Harassment from the start scary amount of phone calls and lots of pressure. Be aware. I’m blocking number and getting continued phone calls becoming aggressive.
Follow-up · Harassment to sign up. Kept calling and emailing. Started within a day of initial interest in company to publish a book.
I haven't even published with them yet, but I was on an hour phone call where the publishing consultant just talked at me the whole time. She was condescending, rude and had no empathy. She made the publishing process seem daunting and confronting. She got defensive when I asked why she wanted me to sign the contract immediately and stated that my name was "unusual" and "exotic." She overall discouraged me from publishing through them.
What ever you do, do NOT use Xlibris to publish your book. I did and they bled me dry. Happily, I have learnt from my mistakes and learnt how to use Scrivener to create my next book and publish it directly with Kindle and Amazon saving thousands of… Read more
dollars. I was with Xlibris for 18 months spent thousands , got hassaled with high pressure sales and have not received a dollar in commission. My book, Ukraine, the Good Bad and the Ugly, second edition is now selling well on Amazon and I am finally making headway.
Follow-up · Xlibris initially began publishing my first book, Ukraine: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, at an agreed set price. However, they soon began repeatedly calling to negotiate additional costs, primarily to fund marketing services that ultimately delivered no measurable results. Their customer service was poor when support was required, yet… Read more
Scammers! Keep miles away from them or they will give you false hope and con you out of thousands of dollars.
Yes, they are SCAMMERS who have HIJACKED my books and are refusing to relinquish them even though I parted ways with them over a decade ago. They are continuing to "sell" my books at around a $300 mark. Thats the reason why my books arent selling. I have threatened them with legal action, however, they ignored me. I will shortly be taking legal action against them for illegally hijacking my books, and for loss of income.
Predatory, terrible, overpriced and unprofessional – Absolute scam artists. Overpriced packages meet terrible service. Once you buy a publishing package they hard sell you things like marketing and book Fair packages that are complete rip offs. Marketing packages like all their packages contain a laundry list of worthless inclusions. Marketing packages do zero marketing where it matters (ie: on… Read more
Amazon) and there is no disclosure of how much ad spend is included. The book videos are terrible and most have fewer than 25 actual views. When you stop buying their add ons, they drop you like a rock and you have to fight to even get your published book finished. Xlibris are part of a group all owned by the same US company, so all equally terrible and almost predatory in their actions. For thousands less you can self publish without the rip off. Also, they own your book, you don't. Read the small print.
Another Philippine scam – The scammers are based in the Philippines. They have perfect US accents and say they operate out of the USA. The Australian and New Zealand telephones are linked to the Philipines, and they say they have an Australian Office in Chatswood, Sydney. Do not be dragged into their web of dishonesty and trust. They are now under investigation by Federal Government Departments. Hopefully, their activities in Australia and New Zealand will cease shortly.
Still Harrassing – It has now been four years since I was last in contact with X Libris, and a year since my last review. They are still calling me every day despite my not telling them I’m no longer interested. This is borderline illegal.
RIPPED OFF – As to rating this company ...they dont ....steer clear they are a shonky co. what a big ripoff. They prayed on my elderly father HE PAID THOUSANDS & THEY WANTED THE MONEY UPFRONT, they hounded him just like tele marketers... if you pay this much more $ you can have this .... what a load of nonsense. Find a printer in your local area you will not be disappointed. If you have also been ripped off ...write a review to warn others off.
I got refunded – I was contacted in 2015 during a manic episode and gave them some money. Later I contacted them and told them I was manic when they called me and I wanted my money back, and they gave me my money back. Getting my money back was pleasant, but I can't warrant 5 stars. It seems entirely counterintuitive that a publishing house would go to this… Read more
much effort to pressure writers into paying them some money, when selling books should be what makes money for them.
RUN!!!! – Danger,danger... RUN!!!!!! Unless you're happy to give them thousands for nothing in return...no royalties either!
