Would give zero stars if I could! ACE RENTALS in Wellington NZ were so awful to deal with. The “Manager” was rude and unhelpful!!! Go elsewhere if you’re wanting a smooth and positive experience. Show details
Very straightforward process - booked online to pick up in Hobart CBD (same as Hertz). Uploaded license details etc beforehand and was provided with a nearly new Corolla (I think this is a "standard" car, so an upgrade from the "compact" I ordered). Couple of minor scuffs on it which I took photos of and showed the person at reception. Drop off… Read more
near Launceston Airport was hassle free and I was promptly dropped off at the airport via shuttle car. Very happy with the car and the service.

I booked a car rental through Trip.com with Ace rental cars (Dec 30-Jan 2) and the experience was incredily frustrating. When we arrived to pick up the car, we were told we needed a second form of ID- like a tenancy or utility bill agreement which were never mentioned during our booking process. On top of that, they demanded a $1,000 bond that we… Read more

We drove off 40 minutes back home to get those documents and returned. After a long wait here and there the reception still said wasn't Good enough!!
After for about an hour to 2 wasting hours and our efforts ups and down. He advised us to contact Trip.com for a refund as he said he could not do any solution to it as none cancellation and none Refundables!! Completely unacceptable. Would not ever recommend.

Am i travelling in a Third world Country!!! Because Today on the collection of my Kia carnival with Ace rental cars, the Reception won't pass us the keys to our pre-booked Car with Ace rental months ago!!! Beware of this company's insurance. Ace is a subsidiary of Hertz. In May, we rented a vehicle from Ace Rental Cars in Perth. Everything went well. They picked us up from the airport terminal and drove us to their office, the staff were good, and the Subaru Forester we hired was new and in immaculate condition. I didn't pay the company's… Read more
expensive Collision Damage Waver (CDW) fee, as we had travel insurance that covered the $5900 excess.
As luck would have it, a few days later we were hit by another car from behind while stationary in traffic. I took the other driver's details, took photos of the vehicles, and immediately informed the company of the accident. The other driver's car was uninsured.
As the damage was minor (see photos), we elected to keep driving the vehicle to the end of the rental period.
On returning the car, some paperwork was completed and the company charged the entire excess to my credit card. I wasn't particularly worried about this at the time, as the damage was minor and I clearly wasn't at fault. They'd assess the damage and return the balance to me. Of course they would!
So, I'm contacted by the Ace and I fill out an "Accident Version and Diagram Form." They sent me the damage assessment which comes just shy of $1400. I claimed this on my travel insurance, and that amount was promptly reimbursed to me.
I emailed Ace to ask when they will refund the $4500 balance of excess. I was informed that, according to the 40 page "Terms and Conditions of Rental" document, they can hold the entire amount until at fault other party pays up!
Ace have confirmed that they regard the other driver at fault. They have been compensated by me and my travel insurance for the cost of repairing the vehicle, so effectively are "not out of pocket." However, they can't give me any estimate of how long the process will take, or even if I'll get me money back if the other party doesn't pay.
In my opinion, Ace's Rental Terms are unethical and may be violation of the Unfair Contract Terms provisions in Australian Consumer Law.
I'm in the process of hiring another car for an upcoming trip. I've checked some other company's rental terms and, as far as I can tell, they don't have conditions that allow them to indefinitely hold a customer's money.
Buyer beware!

Follow-up · No apologies, I was left stranded in LA. Missed the wedding, I travelled internationally for as other car companies could not accommodate me in time. Ace car rental should be prohibited from conducting any business. Their business model is to screw you for any profit they can make.

We cannot fault the service we received from this company. We picked up our mystery car in Melbourne and dropped off in Adelaide 5 days later. Shuttles to and from the airports was efficient and friendly. I would highly rate them. Show details
Fantastic Customer Service – Fantastic customer service backed up by great quality cars at reasonable prices. Karen in reception was a pleasure to deal with and extremely helpful. I could not ask for anything more! Show details
Fantastic Ace Rentals – Perth Airport. Hired Camry or similar and ended up with upgrade to near new Subaru Forrester which was clean and spotless. Arrived with Virgin. Shuttlebus arrived on our arrival to take us to Car hire depot. Check-in was quick and easy. Drop off was outside hours but easy. Only 5 minutes walk to Qantas. Going to Virgin would have required a taxi. Overall, I couldn't fault Ace Rentals Perth. Show details

Completely rubbish. I was stranded at Melbourne airport, along with a couple who had also "booked" a car. Their shuttle booking service just said "no shuttle service in the area, try again later". Nobody was answering the phone. I'm now on the Skybus heading into town. Show details

