Abel truck hire blatant, soulless, filthy bond scammers. Avoid if you work hard for, or care about your money – AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! familiar to me and I felt comfortable that I was dealing with a very competent reputable company. Oh boy, how wrong could I have been. Please know that if you ever consider using this dodgy scamming pathetic operation that you will not only have the pleasure of hiring the biggest piece of crap of a truck that you will ever drive, but you will also be guaranteed to lose your rental bond. These guys don't even bigger around with waiting for you to return the truck to make up ridiculous areas of damage that you have inflicted on their rubbish truck, no they immediately take the money from your account, like the minute it goes in it is no longer visible in your account. This is not how rental bonds work. You should always be able to see the money in your account, it's just not available to take out.
Now this is where the story gets beyond a joke. The moron that works at the Beenleigh yard spends his time between setting people up to be completely scammed and sitting at the local pub spending more than likely your $500 bond, then can't even drag his grubby pathetic self to the yard when the agreed drop off time is. He just says "it's all good mate, just lock the keys in the truck and leave it on the street." I thought this was very suspect as any respectable business would have had an representative there to go over the truck with me in person at the time of return. I call this idiot after a week passes with no return of my bond and he tells me that everything was fine with the truck and that my bond must be being processed by the bank. Next day... After more than a week since truck was returned I receive an email with somewhere near ten different inconspicuous invisible damages with red circles around them.
Tell me... How can this grub even consider blaming me for any damages at all when he wasn't even there and the yard was closed even though I returned the truck half an hour before I was due to drop it off? and well before close of business. Please for your own sake avoid these disgraceful humans and their absolutely disgusting business for your own sanity.
My lawyer is currently writing up paperwork to be sent to court so we can shine a very bright light on this scam and we will not be seeking the return of my rental bond, we will looking to have the court do a complete audit on all of their shonky operations. I must say I am looking forward to seeing them cop massive fines and my real end goal for this case is to have them put out of business. My mistake, due to the rush that I was in need of the truck, I didn't check feedback on the "company" (scam.) Had I have the time I would have ran a mile. There is just page after page of the same disgraceful activities on this company's part with two or three clearly self authored good reviews. If I could leave negative ten thousand stars I would. Good service, would use again – We hired a 3 tonne truck from Abel using online website for 24hrs to move house. Really glad we did that (instead of a ute), it was just right for what we needed for 3bed home with relatives helping us pack and move. Will be using same service when we shift again. and furniture sliding around everywhere, not just protecting them from scratches. It also meant we could load furniture close together or nestle inside each other, which we couldn't do without the blankets.
My only suggestions for improvement would be when booking online if Abel could:
- allow being able to hire more than 10 moving blankets (its a drop-down selection of 1 to 10 blankets only), and
- showing the opening hours on the email receipt and make mention whether you need to come a bit earlier than that to do the paperwork - we booked it at 12pm on saturday which is exactly when they close on saturday - if we had not turned up slightly early, it would have been closed and we would have been stuck.

They encouraged me to take photos of the truck before i left for my piece of mind.Craig was very clear about how things work on the truck before i left.i was informed tolls and how to pay and also payed the extra $37 for an extra 100km as the first 100km is free but i new i be doing around 150km for piece of mind..i also recommend paying that little bit more for insurance also for piece of mind..after reading the review's i found people had a bad experience but if follow all the clear conditions you wont have a problem. were told we could speak to Steve but he was a no show. I have called his number, left a message and sent an email. He has ignored everything.
Poor public relations – Abel hires lawn maintenance people that start mowing lawns at ~0600 hours, across from people's homes. This is continuing to happen despite having discussed with contractor as well. This is very poor public relations and does not garner good feelings about this company.
The owner is so unpredictable – I quit my existing job to work with Abel Greenslopes office and was assured by owner (Steve) that he will provide me with around 30 hrs/week. But initially after giving 2 hrs/day for 5 days and then on 6th day he asked me to leave and not come again. He never explained me the reason, not even discussed any plans or asked me to improvise anywhere.… Read more
I feel very betrayed by the owner on his words. He just trained me for 12 hrs and just at the 13th hour he asked me to leave. SO unprofessional and Unethical!!!!

