The worst machine I have ever bought!!! – I’ve had it for for 3 years but only used used it maybe 10 times all up. Doesn’t have any guts now when I put it full throttle. Got it repaired which cost me $250… and still doesn’t work. Wast of almost $1000 on this crap!!! Show details

Trouble free performance – This wasn't an expensive mower as far as mower prices go. Having now owned it for over 5 years I can say it's given trouble free performance for the whole time. And in those 5 years we have probably moved house 5 times or so as well! Therefore it has also dealt with different types of grass and yard size varying from nice suburban to larger rural.… Read more

Basically it's always started first go every time. Even my kids can start it (except when they try to start it without pushing the throttle lever down first hahaha).

There was an occasion when it did start to struggle to mow thick longer grass, so I got my husband to clean the filter out and that fixed the problem. During it's life time we've only had to do that twice (probably due to mowing in rather dusty areas in some places).

It has never used oil and I'm not sure if my Husband has even changed the oil more than once???

It folds down nicely to fit in the boot of my little hatchback as well, for the times we've moved house and had to go back to do a final mow for the inspection, or for taking it to mow a friends lawn while they're away etc.

I use the catcher if I have to, and it's easy to empty etc. But I do prefer to use the mulcher attachment or just simply mow without the catcher, the nutrients from the cuttings can then go back into the ground.

The adjustment of blade height is adequate and it cuts well enough to go reasonably fast and still get a good job.

So in summary this has been an easy to use and trouble free mower with little or no maintenance required. I don't find it overly noisy either. I can't really think of any negatives, probably should give it 5 stars.

Best push mow I ever had – Look I realise these Victas are discontinued but I have seen the odd one in some mower shops in tablelands and FNQ inside the past 18 months in my travels. Also quite a few have been for sale as second hand jobs. I bought mine around 5 years ago for $150. A friend had won it in a raffle and didn't need or want it as they don't have a lawn. So I… Read more

admit, the price I paid was far cheaper than brand new and I was lucky but, they're only $350 to $400 brand new anyway and are exceptional.

It starts every time within two easy pulls of the rope (which has not yet snapped - in 5 years) Haven't changed a spark plug either, it uses very little petrol despite not having a throttle down option when running. Easy height adjustment and on/ off catcher. Has not rusted despite some of the powder coating being chipped here and there ( I do hose it clean after use, which helps to neutralize the acids and tannins in the grass) I've only changed a set of blades once and this was only due to a rock (lobbed in the yard from the kids next door) which damaged one blade. You should never just replace less than all blades on a base plate style mower set up as they'll be out of balance. It only has two blades but chops well through thick grass without conking out. The wheels I think, are nylon bushed (but don't quote me on that) but they also have not worn out like the Honda ones do. It is light and easy to push and maneuver and has a Briggs and Stratton engine which has only had the oil changed once in the time I've owned it. That in itself is a pain as you have to empty the oil via the filling spout by tipping the machine upside down (no sump plug) but apparently almost all push mower engines are made tis way nowadays. So when you restart after the oil change, it blows heaps of smoke until the oil has burnt off... This is not a problem and is normal.

So if you can score a brand new one still or even find a second hand job, get it. They're Awesome push mowers you won't have any dramas with.

Victa was a great Australian name - no longer the case – I am 60 and bought this mower nearly 2 years ago because of the Victa reputation over my lifetime. I wanted a mower to save the money I was paying a contractor but it also had to be strong and reliable as I had already had one heart attack and surgery 3 years earlier and my 21 yr old daughter said she would mow my lawns. It is interesting that all… Read more

the early reviews on this mower are strongly positive but all the subsequent reviews are strongly negative. Was there a change to the manufacture? Our name can be added to the strongly negative. It was ok the first few times we used it but it progressively became harder and harder to start. I changed the spark plug, cleaned the filter, new oil, new fuel, it didn't help. Back to an authorised dealer a couple of times. Apparently there was nothing wrong with the mower. I wasn't priming it properly. Slow or fast made no difference and I can seldom feel the fuel surging through. Meanwhile I am hiring a mower to do my lawns. The guy at the hire firm got mine to work by giggling the throttle slightly to find a position that worked. I have tried that with rare success.A friend of mine has been a lifelong farmer and knows how to get things working. He found that by priming it up to 50 times he could get it to work. That wastes too much time, He thinks the primer button is faulty. His simple solution is to manually prime the mower the old fashioned way by pouring fuel directly into the carburetter. That is too messy and complicated for me to do every time. Victa has been a name Australians have been proud of for generations. Sadly no more based on all of these negative reviews.

Built tough – I've had my Victa since 2012 and it's still running. The only issue I had was the throttle cracked( a few years back) I service it myself every 2 years and always stored in the shed. Never had an issue starting it. Show details

Excellent piece of machinery – I’ve owned this mower since new for 9yrs and it has been flawless. I’ve mowed a half acre house yard with it the entire time which takes 3hrs, plus a fair amount of 2-3 foot thick long grass dozens of times just outside of my property. Even when the mower hadn’t been used for 9 months at a time due to a couple of droughts, it still started first… Read more

time after 3-4 pumps of fuel. I’ve changed the oil in it maybe 4 times and never changed the spark plug ever. The sponge air filter has been washed around 5-6 times in the washing machine. The blades have been replaced twice & I always sharpen them with an angle grinder. The only thing to ever go wrong with it was a nut & bolt fell out of the steel handle where it fixes to the casting of the mower body. Was a simple fix with a new nut & bolt. Best push mower I will ever own.