I would advise strongly against using Ace Car Rental - our hire was a disaster and cost us $200!! We hired a car through booking.com for 4 days out of Sydney from Ace several weeks in advance and paid for in full. A couple of weeks out our flight changed by a few hours which meant Ace would be closed when we got there. I called Ace and they said… Read more
simply to come on the next morning and the car would be waiting. They advised notes would be on the computer and we did not need to do anything further. I adked fir confirmation in writing and was advised this could not be done. It was unnecessary as the changes had been made. We arrived on the day only to be told we had been a ‘no shiw’ the day before. NO notes on the computer, no record of the change. Ace blamed booking.com! Booking.com blamed Ace! We had to start from scratch, book and pay for another car and booking.com took our original payment, NO refund. It was a mutual blame game and we, the customer were in the middle. Ace were not prepared to accept any responsibility. The wait time at the office was long. I would NEVER use Ace again and I would strongly suggest not using booking.com but booking direct with a REPUTABLE rental company.
My Family and I hired an 8seater car, KIA for our 1 week adventure Trip in Perth but UNFORTUNATELY, but upon collections , the En.....dian staff said said we did not provide sufficient licenses and Registrations so he couldn't let us the car and just like that we missed Our 1- whole week FAMILY TRIP!!! Worst car rental company I have ever used. Drop off in hobart, no airport shuttle offered, even though the airport drop off was temporarily closed. It added an unexpected $80 taxi fare to the senario. To say they didn't care would be a gross understatement. I highly recommend avoiding ace at all cost. Show details
Disappointed – Pathetic!! Pathetic!! Just got a car from them. We hired a large car and they gave us hatchback for nearly $400. We were charged for corolla and we got mazda2. And when we confronted they said and did nothing. Never book from them. Neverre
DO NOT RENT FROM ACE CAR RENTAL IN SYDNEY! ATROCIOUS AND DISHONOURABLE COMPANY – Like many others in this forum, i was scammed for around $300 for a car I had prepaid. When I arrived at the Sydney Airport Ace Car Rental office, the lady at the counter refused to acknowledge my international driving permit, and my digital driving license issued by government. She told me to stand aside, and call booking.com to solve my problem.… Read more
She can't even tell the difference between booking.com and rentalcars.com where I booked the vehicle. I was left stranded without a vehicle and she kicked us out of the office. I went to the city and had no problems at all renting from AVIS who was very professional and polite. Please be careful as this company is very dishonourable and don't be fooled by their cheap prices. I never got my refund back anyway.
Blatant rudeness – Very rude customer service at Ace Rentals Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport. I’m traveling interstate and cancelled my hire on the spot due to customer service. I’ll use another carrier rather than put up with rudeness.
Avoid Hertz /ACE hire Brisbane Austalia – My wife hired a car in Brisbane, car was in an accident - full excess taken off the credit card. Actual costs as per forwarded invoice was less than excess. See ACE name, do yourself a favour RUN AWAY! – See ACE name, RUN AWAY! This has been the worst car rental experience I’ve ever encountered. To make matters worse, I was charged again for delivery at the airport, even though our… Read more
contract stated the vehicle would be picked up and delivered at Adelaide Airport.
I was charged nearly double the amount on my invoice and now I’m left chasing a mysterious third party for the overcharge—who I have no idea how to contact.
To top it off, there’s no physical branch at Adelaide Airport for vehicle pickup. I discovered they subcontract to Hertz and don’t deal directly with customers at all! When I tried to get help, I found there was no contact number available.
Every time I emailed with a complaint, they simply replied saying they have no responsibility. If you see the ACE name, do yourself a favor and RUN AWAY! Save yourself the headache and choose a rental company that actually cares about their customers.
Shuttle driver! very bad – Ace Rental cars Melbourne Airport. The company is doing great with the competitive price. I can see from other states' reviews! Pick up! Shuttle Driver - This position is the First point of contact for customers using shuttle bus service to use what the company is formed for. The driver's bad behaviour should not be the reason to make… Read more
travellers' day go bad. Check in is required to use the shuttle unlike other car rentals I have used. This is OK, I respect the company's policy, but the driver and his gesture was unacceptable.
Counter! At the counter, if this is the first time, we are required to present 2 additional address verifications which are less than 3 months old. Utility, insurance bill, etc but no bank statement. Unlike other rentals, the address that is on the valid driving licence issued by Vic Road is not valid, but still needs to be provided. I find this very frustrating but at that point my priority is to stay calm and get the car to go along with my day.
Vehicle Return Same shuttle Driver! I drove towards the sign that says rental car return. When the shuttle bus arrived, he rushed out of his shuttle van and came towards me and said “you can't park there” with his very rude language. I said there is the sign rental car return, he said “no you can't park here, you have to park there” pointing to a random spot. We parked in the direction where he showed. I then went to the counter to drop the keys, handed them to the person behind the counter, we had a thumbs up, he asked if the fuel was topped up, I said yes, second thumbs up! I then went towards the shuttle to return to the airport, this same driver said, “did you have the car checked?” I said No, what car check, the guy behind the counter gave me thumbs up so I am good to go. But, Alas, this shuttle driver went back to the counter, got the key and took time to check the vehicle. This was very painful, and absolutely unnecessary for one shuttle driver to do that return car check. Especially when The Ace car rental provides an after hour key drop and my reservation was $0.00 excess. That point I was deeply upset, but all I could do was to wait and let one shuttle driver complete the vehicle return check and we had to wait until he completed for him to drive us back to the airport.
I request the company to carefully investigate and provide training, provide and review consequences of failing to keep up with the driving job he is supposed to do, particularly to this one driver on shift at Melbourne Airport Friday 9th August 10:00 AM and Sunday 11th August 10:00 AM.
Customer facing jobs are not fit for everyone. I suggest if the driver doesn't like job there are people waiting for that job to do happily, especially when the primary job is to drive a 10 min shuttle van. It could have been time for the driver to move on, it is not good for his mental health and he certainly does not have any rights to affect others.
The shuttle Driver successfully ruined both my pickup and return experience. I did not come out of the house that morning to have him make my day go bad.

