Love it! After my Westinghouse bagless one broke down I bought this one, so cheap, so easy to pull through the rooms, great massive bag size. Never again a bag less vacuum! Show details
We have just purchased a vax vx40 and I have to say that it is worse than useless on carpet. The head will not slide across carpet, all points to the designer who probably never used a vacuum cleaner before. We have had vax’s before and they were good, certainly had hit the bottom of the heap now. Show details
Useless on carpets – I’ve rated this bad but only because of one thing. The head of the unit which is not possible to use as a vacuum cleaner on carpets. Hard floors it’s fine. But the head digs in on carpets. So, with a little ingenuity I’ve opted to use both the head and shaft off my old vacuum cleaner. It’s actually a powerful little unit and is light weight but… Read more
it’s not as good as the old vax that I owned before. So don’t buy it if you want a working vacuum for carpets.
I love vax but my product doesn’t last long – I bought two because I love the suction on it but I find they lose the suction after 6 or so months , what am I doing wrong ? I clean the filter regularly? Show details
Good with some compromise – This vacuum cleaner has good suction which it maintains for extended period of time. Despite comments from other people regarding the plastic wand folding under pressure, I found no issue there, I don't see why you'd need apply that much force on the wand after all this is a vacuum cleaner not a floor scrubber. I found the floor attachment… Read more
to be quite narrow for a vacuum cleaner of this type and no the best design. Removing and attaching the hard floor adaptor didn't seem to be an issue however it is awkward to vacuum some hard floor types as it sort of vibrates through the surface due to the type of bristles used and possibly due to it's light weight.
The biggest drawback is however the noise level. I understand this is the case with these types of budget vacuum cleaners, but it should come with ear muffs or ear plugs because it's like a fighet jet taking off in your back yard.
I gave 3 stars to this vacuum cleaner because there is no 2.5 star option. Overall it does what it is designed to do but you have to put up with the draw backs that comes with the price tag.
Disappointing and impractical to use – This product is called a wet and dry vacuum. It is not a carpet cleaner. The motor takes up most of the capacity of the body of the vac leaving very little space for the paper bag to expand and collect the dirt. It is not very powerful and the hose is plastic so you cannot apply much pressure to it. I didn't find it very good for cleaning carpet or laminate floors. I have not used it for vacuuming up water so I am unable to comment. Show details
One of my best purchases – I was a little hesitant to buy the VAX, but through I’d give it a go, due to the low price. Well I must say, it’s definitely being one of my best purchases. I have an elderly, long hair cat and I use the VAX sometimes on a daily basis to vacuum up hair, hairballs and whatever else she desires to bring and dump onto my carpet. The VAX has taken… Read more
in like nothing. I have had zero issues with it clogging ect.
I use it on my carpet, tile and floorboards and it performs beautifully on all surfaces. It never struggles to suck up pet hair, dust, crumbs ect.
I haven’t had any issues with it tipping over, and I drag it all over the house.
My only two small complaints are the plastic hose is a little short, I wish it had an extra length in it for taller people. Also I am pretty certain it was supposed to come with an attachment for the car, but I never got one. Maybe it’s an extra, not sure. It would be handy to clean my car with.
So after a year of heavy use, I can’t recommend this more. It’s an absolute steal for the price! I expect unlike a lot of things now, it will last too.
Bad product – It’s heavy, big, bulky and it’s hose kinks very easily and it clogs Show details
The new V 40 is no where near the old one – The V40n is cheap thin plastic, the filter restricts the dirt bag from filling, and the worst thing of all the hose fittings does not have the slide that allowed control of the suction, the cleaning head is very thin plastic that digs into carpet and is rubbish. Very disappointed with the product Show details
GARBAGE – My first vacuum cleaner was a vax back in the 90's and this one is flimsy, hose is stiff plastic and there is no give in it and the floor brush is too small. Plastic wand is bendy. Vax do yourself a favour and make it like it use to be. Would give under 1 star. Show details
Stinks and smoked – First use smelt funny. Within 3 weeks and use 2x a week it smoked and sparked within. Has only been used on tiles and no wet products. Show details
Great vac - if you buy a few upgrades – Overall this is a great vacuum cleaner for the price. Heaps of consistent suction, large capacity, stable, long cord, 35mm standard attachments - ie great fundamentals. What it lacks is a metal rod - the 3 part plastic one feels flimsy. I'm sure its ok for gently stroking hard floors, but if you like to really give your shag pile carpet a… Read more
thrashing, I don't think its really up for the task. The vacuum head is for hard floors - if you try using it on carpet it will grab and not slide smoothly.
