Door hinge is flawed – It has been a great fridge up until the door started to make a clunk noise. Then all of a sudden the noise got worse until it wouldnt close itself properly. On inspection, the area of the door just above the lower hinge has cracked/dropped and little bits of plastic are falling out. Sounds like it cannot be repaired due to all these other comments on here. Show details

Great family size fridge – We love our fridge. We have had it about 8 years and it is still going great. It's whisper quiet, has even cooling so doesn't freeze things at the back. F&V compartments are easy to use and remove and the whole thing is easy to clean. I like the separate cheese drawer under the top shelf. Happy with this purchase.
can't live without this one – best fridge I ever had, sorry that I have to sell it as it is 5 cm to wide for my new place. had a thermostat replaced at one stage but that was done quick and easy. it has not turned me off buying another Westinghouse. its been perfect for me. reliable, energy efficient, easy to organise everything inside, the blue lights had the thermostat… Read more
exchanged but that was done quick and easy on warranty. can happen to anything you buy, doesn't mean that it is a bad product. had a westinghouse before and it lasted me 25 years.
Great Reliable – No problems after 6 years of use. has performed ok ever since we got it, the retailer has since closed but the fridge is still working fine. never needed any service visits, broke one butter cover by closing door with lid open but it still works fine without it. great fridge. Nice and big was able to turn of seperate freezer Show 3 replies

Again another Door failure – Purchased in 2005, $1400. As with other reviews the refrigerator performs Ok but the door !!!!! The bottom door is of such poor plastic/metal strength that in the hinge pivot area (bottom right) the door began to splinter, shatter and loosen. Put a metal support underneath but after 6 months the door continued to crumble. Absolute rubbish quality control. I donate money to charities but never again will I donate to Westinghouse/Electrolux. Show details
Rubbish – what a heap of rubbish the doors fell off the shelves cracked- junk is the only words to describe this poorly designed inferior inept shoddy junk, thin walled poorly enginered excuse. Show details
Door does not close fully – Door does not close fully. Called service and told we need a new fridge. I lifted the door with my foot and inserted a 2-3mm hard plastic round ring/grommet. Door now closes on its own without us continuously checking or pushing it shut. Why don't Westinghouse repairer/s have a simple solution like this rather than charging a service call and… Read more
telling customers they need to buy a new fridge ... well, because of this, when it comes time to replace - it won't be a Westinghouse.

works beautifully and has done for 12 years – BUT. the bottom hinge attachment to the door is under engineered garbage. Luckily I'm handy because twice now I've had to pack up inside the door where the hinge plate simply pushes up into the foam until the door lowers itself onto the hinge bracket and doesn't want to open and shut correctly. It also then falls down on the top diagonal until… Read more
the door doesn't cover the opening to seal the fridge. It's a real shame because as a fridge it works like a charm and if this problem was fixed it'd rate a 5. I believe Westinghouse won't admit to (ie won't spend money on a fix) the problem
16 years old. Still good as new – This is our second Westinghouse RJ522V. Bought our first one 17 years ago then sold our house and the buyer wanted to keep the fridge .... it fitted, she needed a new one, saved moving it....so I bought another one the same. It's been perfect. We just bought a new fridge with ice and water dispenser so the Westinghouse is now our second backup fridge. Nothing has broken, it works like a dream and after a full deep clean it looks like new. Show details
Fridge door sagging – our electrolux fridge has sunk and has to be manually closed.I have replaced the plastic thimble on the bottom of fridge door but still door does not completely close.I have been informed by fridge repairer that bottom of door has collapsed and it requires a new door but a door is not longer available. It appears its a common problem. The fridge works well apart from door not closing properly. Its look like getting another fridge is only solution Show details