Avoid truck rental from this company! – Booked a truck online, booking went through OK, no flags were raised. Was chosen because depot is close to us. We went to collect on 10th March and were told we could not rent the truck as we were over 65. Something to do with insurance. We had to supply a $500 bond. on 11th march we filled the truck up before de-hire, and found that the vehicle took much more fuel than it should have, clearly the truck was NOT full when we collected it. Dividing the number of kilometers by the litres of fuel we purchased gave the truck a usage of 2 klms per litre of fuel. The guy at the desk could not have cared less. We then asked for our $500 deposit back, and was advised it will take 30 days. The whole experience was distasteful and distressing, will never book with Abel again.

were bumps and scratches when we got it, but they tried to say we did it… and to make it worse, they tried to make me sign a document that I agreed to it. They said I had to pay them $4500 for the minor damage. I was in shock and refused to sign anything. Yelled at them and walked out.
I received emails from them hounding me for 5 months after. Never replied to not one of them. Eventually I stopped receiving them. They left me alone.
NEVER EVER SIGN ANYTHING IF THEY CLAIM YOU DID SOMETHING TO THEIR VEHICLE AND YOU KNOW YOU DIDNT.
Charge deposit for damage secretly weeks after rental – Charged me the deposit of $500 many weeks after rental without providing evidence. When disputed, it’s a damage for smaller amount of $275, which I still have not provided the evidence for. Reviews my own pictures, there are no such damage. Experience was good but they desperately need a new fleet – I've rented trucks from Abel a number of times before and it's always been a good experience. hanging by a single bolt (which wasn't detectable when collecting the truck) and almost fell off. This meant that door could be used at all, which made un/loading a nightmare. The brake pedal was also very soft and the fuel gauge didn't work properly. The latter resulted in receiving a truck that wasn't full, and me filling it more than necessary upon return. I get that they need to maximise the truck's usage to pay its way, but this one was long overdue for replacement. To Abel's credit, they accepted the feedback.

Definitely avoid – Charged $250 for "damages" to the driver's side. We did not hit anything. I'd strongly suggest avoiding this company if you don't want to incur any fictional damage charges. Definitely not a budget hire company if they can charge $250 for no reason at all. assume that she would be able to have use of it up 4pm the following day, as she had paid for 24 hours. Wrong. AFTER paying, she was notified by the man at reception that she would have to bring it back at 11am the following day as they close at 12. Disgruntled, she was shown around the truck by a different man who told her that she doesn't have to bring it back by 11am, and that she can return it at 4 if she parked it on the road outside the yard and proceeded to show her where the key return box is located. By 11am the next day, we were getting calls enquiring the whereabouts of the truck. We came to an agreement where we would not incurr any extra charges or fees as we were not at fault as we only followed employee instruction. Three days later, my credit card was charged the full amount for a second time and we also noticed our deposit refund had exceeded the expected wait time. In regards to the deposit, we were informed that the money is in the bank's hands and is out of their control. When I called my bank to query it, to my surprise, ABEL had claimed the deposit for themselves! They have given us no notice or reasoning for this as no misconduct nor damage was done to the vehicle. The deposit and double charge are currently being investigated by the bank. As for the double charge, we have been promised time and time again on the countless phonecalls we have made to them over the past six weeks that admin or the owner would contact us to resolve the issue but they have made ZERO contact with us. We are now working with the Fair Trade Ombudsman and looking into opening a case with QCAT. Anyone who has had a similar experience with this company is encouraged to do the same. Looks like they are going down the pan and are doing all in their efforts to take every dollar that comes close to their hands.

Check the fuel tank, not the dashboard fuel pointer before getting the vehicle – Vehicle was in relatively good condition. Reception staff was good at Greenslopes office, but the vehicle delivery guy's language(tone) was bit commanding. It looks like he is threatening instead of explaining about how to use the vehicle. full tank of fuel as it's full on the delivery. He just showed me the vehicle dashboard where it shows the tank was full. In reality, the tank had few liters less fuel ( i believe 5 Litres less) and the dashboard pointer won't show that difference. He explained how to fill the fuel to full tank when I return the vehicle. Also he told me (in the same threatening tone) that if the tank is not full on return, they are going to charge me $5 per liter for the fuel that is 3 times more than ongoing rate as they have to go to fuel station to fill it. I used the vehicle 60 km only and i had to pour in 10 liters of fuel to fill up the complete tank at the point when it started pouring out of the tank. On return, When I asked about the mileage of the vehicle I hired, this delivery guy told me that the mileage of the vehicle is around 18km/ltr (It's 25km/ltr on paper by vehicle manufacturing company). That means i had to fill at the max only 5 liters of the fuel but I ended up filling 10 liters. When asked about this, this commanding guy just went shut and spoke no word. I also gave him the receipt from the fuel station which was of just 10 minutes before the return. In this whole matter, money is not important as i didn't pay more than $10 extra for the fuel. The important thing was how to deal with customer and honesty on what you say to customers. I understand that some guys have naturally got such kind of commanding tone while they speak but you know , the customer always comes first and needs to be dealt with patience and care to avoid getting reviews here.
Fraud and lies caught out – Claim minor damage and refused to give itemized information of the costs and tried to keep the full 500$ deposit. Repeatedly told they don't supply or have to. HAD to approach the ACCC for help and then they quickly same day refunded me when i threatened to go to a lawyer. Dodgy dodgy dodgy. On my previous truck hire I was charged $55 for going through toll road and most of that money is “administration fees”.
On my last truck hire They charged me $110 for being one hour late.
I told them I’m you client and have hired trucks multiple times but they didn’t care.
I definitely don’t recommend them to anyone unless you want to waste your money.
Worst rental company – Absoloute worst rental company I've ever deal with. Unpleasant staff who never got back to me, and never provided documentation for outcome after minor damage was done to side bumper rail. Tried to charge me for extra kilometers when proof of fuel receipt showed the truck only needed $10 to refuel. Wouldn't trust them ever again, they will try to get extra money from you any way they can.

