for my extra order. It was explained to me how to do what I wanted so I went ahead and added more roses.
I got order confirmation no trouble, and then a couple of weeks later the excess freight I had paid was refunded. My experience of their customer service was very good and I dealt with a different person on each issue and yet all was resolved as if it were the same person throughout. I'm looking forward to receiving my rose order and will update this review at that time.
Update- I re eived my order and planted my roses. All are healthy and growing well. The David Austin's are doing the best and already have buds on them. I can't wait for these roses to get a few years old. Very happy customer will buy from them again.
No customer service – I bought numerous bare root roses in the middle of last year. On 27 October I contacted them via email as one of them had no new growth at all. I was advised to cut it back and wait several weeks. I did this and waited more than a few weeks. Nothing. I emailed them a picture and got a very terse message telling me it was dead and that they were not willing to do anything as it was after 30 October. I've had a lesson in where to buy my roses.
Excellent roses – Excellent quality roses, ordered bare rooted roses and they arrived packed very well and fresh. Excellent customer service and a top Australian business. Thanks
Quality Healthy bare root roses – I've pre-ordered 8 bare root roses from Treloar roses last year and received them this week via AusPost. I've soaked them in water overnight and planted them yesterday. I'm very pleased with the bare root roses I've received, they were all so healthy with plump fat stems and strong fresh healthy roots. I've bought Treloar bare root roses before… Read more
and they all grew beautifully. I'll buy from Treloar roses again if only I have more spare spots in my garden!
Satisfied. No Complaint – In 2021, I ordered 7 Bare Root roses. All delivered via Australia Post as promised. Packaged as promised. I followed Treloar instructions and placed them in a bucket of water for 24 hours. Followed Treloar instructions for soil conditions. Planted bare root roses following Treloar planting guide. Watered according to Treloar watering schedule. All… Read more
Bare Root roses bloomed and are thriving. Now following Treloar instructions for pruning & soil rejuvenation one year on. Thank you Treloar Roses.
Poor quality – I ordered six bare root roses which arrived this winter and I immediately planted all of them out. Four months on and sadly only three have budded and started growing. There’s clearly dead wood on some of them. I haven’t been impressed and will buy from a shop next time, as it’s my biggest garden purchase for a while and very disappointing.
Poor quality bare rooted roses – Ordered 12 roses at Xmas time. Arrived last week not properly wrapped, loose like they were a bunch of flowers, mulch fell everywhere when I opened the box. Hence they had not been air-tight for 8 days. The quality of one variety was appalling. Single, thin, frail stems. In comparison store bought bare rooted roses have 2 to 4 strong stems. … Read more
Treloars are not offering a refund nor willing to accept they be returned. Very poor customer service to the home gardener. It was a $200 order; I am an old, no superannuation, low paying job hence it was a substantial purchase for me. I am an experienced gardener hence I know poor quality when I see it. Better to buy your bare rooted roses from a store where you can select robust well positioned stems. I am sure Treloars look after their big customers. This year they are no longer including some bonus free roses nor are they publishing their catalog (irrelevant to me, I only expect what I have selected). 2023 A few years down the track all the roses that did sprout were pulled out & disposed of due to poor quality. They just never “came good” as they were extremely poorly grafted, flimsy and weak to begin with. Advice to everyone is, shop at your local nursery so you can select healthy Plants.
Very happy – Thank you for the lovely roses I ordered online and for the extra one you sent. They arrived in good condition and are doing very well. I'm looking forward to seeing them in bloom.
Thank you – Would just like to say my new roses are doing well, with extra thanks for my free rose “ City of Goulburn “ flowering now with exquisite blooms Will be back for more next year Thanks again Penny
Bare-rooted roses i ordered online – I bought some bare-rooted roses from Treloar in mid May. The roses arrived within a week. All the roses are doing great. A few of them already have rose buds and will open up this week. So happy with the purchase. Cant wait to see them all flower soon. So thank you for your great service and great products.
wonderful team and great roses – i have been an online customer for over ten years. as i have always lived in rural areas i have always ordered online, the staff have always been friendly and my orders have always been on time. the roses have always been beautiful with outstanding blooms when in flower. when i had a rose mix up the staff straight away replaced the rose with no… Read more

Appalling treatment by Treloar roses after a dead delivery – Absolutely appalling. Treloars attitude and dealings with me are absolutely appalling, blame me for everything and take NO responsibility themselves. I was treated like dirt. In 2013 I received 7 roses from T. Now, 2019, all those 7 are well established and healthy and flowering extremely well. I planted each rose as per instructions, I used… Read more
Hortico Rose potting mix every time and I watered as appropriate for Canberra (ie very cold) in August / September. I am delighted with them all.
