Great Whipper Snipper for – Many people say fuel cap leaking. I concur with this but it is only $4.90 with free delivery on ebay to replace the broken inner seal with a black rubber seal housing and a white plastic bell, which takes a whole 30 seconds to do from start to finish. I have 3 of these whipper snippers. 2008 model, 2010 model (owned since new) and a 2015 model… Read more

(second hand because it was only $50). All with different ends -straight shaft, bent shaft, edger. I use the 2008 the most (straight shaft) and have never had any problems with it other than leaking petrol from the petrol cap which is very easy to replace for someone with no whipper snipper experience. 2010 model also has a leaking petrol cap but haven't replaced it yet because rarely use it and 2015 model doesn't have any problems but is not the same to start as the earlier models and I find it a little more difficult to do but that purely because I'm not used to it. Never once have I had loose bolts on any of my models or take the motor apart to fix, like some of the older posts have complained about.

Just don't buy it – So many faults, so little time. The only thing I liked about the machine was the manual feed head - I've had bump heads before (including a Stihl) and the line just melts in them. The 3mm cord lasts fairly well if you get the good stuff. But talk about hard to start - invariably 20 pulls on the cord just to get some life into it, and then I… Read more

needed another half dozen pulls tickling the choke delicately back and forth to coach it into running. Yes, I was priming 10x and more as recommended. Fresh fuel made no difference. By the time I'd got it running I was too tired to do the job!

Got it serviced. Didn't help.

Eventually the starter mechanism broke so I had that replaced.

The fuel tank constantly spews 2-stroke all over me and my grass while cutting unless I only fill it 1/3 full and hold the thing just right - and sometimes just all the time. I have to empty the tank every time I put it away otherwise it just leaks all over the garage floor.

Then the head wore out so I ordered a new one - the genuine new Victa head didn't fit (wrong thread) so I used an after market one.

Yesterday it flat failed to start at all after 50 pulls. I think there's a problem with the fuel primer as there's no pressure in the bulb when I pump it.

So it's time to pull the pin on this crock and stop wasting money, time and effort on it. I'll never buy another Victa anything. Management (the wife) has approved a new Honda 4-stroke so that's what I'm getting.

For all the 1/2/3 star reviewers, are you following the startup procedures? – Hi, This Victa Line Trimmer works just fine. Assembly was easy enough, fuel mixing and filling okay, and followed the startup procedures exactly. Works fine. I think what might be happening for the reviewers below is that they forget to switch the lever from Cold Start to Hot Start after 2-3 pulls on the cord. By leaving it on Cold Start, the fuel… Read more

mixture will be too rich and you'll "flood it". I find the power acceptable, but yes it does get warm against inside of right arm, the skin is quite soft there and is susceptible to heat. Easy fix, don't put your arm there and you'll have constant reminders until it becomes second nature.

The fuel cap has an attachment that allows the cap to dangle when filling, but I just ripped it off, was only a plastic ball-and-socket fitting anyway, but kept the inner part of the yellow cap to prevent fuel leak. In terms of balance with the handles, the universal handle (attached when assembling) can be altered along the stem quite easily according to user preference. A bit of ingenuity and common sense goes a long way, it seems people have forgotten two-stroke applications because 4-stroke has become the norm.

No reason to post a bad review though!

The most unreliable piece of gardening machinery I've ever owned – I've owned this for a few years and have been dealing with starting issues and fuel leaks ever since getting it. I finally jump online to do some research on whether to replace or repair and I see a stream of others with the exact same issues with this model. Sounds like its time to cut this one loose and avoid Victa from here on out. Show details

Most problems are easily solved – I also had problems at first. Then I spoke with my service bloke and he put me straight! If the petrol is more than 2 weeks old, discard it and use fresh... I've had mine since 2010 and it runs really well. I put old petrol into the car, & it doesn't mind it one bit. Show details

