Just be careful – Pay attention... VAX's after sales service leaves a lot to be desired. The machine is a little flimsy and the heads are weak, the brush element fell out of ours within six months. The hoses twists on itself and cuts of air flow, sending the machine a bit mental (there needs to be a swivel at both ends of the hose). It's a bit dirty to empty the… Read more

dust, also. You have to unclick the plastic case over the middle filter, which will be covered in thick dust and filth. There is no escaping this. Then you have to pull away the hairs and fibres that are caught up in this second filter. There are no little tongs that come with this machine to remove that hair/fibre and its dusty, so you get filthy hands each time you empty the "bagless" container. I find it an extremely messy and annoying process.

Terrible Buy – Loses suction gets extremely hot and has stopped working because of overhearting we have low pile carpet in all bedrooms and loungeroom. Have had it serviced because of overheat and not working at all. Even though the vacuum was immaculately clean was told I did not clean properly and was the cause of problems with the vacuums Terrible customer… Read more

service especially through the Good Guys who the vacuum is now under their warranty. Cord does not rewind properly broken wheels on head extremely time consuming to clean properly. Only plus is good accessories.

Worth the money – We were aiming for a Dyson but this was less expensive It isn't too loud and has lots of different vacuum heads for different surfaces. The suction isn't as strong as a Dyson but manageable. When it gets a bit filled it doesn't suck well I have carpeted floors so it works well on those  Show details

Very Pleased, normally a Dyson user but wouldn't go back – The Vax outperforms Dyson on every level. Power head doesn't block up and need to be constantly pulled apart, suctions great & quiet, easy to maneuver. Easy to empty. I have floorboards, carpet and tiles. I've waited a few months before reviewing so have a good idea of its consistency and it has retained suction.I was surprised at the amount of… Read more

hair and dirt it picks up as we have pets and girls with long hair. It's robust as the kids bash it around a bit while doing their rooms but there are no cracks or damage. Wouldn't waste my money on a Dyson again, the Vax was a third of the price and better in my opinion.

Happier than I expected – I hadn't heard of VAX before my purchase, & was a bit unsure, but I am so happy I did get it. The suction is very good. It is easy to manouvre. Long cord & pole. It is Quiet. Nice colour scheme. Only problem I had was the turbo became very screechy, but Warranty replaced it with no problems.  Show details

Pretty good for the money – I feel I got lucky with mine after reading the other reviews here. It's been fantastic for six years. But it needs care. I lived with housemates who bash it about a bit and a couple of parts have been broken and cost $115 to replace. Turbo head needs hair cut out of it regularly, empty the dust when you see even a small bit in the case and clean… Read more

filters regularly. So far it has worked well for me, and afterall, I couldn’t bring myself to spend $800 on a Dyson, but maybe the batch my Vax was manufactured in was a better one?

It's a lemon – (1) Back filter keeps blowing off. Have to use sticky tape to hold it on. (2) Hose kinks up. (3) Outer rubber on wheel falling off. (4) Little wheels on the heads have broken off. (5) Over heats and shuts down. (6) Hard to manoeuvre. Only have small rooms. The list goes on..What a lemon. Going to go and buy a better brand.

Not very good sorry To say – well going by the guidelines: 1/ Are you happy with the performance/suction? No I'm actually shocked by how poor the suction is. 2/ Is it light? Quiet? Easy 2 maneuver? What a Lummox. No it's heavy, no it's noisy & no like I said it's a Lummox. 3/ What type of floors and how big is the area you vacuum? Hi floors and carpet of two bedroom unit. I can't believe how expensive this machine is considering is easily outperformed by a $70 machine.

Not for you if you don't like to get your hands dirty – I purchased the Vax on sale for around $250. I have had 2 Dysons and an expensive Wertheim in the past and have not been greatly impressed so decided to get something cheap. First the good - it has great suction and with the turbo head attachment drew a lot of dust and grit out of the carpet. It is light to pull around and easy to empty. Now… Read more

the bad - I have found that the filter needs to be taken out and cleaned between every use. This is messy and if you don't do it it loses suction pretty quickly. The turbo head doesn't cope well with human hair so I have to keep pulling it apart to clean it out (have not had this problem before). Overall it doesn't seem very well designed machine but I guess you get what you pay for.

Absolute rubbish – Don't buy these crappy things. What ever could go wrong with a vacuum will go wrong with these. The motor lasted 3 months, took a month to be repaired. The auction was good for a few weeks only. The stretchy hose - pinches your skin and pull leg hairs as you use it. The hose split in so many places, it also split out of the heads. Emptying and… Read more

cleaning is a 15minute process. Impossible to pull around the house with the stupid stretchy hose. The height adjustment got jammed from day 1. The air that comes out is so hot I'm sure you can smell the plastic melting. Don't buy this product. Bring on rubbish day so I never have to see this heap of rubbish again!

