A reasonable ok small car – In mid-2018, my wife bought a VW Golf Comfortline 110 Tsi with 1.4 L turbo petrol engine and 7 speed DSG for her commuting to work and weekend shopping or socialising. I occasionally share the driving as well. In general the car has been performing reasonably well and to date (mid 2022) has done 40k Km, partially thanks to the Covid resulting in… Read more
my wife working from home since last year. The motor has presented no issue since new, starts with the first turn of the key, it is fairly quiet and powerful enough for both of us, ditto with the DSG gear box which has also been sweet and changed gears quickly/smoothly, very similar to the conventional torque convertor auto gear box. Both the motor and the transmission presented no problem so far. Overall, the car is zippy around town, the ride comfort is above average, handing and steering is good particularly cornering, and fuel consumption is very acceptable, around 7 lit/100km on average. Please note we don't do long drive with the Golf, so it's very much a town figure. On the negative side, the GPS is unimpressed and my wife complained about the menu and missing cities when entering the search input for new destinations. The car was serviced annually at a VW dealer for the first three years which is the warranty period, and the fourth by Stellar Mobile Mechanics who charged only half of the price of VW dealer. One issue with the car was the malfunction of the font passenger door locking mechanism (or the software) which prevented the door open when the other four doors are open. Even though the car's warranty is still valid, VW Australia refused the fixing unless we pay $250. Of course we didn't go ahead with this riff-off. Recently, when Richard Brown of Stella Mobile Services did a log book service, he reset the computer and greased the door lock, the issue was fixed at no cost to us. I don't hesitate to recommend Stellar Mobile Services to anyone requiring a service by an honest mechanics. And the price is half of what VW dealers charged us in the previous services. Worse still, I don't know what the VW dealers did to our cars. We intend to keep the Golf for another year or two before a new car update which could be an EV if these become more affordable.
Dont buy a VW! you will regret it – VW golf's are so nice to drive. Quiet, comfortable and fuel efficient but also unreliable and no support from VW Australia... My VW golf has let me down twice. First time was at 50,000kms and 6 months out of warranty. A bolt came loose on the cam shaft and rubbed against timing cover apparently not a manufacturing issue. I had to pay.... Now I am… Read more
off the road again at 60,000kms with a fuel leak and not starting. Please I implore you the product is not great but the support from VW Australia is the worst... AVOID!!
Great car to drive - Just be mindful of Dsg issues – I owned my 2018 Golf comfortline 110 Tsi Dsg from new (Sep18-Nov21). It was a great car to drive the 1.4 engine is a great all rounder! It was quiet and comfortable with good fuel economy. Everyone always was surprised how roomy it was inside, it had great visibility and felt very well built. In July 2019 at 34,000kms I did experience clutch… Read more
slipping, Vw replaced the gearbox under warranty. All was running well till May 2021 when I started to experience the gearbox “chirping” between gear changes. Vw did a software update for me which did help but was a Band-Aid fix.
I really loved this car and was sad to see it go! Traded it in Nov21, 2 months after 3 year warranty ran out. Maybe I’m Vw crazy as I purchased another golf a My21 Mk8 Gti, let’s hope I have a good run with it.
