Substandard product – The fridge was purchased at the Harvey Norman Appliance Centre in their Edgewater (WA) store on the 20th November 2013 for $2999. It started malfunctioning in December 2019, just over six years after the purchase. Samsung was contacted in late December 2019 after which a technician referred by Samsung attended, tested the fridge and deemed it irreparable due to an internal gas leak (we had to pay the $253 invoice). Since then I did some research and apparently in the past copper or aluminium tubing was used in fridges, but these days galvanised steel is used instead. It is cheaper but as most people, and especially fridge manufacturers well know, steel + ice (moisture) = rust. I approached Samsung but they refused to help because the fridge is over five years old. I believe that it is not reasonable for a $2999, high-end, fridge to only work for six years and two months. In fact, advice from the leading Australian consumer advocacy group, Choice, indicates that the life expectancy of a high-end fridge should be 13 years. Unfortunately, the ownership of the Harvey Norman changed so I have no claim against the new owners. The store manager of this new Harvey Norman store was rude and unhelpful and I will not shop in any of the Harvey Norman stores again. I am going to make a complaint to the Department of Commerce against Samsung. I am very disappointed with both Harvey Norman and Samsung. We have numerous appliances from HN and Samsung including mobile phones, but I think it is time to switch. It is disappointing that in this day and age, when we are trying to reduce wastefulness and are concerned about environmental issues, manufacturers such as Samsung and retailers such as Harvey Norman don't care and continue to produce and sell substandard products which only last for a short time and then have to be disposed of.
Purchased in at Harvey Norman Retail Stores - Appliances for $2,999.

Mick, I have made a comment on Facebook already. Disappointing that Samsung needs public shaming to offer any help to their customers. I am waiting for a reply from Samsung on Facebook and will post further updates here as well as on Facebook.
Samsung replied to me via FC and they will not help me. So I guess no more samsung products for me and I am also going to make a formal complaint to the Department of Commerce.
