dot appear on screen. Then 6 months later screen goes blank and now only comes up with 4 blinks of the status light. This light means there is a fault with 1 of the 3 board in tv. Contacted Sony, they won't do anything, because it's out of warranty. I don't care what they say, it's sad that major manufactures are selling high end products with limited warranty. This leaves customers with no course of action. This TV has cost $700 dollars per year. Now on going to buy lower end product and if it breaks will buy another. Was told Sony make good products

turn off for various reasons, especially Samsung.

TV itself has a sleek design with fancy legs. The remote is straightforward. Although, would have preferred it came with the backlit metal larger version offered in the US. Unfortunate that there is no AV port for older devices.

Blacks are dark enough for us (obviously not an OLED). Google TV is straight forward, although confusing why it's only running Android 10. The free Bravia Core streaming subscription is a bonus.

We primarily use it for streaming, TV, Blu-ray and gaming.

Overall cannot fault it after 5 months of use.

regularly shuts down for no apparent reason and lately we have been getting the white screen of death, which is sometimes hard to come back from. According to Google, Sony Bravia TVs have a life expectancy of 6-7 years which is pretty bad for something with no moving parts - but ours won’t even make that. Sony used to be a top brand but now cheap and rubbishy.

went black. All attempts at resuscitation failed. Sony's warranty is only 12 months, however the ACCC states a TV should last at least 2 years. Harvey Norman have so far been excellent. They have a 24 Months Product Care Replacement arrangement. Had a technician, organised by HN, come out yesterday to assess the device. Process is ongoing as to whether there is a repair or replacement. Not interested in a repair as Sony has lost my confidence, especially when l see the TV was made in Malaysia. No complaints about performance up until failure. However replacement will be a Samsung product.

Title: Extremely Disappointed – Sony Refusing to Honour Warranty & Incorrectly Claiming “Intentional Damage” I am extremely disappointed with Sony’s… Read more

warranty support. My Sony TV, purchased in December 2023, developed a **major internal screen failure** during normal household use. The screen suddenly showed internal cracks and lines with no impact, no misuse, and no external damage.

Despite providing clear photos showing an **internal panel failure**, Sony refused to honour the warranty and claimed the damage was “intentional.” This accusation is completely incorrect and was made **without any evidence**. Sony has not explained how they reached this conclusion or provided any technical assessment to support it.

Under **Australian Consumer Law**, a TV must be of acceptable quality and last a reasonable amount of time. A premium Sony TV failing this quickly is unacceptable, and refusing a remedy by blaming the customer is even worse.

I expected better from a brand like Sony. Their refusal to honour a legitimate warranty claim and their unsupported allegation of intentional damage has left me with a faulty TV and no resolution.

I have now escalated the matter to **Consumer Affairs Victoria** and will continue pursuing my rights under Australian Consumer Law.

Very disappointing experience from a company I trusted.

Good TV very general all-round viewing – This is an “entry” level TV from Sony at a price that is higher than what you would expect from an entry level TV, the field on “Entry level” is wide… Read more

with varying quality at this price point but it seems to punch a little bit above its price in many respects and is a quality TV with many good features.

The X80K is a traditional LCD set with direct LED backlighting, as opposed to the edge-lit TVs you often found in the budget TV’s. This has resulted in a generally better picture quality than I would have expected for this price. It does not, however, quite compare with what you will see on more advanced (and thus more expensive) sets from Sony and other manufacturers.

This was a replacement TV for a family member – it started out as a Panasonic TH65GX600A (failed) replaced with a Samsung UA65TU8000WXXY (failed 18 MThs) and now the Sony – these are all comparable “budget” TV’s (entry level)

This is an IPS panel, not VA panel like the Samsung, but offers wider viewing angles if a tad short on the contrast because of the IPS panel. You do not have to sit front and centre to get the best picture angle and quality, and it does not wash out significantly if you sit wide from centre and retains a very good amount of its picture quality. The Brightness is adequate but not over the top and is good for most rooms, though brightly lit rooms may not suit, but it seems to handle reflections ok. To appreciate its full 4K quality you need to sit close to the TV (up to max. 3 metres). HDR format is HDR10, Dolby vision. Refresh rate is 50HZ with 100hz Smooth motion rate.

Out of the box it has clean lines, is not overly bulky and has thin bezels which makes it look a bit larger than it is. The stand is minimalist, the two-foot style lifts it about 70mm from a cabinet but is it also has 300mm x 300mm Vesa mounting holes on the back for wall mounting. It is very easy to set up – The TV interface is powerful and is the "user friendly" Google TV, very intuitive, navigation menus are clean and effective giving the full range of Google’s capabilities.

