States 6 litres on the bag, but only fills 2 X 2L milk bottles. So that's 4 litres. Comes with tiny moths inside that fly around my home every time I open a new bag. Gets easily flung around the room and have to constantly sweep it up, even when I have a 50L tub with high sides as a littler box. Expensive. $9 for 4 litres. Positives: clumps… Read more
relatively well if you leave the clumps to dry properly, which takes time. But the clumping after time is effective

My son got horrible allergic skin rash – Just adopt a kitten and straight away to bought this litter on Wollies, then since that, my son got horrible allergic from the hay fever, and he really suffered from that, actually the product quite really good, it didn't cause any smells even I didn't clean up while I'm away out of town for couple days, it really absorbs all poo and pee, but just… Read more
bcoz my son really suffering from it, so we had to come to very sad decision if we has to giving away the kitten include the litter just a week we had them, wishes ive could find something else ☹️
In-depth reviews
Terrible tracking, does not clump at all – I'll start with the positives, it is great value for money. It is flushable and biodegradable. Apart from that, it's quite bad in every other way. I used Catlux for over 2 years after a recommendation from a family member. It's made of a saw dust like by-product. It has this woody smell. It can be quite dusty when pouring. The tracking is… Read more
probably the worst thing about this litter, especially with long haired cats. And once it has spread around the house, be careful not to get it wet as it is hard to clean it off, and leaves stains on dark tiles.
The next issue is the clumping, it works okay with feces but it has no ability to clump urine. The litter turns wet and sticky but does not clump hard. This makes it very hard to remove with a porous scoop. The wetness can spread quickly because of how absorbent saw dust is, you end up with this large wet sticky mass at the bottom of the litter box. Because of this, you will routinely dispose of large amounts of litter every time you clean.
More recently I have moved over to using a bentonite clay clumping litter and it's honestly like night and day. It's so much better. I regret buying Catlux and sticking with it for so long before trying something else.
Tracking is terrible, but has good odour control and clumping – I tried this litter for about 3 weeks before giving this review: This litter was so close to being good... but the tracking is just too much for me to take. It sticks to my cats feet and fur, and it is not only all over the laundry (where the litter trays are) but all through the house/pet beds/desks/anywhere the cats go. I vacuum the laundry… Read more
daily due to the tracking, but it doesn't seem to help avoiding the spread everywhere. On the plus side, as the litter is only small, it is not super noticable or painful to step on (such as you get with larger wood or paper litters). But the tracking is just too much for me unfortunately.
The odour control is very good. No residual pee smell at all.
Also it is lightweight so it is easy to pick up a bag. As its sold at supermarkets, it is also convenient to get. Price point is average (middle of the range) compared to others.
The clumping component (bentonite?) does leave a bit of a dried muddy residue in the bottom of the litter, not unlike some clay litters. But nothing that sticks badly or excessively, and will come off with your regular litter tray clean.
I've seen several reviews here stating this litter doesn't clump, however in my experience it clumps very well - BUT only while the pee is still wet/moist. Once it starts drying significantly (i.e. over 24 hours) then yes it does fall apart easily. So this litter is best if you are the type of person who cleans their cat's litter once or twice a day.
Unfortunately still hunting for my holy grail litter...
Couldn't be happier! – There is no litter out there that ticks all the boxes, but this litter ticks more than most for us! We got onto it when our girl cat decided she didn't like the crystals she had been brought up on anymore, and started going outside the litter tray. After a quick google of the issue, we decided to offer both cats 3 different litters, to see what… Read more
they liked. I picked up 3 at random, and they went straight for the catlux.
It's conveniently flushable and we are no longer killing our bare feet on crystals around the house, so all 4 of us - the cats, my partner and I - are hooked. It also is the best litter for urine odour control I've ever come across. I'm sure there are litters out there that clump better and track less, but truly those are the only 2 points about this litter that aren't perfect. For a minuscule amount of extra effort vacuuming and scooping, we get incredible odour control, easy disposal, and best of all, happy cats. We couldn't be happier with this product. Amazing odour control, easy disposal, happy cats, soft on all our feet, budget friendly, pleasant woody smell. Tracks easily, doesn't clump perfectly.
