Handle is rubbish – I have had a couple of faults during it's life, just not what they use to be. The handle has poorly designed mounts that just keep failing. Then to rub salt into it they sell the handles as a kit, when all that breaks is the mounts. So they rip you off for their poor design . Bought a cheap suction handle only $6.00. Not going to support them with their handle replacements that will fail in the same way.

Today the door handle broke :( – So far the fridge has operated quite well, now at 31 months old the door handle has broken off. The plastic mounting clips on the handle end fittings is just pathetic, I am surprised it lasted a day. I will glue the handle back on. Fingers crossed nothing else fails as reported by others. Flawed door handle design – * The good: as a refrigerator, it hasn't missed a beat in 3 years. * The bad: mechanically unsuitable door handle design, causing the refrigerator handle to break off. * The ugly: customer service experience with Electrolux (current owners of the Westinghouse brand), failure to acknowledge or admit there is a design flaw, and refusal to provide a… Read more

reasonable solution to the problem.

In just over 3 years of typical domestic use, the handle of my refrigerator door has broken away because an under-engineered plastic part has snapped.

Despite speaking with different Electrolux Customer Care staff on several occasions, making it absolutely clear that it is just the plastic pedestal that needs replacing, and being absolutely confident that the Customer Care member I was speaking with understood which broken part I was referring to, the response was always the same:

You need part 1943317: complete door handle assemblies for both the refrigerator and freezer doors Cost: $154

Further inquiries into exactly why this was the case for this particular model (replacement pedestals are available for other models) yielded no satisfactory answers ("they just do it that way"), and that I should email customercare@electrolux.com.au for more answers. More than a week later and I have received no response.

Having read through the reviews for this product on ProductReview, it's clear the door handle problem is not an isolated issue. It's also clear that Electrolux representatives have seen these reviews (based on review and comment post dates) and are actively choosing not to respond.

While I understand that Customer Care are the most public facing staff of the business, and that they operating within the scope of information they have been provided with, "they just do it that way" is in no way an acceptable response to this situation. The decision to make this specific component of the door handle assembly only available alongside several other unnecessary parts is an active choice. An active choice made by someone at a decision making level above Customer Service that has decided the customer should pay more than 10% of the refrigerator's RRP to regain basic functionality over a vital household appliance.

After a month, we are relatively pleased but a few things could improve – after 16 years we upgraded from our previous Westinghouse 342 lt fridge. The 453 lt bottom mount is a great fridge for the most part, but there are a couple of minor annoyances. I particularly like that: its roomy and has a flexible lay out. esp the the freezer draws that have very sturdy metal runners and more space ie deeper than most… Read more

other brands, allowing for larger items ie large frozen pizza or pastry sheets etc. large tubs of ice-cream,

We also like that the fridge is well lit so its easy to see and things are easily accessible.

I like that the temp settings indicate the actual temperature and can be set accurately.

Some things that could be better are relatively minor, but ill state them for your reference

1st / the never quite closing door,

It's like they designed to stay slightly open, then annoy you with its beeping.

I cant imagine why they did it . It would be just as easy to make it self closing.

Specifically designed to stay slightly open, then demand your secondary attention, as if to say, "Hey notice me".

2nd / is less an issue but a preference.

The old Westinghouse fridge had a small under shelf deli draw, that we used for cold cuts cheeses etc,

but isn't featured in this fridge.

- I noticed that the shelves in the new fridge are made with almost identical screw holes etc. to enable the attachment of a Deli draw but just isn't fitted, nor is a deli Drawer even available as an optional accessory from the Westinghouse web site.

I have a mind to just reuse the deli draw from the old fridge and adapt / extend the draw runners by 40mm to fit.

Great Fridge at incredible Value – This fridge was bought after reading a lot of reviews online. I have not been disappointed. The fridge space is very generous, with it easily holding a week full of fresh vegetables and fruits along with the meat. The temperature has been very consistent with no issues even in the past month of hot days in the high 30s. The drink rack in the… Read more

fridge is very handy, not only for convenient storage but the positioning allows for great circulation which in turn leads to faster cooling.

The freezer is great. The quick chill function has been a life saver as has the generous sizing of the ice tray. The freezer temperature, like the fridge, is easily controlled by the control panel and the setting is reliable. The drawers are strong enough to support being filled and extended completely.

Easily cleaned and very quiet, it is everything a small family could ask for in a fridge.

I have owned several fridges over the past 10 years and while this was purchased with price in mind, the quality is by far the best.

Badly designed main door handle – Bought from Harvey Norman Mandurah WA Store in November 2018. Fridge has worked well until recently during hot weather, really good door seals made opening difficult due to air cooling inside causing difficulty in opening main fridge door. The extra pulling force on the handle caused handle to break off and we had to crack the seal before opening… Read more

the door by pulling the top of the door. Very poor mechanical design on the handle clips with flimsy plastic retainers caused the failure. A replacement handle under warranty took weeks to arrive with instructions to DIY installation. Some redesign of the mounting is definitely required to provide a stronger fitting

Fridge door very hard to open – This fridge works really good and we like the layout but it is very hard to open the fridge door. The freezer door opens easily. After one week I reported this problem to the Good Guys where we purchased it and they said they would contact Westinghouse Service. Two weeks have gone by and so far no has contacted us. I see on the reviews where another customer has pulled his door handle off and they had to replace the whole door.  Show details ·  1