In 2014 I received another 7 from T. Likewise, Now 2019, all are fantastic, I planted as per instructions, same rose mixture, same watering regime. Similarly, all going wonderfully.
August 2019, this year, I received another 7. Planted all as per instructions, same Hortico rose potting mix, same cold Canberra watering regime. One died, or to be correct, it never shooted. (in Treloars terminology, it never Broke Dormancy). It never shooted. Hoping it would recover or perhaps it was a late bloomer, I left it in the soil watering and treating it the same as the other 6 (& same as all previous 14), but by early November I realised it was not going to shoot at ALL. !!!!! I lifted it gently, and lo and behold, not even any new roots. In fact in my hand, some of the roots snapped, they were brittle and dead. (An Abracadabra variety)
I contacted Treloar roses. After a bit of tooing and froing, filling in a questionnaire etc, they summarised as follows:
1 I was using the wrong soil mix. If you read above, I was using Horticos Rose potting mix. Ah, potting mix is the offender, I should have been using rose soil mix!!!!!! Ah, but what about the other 20 roses over the years, all going gangbusters, including and especially the other 6 from this year!!!!! All using Horticos rose Potting mix!!!They, the 20 are all blooming fantastic.
2 I was not watering them enough!!!!!!!!! Excuse me, Canberra is COLD during Aug Sept, and when I watered them, as I did in 2013 and 2014, I watered by hand until the hole was overflowing and they had very wet feet. It was twice a week at the max during these cold months. All the other 20 over the years thrived!!!!!!!!!
3 The abracadabra root stock was sent to you alive. Er, excuse me, it never shooted, above or below the ground. I explained to them, that they know as well as I do, even a bare root stock will have enough nutrients stored within the stem to push out some small shoots with minimal nutrients sucked up from the soil and watering. Well, mine produced nothing. When I eventually lifted it in Nov, it was dry, brittle and hard. It snapped easily. (In Treloars technical terminology I saw on someone else's feedback, they call this breaking dormancy. Well, mine did not break dormancy. It arrived dead, stayed dead, and no amount of advice would resurrect it, its called abracadabra, not Lazarus.
4 Because I did nothing until after 31 October (Their warranty period) I cannot make a claim. They said if I had contacted them before, they could have offered me advice on how to stimulate and get growing a rose. Yeah right. Dead is dead!!!!! I was hoping it would recover by giving it the same care I gave all the other 20, but alas, it was dead already!!! That's why it wasn't until early November I finally decided to pull it and have a look.
5 Its all my fault for the 4 reasons explained above.
All my pleadings and presenting these facts were ignored, and they quite bluntly stated they will not be honouring the warranty because I was too late (6 days) and the other factors which were my fault!!!! To the letter of the law perhaps, they have the 6 days too late is correct, but they are using that as an excuse to cover their delivery of a dead product.
Their attitude has been quite abrasive and blunt, to say the least. They put ALL the blame on me. Fortunately, my garden is now basically complete, and I will not be requiring any more roses. And Im glad too, Ill not be dealing with Treloar roses again. They are blunt, rude, arrogant and 100% blame shift. Ill be giving them a minus 1 star out of 5.