Positive reviews
Still the best for many reasons – I have been using Catlux for years now and have never had an issue. It is economical, easy to use, flushable, sustainable and no odour. I wrote the company because I noticed that the packaging said it was no longer flushable. The company director contacted me personally and informed me that the government has now made a blanket law where any… Read more
product - even once labelled suitable to flush in a normal system - can no longer be flushed. Those people flushing anything down the loo have spoiled it for the rest of us. I will continue to use this product.
Best Cat Litter on the market – I have used Catlux for nearly 20 years and there's no odour and it clumps perfectly.... what more could you want from Cat litter... Only complaint is that price keeps going up. Show details
Excellent cat litter – Catlux is cheapest from BigW, usually 24litres for $27. Some pet places may meet this price if you ask. The litter bag is light to carry , the litter DOES absorb all odour. Our litter box is in the laundry , open from the kitchen & right by the back door. We never have a problem with Catlux but every other cat litter does not absorb the urine… Read more
odour. We do not keep the litter box covered so one of our cats does sprinkle the litter about by a small amount only in the laundry. There is no dust - none of our 4 cats have ever reacted to it. Easy to set up, dispose of on garden beds. I will never buy anything else unless Catlux totally unavailable.
Negative reviews
Clumps fall apart when scooping – For the premium price of this product, I found it to be disappointing. The urine clumps fall apart upon contact with the litter scoop, which means that excessive amounts of unsoiled litter is discarded each time and I went through a $9 bag with just one little cat in 4 days. Plus she tracks it out onto the floor because it’s so light weight. Show details
No longer flushable – Catlux has always tracked badly but that didn't bother me as both me and my cat liked it for ease of use and disposal. However, I am now looking for other cat litter brands as Catlux is no longer flushable - the front of the bag doesn't contain the word flushable, and when you look at the back for instructions, it states it needs to be disposed… Read more
of in the garbage.
And I can see why - it is now just lumps of gravel, not finely ground like it used to be, and since the change, my cat has started pooping on the carpet as she loathes this new composition. I wouldn't even attempt to flush it down the loo as it would probably clog up the sewerage system.
So a hard NO from me, I'm afraid.
Good odor control. Good capture of waste – The litter does a good job of controlling odor and collecting waste Unfortunately it sticks to one of my cats and there is litter tracked through out my house. Show details

Been using this for decades but sadly over time it has changed to where I am worried about using it. It used to be light and airy wood shavings with the clay coating. Clumped well, no odor, no dust. This has changed to a bag of tiny gravel and lots of dust. It doesn't clump anymore and just creates a muddy mess. It has so much dust when even… Read more
just scooping that both myself and one of my cats is having respiratory issues from it. It triggers my air purifier in the other room when my cats scratch it. I have to keep it in the bag as transferring it to a container throws up so much dust my whole house smells of it and I am left with a sinus infection and the cat gets an eye infection. It also gets everywhere. Cats track it into the other end of the house. I've pulled out furniture to clean and found it hiding in the gaps between the floor boards. The dust creates a dusty coating all over the bathroom and the towels.
Since it's bentonite clay I worry about lead exposure from the dust as well. I remember seeing a statement on the companies website about no detectable quantity but nothing about having zero. I can't find it now. With pet products having lower testing requirements, this could mean anything. After a lot of unexplained health issues for myself and my cats over the decades, the litter is being removed from my house.
I'm switching to a non-clay litter now even if the cats get mad.
