4 Margaret B.  · Super smooth, I would highly recommend it to use this the scent is not too strong I love it
1 Jacque D.  · Definitely not – Irritate my skin and it damaged my skin. I feel like my face got burned after applying it for a few times.
1 Kate  · Worst sunscreen – Avoid this product . Whole family burnt after using this product .
1 Leyand  · RUBBISH DO NOT BUY – Straight up does nothing and you get roasted. How this is still on the shelves is a joke
1 Paul S.  · Doesn't Work – I used the 50+ roll on today and now I'm so sunburned that I know I am going to peel. I have already had 2 melanomas and I am upset.

If i could give this sunscreen a 0 i would. I am so angry. My 13 year old twins had a pool party for 3 hours today. They apploed this cream 20 mins before leaving so it would sink in. They reapplied 1 and half hours after the first application. They… Read more

are now so badly burnt. This is the first time they have been this burnt. They are both redheads so we have always been so careful with sunscreen. We usually use kmart brand cream daily and never has this happened. Today because i knew they were out in the sun for 3 hours i brought this thinking it would be super strong. Im hoping they dont wake up sick because of how burnt they are. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Follow-up  · A follow up from my original post answering a few questions. The pool party was 3 hours long. They werent in the pool the entire time. The question how much was applied. We applied 20 mins before the pool party started we did this at home. They lathered it on (they are red heads as am I and we always lather). Once we were there they again… Read more

This is the WORST sunscreen I have ever used; our family used it on a 30 degree day (not overly hot for Australian climate), we reapplied liberally every 2 hours and all of us were burnt red raw. I have since seen the other reviews and the choice article on how poorly the true SPF rating actually compares to the stated SPF. This should be removed… Read more

from the market and never sold again! Cancer Council doing a disservice to the Australian people with this product. I have included a photo of myself only, the kids were just as bad if not worse than me!

Cancer Council Ultra Sunscreen 250mL tube manufactured for Cancer Council, through or by, Vitality Brands Worldwide Pty Ltd (no disclosure of which… Read more

actual company makes the product!) The product became lumpy at least 12 months before the expiry date of July 2026. I realise the product is now listed in ProductReview as 'discontinued' but this is not correct and I wonder who posted that remark? In actual fact, as of 4/10/25, you can STILL BUY the Cancer Council Ultra Suncreen 250mL tube (looks exactly like my tube) at Woolworths for $21.00 and Chemist Warehouse for $18.99! So consumers can still buy this potentially faulty product and reviewers are disinclined to post a review due to it being "discontinued". Contacted Vitality Brands. A representative contacted me within 2 business days. I was advised the company does not give cash refunds but can send replacement product. So now I need to have faith that they now know how to produce sunscreen. Surely a consumer that bought a product that becomes faulty within the expiry period is entitled to a refund? The product has a PF 50+ protection rating. I assume this is for non-faulty product? Additional information to the original review. 26/9/25: Rang Vitality Brands phone number on sunscreen tube and supplied details of problem. 30/9/25: Contacted by Vitality Brands representative via email for product details (batch number & expiry date). Replacement product offered. 4/10/25 Review submitted to ProductReview thinking the matter was closed. 7/10/25: Replacement product received in mail. 7/10/25: ProductReview advises my review has been published. 8/10/25: Further follow up for details from Vitality Brands representative. Reassurance current new product is satisfactory. Faulty product to be returned for investigation. Voucher supplied as refund. Vitality Brands representative has been very good in handling this issue. Some additional questions readers have asked; • Did you apply the lumpy product? It gradually became lumpy so in the early stages it was applied but then stopped altogether when the lumps became obvious. • How was the replacement product? I have not used replacement product. • Where was it stored? The tube was specifically bought for golf so it was stored in a golf bag. When home, the golf bag got transferred from car to garage until the next game of golf.

Follow-up  · I have answered these questions at the end of my original review. Please go to my original review. Thank you for your interest in this product.

Awful – Completely ineffective! Applied it every 20 minutes and ended up with one of the worst burns I’ve ever gotten. I don’t recommend anyone use this if they value their health and safety. Especially concerning considering it’s made by cancer council… Show details

Absolute waste of money and dangerous!! – My son's used this 20 mins in the tube before going into the sea water and it completely doesn't work. Its not water resistant at all and downright dangerous to your skin even in one hour. The reapplication time is 2 hrs yet it fails in one hour. They were burned on the arms neck and face. Worst sunscreen ever – Bought this sunscreen, cancer council everyday 50+ applied balf hour before sun exposer and reapplied, worst sunburn I’ve ever had and was hardly in the sun, spent most of my time in the shade, other days when I used a different brand sunscreen and spent more time in the sun got no sunburn whatsoever. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS BRAND. My children are all burnt and in pain because I constantly reapplied this dangerous cream. Show details