Another Door failure this time resulting in an injury – Fridge has performed well but door fell off today in my hand injuring my wrist. Now I find I can't buy a replacement door or hinge. Poor show. I will never buy another Westinghouse product if this is the way they perform. Show details
Another door hinge fault – We bought our Westinghouse RJ522V fridge back in 2004 and it has been trouble free until now. I noticed recently the door has dropped and upon further investigation the plastic panel at the bottom of the fridge compartment door has collapsed at the hinge pivot. After reading all the reviews about these doors falling off and injuring people I'm not… Read more
going to wait around for it to happen. I'll be shopping for a new fridge and it won't be another Westinghouse or any other brand owned and/or made by Electrolux. Very poor design. Electrolux is so lucky no one has been seriously injured or killed yet.
Will it take a death to occur before they will accept responsibility for their defective design? I sincerely hope not!
Shoddy Design and Workmanship – We purchased this fridge in 2004 originally with a 5 year extended warranty which was just as well as the main door was replaced TWICE due the well documented hinge issue in the first 5 years. A year after warranty expired the controller PCB failed ($200+) and the plastic dairy doors have been replaced at least a half a dozen times because at… Read more
appalling design issue that causes them to crack if they are left when the main door auto-closes. The unit has limped (or sagged more appropriately) with door breaking again after another 3 years, compromising the seal on the main cabinet. This week the PCB controlled failed again frying the Display PCB in the freezer door. Time to get another Fridge, but NEVER another Westinghouse. Frankly I'm not surprised Electrolux moved their manufacture offshore because these Australian designed and manufactured Westinghouse units were total lemons.

Door Hinge Again – We have had this fridge about 2008 has never missed a beat except for the bottom main door hinge failing soon out of warranty. To see so many door hing problems (some pretty major) is quite appalling on the part of Westinghouse. I managed to doge up a fix so our door never actually fell off but it never seals properly and over time probably cost extra to run. Shame another quality brand has fallen through. Show details
Alarm won't stop, ignored by customercare@electrolux.com.au – Fridge was fine until six days ago, when it started flashing displaying ERR with code SC on the freezer side. Every couple of hours a piercing audible alarm goes off and has to be manually reset. It runs all night and wakes our baby. The fridge and freezer are still at temperature so I have no idea what this alarm means or whether to call out a… Read more

Worst or all, I emailed customercare@electrolux.com.au right away to ask what the error code meant and they've just ignored it. Obviously their social team is all over online complaints, but unless there's reputational damage they just ignore customer requests for service.
Pretty unfortunate customer service behavior in 2018. Anyway, I'll never be buying another Electrolux, Westinghouse, Frigidaire or AEG product of any kind - avoid all the Electrolux brands.
Great Aussie Brand - Poor After Sales Service and Disappointing Quality – Purchased in 2004. Within 18 months compressor failed. Replaced compressor at our expense. Since then lower door hinge failed which caused door to drop and not able to provide an effective seal. Very poor design which should have been resolved after so many years of manufacturing fridges.. Westinghouse (Electrolux) offered to assist with repair… Read more
cost however once i procured a quote for replacement of door and lower hinge (at what i thought was a quite reasonable $300), Electrolux refused to follow up on their offer.
Extremely disappointed with this company.. We will never buy from them again.
Freezer and fridge doors have fallen off twice and last time I called Westinghouse the service was t – Westinghouse fridge nearly injured my children twice now with doors falling off... once I was the one to have the doors fall on me and last night my wife... the children were so close BOTH TIMES. Last time this happened Westinghouse would not assist and I had to purchase the fitting to hinge both doors myself at my cost (better to be done quickly without injury to my children). I will never purchase Westinghouse again. Show details