Annoying – Constantly rang me, I rang them back and asked when had I contacted them. 2018! I had made an enquiry. Then today they rang again. I said they were a vanity company and wasn’t interested. Offered 50% off, a great offer. No thanks! I shouldn’t have to pay to get my book published.
Nice try Xlibris – they tried to convince me offering me weird discounts if i accept an UNIC OFFER ONLY TODAY lol, they think I'm stup.. dont trust on this people

There a thief – They stole my money. They talked me into paying over two thousand dollars. They said they’re in Australia. Now they say they’re in Usa taxing me on $2. They said they put small amounts of money in my bank. My bank check till 2019 nothing I also know for a fact someone bought my book on amazon and Xlibris said they got no record of it. calling asking me to buy some of my own book to sell myself. When its cheaper for me to print myself. How can i get my $2000 or more back. There a thief. Should not be in business
Professional Sammers – Xlibris are a scam! They promise you everything and give you nothing. They owe me 9 years worth of book sales, for which I have not received a single cent. DO NOT PUBLISH WITH THEM! MARTYN GABE AUTHOR OF THE MORAL VACUUM
DON'T DO IT !!! – Worst company I've ever had to deal with :( Harrassed by thier salesperson non-stop for days, then seven calls in one day when he was trying to get me to sign up- I only wanted time to think it over, but SEVEN calls in one day, I said yes- wish I never had!! Notified them of my wish to cancel the very next day after reading the contract!! 5 weeks after the request to cancel, I'm still waiting on my money being returned :(
No go! – I published my first book with them in 2015... Until now 2024 I'm still getting all these marketing calls about it... This guys they will betray your personal details! It's a NO from me, never again
Rip off – Terrible. Published a book with them 11 years ago. Found out online my book was a huge success tried to ring but to no avail
Hopeless – Xlibris only cares for you when they are extracting money from you. They are NOT proper publishers, they can't follow instructions.
They took all my money – Since I published my book. In 2015 i only got $8 and they tax me on it. They say there in Australia. The cheque came from Usa. I wish i can get my $4000 back
- +1
Xlibris scammed me my royalties – Never ever go with Xlibris they will market your book around the world promising 10% from their 100% royalties but nevertheless they will cheat you lie too you take you for granted & give you nothing even though my book Dynamics Allegiance Development ( Steppingstones Of Reason ) 522 pages is a world renowned book. Do not go near them – 1000 AUD taken out of my brother's account and no service provided. They keep promising a refund but delay it and delay it and delay it. Of course they don't even intend to refund it. Just don't use them for goodness sake
Relentless - they call me more than my mum – I downloaded a free guide from them to writing children's books. Around a week or two later, the marketing calls started. Three times a day they would call, my own mum only calls me once a week at most. No way have I had time to write a book yet, and when I do, I'll self-publish and I won't be using them. I told them I couldn't talk I'm busy… Read more
because without fail they call at mealtime. Finally I sent a screenshot from my phone showing the three calls from them every single day, I sent it to Spamwatch and sent it in reply to one of the spamming emails they sent me at the same frequency. I blocked them on my iPhone, and set my voicemail app to "no SMS notifications" but unfortunately something changed and now I get an SMS every time they call saying this number called but they didn't leave a message. It's infuriating, they never give up. Still calling me daily, even on weekends and it's six months later. It's Saturday and they just called me. I phoned them back the other day basically to yell at them to stop calling or just not say a word and then hang up, but I ended up in a queue so I just gave up as I didn't have the time.