Excellent fridge – Our food lasts ages in this fridge. We’ve had milk stay perfectly fresh for over a month in there somehow. It maintains temperature so well and cools thing down quickly. It’s pretty quiet too. Easy to clean, and shelves come off easily. The freezer is a little small but the drawers are very handy.  Show details

Broken door handle, expensive to replace. Product fault – After only a few years of of normal use the fridge door handle snapped off. This is a design flaw and there are many other reviews stating the same thing. This should be covered by Westinghouse as it is a fault in the design and is expensive to replace. Other than this it is a good fridge but I wouldn’t buy again. Show details

Great fridge but shoddy door handle - and Westinghouse don't care – Bought my Westinghouse stainless steel fridge a little over four years ago. Great refrigerator, but poorly designed handle supports that break – Seems that this is an issue given the number of reviews about this same problem, and the reviews extend to the poor support from Westinghouse, who have responded where they can. Buyers are not happy about having to pay $160+ for new replacement door handles given the design fault, and knowing that the fault will no doubt reoccur time and time… Read more

again.

The problem appears to be that the handle supports, also called pedestals, mount between the door and handle and are moulded or screwed onto the handle, are not capable of pulling against the pressure that the door seal maintains when opening the door. The handle supports break where they attach to the door fixtures. The handle itself has not broken. I suspect the $160+ is for a handle that has moulded supports as one piece, and if buying both handles for fridge and freezer doors costs between $250 and $350. The set of handle supports include for both the fridge and freezer doors cost between $65 and $92. In both cases, you need to shop around. The Westinghouse part number for the set of handle supports is A02344811PED.

I guess fortunately for me, I purchased a 3-year product care that is still current, and the handle supports have been replaced without any hassle. I dealt with the retailer to make the claim and a local refrigeration company visited my home and ordered replacement handle supports. The handle itself is fine and the supports are screwed on.

Despite replacing the handle supports, I would remain very reluctant to solely use the handle to open the door, but to use the edge of the door as well. Alternatively, the top of the door has a hand grip. I think it would be very pertinent for Westinghouse to redesign the handle supports and/or handle and create a recall for buyers at no cost as the problem arises.

However, my view on purchasing extended warranties should not be necessary. Consumer expectations are that a product such as a refrigerator should last 15-20 years without design problems like this, and should be built into its price to reflect that quality. After all, Westinghouse is a well known and widely used product in the home.

All-in-all, this refrigerator performs as expected. It does however make the occasional weird compressor noise.

Good fridge, but watch out for the handles ! – Whilst I like the fridge, my biggest gripe is the quality of the door handles. Disappointed- company disregard for environmental footprint – 2yrs 3 months after purchase- fridge stopped cooling and freezing (had to defrost it to restart the fridge) I was told the fridges defrost element was still functional, but fridge needed a new computer- Replaced at a high cost. after further investigation I was informed that the Product had a design flaw, unit was unable to circulate air around evaporator efficiently resulting in fridge not being able to self defrost. In order to rectify this the evaporator mount would need to be lifted and the fan would also have to be readjusted (as per company product service bulletin), again at a high cost. As this product is now out of warranty and repairs are not guaranteed as further faults may occur, I am seriously considering purchasing a new fridge (and it definitely will not be a Westinghouse or Electrolux!!!!!) Massive massive footprint, absolutely appalled at how consumer products in todays world have such a short life expectancy, especially since environmental impact is such a global hot topic. So So disgraceful.

Terribly noisy fridge. Brand new but sounds like it's been used for decades? Save yourself the troub – Bought the fridge over the weekend, delivered yesterday. noisy. I've changed 4 fridges in the last 15 years, never had such a noisy fridge. Had a circa 1970 fridge back in uni days and make the same level of noise - it's just not acceptable in this day and age!

Informed harvey norman, they said it's normal. They said they can get someone to look at the fridge, but if the noise is considered normal as they mentioned already, I'll need to pay for the call out fee. I then asked if I can change to a different model, or pay the difference for my old samsung fridge which was simply perfect in terms of being whisper quiet, they said they do not entertain change of mind. It may seem like a change of mind to them, but the noise of the fridge is stuck in my mind! I cannot even enjoy reading my book without having the constant buzz of the fridge in the background, and when it's off you still think it's there! I don't even know how to put across to them it's not a change of mind purchase, I just want a fridge that doesn't sound like it's from the baby boomer's era! Decided to publish my 2 cents after reading other westinghouse fridge reviews of this model and similar models, many complains for being overly noisy. Not impressed whatsoever with westinghouse and harvey norman. I thought I'll try local, and unfortunately didn't pay off. Thanks harvey norman for trying to push this fridge on me when I wanted to get a samsung instead, not sure if they more commission from westinghouse? Now I'll have to try and sell this white elephant on gumtree to keep my sanity literally. Stay away from this model - it's not any cheaper than other Japanese or Korean brands.

However, I must say that the shelving components and the compartments on the door side of the fridge are very useful, and I do like the bottle holding compartment - truly keeps juice and milk bottles in place.

Especially like the fast freeze option. Was able to have our freshly caught fish that was in a slurry of ice, straight into the freezer, then hitting that tab, they froze quickly... I am a fuss pot with my fish

The fridge holds temp well and am pleased with the freshness of veges after a week

Not sure what happened, but the freezer handle came away from the door. I doubt we were rough with it

There is a plastic part contained within the handle that broke. From there, the handle would fall off when open / closing the door.

Got onto hardly normal (Harvey Norman) about our situation. They replaced the handle free. When we received the replacement handle, it was supplied with both fridge and freezer handles. 4 months later, the handles have been fine

Other than that, its all good (thumbs up)