VAX Powerplus 3 – Heavy, cumbersome, stretch hose is a nightmare, the plastic around the HEPA filter has melted and won't stay in place. The suction was fantastic, but now after cleaning all the filters it barely sucks. Now the vacuum hose has torn apart from the vacuum cleaner end and I can't repair it. NOT HAPPY

Great when working but costs too much to maintain – I bought this vacuum cleaner about 3 years ago. The suction is fantastic when it is working well and I initially loved it. However when we moved into a new house with new carpet the filters started clogging very quickly. I was having to clean the filters and pull apart the cylinders after vacuuming only half the house. The sponge filters is… Read more

easy to clean but the second filters is almost impossible to clean. Very soon the vacuum started overheating and cutting out. I had the vacuum cleaner serviced and two of the filters replaced and it worked like new again but now 3 months later the filters need replacing again including the 3rd HEPA filter this time and I can't justify spending more on servicing and filters than the cost of the vacuum cleaner so I am going to purchase a new vacuum cleaner instead.

Can't get parts! – I tried to get spare filters for this. Vax don't keep parts at all. I was lied to by two of the parts suppliers saying they had it in stock but they didn't. After being dicked around for 4 weeks, I'm still borrowing vacuums to clean my house. Don't buy a vax! They don't support their own products. No parts available

Bad buy – There is nothing to like about this vacuum- poorly made ( months in repair shop) terrible cleaning capacity, plus overheats whilst in use and cuts out on you. The handle keeps falling off the chrome extension, its capacity to manoeuvre around the room behind you is not as good as other vacuums.

Do yourself a favour – Good looking product with lots of accessories. Quiet in operation with very good suction. Turbo brush picks up grass seeds that dog deposits on carpet, whereas, previously my wife had to use a knife to dislodge them, spending an extra 10 minutes. Only complaint is that the instruction book is a bit light on for details, however, vids are available. Honestly, for the price, its hard to beat, and 3 year warranty is a bonus.  Show reply

Stretch Hose – The only issue I have with my VAC is the hose, stretch to 4.2m. Great if you have a square house with no halls and no furniture. I have trie dot get it enlaced with a normal hose thru my retailer but to no avail, if the person who thought up this hose did the vacuuming I am sure they would throw it as far as they could after only one house clean.… Read more

cheap and nasty – This is the second one I've had after we had the first replaced under warranty. Both vacuums got very hot around the filter at the rear of the unit. (which was kept clean at all times). Plastic started to warp around the rear filter housings and plastic coverings on the wheels fell off. Every time we do the vacuuming, the house just smells like… Read more

burnt plastic.

To be fair, the suction is very good, but the heat coming out of the unit is excessive and it doesn't take long for this heat to start damaging the unit. The unit we have is still under warranty, but we will not be getting another Vax. Bring on the Dyson> Has good suction Poorly made. Cheap plastic melts and warps. Wheel covers fall off. Generates excessive heat.

Poor Machine Overall – Poor machine overall, really heavy so it doesnt follow, i always have to move it around so it doesnt scratch walls, the hose is poor quality already broken as its too weak for the weight of the machine, im really disappointed, only got it 6 months ago now i need to get a new one, plastic stand broke the second time i used it

For the price, I've found it a good buy – I would love a Dyson... but I could afford this VAX. Bought it via ebay for $132 + $25 postage and have to say, for the price, its fine. Has an extra long cord, suction is great. Apart from the attachments, it is made from sturdy materials. It's quieter than my previous too. It is bit heavy to lug around, but not a pain to store. Easy to… Read more

clean too. So I'm happy with it, keeping it in the context of affordability - my carpets and lounges are clean, so I'm a happy customer. affordable, range of attachments, quieter flimsy materials in the attachments, its not a dyson

Purchased, used once, returned it – Honestly, It was like a factory second gone bad, only it was new. I am sure it was made on a Friday afternoon when the boss had left. The head broke during first use, the canister seals were leaking, catch on the canster cracked. I think the canister was out of shape. I used duct tape to hold it together and it seemed to work well. I… Read more

Do Not Buy! Shoddy Work Vax – This is the most poorly designed and manufactured appliance I have ever used. After 12 months of regular but not excessive use (1-2 uses per week) the litany of faults continue to grow, of course after the warranty period has expired. The wheels literally have fallen off this machine. The rubber tread was so flimsily fixed to the main wheel… Read more

assembly that the plastic fixings have all broken and the tread has come away from the wheel. I am now reduced to carrying the machine while I clean, so it won't drag and scratch my wooden floors.

Second, the auto cord retract works so well it works all the time, I not only have to carry the machine while cleaning but also hold the cord, so it doesnt fully retract while I'm cleaning and pull the plug out of the socket.