The third thing that would have made it a 6 star vacuum would have been a water extraction head - so you could spray cleaning fluid onto carpet and then use this to suction it dry.
Both all of these shortfalls can be easily remedied by purchasing an aftermarket 35mm steel rod and a proper carpet attachment or turbo brush, and a water extraction head - cost in total about another $60.
*Now* I have a great vacuum cleaner!
Good budget model for the garage – Bought this wet and dry vacuum cleaner because it's cheap, has large capacity and can suck up water and help dry wet carpet etc. Would suit someone who doesn't want all their spare cash tied up in vacuum cleaners. Show details

OK by Australian Standards – I would like less noise and a retractable cord. The plastic tube with the brush/head are awful. Luckily, the metal tube and brush from the old VC fitted in nicely, which made the new one usable. Like some other reviewer, I got it assuming it was bagless. Checking bag prices made me realize that this VC is not cheap at all. Will have to figure out how to rectify my own mistake. Show details
Saved my damn life – To answer my own questions when I got it: Yes, it will suck the immeasurable amount of water from your carpet that you obviously didn't put in there yourself. I see people commenting about whether or not it needs a bag, but what they're saying is that the barrel can be used without a vacuum bag, you will just have to empty and clean it yourself… Read more
after you vacuum. The water filter is a little flimsy, but I don't think most people will use it as ferociously as I did (to get all of the water out of my carpet). It won't dispense carpet cleaning foam for you, but it will suck up just about anything you put in front of it. The head is a little crap, though, and I have just been using the hose (but, again. immeasurable amount of water).
Doesn't have shampoo mode like the first vax how poor – Wish it had insert like the original vax I feel totally ripped off now I need to find an old one to clean my carpet. Thanks alot for a poor product should of kept it the same as first one it's like I've downgraded Show details
Much better value and more efficient than some big priced items like Dyson – We had an expensive piece of garbage than just stopped about a month out of warranty. To even evaluate it for repair would have cost over $100 ("These are very difficult to fix") were the exact words so we went to Bunnings and purchased the Vax and haven't looked back. We had a Vax previously and it lasted 10 years but my wife was talked into an… Read more
expensive one that not only was useless but also hurt your back. The moral is "if you find a reliable product stick with it and don't listen to the hype of salesmen oops salespersons.
Best vacuum cleaner I've ever had – Great vacuum cleaner. Good suction and it can hold a fair amount of rubbish before the bag needs to be replaced. We also us it in reverse and blow down the veranda with it. It wheels great. Nice and smooth and never tips over. The only negative of this vacuum is I don't like it's head. It's just too simple. Perhaps add some more detail or soft bit on the bottom. Show details
Plain and simple, and it works – I bought this vacuum cleaner after using the same type at our ski lodge. and because I absolutely hated my horrible Hoover Pet one, which was (and still is) useless. You can actually use this without the dust bag and I tried that, but decided it's probably better with a bag. Have been working through the bags at Bunnings, but so far no luck,… Read more
but you can get these bags on eBay for less than the official price.
It's noisy but not too bad, it sucks up stuff including off a hard floor (which stumped the Hoover) and I can use the Hoover's attachments too, but haven't bothered yet. Nice long cord, very portable (I have lots of steps), and it WORKS.