Unreliable car – Purchasing MY19 Volkswagen Gold 110TSi Comfortline 7sq DSG Hatch on the 18th of December 2019 has caused me nothing but distress and concern. The issue began on the 16th of November when my car got tolled to Berwick Volkswagen due to “gearbox in emergency mode, no reverse gear” causing my car to immediately stop working and get to a complete stop.… Read more
Hence forward, Berwick Volkswagen servicing team diagnosed my car within a week to conclude that my whole transmission is broken and will need a full replacement. However, I have been told there is a waiting period until my part comes from Germany. As Germany Volkswagen does not have any 2019 Golf transmissions available, and that I will have to wait for the next available one. Unfortunately, the team at Berwick cannot give me an estimated date because they are “unaware” of when the part will be available and when it will arrive in Australia. This is not good enough and beyond unprofessional. Therefore, to Volkswagen Australia, I am so disappointed to hear that you are not abiding by the Australian consumer laws. I have chosen Volkswagen with the peace of mind that if something goes wrong you will look after your customers. I cannot believe a company with your reputation and history will not honour their warranty agreements which clearly state that if there is a major fault you will replace my car for a new one or give me a refund. It clearly states that I am fully entitled to choose my remedy if it’s a major fault. To all definitions and all scenarios, my transmission fault is indeed a major fault. How can I even drive my car now knowing that my transmission and steering could fail me at any time. I already suffer from great stress and anxiety on a daily basis. I particularly chose to purchase your car with its top safety features for such reasons and for great peace of mind. I will not accept this car anymore, I will not put myself through this much of stress and anxiety once again. I have lost all and any faith in your company, I will never buy another car from you if my car isn't replaced, I don't feel safe and I don't believe that the repairs will be something that I can put my trust in going forward. I have done my research and contacted angry customers from your Facebook page regarding their Volkswagen cars and their issues. All have stated that they have had experienced horrible customer service, lengthy procedures and multiple repairs faults. Therefore, as Suzanne from head office suggested, I have every right to contest my rights and as a customer under Australian consumer law I WILL! Before that I will also ensure that every google review and every product review will hear of the atrocious customer service I received from Volkswagen.
Perfect, high milage car – Had this baby for about two years now. Had a prang and panel easily fixed by the beater. Great for roadtrips, a full tank I can get over 1,000km of highway driving. Cons: Only negative is it takes 95 fuel. Service through dealer kind of expensive but can use any other centre for decent price Show details
Servicing intervals – I’m an old bloke. Use my My 7.5 110tsi golf regularly and am pedantic about regular servicing. Am I not reading the book correctly? There doesn’t appear to be advice on when to change fluids like brake and coolant, and I can’t find when the timing belt should be replaced. VW advise to have the timing belt replaced at recommended interval. What… Read more
are the recommended intervals? Does anyone know? I think it’s naughty of VW not to give this info. A timing belt failure for example, can have catastrophic results.
Comfortable car – This is my second VW golf. I traded in my old VW golf when the odometer read 220,000 kms. The car is very comfortable to drive and I feel the car is safe as well. Good size for me. I have trouble finding just the right size for me with other brands. Went test driving Merc B series, Volvo V40 but still liked golf the best. Show details
Great car - Issues with DSG though (again!) – Excellent size car, lots of space. Drives and handles really well. Some plastic parts eg vents can break easily. Very comfortable seats and good vision. Fuel consumption averages about 7L/100kms. 3.5?stars - would be 5 if not for DSG issues. 2nd DSG failure in 14 months. This is not acceptable for a car less than 4 years old. I loved this car but just can’t recommend it anymore unless money is no object. Show details
Excellent little car – Bigger than it looks, spacious, comfortable to drive in and very responsive. This is my second Golf and it has out performed the previous 2016 model so far. Good design and is an excellent car. Show details
Brilliant car - great perceived quality – After 9 years with Tiguan TSI, it was time to upgrade/downgrade to a Golf. We were happy with the Tiguan, but didnt need the AWD and wanted something more economical. The Golf is practical, fuel efficient, safe, quick, comfortable and a great perceived quality (everything just feels good quality). And when it comes with 5 years warranty, it just… Read more
sealed the deal for us. The service cost is more than a Toyota Corolla, but at least we do not need to visit the service centre every 10,000km
Great small car – looks professional, smart and trended. great performance with a turbo engine and fuel-saving stop-start technology. the most important, it has 5 stars safety rating. you can feel the difference from the Korean car by closing the doors. Show details
My first German vehicle and I’m VERY impressed – I have a Trendline Manual with Driver Assist Package. If I could get a manual further up the range I would have gone with that. The driver assist packages adds so much for such a small outlay and greatly improves the driving experience with all the technology it adds. Compared to other hatchbacks in its class, the Gold was much more refined… Read more
drive and all the touch points in the vehicle felt better than a Japanese or Korean made vehicle.
It is my daily driver to work and play and I do about 1,000km a month. I am easily able to achieve 6.0L per 100km in sedate city driving and on a flat freeway that drops into the high 4.0s easily. It has just passed 4,000km and i’m about a quarter into my fifth tank of fuel. It is hugely economical.