How can this be even sold? It’s dangerous – Currently on holiday in Mauritius and wanted some factor 50 sunscreen. My face got burnt anyway??? – Bought this sunscreen a few days ago, as the sunscreen we had was very old and I wanted some good quality stuff. Applied it today when I went swimming, and did everything right, and yet my face still got burned! I even put extra sunscreen on my nose, forehead, and under my eyes, and waited at least 20 minutes before going in the water, and… Read more

This is the worst sunscreen I have ever used ! – This product is relatively easy to apply. Sticky after application. I used the standard SPF 50 Plus sunscreen in the tube and there was no results. Everyone that used it got burnt exactly like no one used any sunscreen. We reapplied this twice in a 3 hour period and noticed the burnt skin on ourselves as soon as we hit the shade. I thought this… Read more

It's like it washed off as soon as we entered the water – My partner and I have used this sunscreen for a week and covered our complete body, this resulted in being burnt everytime. We followed the instructions however this did not make a difference. The fact that it's 'cancer council' you would think it would be the best one however I will never buy or apply this again, extremely disappointed and our bodies are very sore and burnt. Show details

Worst sunscreen ever – With my wife currently going through treatment for melanoma, we wanted to be extra careful with sun protection during our summer holiday. Applied this SPF 50+ sunscreen liberally 20 mins before sun exposure and again after an hour in the water, but myself, wife and two small children all got burnt. I thought the "Cancer Council" adding their… Read more

endorsement to this product would mean we'd be less likely to suffer sun damage, not more.

Shame on them for selling their brand to a substandard product for a few bucks at the cost of the public's safety.

To answer the questions posed on this form:

It's easy to apply and doesn't feel greasy. But you don't select sunscreen based on feelings so this is irrelevant.

The sunscreen is not effective at all and needs to be reapplied never, unless you want to get sunburn again.

We did get skin irritations - red itchy skin with a burning sensation, about 3-4 hours after application and sun exposure.

Do yourself a favour and stay well away from anything with "Cancer Council" branding or made by Vitality Brands Worldwide, as neither seem to care about the consumer.

So burnt it stings – Terrible product & very disappointed that it has been created/endorsed by the Cancer Council. I'm a fair red head and very concious of being in the sun. I was in the sun for 3 hours and reapplied the 50+ roll on after 1.5 hours. My 3 year old son is also badly burnt.

Don’t waste your money – My kids and I used it today at the beach and all 3 of us are now sunburnt. We were at the beach a total of 3 hours and reapplied at 1.5 hours. I used my usual tinted moisturiser with spf on my face and it’s not burnt at all even with swimming. Wouldn’t recommend this product at all and would give zero stars if possible Show details

Terrible, seems to make sunburn worse!! – Used this about 7 years ago in Australia as a friend had it on their boat. Lasted all day with one reapplication and zero burn, so I thought I would buy some this year, after spending almost no time in the sun and applying multiple times and really caking it on, I still got very burnt. Absolutely does not work. Worse still it seems to irritate my skin and eyes . Show details

Terrible sunscreen- sunburnt after using – This is the worst sunscreen I have ever used. We’re always at the beach and outdoors hiking and always use other sunscreens with no issue. My family are all sunburnt today using this Cancer Council Ultra 50+ sunscreen. We all applied 3 generous applications of this sunscreen over the 4 hours we were at the beach, and all have significant sunburn. I would not trust this sunscreen ever again and will be throwing it away. Show details

WARNING. THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT PROVIDE PROTECTION FROM THE SUN. Wish I read reviews first, do not buy – Daughter applied to herself, husband and daughter. SPF 50+. They weren’t in the sun for any length of time, yet all were sunburnt. No way this cream lasts for two hours. I can no longer rely on the Cancer Council label for reliability for protection. I thought I was purchasing a safe product. My daughter is very viligant with sun protection,… Read more

and was surprised to be burnt. Not happy. Waste of money, and can’t get a refund. Needs to be withdrawn from stock I received a reply from Vitality Brands on 6/9/2023. Unfortunately I cannot copy and paste their tables. They write "To get the level of SPF advised on the product you need at least one teaspoon per limb, one for the front of the body, one for the back, one for the head/neck and ears", "The recommended usage for full body coverage is 35mL per full body for an average size adult with reapplication every 2 hours or immediately after swimming or towel drying. We find that many Australians are surprised to learn how much sunscreen needs to be applied to be effective. Cancer Council recommends that a full body application should be at least 35 mL, or 7 teaspoons". So basically everybody who is getting burnt by the product is not applying enough.

Recommend not to purchase

Save yourself being burnt...JUST DON'T – 0 stars. Applied this idiot sunscreen to 5 kids from 3 different families every hour whilst also in shaded areas with rashie pants and clothing on. The only places that didn't get horrifically burnt was where the cream was not added. Their behinds, stomachs and bottoms of their feet. So will assume that chemicals cause this reaction? Well guess what? No more...1 kid in hospital being treated. Cancer causing cream. Show details