Some Good Points and Some Bad Points – I've had my Tornado roughly 6 years. When I first bought it, I already had a Shindaiwa brush cutter, I couldn't warrant spending money on a good pole saw, so bought the Victa primarily for it's pole saw attachment. Initially it was difficult to start and difficult to keep going, but after an expert tuning job at my local mower shop, it ran - and… Read more

continues to run beautifully. The only real problem I've had with the head section was the petrol cap broke, but was replaced by my local Victa agent (at minimal cost) I haven't had any problems that other reviewers have mentioned regarding getting arms burnt by the exhaust. They must be holding it in a weird fashion!! My biggest complaint however lies with the pole saw attachment, primarily it's drive pin connection method. After previously owning a Ryobi similar product and ending up throwing it all out through bitter disappointment with it's attachment connection method, I was sure the Victa drive pin looked more robust. How wrong could I be? The pin is only made of cast alloy - 'crap metal', and is slowly but surely worn down - especially if the connection comes loose (as it surely will) I was able to buy new drive pins from the Victa agent - not a problem - but how in God's name do you remove the old one, when it's screwed on to the end of a metre long flexible shaft? No Victa, I've had better use out of my $199.00 18v Ozito pole saw - the chain bar is much shorter at 8 inch and the auxiliary handle doesn't seem to tighten, but it keeps on going..

I am not happy with this whipper snipper as I have had a lot of issues with both customer service and servicing it – I am not happy with my whipper snipper it spends more time getting fixed then I get to use it. If possible I would really like some help with what I can do so I am able to use this whipper snipper One of the worst whipper snippers that I have ever bought, it has been causing issues ever since I bought it, it’s really hard to service it and no one wants to service it. It has been very useless and it’s crap. It has cost be an absolute fortune!

Good for the price – Starting procedure a little complicated, but have no probs starting. Total crap – I bought a brand new one. Bunnings $200, used it once. Cleaned it. Packed it away. Took it out 6 days later to use. Would not start. Took it back to Bunnings. Most frustrating tool – Every time I use it, it's a frustrating experience. Reasons: it won't start so I have replace the spark plug; still it won't start If it starts, it stops suddenly. When it ran a few years back it smokes a lot ; very polluting. No instructions on how to solve simple issues. No painted instructions on the gadget on which is on/of positions for switches. Works well when it starts – When it works, it works well but you'll probably find that the whipper snipper on average takes more then 5+ to even start! I've had this machine for a few months and used fortnightly (So you can imagine it hasn't been used all that much) and I've noticed the pull cord is starting to wear as you are required to pull 5+ times from cold to start it. Other then that when you do get it to start it works well.  Show details

Don’t buy one...it’s simply awful – Recommended by Bunnings! Should never have listened as I have had nothing but trouble from this awful machine. Fuel supply issues, fuel cap issues, carburettor issues.....in the end had to go out and buy another brand. It worked for about 6 weeks and then the troubles started. Won’t start and then it’s all over. My mower service centre told me they’ve stopped servicing them because they just keep coming back.  Show details

I'm going to try for a full refund and if i cant get it ill be leaving it on the floor in store so i don't have to pay the tip fees to dump it. Total Garbage product. stopped.. tried another 30 odd pulls to start it.. nothing. Took it to a Victa repairer and they had trouble starting it also.. They pulled it all apart and said there was some blockages and replaced the spark plug and it was then starting fine. I get back home and tried again doing everything they told me to do and yep ..nothing!! Multiple attempts to start the friggin thing and then it ended up being thrown down the back yard out of incredible rage!! I jumped on and I spat on it! I would have looked like a freak to the neighbours but it drove me beyond insanity! I did everything correct! it's a god damn whipper sniper and brand new might I add.. It shouldn't have been that hard for me or anyone to start. Victa wouldn't help me direct.. they kept telling me to take it back to the repairer. The repairer fixed it three times and in the end it ended up working when it wanted too and not when I wanted it too. I packed it up and got someone else to do my lawn.. 2 years down the track I pull it out and try and again and yep nothing. - now lives at the tip.

to it falling apart. Most likely due to me being too heavy handed.

Was unsure when i first brought it with single piece of line. But consistent bumping line or replace spaghetti line on old tool was a pain in the bum.

Line is easy to change without using tools. Tip is once line is worn out slide new line underneath half way and fold then pull out old line and replace easy.

Excellent product for landfill – Couldn't hold a candle to the original victa brand where they went hand in hand with reliability.