Bush remedy – I didn't have a lawn mower, so I picked up one of these on the side of the road, (for council clean up). When I had problems getting it running I found this site, mine has all the same symptom's. I managed to get it running with a cable tie (zip tie). There is a white triangular plastic piece on the front right underneath the air filter, it floats… Read more

Catcherrubbish – Mower its self is good does everything it should. My problem is the cloth catcher, when half full scrapes on ground making mower hard to push. Why on earth would they use crappy material to make a catcher? Wont make that mistake again. Shame really has left a sour taste in my mouth  Show details

My mower is 16 years old. I have replaced the blades a number of times and services the fuel system myself. Starts with one pull of the cord. Sometimes has reduced power on wet or thick grass but overall this was a great buy and I am sorry that it has been discontinued.I mow flat grassed area. Full mow with three refills of fuel. How to resolve some issues – Mower won't start or run evenly: can be the cut out wobble plate on the accelerator cable near the carb. Straighten the tip of the wire and pull the wire out by pushing the plate back. You can keep the wire handy by clipping it into moulding holes at the top of the plastic cover near the air filter. You can switch off the mower by touch the wire… Read more

on the accelerator cable bracket or simply stalling the engine. Or fit a on/off switch. Plug replacement: Champion RC12YC for mine, using a 16mm deep six sided socket. Very gently fasten and check for blow past now and again. Air filter: Check regularly and replace. Washing works if the budget is tight. Handle mounting brackets: Clean and fill the voids in the underside of the brackets with sealer to prevent rust. See other suggestions in this forum. The is a weakness in their design.

I have been waiting 18 years for the perfect mower for women,FOUND IT!! – I’m a 59 year old woman so needed a no fuss mower. Easy to follow instructions. Easy to fill fuel and oil. Nothing complicated about this mower. Sturdy. So very easy to push even in long grass (1/2metre high). Have a 1/4 acre suburban block, mostly grass. Owned ours for 17 years – the front axle bearings wore out, and i had to repair the base plate as the axle wore into it. I recently sold it and bought a masport 645 series 19, ( there's no new victa's available in the little town where we live now. Keep the air filter clean and changed the oil regularly, no problems. Show details

a workhorse! – Mows and cuts great. only draw back i find is that when you go to change the oil once a year, it has no drain plug and requires great difficulty in drawing the old oil. Has not missed a bead in 6 years. Still has original spark plug. Have replaced the blades only once in 6 years, the factory blades were very good quality  Show details

Great Mower – Great mower cuts well, starts every time with one or two pulls. I have owned the mower for about 7 years now with only one issue a Snapped pull cord. Easy to fix I tied it back together still works a treat. Uses just about no oil, and as for maintenance haven’t to touch a thing. Recommend this product with a thumbs up.  Show details

Strange about the bad reviews – Admittedly there are poor elements to the design.. replacing the oil requires suction, the fuel cap could be more easily accessible. Turning the mower on it's side to clean it will cause the oil to run out the exhaust ports / muffler making for a long cleanup process. Having said that.. I've gone through two spark plugs, replacement wheel,… Read more

replacement throttle controller, 3 sets of blades and a few oil changes and the thing continues to service me (and two of my neighbours) after being purchased 5 years ago.

Can't complain about that.

Just learned about the supa catcher (side ejector for $30); wish I would have bought that from the start.. that's how I found all these reviews.

Useless fixation of handles to body which is too thin and breaks out in no time if a catcher is used – Second one in 2 years which has broken around handle fixation because mower body is too thin around fixation and only one hole through Handle and body means it is immediately starting to work towards breaking the body open due to the can-opener action, especially if catcher is used. Attaching a 3 mm thick plate under this handlefixation would… Read more

solve this problem if also two bolts were used in each arm instead of just the one in the middle which tends to cause rocking motion and hence rips the body away around the handle.

Otherwise mower is not bad value for its price, but this weakness in design lets it down big time

Fantastic Mower, Cant complain! – I have read a lot of negative reviews on this model but mine runs like a dream. Will not start after standing unused for 1 week – This victa is supposed to be a rapid start vcs464. It is advertised as only requiring 3 pumps of the primer. Junk Junk Junk – It just so happens that I've got a spare 30 minutes to write this review. Thanks to Victa as this lawn mower overheats at least 3 times during my once a week mow taking the time spent on my old mover of 1 hour to a lazy 3. A short life – Bought the Victa Vantage 149 cc mower brand new in October 2011 from Bunnings . It worked well , but 2 weeks ago it was hard to start and then just died , The Mower was was only used for a small lawn , well looked after and stored in a shed , when not in use . Lawn mower shop told me it would cost $350 to repair . I cut my loses on it and purchased a different brand .