Outstanding Roses – Bought about a dozen bare rooted roses in the 2014 season. The online ordering process was impeccable. Roses arrived in due time. They established themselves brilliantly with a minimum of care, and we've been cutting blooms for the house since season one. Five years down the track they're thriving, and supply my gobsmacked neighbours with blooms… Read more
also. They've changed the look of the streetscape in my small inner suburban Melbourne street. Bought all fragrant classic tea rose varieties, the blooms not only looked exactly like the catalogue photos, but the bushes have so far exhibited outstanding health and hardiness. Not a single health problem. My daughters keep vigil round about October and we've just brought our first harvest of blooms for 2019 spring into the house. Thanx, Treloar, outstanding root stock and outstanding grafting. Years of exquisite enjoyment for such a small investment. Bravo!
Excellent Quality! – I brought 9 rose bare root plants for my garden and had to do some changes in the order as well as organise to know when they would arrive,The customer service was excellent,The plants are established in my garden and all are doing well. Thanks Treloar!
thrilled with my roses – Ordered six bare root roses, received a seventh as a gift, have potted them and all are doing well. I am really looking forward to my first blooms in the Spring. The Staff were very helpful so I couldnt recommend Treloar more highly than five star. October 27th 2019 Update: Don't trust the warranty In July/August I bought several bare root… Read more
roses which arrived after a few prompting emails and phone calls. However, when they arrived I was very pleased with them, planting them in pots as soon as they arrived. Within a couple of weeks, two of the same kind died. When I called about it, there was no consideration given to me re the warranty, just advised it must have been my fault. I was not impressed at all. Replaced these with two roses from Bunnings and they are going beautifully. I wont buy from Treloar again.
Roses Diseased Before They Arrive? – Concerned that roses, are, in fact, affected by aphid eggs and disease while over wintered with the seller and grower, Treloar Roses. Treloar may spray with systemic spray, so, at the customer's home, with the customer not spraying with systemic spray, when the roses begin to erupt as the weather warms, the stems die back from disease. of ecologically resistant to spray, aphids, erupt and suck the life out of the stems, and newly erupting leaves, causing disease to the roses. Aphids are totally resistant to ecological sprays. I have not had problems with other roses from other rose growers, furthermore, the aphids do not fly to the existing roses onto their new growth (including cheap roses from Big W). The aphids stay with their host, of which they travelled to the customer's home.
The aphid problem needs to be addressed along with the sick roses that are sold, and to not blame customers who have not had these problems with other rose growers.
Roses appear healthy when they arrive, as soon as the roses begin to erupt, the problems begin, no matter how lovingly cared for.
I would like to know Treloar's thoughts on this, please?
Misleading warranty and dead free roses given – I brought an order of over $100, was given a free rose (David Austin), that rose NEVER sprout nor produce foliage. Was extremely disappointed that the gift was DEAD on arrival (apparently free gift not covered under warranty). Another bare rooted rose I got arrived with a few foliage (arrived mid August). Planted into a pot, the new foliage did… Read more
not progress at all. Email back and fore about the issue, only to be told this sick rose is not covered under warranty because it has broken dormancy. Well, it broke dormancy prior to arrival! Call them and the operator said the rose was 'capable' of growing because of the foliage. Well, it was capable of growing on their farm, but not as soon as the parcels arrived. Warranty is not warranty at all because it is void as soon as the plants arrived. I have brought from many other online plant supplier and those roses are thriving. At first I was impress with the many varieties of roses from Treloar Roses, but their quality is just substandard. I seriously regret buying from Treloar Roses.
great roses – treloar roses-highly recommended ordered three standard roses prepared soil three months before planting 1/4 organic mix to my soil also turned over weekly am convinced planting new roses is soil preparation my three standards gave a stunning display of roses warren
Absolutely Beautiful Roses – I planted my promptly delivered standard roses in September and they are producing an abundance of beautiful roses. My first time growing. So happy thank you
Careful – I ordered roses and recieved an email to say they had stop selling them. I said ok, please process a refund. I then ordered roses elsewhere, however my order was not cancelled. Unfortunately the response from Treloar roses was poor and no refund offered.

Absolutely love the roses and service! – I purchased 8 standard roses which were delivered at the beginning of June!! Growth showed only a few weeks after planting and being a first time rose grower, I encountered a few problems such as bruised leaves, transplanting and all kinds of pest issues. Each time i emailed Treloar Roses, I received quick responses - within the hour or 2 - with… Read more
such remarkable reassurance and advice. The website is also my go to for how to maintain a healthy garden and following all the advice given, my roses are now thriving and so healthy. I would not buy roses from anywhere else!