The engine feels powerful and punchy combined with the ability to choose extra driving modes from the assist package, I have never once felt it being under powered.
The interior space is great in the front and rear for passengers and the seats fold flat revealing a huge cargo area.
I definitely recommend the Golf if you are looking for a hatch.
LOVE GOLF! Quality car – Recently purchased my first golf brand new and i absolutely love it! I was looking for a good quality nice European car that was reliable and this car is fantastic! Great price for an upper class car! Purchased in Sydney because i couldn't get one in Melbourne for the same price Show details

BEST CAR IN THE WORLD – I purchased my brand new golf in Nov 2016! It’s the best car I have ever driven! I’m so inlove with it. It got the extra pack where it has lane assist which stops you from driving outside the lines on the highway. It can reverse parallel park itself!!!! It has sensors all around the car so you literally can’t run into anything, even if you tried… Read more
the car will stop. It has a very good reverse camera, apple car play is amazing as well because Siri will read out your text messages and you can reply back just by talking back to Siri. The only down side to my golf is the colour! Don’t get white, i have to wash it once a week and for someone that did have a charcoal coloured car before hand and never had to wash it! It sucks I wish I got charcoal again but other than that it’s the best and very smooth to drive.
Awesome drive - amazing technology – I never thought I'd buy a Volkswagen until I saw an offer of 1.7% interest. I like to change my cars every couple of years because I travel around 35000 kms per year. I decided to buy the Golf because of the low interest rate and because I knew it would be under warranty for the duration that I have it. The engine is brilliant. The turbo 1.4L… Read more
takes off quickly from the lights and is very fuel efficient. On a recent trip from Sydney to Port Macquarie I was able to travel up and back on a single tank of fuel. This was just over 800 kms which was VERY IMPRESSIVE and I'm not a light foot when I drive either. Unfortunately I had an accident on the way up. I was in heavy traffic and a car drove into the back of me. The force of the hit pushed me forward however the autonomous emergency breaking stopped me from hitting the car in front of me. When you're hit in the back your foot comes off the break because of the force you're being hit with. The car is almost finished being repaired and we weren't hurt.
Other technology includes radar cruise control with breaking and acceleration. It is a weird feeling to let the car accelerate and break for you when the cruise control is one especially when the car in front comes to a complete stop. The large touch screen is easy to use and has many many features including a performance mode which tells you the power you are using in kilowatts and how much g-force you are experiencing. The satellite navigation works well. I didn't realise how popular Golfs are. I'm loving this one, have had it for 4 months and have travelled 8000 km's.
Perfect for city driving – Zippy second car with enough room to seat the family (2 + 2) comfortably and get around town. We added the Driver Assist pack (auto reverse parking, adaptive cruise control, lane assist) which we find really useful, particularly the adaptive cruise control in peak hour traffic. Love the media system with its large touch screen and apple carplay. Show details
Great car for the price – Great of the mark from a standstill, fantastic fuel economy actually exceeds the quoted figure. Surprisingly roomy for a small car can fit medium sized adults in the back comfortably. Minor negatives no lumbar adjustment in seats and no where to put sunglasses. Cant complain for $24990 for base model. Show details
Never have I been so impressed with a small car – Wow, that just about summarises my feeling of my new Golf 7.5 110TSI Comfortline! I am big into safety and having selected the drivers assistance package ($1500 well spent) I can say this car is one of the best on the market for it. Not only does it have your standard nice to have features (blind spot montitoring, adaptive cruise control,… Read more
emergency braking) it also has a technology called lane assist which blows my mind, it literally keeps the car within the lanes should you drift out.
This car also has plenty of performance and using only 5.4 litres per 100km of fuel it has saved me stupid amounts on fuel.
I could go on and on but there is simply to much to list! Suffice to say golf is the only car for me from here on out!
Incredible value for money – Quick, quiet, smooth, economical and drives like a car twice it's price. Quality build. Paint work is fantastic. Trendline has a few extras over the base model. Android auto works well. The car is roomy and the components feel like they will last. 7 speed DSG shifts smoothly and S mode provides a more spirited drive. Very happy with the car overall. I can't think of anything negative although it is early days. Show details