Connections: power cable on right hand side of tv, ports on opposite side in a vertical line, all facing out towards the left: 2 USB ports (1 with power max 500ma, the other 900ma) S/PDIF digital audio, yellow video in jack, ethernet port, 2 remote inputs (RS-232C and IR input), coaxial connector and 4 HDMI ports (1 with ARC and eARC) which adhere to 60HZ DHDMI 2.0 spec (no HDMI 2.1)

The remote is minimalist, has no Numerics (no number pad buttons) and the simplified layout puts the controls where you need them – it's easy to use, very responsive and we had no trouble tuning to control additional connected items like set top box, so you can use multiple connected appliances with the one remote. From top to bottom, the button collection comprises: Power, TV, Settings, Inputs, a five-way directional pad, Back, Home, Google Assistant, volume and channel controls, Mute, Play, Pause, and Guide. Below that are four dedicated shortcut buttons for YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video.

Despite some notes in a some reviews about how good the sound is on this TV, whilst it is better than the previous Pana and Samsung equivalent TV’s we had, it can best be described as acceptable or OK sound and distortion starts at around 50% volume – it will get loud but no great quality to go with the volume – for mine I would install a low-cost sound bar to enhance the TV – you will get a lot more bass than what the TV is capable of.

Games play well on this TV which was a bit of a surprise – input lag is around 11MS which is inside the boundary for smooth results – it does not have HDMI 2.1, 120HZ refresh rate and VRR functionality to add more grunt but otherwise it performs very well for the games that have been played on it.

Very happy with this TV for good all-round results with general TV watching, movies and playing games all very acceptable and the TV could be described as very good picture and quality at this price point – if your budget does not extend beyond this TV then you could do a lot worse in this bracket.

Pros: • Well-built and designed remote control • Easy to set up out of the box – very intuitive • Google TV operating system is a Plus • Very good value TV • Mostly very good picture quality – nothing really to complain about • Low input lag (11ms) for gaming • Good number of connections, HDMI, usb etc. • Minimalist foot design for sitting on cabinet • Thin bezels make the TV look a bit larger than it is Cons: • Contrast and brightness not over the top (not a deal breaker though, still good) • Sound is not as good as it could be / should be (distorts over 50%, no great bass) • No HDMI 2.1 or VRR (is a 50hz panel)

Great picture – Not sure about the poor reviews. The picture is excellent and it's great for viewing movies and sport. I find Google tv the most annoying as I can't work how to sort apps and it keeps putting paid apps on the start screen. Show details

Good Value – THE GOOD: This set is great value for money if you are looking for a medium sized screen. Picture quality is great. Remote is clearly marked and… Read more

reasonably easy to navigate. Standby power consumption is minute, half a watt from memory. THE NOT SO GOOD: Sound quality is barely "OK", because it lacks even a simplistic graphic equaliser, so it isn't possible to boost treble, which is a requirement for those of us with any form of hearing loss. (a very significant percentage of the population) It is also NOT able to provide any sound output to an external device, such as bluetooth hearing aids/ headphones, while at the same time having sound from the internal speakers. This is a necessary feature for any audience with a mix of hearing impaired and not hearing impaired. It lacks an RF OUT port (Antenna out) for looping from antenna to TV to PVR.

Summary: (3.5*) It deserves more than 3 stars, but not four stars due to the lack of features on the audio side. With an ageing population, many of whom have or will suffer hearing loss, a lot more thought should have gone into more flexibility/control over sound outputs and frequency band control (graphic equaliser) If the sound issues were sorted out, this would be a five star product.

Never buy Sony, bad customer service and brand ever – I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience with Sony. I purchased a Sony TV expecting high quality and reliable customer service, but I… Read more

have been sorely let down on both fronts.

Within a few months of use, my TV started having serious issues, including screen. When I contacted Sony's customer service, they initially seemed helpful and scheduled a repair. However, the repair technician was unable to fix the problem,he replaced LSD screen but after couple of days i got line in the middle of the screen and it became clear that the TV needed to be replaced.

Despite multiple follow-ups and assurances from Sony, weeks have passed without any resolution. Not only have they failed to repair the TV, but they also refuse to replace it. The customer service team has been unresponsive and unhelpful, leaving me with an expensive, non-functional TV and no idea when or if this issue will be resolved.

I expected much better from a brand like Sony. They left you to contact the third party to repair your TV. This experience has been incredibly frustrating, and I will think twice before purchasing any Sony products in the future. Save yourself the hassle and avoid Sony if you value after-sales support and reliability.

should be noted. The biggest concern is that I just got rid of Foxtel thinking that I can record shows on the TV. I can't believe it but Sony have disabled Recording in Australia. I would never have thought to check that this functionality is available as it has been available on basically all TVs for at least a decade. Such a disappointment. I will probably need to purchase a PVR now to replace the box I had!