Good for a workshop vac – I bought this to use as a shop vac/dust extraction system but to also use the wet vac feature on upholstery and rugs. So far i have only used it for dust extraction and general workshop vacuuming but it works well. Yes it is noisy, but it is also very powerful. It seems pretty well made apart from the attachments, i don't like the idea of… Read more
attaching 3 poles together to make an extension, and the main head is not great. these are minor flaws in my mind because I really don't need these features for my needs. The replacement dust bags are expensive but I think I'll just empty and reuse the same one that came with it....because im cheap. in terms of suction and power, this vac delivers and i look forward to trying the wet vac feature when the need arises.
Poor – The Wet filter is extremely fragile. It Tore while i was putting it on. I Would not recommend this cleaner for anyone wanting to use it on wet areas. The Suction appears to be good and the hose clip and handle are good, but bearing in mind the poor quality of the foam filter, worry that it's just not going to be good value. Show details
Wish I'd known it had a dust bag – Someone said this vacuum doesn't have a dust bag. It does. It only comes with one and they are expensive. I wish I'd known that when I bought it. I wouldn't have. Also it is very noisy and doesn't suck very well. The plastic head is too small and feels flimsy. I bought it to clean up wood dust and shavings but it has a hard time with that. I ended up sweeping up most into a dustpan. I'm really not happy with my purchase. Show details

no frills power – this vaccum is good value for money, plenty of power makes easy going for hard floors and carpet. the unit sounds like a jet aircraft and is quite noisy to operate.hoses and wand tubes are flimsy and the replacement bags are expensive but for under a hundred dollars it's pretty good Show details
Great extension. cant live without – This VAX 20 litre wet & dry Completely does the lot. With its wet and dry features it sucks up completely, not only dust and dirt but water itself. Leaving a flawless and faultless finish it directly reaches into all the hard locations with its super long flexible hose and extension tubing. Which is great for backs also if u don't like bending.… Read more
Also able to reach high up features without lifting vacuum or standing on stilt chair as to avoid clumsiness. This is ideal a really great feature and it has an eight metre lead, cord can make vacuuming so much easier without replugging so often as it reaches further than most vacuum previously owned.
I would rate a 4/5 due to extension, coverage and it really does a decent job to say least.
At a bargain price of $99 it is a great buy. Purchased from The Good Guys during the month of July.
Unquestionably a great Purchase, losing only one point due to not being a bagless model. Bags to be purchased separately, containing only one.
It's great... except for one thing – This vacuum is great, I use it everyday But there is one thing I didn't really like & that is the vacuum head, both tube & head is plastic & the head doesn't do very good on carpet because of the fantastic suction it just doesn't move, but other then that it is a great vacuum, :) Show details
best ever – This is the best vacuum I"ve ever owned, It works on Wet and Dry floors. No bag, so there's no extra money that you need to spend ever. Plus it was on sale on one of the bargain websites, it was call cudo.com. It was a steal 40 deleivered to my door. Show details
Good, noisy, very noisy – Purchased last December to try and clean the carpets a little and replace my aging Electrolux. Does not vacuum as well as the Lux and is definitely much noisier than any vacuum I have ever used. Performance is very average. Is now a permanent resident of my workshop, coupled up to a tube for catching wood dust and also cleaning the floor. I do not recommend it to any user with carpet flooring. Unless you can remove hearing aides. Show details
Fantastic suction! – Great vac compared to the bagless ones I have used. Excellent suction, lightweight and easy to move around. Picks up cat hair no problem. Only negative is that this model only comes with cheap plastic non adjustable wand which can fall apart while vacuuming if you don't keep pushing it back in. Am considering purchasing a steel adjustable wand. Show details
Vax wet/dry vacuum – The Vax VX40 wet/dry vac is a brilliant little drum type vacuum. Has great suction and capacity. Is also very easy to manoeuvre around the house. In my opinion, I think the only thing that lets down this model of Vax is the plastic vacuum tube. It has a tendency to warp whilst vacuuming which makes getting through thick pile carpet a little time consuming because you don't want to put too much pressure on the vacuum tube. Show details
