Freezer handle woes – We have had this fridge for 5 years. We have been happy until yesterday when the freezer door handle came off with the mount kit broken. Cannot find a replacement apart from buying a complete handle set. This is not an option. Surely the plastic mount must be available somewhere. Show details

Freezer door handle design flaw – Like the other reviews below, the freezer door handle comes off after several years. And Westinghouse asked me to buy entire 3 door handles at $500 just to replace once small plastic clip? I will say it's a cheap brand that cuts corner.

Best fridge I have ever owned – After a disastrous experience with my last Samsung fridge I purchased this one about 5 months ago. It is so practical. I was a bit unsure about the freezer drawers at first but they are excellent and hold so much. The humidity control on the crisper keeps fruit and veg so much longer and the wide open shelves in the fridge compartment hold everything I have thrown at it including a whole baked leg of ham and turkey over Christmas.  Show details

Westinghouse French Door Fridge/Freezer - WHE5204BC - Deceptively big on capacity! – We bought this fridge to replace our Westinghouse that broke down after only 8 years. This one is the newer model of the one we had. It's a tad smaller size but has a much better internal design, allowing for more space to be filled. We really do like it, despite the few 'cons' below, which aren't really bothersome. Pros: Overall size, colour… Read more

(dark grey) doesn't show finger marks, great internal space, very cold internal temperature, anti-spill shelves, adjustable shelving that allows for lots more in-door storage, and a great freezer section broken into 3 compartments plus ice trays.

Cons: * The internal seal flap of the left door sometimes gets stuck in the open position when you pull the door open, so when we close the door, the flap bangs into the right door. We need to remember to flick it inward before we close the door. * The bottle storage bins on both doors have silly rubber 'fingers' that secure bottles in place. These limit the size of what you can comfortably fit in the bins. The bins are also too small and a 2L bottle of milk has to be tugged out and forced in. * It can be a bit noisy - not all the time but it is noticeable when the room is quiet. * Since they started making this fridge in Thailand instead of Australia, the build quality isn't as good. The freezer drawer is clunky and wobbly. Nowhere near as solid as the previous, Australian made, model. We need to be sure we open the freezer door using both hands at the widest points of the handle bar, otherwise, it opens at an angle. Upon opening the drawer, sometimes it makes a loud clunk.

It will be interesting to see how long this model lasts, considering the Australian made previous model only lasted 8 years.

3 years still going strong g – my last fridge started falling apart after 4 years but this one has been a gem so far. I purchased it in early 2017 and have not had any problems with it and can safely say its a well built fridge. its definitely been a good purchase for me Show details

DONT BUY THIS FRIDGE – This fridge is not worth the money. It was quite pricey and within 3 years the freezer handle came off. Then freezer kept icing up - then the fridge would always keep beeping. Now it’s been 4 years and the fridge has completely stopped working - everything in the fridge is now all spoiled. Have to go and buy a new fridge tomorrow! Don’t ever buy this fridge.

Fridge fits space but not great long term – Similar to other review here - I have had the freezer door handle break at 2.5 years, just outside warranty. The plastic clip (possibly a $1 piece on it's own) cannot be bought separately from the $250 to $300 door handle set. In pursuing the replacement, Westinghouse support was slow and not helpful with finding replacement options. I had far… Read more

more luck getting a lower price and the right parts with an internet search. This may be due to their own website which is difficult to navigate for the right part. Fridge can get on the noisy side but acceptable (even in the open plan house near to living room area + TV). Fridge efficiency is quite poor (it is the major power consumer and does not seem to drop power draw even over night). Due to my fridge space size, I have limited options but cannot recommend the fridge for others.

Would I buy one again? – Would I buy one again? Probably not. While the style of the french doors and pull out freezer suits our kitchen the functionality is questionable. The compressor is intermittently noisy, the spring loaded mid door seal does not work reliably and the temperature setting is optimistic and inaccurate. Show details

Keeps having cooling issues 5years old – Last year my Westinghouse started to have issues. I paid for extra warranty. The fridge wasn’t cooling, freezer was still working. It was a small part that needed replacing. Something to do with defrosting. This year it’s doing the same thing and is no longer under warranty. So sad as I’m not sure exactly what part wasnt working last year. Show details

Design fault with freezer handle. Poor out of warranty experience – Our freezer handle broke off the other day from normal use which was a bit of a shock. Strangely the left hand clip broke on the door side but the handle mount broke on the right side leaving the fridge side clip intact. I thought it would be as simple as calling Westinghouse and buying some new clips but sadly I was wrong. I was informed that the… Read more

clips on the door side are apart of the freezer door and the whole door would need to be replaced which would cost over $300. To add insult to injury Westinghouse don't sell the plastic handle mounts instead they make you buy all the handles as a set which would be another $300+. So it would be well over $600 to repair an obvious design fault.

