Brilliant Dryer – We bought this dryer around 2008 from memory. It stopped around 2018, and because this dryer was so good, I decided to fix it myself. I was told that it was probably the capacitor. Simple job to replace the capacitor which cost $40. Worked perfectly until Sept. 2022 and then last week the belt failed. I bought a new belt on EBay for $18 and after… Read more

watching a YouTube video changed it over myself and it’s running great again. The appliance (once cleaned) looks like new again. I wonder how many people just throw them out when they are quite simple to repair for an average handyman … took less than two hours in total to get the belt changed over and clean up the machine. So happy with this appliance, and expect another 10 years from it …

An absolute trooper – Absolutely no complaints with this dryer. It is the floor demo from a store that was closing down approximately 12 or more years ago and was heavily discounted. It has coped with a long car drive on its side to get it home, 4 house moves (two interstate), and spent a year with an underwire stuck in it which made the most disturbing sounds,… Read more

dries pretty much every day of the year, and yet, it is still going strong. It has no problem with delicates, it has no problem with towels and (small) blankets, and has no problem with absolutely anything in between.

The only problem it now has is a small break in the plastic around where the door fits into the body of the machine - and I did that by tugging too hard at a hoodie's metal drawstring end that had got caught there. A second's extra care, and it would still be as perfect as the day I bought it.

My one regret with it is that I wish I had got a larger version so I could dry the big blankets and doonas, but that is not the fault of the appliance.

This has been, hands down, the most reliable appliance I have ever owned.

Best electrical item I have ever bought – 15 years it has been going. Used every other day for family of 5. Usaully use 60 mins on normal dry. No mechanical issues ever. Will definately buy westinghouse dryer again. Show details

Demo model lasted 12 years! – We bought this demo model dryer in 2008 cheap and we have barely had an issue. Over the last year (mid-2019 to mid 2020) the On-Off button became a little sticky and a bit of tape solved that issue. the last few weeks the clothes havent been fully drying and need a second run. I think the sensor has slowly gone faulty. the dryer has worked well… Read more

for all types of clothing, We looked after it well and kept the lint filter clean. For a cheap model dryer it has worked well. Rather than get it repaired we will likely send it to retirement opt for a more energy efficient model.

add in an edit for 2024, this thing is still going well.

Great Dryer - Lasted 10 years – This dryer started blowing smoke recently. When taking it apart everything looked pristine apart from a burnt smell which is I suspect is the motor. A motor on eBay is $155 and a new dryer is about $500. Considering I did get 10 years out of it, I'm considering just replacing it. If I was to buy a new motor doesn't anyone know what other components I should replace at this point in its life. Would rather do it all at once. Show details

Great for occasional use. Would be better it vented externally – Used about once a week. Works very well. It would be better if it was vented outside as at the moment you need to open room windows when its in use to avoid a damp smell. The Crease Free setting works very well. After almost 9 years, recently the drum stopped moving. We opened it up and found the drum drive belt had worn out. Bought the same model belt off ebay for $12 and it was a simple replacement and fix.  Show details

Perfect – I got this dryer second hand from someone who hardly used it. I must say it's perfect and dries cloths perfectly compared to my 2 Electrolux dryers i've had in the past. It is sad they stopped making them. I'm just hoping parts will still be available for this model.  Show details

Still going strong after 8 years – This dryer has been great, the sensor works well if set to the extra dry setting, and clothes dry fast. It does tend to shrink and fade more delicate items of clothing but sheets, towels, blankets etc are dried well in this machine. It actually fell off the wall a few years ago (was incorrectly mounted) and despite being dented it still works… Read more

without problem. I'm now looking to upgrade to a heat pump dryer for more delicate and economical drying but will still keep this one for drying bedding loads faster etc.

Absolutely love this dryer! – I bought my Westinghouse 5kg dryer in 2008 and I have literally used it every day since then. I have had no issues what so ever with it, I would highly recommend it if it wasn't discontinued. I'm only searching dryer reviews today because as much as I don't want to buy a new dryer I need to buy a wall mountable one for my new house. This dryer did… Read more ·  1

come with a wall mountable kit which was super handy. My sister bought the same dryer a year before I did and she mounted hers with no issues. The button sticker replacement for when its wall mounted is clever. However over the years of moving house multiple times I have lost the wall mounting attachments and replacement button sticker. I'm absolutely devastated. I really would prefer to keep my Westinghouse dryer :(

Part melted - don't turn your dryer on and go out warning – My Westinghouse LD505E dryer caused my smoke alarm to go off (there was real smoke) when part of it melted! All of the lights were still on and the dryer had eventually stopped but not before I had to ring the fire brigade to come and investigate the source of the acrid smoke. Up until that point I loved the dryer but am now considering an alternative brand to replace it.

Dead – Mine just died too :-( Has been a good dryer, not worth fixing, would probably be too expensive, think it burnt out, had a funny smell coming from it. Now to buy another always a hard decision. This has been deleted not sure how long we have had it, does not feel like that many years but probably longer than we think.

Doesn't dry completely – Have had this dryer for a few years based on scoring well in a Choice review. Have been disappointed from the start with the drying performance. The dryer constantly leaves whatever is in it damp, irrespective of the drying cycle chosen. Not sure if it has to do with outside air temp affecting the sensors ( we live in southern Tasmania, so it's… Read more

cold). Frustration that the "extra dry" cycle is the last to select.

Lint filter dumps lint into drum and onto floor, needs 6 button presses to get to the extra dry option, bad drying performance