Another faulty hinge and ripped off by call out fee!!! – For the past few months we have had a sagging door and a broken hinge. This misaligned door now fails to close without force. We now feel after reading these reviews that we had been blindsided today - especially after being told… Read more
that it was our fault for opening it too far! We have been totally ripped off in having to pay the FULL service fee for absolutely NOTHING to fix our problem! Nor to mention Westinghouse’s obvious lack of responsibility for this design fault! Westinghouse RJ522V-R fridge door problems – Got the same door problem... lower hinge and door falls off, As can be seen by all the responses on this web site It's a design fault. Door design fault – I put it to Westinghouse, given that the bottom hinge on the main door is a design fault, recall the fridge before a child is killed at your doing. Seems like the door falls off. Fridge Freezer works well. FAULTY Door hinge lets the model & Westinghouse down – Like ALL the other reviews on this fridge freezer. A fridge freezer that works exceptionally well. The only thing that lets the model down is a door hinge manufacturing fault at the bottom of the fridge door. Sadly this fault tarnishes the name of Westinghouse for such a minor thing which can cause such a problem. Show details
Faulty Door Hinge – Had to replace the door about four years ago because it dropped and would not seal. It wasn't possible to replace the hinge because the door is one complete unit so we had to buy a new door at a cost of $600 - all for a tiny part. Now the door has dropped again - all because of this design fault. It will be better for us to buy a new fridge. Show details

Prior to the hinge failure we were very happy with the Fridge.
Maybe they've just given up on the product or they've given up trying to keep their customers happy.
As such, I now need to buy a replacement fridge and I have serious concerns about going with Westinghouse again.
Door hinge design fault – My fridge has had a lower hinge design fault from it's warrantee period. The fridge itself had worked well until the door sagged at the lower hinge, causing a poor seal, within the warrantee period and the whole door was replaced. I do not place anything other than butter/margarine and a water bottle in the door due to this fault and within… Read more
another 4 years collapsed again with a bill of over $300 for the door replacement. Now the same thing is happening.
If Westinghouse fridges are otherwise good why use such an inferior hinge that could prove extremely dangerous if the door would fall off due to a faulty hinge.
Surely a change of design is needed
I will not recommend or purchase another Westinghouse fridge if the hinge design is the same.
My previous fridge lasted 20 years.
Except for the faulty door hinge this RJ522V is a reasonable fridge – Yes our fridge is over 10 years old and served us well. But just like many other owners of this RJ522V fridge the bottom hinge eventually disintergrates due to the lack of mechanical support. It is disappointing that the good brand name of Westinghouse is being tarnished by this design fault. Mechanically the fridge is working fine- I will need… Read more