Wishing I read the reviews before sending my first payment – Just like all the other reviews said; they lie and manipulate you into thinking they're offering you a really good book deal, but once you send them money, all the truth behind their lies come out and gaslight you with it. Everything I said to them afterwards was "I changed my mind, I just want all my money back in full." They would keep trying… Read more
to convince me to stay with them seen as I already paid, but because they lied about everything, I'd keep telling them "No, I just want a refund., No, I just want my money back and cancel the deal." On repeat. After months of them calling me everyday and telling me I should stay with them and not get a refund, I would ask if they've refunded me yet and they'd tell me "no because it's got to go through different workers like the supervisors, owner, accountants, banks, etc." I then asked them to send me the recordings of all the phone calls we had (as they always told me at the beginning of every phone call that it's being recorded) so I could play back every moment they lied and tricked me, they refused to send me the recordings, but at least it made them finally refund me all my money. Half a year later (today) they called me to ask if I changed my mind back to "working" with them and I told them "Hell f***ing no!" Then hung up on them. Rating them one star is too polite for these lowlife scammers.
Despicable and fraudulent company – Absolutely horrible. I was mislead into paying for a product that they do not offer. Asked for a refund due to misleading me as a customer into paying them, after months of making my point. Been waiting on a refund for 2 years now with some refund specialist named AL that keeps dragging this out in hopes that I forego my hard earned money. After… Read more
all my time and efforts, this week Al informed me that a refund will be processed with a deduction of $240 admin fee. Despicable! I am contesting this and will be taking this case to the commerce commission board. Ugh, such a distasteful experience.
Marketing department is changed so much. As an author i like them – After the bad experience I had in my first book, I was shocked how well they have changed their marketing strategy; for my second book I took advantage of all the benefits they offered to me as an author. They truly support me.
Paid thousands to publish and haven't received one cent back – In 2015, I paid approx. $5000 (AU) to this company to publish 2 books. For a couple of years after, the company would ring to harass me to ask for more money promising me more things which was not true. To this day, despite my books being sold, I have not received any royalties, not one cent. When I approach them, over the issue, I am ignored… Read more
or told they have, but my bank told me that they have never deposited a cent into my account. They are a self publishing company for them not you.
I wish I could give minus 100 star rating they are sooo dodgy – Xlibris rip off authors big time. They say all of the right things to make you think they are fantastic so that you will hand over thousands of dollars to them. They pretend to have an office in Australia but in reality they are in the Phillipines. They do not answer phone calls once they are aware that you have worked out how dodgy they are but,… Read more
that is ok because, by corresponding with them via email leaves a paper trail (a phone call leaves you with no proof of their dodgy dealings!) They do not issue receipts for payments made and, when receipts are requested, they are not an accurate reflection of how much you have paid; thank God we have bank, statements which can prove how much we have paid. They try to confuse you by wording their emails using jargon. I actually think they use gas-lighting tactics. They have poor bank reconciliation methods and do not keep accurate records of payments made. They try to confuse you every step of the way from the very first moment they suck you in. They pretend to offer you a 50% book deal but, in reality, they really require you to publish 2 books with them (so it is not really a discount at all!). Then, they won’t start the process of working on your first manuscript until you have paid them thousands of dollars for both books (even when you only really wanted to write and publish one book anyway). I am in the process of trying to get a refund of some of my money but they are still saying that I paid them about about $1000 less than what my bank statements say I paid them. Stay well clear of this company. You will regret it!
False promises and hounding for sales yet not for dollow ups – I was promosed delivery of paid goods in plenty of time for my book launch and this did not happen. They tried overcharging me for postage aa first quote over $1000 and when I questioned it the quote was $62. Discounts were not aa quoted as online price was cheaper. Show details
Just want your money – Buyer Beware. Extremely high pressure tactics. It is all about extracting money from you. Not interested in helping authors produce quality books. They got offended because I asked them to be transparent about what their cut of the book sales covers.
You will pay hundreds to thousands for a sub-standard product – This company is a scam to make thousands of writers, not readers. They pretend to have an office in Australia, but your calls are just being forwarded to the Philippines. They will insert typos, screw up the formatting, keep making errors, while the cost keeps increasing for every one of their corrections. They will offer you services that you… Read more
have no proof are carried out. They will sell copies of your book without forwarding you money for it. They will also stop answering your phone calls.
