Poor design stunts a good mower – I bought this mower after looking around at many other brands. As it had a fabricated deck and commercial drive this influenced my decision, as well… Read more
as being a Kubota. It now has about 103 hours on the meter. The purchase was easy but the delivery took 9 months due to the manufacturing backlog. At first I was impressed with the mower and the fact that it had a 48 inch manufactured deck, not a pressed metal one. The seat is comfortable and the driving position doesn't hurt my back like another brand does as I tend to sit more upright because of the higher steering wheel. I decided to remove the rubber mat, to give it a good clean, only to find that the paint had chipped around one of the bolts. To Kubota's credit they had the deck repainted at the local panel beaters. Since then I have had the brackets that hold the deck to the body break at the deck, the brackets holding the plastic covers over the pulleys driving the blades break. The screws holding the plastic covers onto the brackets come loose and fall off. My opinion is that there are some design faults with the way the brackets are welded onto the deck as there is a thin disk welded to the deck then the brackets welded to the disk. Certainly not strong enough. As for the brackets holding the plastic cover the steel tends to break at the 90 degree bend where it bolts to the deck. Unsure what the metal strength is but not strong enough at that point. I am going to sell it an go electric.

trust in this brand - I wanted reliability, quality and longevity. What I got is a question mark over the product quality of Kubota, a significant machine failure at just 150 hours completely unexpected, and unfair, in my opinion and zero customer support from Kubota. My machine is now 8 years old with very low hours, fully serviced and maintained and always parked in the garage. When I was mowing 6 weeks ago the machine suffered a major failure of the mower deck which rendered the mower inoperable - a bearing failed and a bolt sheared on the deck tension pulley resulting in needing it to be transported into the Kubota dealer and a repair bill of around $1000 including quoted transport. I explained to the Dealer how shocked and unhappy I was at this product failure and requested they liaise with Kubota about covering or sharing the substantial repair cost. Long story short: the dealer was very helpful and offered a rebate on the workshop repair charge. But Kubota were totally unhelpful, useless, had no idea about the concept of customer relationship and refused any financial offset whatsoever on the parts [even a 50/50 split] - this despite my numerous conversations with Kubota's Queensland regional Service manager. Consider my unpleasant experience before you rush out and buy a shiny new $18k Kubota GR2120 -48. Kubota have no idea about customer service / support / interface and will not support you if something goes wrong out of warranty. On top of this my machine came out of the Kubota factory with a faulty paint job - this means that for no apparent reason the paintwork on the metal has progressively bubbled and peeled on the body, not the deck, since new - this is clearly due to quality failure not due to rust or corrosion and my mower is always cleaned underneath after a mow. Buyer beware.