When I reported the fault and advised that the price of the parts makes it uneconomical to repair there was no further offer of support for this fault even though it looks to be known issue.

This is very disappointing that the freezer is now unusable because of a couple of cheap plastic clips and a poor design.

Our previous Fisher & Paykel fridge was over 10 years old and worked flawlessly and obviously had much sturdier handles. The only reason we upgraded to the Westinghouse was because of the french door design. I definitely wont be buying another Westinghouse in the future.

Broken after 1.5 years. Third time called for service – Fridge motor has died after 1.5 years of use. After 6 months the motor began to make a loud screeching noise, called Westinghouse they sent a repair man (2 weeks later) and replaced an apparent faulty part. Roughly 6 months after that it began making more loud noises. Called repairs again. Now after 1.5 years it has completely died. Motor will not… Read more

work $200 worth of food going bad, was just on hold for 1 hours and 20mins to just ask for a call back. I'm now wanting a full refund and never buying a Westinghouse product again. Amazing that a $2,000 fridge could be so porely made. When I was younger our fridge lasted 15 years not one and a half years.

*update*

Have spoken with customer service. The lady initially tells me the technician will take around a month to come. Now I am expecting a call from a contractor in the next few hours. She asked my if i have a spare fridge (which I don't), to which she tells me "well most people have a spare fridge these days" which I find completely absurd. I would honestly like a full refund/return on the fridge now as I have no confidence this will not happen again once the warranty ends in a few months time.

Was a great fridge until the door handle mount broke – Fridge has been great until the freezer door handle came off.... I would have given it 5 stars until this The design of the handle mount is bad with a lot of weight bearing on a small plastic mount When the mount breaks you cannot replace it - you have to buy an entire handle kit which is 3 steel handles and 6 six plastic mounts.... cost ~$300. The money I can live with, the waste is unacceptable. Not good Westinghouse - hope you are listening ! Show details

Westinghouse shame – this fridge does not maintain a reliable temperature ,and when you try to set the controls panel it doesn't work ,I need to get their people at $125 to look at the problem ,plus costs if it needs repairs and they know the fridge has issues anyway ,when you payed $1850 you expect to get more than 2 years my parents had a fridge that was 40 years old Show details

Happy until handle came off – Very happy with this fridge until the handle came off the freezer drawer. Fridge is only 3 years old. Enquired about a part to be told I needed a handle repair kit at cost of $309 ( it was a small plastic bit that was broken) On a aprox $2000 fridge , handle should last longer than 3 years. Show details

Lemon! – Only a couple of yrs old and the freezer handle came off the other week. The fridge presents in as new condition and falling to bits. piece plastic nob which is clearly a fixture WAY too small for the job and one of the plastic bits snapped off. The handle cannot be re-fitted! Also the seals/gaskets are not sticking properly ie when you open the doors there is no suction so opening feels like opening a cupboard. I noticed food that should last for months going mouldy plus the seals are wet with condensation. The seals appear perfect to look at yet failing. All up the fridge is not fit for purpose. At this stage Im monitoring the temp and other variables to see how things go and will contact the manufacture....if no job maybe the ACCC. A fridge yrs back could last 20 yrs plus. We know manufacturers are always trying to produce and use cheaper materials but would at least expect 10 yrs out of it. Westinghouse - I'll remember not to purchase anything Westinghouse again.

Worst Fridge Ever – When we bought our house we thought we'd "invest" in an expensive fridge that would hopefully last years and years. The first fridge was replaced within the two year warranty. The second fridge was replaced within the two year warranty. The third fridge started to ice up massively. I manually defrosted it which helped for a couple of months, then… Read more

it started icing up again to the point I couldn't even open the freezer door so I got an emergency independent fridge technician over to look at it. He recommended turning the fridge/freezer off for two days and said hopefully that would resolve the issue. I had to throw out a lot of food, at least $100 worth. After two days I turned the fridge back on but I could still see a gap in the freezer and sure enough within a day the freezer was fully iced up again. I called Electrolux and they said my fridge wasn't under warranty anymore and they didn't think they could get a technician out that day (Friday) and Saturday was booked out but they'd see what they could do and call me back within an hour. After not receiving the call back within an hour and taking into account callout fees and parts and labour, my husband and I agreed not to throw good money after bad and ended up purchasing another brand new fridge which I'm hoping lasts far longer than the Westinghouse one did and doesn't need to be replaced so often. This fridge is utterly useless and a complete waste of money. I provided Electrolux the opportunity to respond to this review via mediation and they advised they could only have assisted if I still had the fridge for them to inspect. I'd had it taken away for disposal when our new one was delivered - why would I keep a broken fridge that was leaking all over my floors and who has room to store this? Electrolux also asked to see the service report from the independent fridge technician I called out, however I did not have one, in fact the technician didn't even charge me for the visit and he did not physically repair the fridge, only made the recommendation to switch the fridge off for two days. I am now in the process of making a complaint to the industry ombudsman.