Pretty terrible product – My beer fridge which this fridge replaced is over 20 years old and still works well. The new fridge is about 5 years old and has had the bottom hinge support (plastic for heavens sake) fall apart so the door sagged drastically. The electronic controller on the front of the freezer door alarms often and seemingly randomly. All up, a pretty disapointing run with this fridge. I won't be buying a Westinghouse fridge again.
Expected more – I was happy with this fridge for the first 5 years and the it started to unravel with what seems like similar door hinge problems. I think we caught it in time and the plastic didn't break but the door was sagging so much that it wasn't making the seal, hence the fridge wasn't cold. Clearly a design fault. However we fixed it aboit 18 months ago.… Read more
I have not noticed at times that my fruit and vegetable compartments are frozen and ruin them, and now the fridge is not cold at all. I thought we had not closed it properly but it is not that. I have thrown out out all my food now and waiting for a technician to look at it, I am expecting to be quoted a large cost to fix. I expect a fridge made by Westinghouse and used under normal circumstances to last 15 years at a minimum with no problems. My parents had one that lasted 35 years with 1 call out towards the end. Pretty disappointed.
Dangerous. A ticking time bomb just waiting to maim or kill someone. NO MANUFACTURER RESPONSIBILIT – I purchased this fridge and was completely happy with it, just having the usual service of replacing door seals after a few years. It ran wonderfully for many years and I could anticipate many more years usage in the life of the fridge. UNTIL - My 14yo daughter opened the fridge door and the door snapped off and FELL ON TOP OF HER, KNOCKING HER… Read more
TO THE GROUND. 2 seconds later, as she lay their covered in broken glass and the liquids from the broken bottles and jars AND the fridge door, which landed on her leg, THE FREEZER DOOR SMASHED TO THE GROUND. Had she been a toddler, this would have KILLED HER. Imagine a freezer door snapping off from about 2 meters height and plummeting to the ground and landing on a toddler's head, let alone a toddler having a full fridge door snap off and land on top of them, covering them in shattered glass. My daughter spent the entire day in shock and it took her a few days to recover - the impact was similar to being involved in a car accident. When I contacted Westinghouse/Electrolux, they indicated that this was MOST UNUSUAL, as if it was the first they had ever heard of a problem like this. It was then, that I googled "Westinghouse fridge door" and page after page of complaints for the exact same problem came up. This is OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN FAULT that the manufacturer HAS BEEN AWARE OF FOR YEARS. The manufacturer has been aware that they are responsible for a product that has serious and dangerous design faults. A few days later, I was contacted by their repair technicians who advised that they would charge $145 and all cost of labor and repairs would be additional at my expense (I refused the botch-job repair.) My daughter had an Xray and ultrasound on her shin bone where the fridge door fell on her, as a large and unusually shaped lump had formed on her shin bone and both we, and the hospital staff, were concerned that there may be a small breakage to the bone. (Fortunately there was none.) I contacted the ACCC to file a complaint. I was then contacted by the ACCC, who then asked me to forward photographs of the fridge/freezer door, which I did, and I have since been contacted AGAIN by the ACCC to give permission for the case to move forward with the evidence that I provided. Westinghouse/Electrolux have accepted NO RESPONSIBILITY. I bought a fridge that was a ticking time bomb. Having had a house full of small children and also elderly (88 & 86yo) parents, it is incredibly disturbing that this entire time THEY WERE AT RISK of being injured, maimed or killed at any time, by the negligence and refusal of Westinghouse/Electrolux to recall this fridge. I believe that this fridge and ALL fridges manufactured with this known design fault should be recalled and all consumers be refunded for being duped by the manufacturer for unknowingly purchasing a product in good faith from Westinghouse/Electrolux, and in turn, being deceived. THIS IS A COVER-UP. CONSUMER SAFETY HAS BEEN IGNORED FOR YEARS AND THE CONSUMER HAS BEEN KNOWINGLY MISLED AND EXPOSED TO DANGER BY WESTINGHOUSE/ELECTROLUX.

westing house virtuoso dor problems – We love our fridge freezer and have had for 8 years but over last couple of months small plastic bits holding door shelves have broken off meaning that there are no shelves for storing milk etc. As its discontinued and 8 years old it's not worth spending 500 for new door.
Westinghouse or Westinghinge ? – Given the complaints from many people that actually took the trouble to warn others, its surprising no one contacted the ACCC. There appears to be a clearcut case for the ACCC to get involved. Just look on the website . . . . . Entire door has to be replaced when a small piece of plastic cracks – Our fridge is in excellent condition and we liked it ... until we discovered the design fault in its door assembly, as clearly so many other buyers have (see other posts below that exactly describe the problem). A 4cm piece of plastic is critical to the entire door function, and when it inevitably cracks, it has to be replaced (technician… Read more
call-out fee $145) - except that the part isn't available so you have to have a whole new door fitted.
The technician said the reasons could be: a) items stored in the door are too heavy, although no recommended weight/capacity is given; b) the fridge is "over-used", which is silly, as we're a household of just three adults; or c) the door has been opened too wide, which is impossible in our case as the opening is restricted by the fridge cavity.
I'd say a piece of plastic is inadequate to the task. But will Westinghouse/Electrolux admit it, as their technician did? Currently a new door is on order but is it worth more than $400 for this repair to a fridge that's now discontinued? Perhaps we should return to Fisher & Paykel, as our previous one ran like a dream. Awaiting a response from Electrolux on this...

Faulty door – The hinge at the base of the door has broken. This is clearly a design fault, as these things are supposed to last well beyond the warranty period. It seems to be a common problem. Not sure if the poor door design is the reason this product has been discontinued by Westinghouse. AMD
Definate hinge design fault – As others have stated, the lower door hinge is absolute crap. Disgusting for an Australian made product. The bottom of the hinge is quite well made, thick metal pressing & a solid hinge pin. it's the door part that is rubbish.