My cat loves it. I find it very easy and doesn't smell which is the best outcome – My cat loves it. People are asking me how I keep cat smells from the house as most places they go where a cat resides have an immediate smell, whereas you can't smell cat at all here. Often when I clean it, I think there's nothing in it as I cannot smell it,but find little packages unexpectedly. So I'm really satisfied with this product. Easy to use,to clean up, to dispose of. Altogether tops. I'm just so glad I chose this one. Show details

Worst litter! Waste of money! – If I could give no stars or minus stars I would!! This is hands down the worst kitty litter. It absorbs no odour, so much that my cat now himself stinks. Instead of getting a few days out of a tray we cannot go more than a few hours of the stink. Zero value for money and will NEVER buy again!! Show details
It has changed – Have used Catlux for years but over time it has changed. Used to be light and smelt fresh like wood shavings and would break down in the compost. Now it is heavy and looks like gravel /stone. It is not breaking down as well in the compost like it did before. The odor control is also not as good as it was a few years ago. Sadly I will switch to a more natural biodegradable product. Show details
Tracks terribly – Odour control is amazing, produces very little dust and it’s easy to set up. Unfortunately it tracks terribly. We use a covered litter tray and I even have one of those mats that traps litter at the entry of her litter box and that normally traps any stray litter. However that doesn’t help at all with this type of litter. Also, it doesn’t clump. Show details
My kittens love it – I started them using a different litter but after 2 days the smell of urine was so strong our kittens started using our bathroom sink.....this had to stop. Tried Catlux they absolutely love it...they wont use the previous litter at all. No smell. Clumps well but it does stick to the bottom of the litter tray so just need to be careful not to… Read more
break up the clumps....no biggie... Cost efficient....haven't changed it in 3 weeks.... Just need to top it up when required. Does track a bit but about as much as the other litter. Easy to dispose of down the toilet....just make sure you don't flush down more than recommended amount.
Not that great – I like that it's light eco friendly, it's not bad with controlling the odours. However ever the bag only lasted about a week, with the clumping not being so great, the clump would stick to the bottom and would just fall apart when you try scoop it out. Show details
Fabulous Cat Litter – I find Catlux the best ,and have tried many brands. the other brand I will use is more expensive made of soy. I use a plastic rake scoop and air the litter out side under cover during the day. Show details
It does not clump ! – Should not be called clumping litter while it does not clump at all. I have no idea how to scoop the litter out as it just collapse. Easy to be tracked as well. Very disappointed. Show details
Best Litter – This is the go to litter if you are having trouble litter training a cat. My older rescue cat who was severely abused and had no idea about toileting learnt how to use a litter box with catlux. My rescue kittens learn FIRST time with this litter. It is very gentle on their paws and claws and conceals odours well. Plus it is very easy to see when… Read more
and where it has clumped for quick cleaning. Also it's all natural and fully biodegradable. I have tried crystal litter, clumping clay, newspaper pellets etc and nothing compares to catlux. However it is more expensive than the other litters.
Biodegradable but tracks everywhere – The mess from this litter spreading Zarounf the house is absolutely dreadful. Do not use in a house at all. It creates a huge amount of work in cleaning Such a shame Show details

Best kitty litter I have used – Excellent odour control and as someone with a back injury,it is lovely and light to carry. I love that I can flush it down the toilet, but really, the reason I love it is the lack of smell. I live in a small unit and you would no know that I had kitty litter inside the house. Show details
Perfect for my cat – My cat would not do her number 2 in her litter tray she always did it on the concrete in her day area or the laundry floor as she is a house cat. Doing a wee in her tray was fine I tried everything all different types of cat litter to get her to use it for her doing all of her business in the tray Lol finally I found this one and yayyyy she now… Read more
does all of her business in her tray I am so happy, I worked out with it being soft on her paws she is comfortable it is also very easy to clean each day and has no smell I am very very happy thank you. I bought it from Coles but they don’t carry much stock so I may have to buy on line.
