Unreal little fridge – After buying a dometic cf11 and it subsequently failing after 6months I managed to get a hold of one of these MD14F fridges. It’s set to -11c and for… Read more

24/7 that’s all it’s does. Just works. At 41c ambient it sits in -10.3c. I don’t have to worry about it. It just works. Can’t beat an Engel. Perfect size for a freezer or small fridge. Only thing I don’t like is you have to have a thermometer inside to adjust the temp to where you want it and after getting it right it’s good to go.

No Legend In Reliability – Bought my 32L due to Engel's reputation for reliability and longevity. At only 11 years young, with weekend use once a month, sadly my 32L has died… Read more

due to an apparent blockage in the cooling system. Over $800 to repair, while a new unit costs $1200. I would expect this from a cheaper fridge, but Engel promotes their product as being superior and built to last. I won't be forking out the extra cash for another Engel, as I have friends who've had better longevity from cheaper brands.

Been great! – Now a year out of warranty, being four years old and has always worked perfectly. Will freeze things very quickly when turned on high. Does have a… Read more

few things to be careful with though. The exposed cooling plate that goes right around the vertical walls is made of thin aluminium so you don't want anything hard banging against it. It was the right size to fit into a tight spot on my truck so I can't complain about the thin insulation in the box to keep it compact. It is remarkably tough as it has not suffered from the rough corrugated roads I sometimes use. You can buy a cover to aid the insulation if you have room. Also a top is available to turn it into a fridge freezer. Ideal for keeping stuff frozen from the weekly shopping trip as the trip home is quite long. It cools down enough to keep ice cream frozen in a few minutes. Thank you Engel for this great product!

Engel Reliability and Warranty Service Disappointing – I bought this fridge based on apparent quality and reputation as I had an Engel fridge previously and it lasted a reasonable amount of time, and… Read more

worked well. This unit has now failed after 18 months and has not even been really used. I returned it to the retailer as it is still under warranty, however was referred back to a service agent, who has advised it will require a new cooling unit to be installed. Upon checking there are only 3 service agents covering the whole Melbourne area (50km radius) Engel now expect me to take to a service agent (at my own time and cost) which is a 2 hour round trip and I will need to make another trip again to collect, when it is (eventually) repaired. That will be 4+ hours of my time - I should be able to return through the retailer for a warranty repair. If Engel have such minimal product support, they should have to manage the logistics. I'm not happy with the product failing or the Engel attitude (so far) to making good on a warranty matter - which should not have been necessary for a premium priced product that has hardly been used. Engel should either replace the fridge or arrange to collect, repair and return to me.

Hard to believe – I bought the new 40 l Engel combo recently for my new campervan conversion. After building the base for it I fitted it and connected to 12 V. I noted… Read more

the elevated noise level because I had Engel fridges previously. Interestingly the high pitch noise it produces even without the compressor working is a constant. It's impossible to sleep in the van with it going. Turning it off while sleeping results in the temperature reaching 12 degrees after 6 hours even in cool conditions. While I don't doubt " A LEGEND IN RELIABILITY" , for my application it's useless. While i did some research before buying there was nowhere information provided on this elevated noise level. I doubt that anyone would buy if they would be aware of it, except for hearing impaired people maybe....

the 15 year old engel 40lt is whisper quiet. Can only hope the compressor is balanced enough to last the distance like the old one and doesn't shake itself to pieces. Apart from that it functions just like it should.

This is, perhaps, the worst purchase I have ever made – This fridge was bought in haste when a Vitrifrigo failed through no fault of its own, and I had little choice other than to rush out and buy a new… Read more

fridge. Engel has a good name in the 39l chest fridges, so I reckoned it would be okay. Wrong. 1: There is no interior light— a basic feature in any upright fridge. 2: It will not accept a dozen eggs in the carton they come in, unless stored crossways; think it through, it's not practical to put a dozen eggs crosswise. But my eggs are no longer stored in the fridge, so I manage. 3: As well as being a comparatively noisy compressor, there's a rattle in the door when the compressor is running. I've pulled the decorative panel off the door to try to find it, but I can't find the rattle. Friends have even asked me 'What's that noise?' 4: There is no salad crisper— the Vitrifrigo had one. 5: It will not accept a 2 litre milk container— the Vitrifrigo used to. 6: The catch to keep the door closed is a good idea, but breaks very easily. 7: The compressor is not enclosed within the outline of the cabinet. It sticks out the back, thereby decreasing the depth of the unit even though it occupies the same space— most uprights have a sort of extended lower section given the cabinet more depth. It's my guess that whoever designed this thing is not a user, because these design issues would so easily be sorted. I explained all these problems to the attention of the Engel manager, but he wasn't interested in improving the product, just placating me— he offered to send me a plastic egg container which would fit. Bah!