politely that on their door is notes they open at 7am and I was just popping the car back. Again, rudely and inappropriately I was told by a lady (who wasn't in a uniform like the other staff members) that the signs were wrong. I'll also add she rolled her eyes, looked me up and down and then stared at me until I left the office. At 7:30 the gates were fully open where 4 people turned up to collect vehicles, I waited in line until a nice staff members said I could just leave the keys with him and he would email me a receipt. To date I have not received a receipt via email. I was aware I would be charged extra for the kms I did, but unsure exactly what my extra kms were HOWEVER Abel have been quick to charge me $19.00!!! I am very appalled at how I was spoken to especially because if the lady was the manager of the store only poor customer service and inappropriate behaviour was demonstrated. A simple, sorry we are still closed the signs are incorrect but we will be with you as soon as possible would have been fine! I still await the email detailing what the additional charge was for! I would suggest you update your signs and website to reflect correct informaion. I note from online reviews Abel has previously been charged for misleading information.
Scams – Please do yourself a favor dont even think about renting from them. They are three Biggers scams on terms and conditions they will charge $110 more after dropping the truck/car back taken from your credit card without notice or even says why no body will even bother to explain. Please don't go thought my experience it's not about the money but the felling of been ripped off

& from properties I owned required semi-regular truck hire), I became quite aware of some of Abe's quite creative & questionable profit-making techniques and also learnt of the owner's antics, through 1.conversation with other customers while waiting to be served, 2.reading regarding their aptly named owner (refer the last word of the title of this post) in the papers (scan the web, I know detail that would be concerning for Able customers could still be found quite recently) & 3.the warnings of friends & family. This awareness kept me shielded, I thought, while on more-than-a-few occasions I watched as others returning vehicles at the same time as myself stood rigid with shock when unexpectedly presented with an inflated final account.
Abe's tactics have however, this time, trumped my "I THOUGHT" and as I will not return the truck until tomorrow, I am yet to feel the full extent of their deviousness.
Booked a rigid truck via phone, the customer service person advising me how fortunate I was to "get the last available truck".. (I must be a very fortunate person, as I seem to get the last truck nearly every time I ring to book).
The next day I collected the truk: Lots of external damage {took photos), air con' works fine, RHS tail light housing is cracked & bulb has blown, rear cargo door RHS has missing bolt and is loose, but otherwise truck is functional.
Two days later I spoke with the branch 2IC, extending the rental by 2 days. The next night, after Abel's trading hours, the same (now distressed sounding) 2IC rang my mobile to warn me that as he had had the day off, the other staff members were unaware I had extended & so, at the direction of the owner and certainly without any authorisation from me whatsoever, used the details taken at the time I collected the truck and withdrawn 7, 000 dollars from my savings account & will not entertain returning it to my account until my rental term was complete. My perfect payment history counts for nothing. The fact that the communication error was Abel's internal operations fault & has been clarified, counts for nothing. 7, 000 dollars (my keyboard won't type a dollar sign, sorry) has been taken from my account without authorisation, or fair reason (illegally) & the owner says he will return this money when the rental is finished.
These actions are far from legal & I have never heard of any other legitimate business conducting this type of activity.
Steer clear of Abel Car Rentals.
Able to Rip you off... go to a more professional business this one is terrible – Able rent a Rip off - Do you think they care not likely 50 terrible reviews to a few of there own reviews... says it all. Pick up early cannot drop off at the same day after 12 get in early the next day...30mins. As soon as you walk in time to return is listed even if it takes 35 mins to do the paper work and check the truck.