By Grapthar's Cat Litter, what a savings – Definitely one of the better options. My cat likes to scratch and dig a lot, unless I shoo her away. I try to stay on top of cleaning up. I found upgrading to the jumbo size tray, and adding some cardboard walls on three sides, has made an awsome difference in keeping the area tidy too. Show details
Terrible mess and tracking – This litter is very light and makes no noise. My long haired kitty is a mad digger and this stuff flies all over the bathroom when she digs in her box then it sticks to her fur and she tracks it all over the house and sneezes. It absorbs but sticks to the bottom of the tray. The good thing is the scent and how it captures the odor. We are on septic so can't flush it so it went on the rose garden. It's not the litter for us. Show details
Leaves no urine odours wafting through the air. Fresher smelling home – I have found it has the best odour control compared to other types I've tried over the years. I found some other litters to be quite stinky and could barely stand the smell while cleaning them out. I'm very happy with this one so far. A little tracking but I found no more than other brands. A little sweep keeps it neat. The odour control has… Read more
won me over. I also appreciate that it doesn't clump into a gooey, stinky, sticky mess, like some others do. For me, it clumps just enough for easy removal and disposal and my house smells so much better and fresher now. Love that.
It does clump – Contrary to what other reviewers have experienced, this litter does clump. I have had no issues with it not clumping. I've found it's easier to to pick up/sift the clumps by giving the tray a few shakes to separate the clumps from the loose litter. I only flush the solids. The litter bin doesn't have much of an odour with only wet clumps inside. I don't find it messy or particularly dusty. Show details
Fantastic for a quick scoop and flush – Most litters cause issues with the toilet system when flushed, but catlux is amazing. I can scoop and flush as soon as I notice the cat has gone. This keeps household odours down, and the kitty litter lasts much longer. Show details
very messy and dusty product – It is very messy and dusty product! This product does not "clump". It did stick to my cat's paws and fur and also he has got the sneezing from that! The litter get spread around the house terribly. I vacumed and cleaned all my house to help my cat rid of from that. Show details
Have they changed the ingredients? – I have used this for a long, long time and I loved the fresh smell of it and my cats really liked it. Just last week though, when I opened a new bag, the colour and smell was completely different. It really doesn’t smell pleasant at all anymore and I’m so disappointed. I opened up the other two bags hoping that something had just happened to the… Read more
first one but no, they are all the same. I will now be looking for another alternative for my cats as the smell is really not nice.
I wouldn't use anything else – Solids can be removed and flushed. Due to the clay like nature and my old sewer pipes, I choose not to flush any more. Liquid in the litter clumps enough for me. I tip the dry off to the side and scoop the wet out and sprinkle around the fence line of the lawn (yes, it falls apart). The cat has acepted this method and I don't feel like I'm… Read more
creating too much waste. Cat has a strong swing on him, so litter does go out of the box. Easy enough to tidy and easy enough on the feet if a little goes astray. A crystal litter might absorb more odour, but keeping the tray tidy works
Only Litter Cat has ever liked – My Ragdoll is fussy and I have had little luck with litters over the years. Tried the crystals, the pellets, various other types. Had little luck, she rarely used them. The Catalux Softwood Clumping has been the best success I have had. She uses very regularly and it is very good with the smell, and because it is so soft she is far more likely… Read more
to actually cover the mess instead of just having a half hearted go at it. It clumps pretty well for the most part, and is flushable, which is great. It does not track the best so there is a bit of cleaning, but nothing too terrible and not that much more than many other brands we have tried over the years.
The fact that she has taken to this one is a minor miracle and am very pleased with how she has responded to it and will definitely keep using it.
Doesnt clump – I like how soft it is, but it is very messy and not easy to clean up. Bonus that it can be flushed down the toilet, but doesn't clump properly (which was my reason for purchase). You try scoop up where the is wee in the litter tray and it all just breaks apart and goes back into the clean litter. Not sure how they can claim this is a clumping litter! Odour control is not bad but will not be buying again. Show details
My 18 cats definitely love Catlux – Nothing beats this litter for smell control. I've got six trays which are scooped daily, and I can get up to two weeks from it. Tracking is easy to clean. Show details
