I have FTTP capable of 500 and was concerned about the process of switching from TPG NBN50. But TPG made the switch easy because their latency had become terrible, waiting sometimes 30 seconds for a browser response. I understand it has to do with how TPG handles routing behind the scene. Checking forums, I learned that I wasn't the only one TPG was doing this to. So a switch was a must. I was blown away by the Superloop customer service, helping me over the phone to make the switch quick and painless. The service was down about 3 minutes and then 500, with a discount for 6 months thrown in. Awesome.

I have seen Superloop reviews here mentioning the termination charge, up to a full months cost, depending on when termination happens. That seems wrong, paying for a period of no service. However Superloop is not alone in doing this; TPG do it to. So it's an industry-wide issue which the ACMA should address. While switch discounts are offered, they usually offset the sting you'll get from the ISP you are leaving. It seems to be the current way the industry operates. So I'm focusing on customer service and whether the speed and latency are acceptable. Five stars for Superloop on that.

A note here on latency: The Superloop idle latency (ping) is 8, double the 4 from TPG But that commonly quoted measurement is not really relevant. What is more important is the download and upload latency which drive browser performance. Superloop has 21 / 10, easily a factor of 10 to 100 times less than what I was getting from TPG. (Admittedly on a lower speed plan) This information should be made part of what the ISP have to publish. (I hope the ACMA is listening)