Roses – i bought 80 bare rooted roses from Treloar. Every one except 3 are thriving. (The 3 I did kill was due to a spraying issue) I have ordered 14 more. Roses are fussy, sometimes it is all about the conditions. They delivered on time and in perfect t condition.
Bought 8 Standard rose but survive only two – I bought 8 standard roses last May and after few emails finally arrived in July. The roots were quite poor as well as plants. I have planted as per their instruction and only two have survived. I have bought 10 standard roses from Garden express and they all survived and flowering. Not sure whether to go with Treloar again. I need at least 8 more standard roses and would appreciate if anyone has a good recommendation to buy standard roses.
Standard abracadabra roses – Purchased 12 standard roses from treloar victoria, arrived in poor condition, planted as per instructions,(ph of 7_ 7.5.)seven look to have survived,5 dead!On phoning Treloar and sending photos,I was told they haven't had enough water,I must have only watered 7! never had any die before!Strongly suggest you don'T buy from this company but from a local buyer , where you can inspect them.
Blooming perfection – With catalogue in hand ordering online was easy, checkout simple & delivery was as I requested. I've got reasonable gardening experience but I followed the Treloar preparation & planting instructions. A few months later 1 of the standards showed no sign of growth where the others were, so I contacted Treloar by email & provided pics, again I… Read more
followed their advice & allowed time for response & recovery of the plant. I contacted Treloar again when it was obvious the plant wasn't alive & they've agreed to replace it at no cost to me & sent the preorder invoice for next seasons plant. Couldn't ask for a better outcome.
The other roses are now all in bloom & are stunning, a floral sunset as I imagined. The 3 free bush roses variety I probably wouldn't have chosen myself but they are stunners, love their color & form.
I'd recommend Treloar to anyone. I'd made phone contact before order delivery & they were polite, their after sales service was fabulous & the plants are just beautiful. I don't regret my investment in their plants at all.
This was my first experience buying from Treloar & I'm already thinking about what new choices I want to make for next year.
If you have any issues with non performance, I'd suggest being polite in your explanation, providing as much information & evidence(pics) about & of your plantings, follow advice & allow time for remedy to work, & if none discuss nicely & politely how you could work out a happy outcome.
Perfection – The service I received from Treloar was perfection. The staff are amazing. I purchased 8 bare root roses. They are flourishing. We had issues with delivery (not Treloar's fault) and they sorted it all out for me. Superb online shopping experience.
Customer Service – I am very happy with service from Treloar. I had concern about my order and I was helped in a very professional manner. The quality of the roses was excellent as to be expected.
No hesitation in purchasing again – Much like Ken's review, I am prompted to write this in response to Dick Robert's review. I live in Bathurst, NSW and have on a number of occasions purchased from Treloar Roses. I have the orders shipped to my work address, so therefore never have an issue with timely delivery. As mentioned by the other reviewer they do have a habit of… Read more

Excellent product, great service – I have purchased from Treloar Toses 4 times. Their product was always great, they are polite and helpful. Once I had a problem ordering a large stamndard. Other companies would not help me as they are large and difficult to pack. Treloar was no problem. they have an annoying habit of sending me free roses. Buy bare rooted roses from Treloar's at your peril – In July I took delivery of six bare rooted roses from Treloar's. Two of them were squashed and already dead and I disposed them in the Green waste Bin. I contacted the seller and expressed my displeasure. I was informed to send a photo of the Roses. I explained that they had been disposed of. End of story not. I managed to get two… Read more
replacements from a local Nursery. These were well established healthy plants compared to the four remaining from Treloars. The six were planted between seven amazing 8 foot tall Standard Icebergs and now after five months the two I purchased locally are thriving and the remaining four from Treloars are barely surviving. They have all suffered from dieback and have required severe pruning of dead branches resulting in very little of the plant remaining. Anyone reading this is warned that it is far better to pay more from a local Nursery for plants your can inspect before buying, rather than to risk getting rubbish sent to you online.