Third, the telescopic wand catch is flaky and more often than not will not hold the wand in fully extended position.

The actual vacuum performance is nothing to get excited about either and does not in any way make up for the many and I suspect increasing problems I am having with this machine. Next time I want to buy a poor "Made in China" vacuum I will make sure I only pay one third the price I paid for this piece of rubbish.

Nearly everything, although the motor still runs!

Good vacuum for it;s price range and small to medium households! – I think it is a good vacuum for it's price. We paid it $190. I used it twice by now and so far - good. We don't have pets, but hey, some of us have long hair and I think I would never go for a vacuum cleaner without turbo brush any more. Amazing how much it picks from he carpets after regular vacuuming with combination brush. It vacuums well,… Read more

doesn't flip over and is good for smaller to medium places without stairs. I like telescopic wand, but I think crevice tool could be much longer. It is not the quiet model, but this one is not THAT loud as well. Quite ok. Bulky when storing, and if you want to store it with wand clipped to a vacuum you'll find that wand holder is positioned at the opposite side of the vacuum hose entry, which makes it even wider when storing like that. Also, you can't store it that way when you have turbo brush attached because they didn't make the attachment on it, just on combination brush.

Emptying the container can be quite messy if you have a smaller bin, because when you open it dust contained in the lid can fall outside of the bin and is hard to empty it without making a mess. I recommend emptying outside. Overall, I am quite happy with the purchase...for now. Not expensive, turbo brush, long cord, not very loud, HEPA filter Bulky when storing with upright attached wand, emptying the dust bin, short crevice tool

Love it!!! – I actually like vacuuming now, yep never thought id say that! its nice and quiet and you can tell it has great suction by the amount of dust and dirt you see in the container when finished. I love the quick easy release lid on the bottom of the container because you don't have to touch or fiddle around with the filter. I like how its solid and… Read more

heavy so it doesn't tip over,

I love the long 8 meter cord, now i can just plug it in a central power point and i can vacuum the whole house from that one power point.

I love the long extendible metal hose, now my back doesn't ache from bending over, i can stand up straight! Long extendible metal pipe, long 8 meter cord, solid and sturdy could cost abit less

Terrible product and service from Vax – Bought this as a cheap alternative to a dyson, because we have a dog and needed it to work on carpet and tiles. I was expecting it to be average in quality and lifespan due to the price but the vacuum was terrible. Took about 10 min of wrestling with it to clean a 7 ft x 4 ft piece of carpet. Changing it to the carpet / tile mode would never stay… Read more

on the setting and would always go back to carpet mode scratching our tiles. would barley work on tiles and for a vacuum that said it specialises in pet hair it was absolutely pathetic. When I spoke to Vax to get my money back it was almost funny how unhelpful, rude and useless they were. They actually expected me to drive a two hour round trip so that I could have someone from Vax inspect it..... Have since bought a Dyson DC33 which is perfect. Will teach me for trying to be cheap! This product taught me that the only vacuum to buy is a Dyson. Everything about this product and the after sales service was a huge waste of time

Horrible – What a pathetic machine. what a waste of money. poor suction, useless unless you want to do stairs, because it won't follow until the cord is about 5 metres extended. Heavy, gets caught on furniture, can't even pick up a 5c piece or piece of grass longer than 3 cm. Head has never sat properly on carpet surface - hissing noise of air escaping. … Read more

Hose detaches from extension about every 3 minutes, no matter how firmly you try to attach it. The 'stand' for the hose is cheap plastic and twisted out of shape first time we tried to use it. and there are others... AND when I complained to the company, they sent someone to pick it up for 'testing' - 'we'll have it back within a week'... three weeks later I have heard nothing. Do yourself a favour and stay away

see above - poor suction, stability of pieces as they fit together, won't roll across room, head gets congested with minimal use and requires cleaning with a bent piece of wire to clear congestion; stand support doesn't work, barrel doesn't seat neatly - leaves an air gap where one shouldn't be. Company backing it initially promised to look at machine, had it couriered to Melbourne, but after 3 weeks i have heard nothing. Machine bad, company bad.

Really happy with this product – This product works really well great suction power, easy to empty and the accessories were practical. Don't know how good a dyson is but this is right up there. Very reasonably priced and has great suction Came with an older user guide that meant a call to the service centre to verify a maintenance issue

A zippy vacuum that cleans all surfaces well – I bought this vac, because I was so sick of lugging my kirby around. Having both tiles and carpet (and 2 cats), I wanted something effective and easy to use. Not having to deal with bags is a huge bonus and every once and a while we give it a clean with the air compressor. I think it cleans as well as the Kirby ever did and it is way more user friendly! It doesn't scare the cats, either. It's cheap, bag less, ergonomic and cleans well.