Worst car rental I have ever experienced- dont be tempted by the price – They may be cheap but they make their money with the extra charges they rack up when you drop off. Things to watch for: - Photograph the inside of the car, including stains on seats and door trims, fingerprints on screens and state of carpet mats. I washed the car through a car wash in the morning of return. I cleaned the marks off the doors and… Read more
screen that I inherited and didnt comment on when I picked up. I overlooked the 10cm cluster of crumbled leaf litter stuck on a small section of the drivers side carpet. That cost me another $75.00. I was the only user of the car, it was used locally on city roads. The car was wet when I picked it up, it had just been washed. I opened the door and did comment on the dirty upholstery, Roni told me that the car had been steam cleaned. The following day the sun showed the screen was covered in finger prints (I had yet to use the screen) and I then also noticed the fabric on the passenger door trim also was stained. I felt like I was in a cheap car. - Don't be late when you drop off. I was 48 minutes late and was charged $100. The car was advertised at $45 per day for hire. I suggested that I would bring it back tomorrow if the car was available. I was refused.
Charged me illegally – They had waived a drop off fee of $50 in their office, it was then charged from my account days later. Maybe they thought I wouldn't notice.
I originally wrote a great review for them, but be warned – I wrote a review saying how happy we were with the car and service. At the time I read the reviews were people had difficulty recouping their deposits, and other charges being made. Unfortunately, the same has happened to me. Months later, I'm still trying to get my deposit back from them. They don't respond to emails or calls. This isn't an… Read more
oversight when I've now contacted them on multiple occasions. It's not a great deal of money, though that's not the point. The deposit should have been returned within 7 days as promised, not me chasing it up months later with no response from the company.
Good value & service, get what you pay for – Overall they were good to deal with, didn't have any issues. The actual depo for the cars is off site (thus why it's so much cheaper than other car hire places, was for us anyway). Getting the shuttle was pretty simple, didn't have to wait long but it did make the day a lot longer with the rest of the travel so you need to weigh that up against… Read more
cost!
We got charged $55 on credit card a few months after the hire which was for an infringement notice - the $55 was for admin processing fee (which they emailed an invoice) and then the fine was sent to us via email (so if you get this charge watch your email haha). I don't mind this but it would be good to get the processing invoice BEFORE we are charged otherwise you have this random charge that you have to follow up. I called them and they were super helpful and explained it. I wonder how many of these calls they get which could be easily avoided, even just a courtesy email would be fab.
well won't do it again – Paid insurance twice Hertz would accept Ace insurance in Launceston airport. Ace booked me a Hyundai I30 was given a creepy Kia Rio winch was really useless in the mountains! Show details
Absolutely appalling – I booked a rental car for me and my family and because I had lost my physical card they wouldn’t give me the car I had pre paid for. wouldn’t take it and it was really upsetting there was no backup plan for us. We were left stranded, didn’t get taken back to the airport and there was absolutely no lee-way around this. I had to cancel my booking and wait in the cold with my kids as well I’m 30 weeks pregnant and it was just so overwhelming trying to figure out what to do next in a foreign place. It was also 5pm so I felt like all they wanted to do was go home rather then help us. They did nothing! We were refused Ubers because we didn’t have a car seat that I would have had if I had got the rental car.. Sydney ACE car rentals was the place, the supervisor was very rude and had absolutely no care for the situation. I tried so hard to try and pay them the bond but because it didn’t have my name on it we were left literally stranded. I don’t know what else to say but I’m disgusted, would have been less upset if they considered my children or that I’m 30 weeks pregnant but nope absolutely nothing.
The mind boggles! – To give you an idea of how horrendous this company is to deal with, I just received a call from a debt collector employed by Ace, claiming that I owe them money, from a car rental I returned and paid in full for, well over 1 year ago. I've had zero communication from them in all that time to even suggest that there was anything outstanding. In… Read more
fact I went to some lengths at the time to ensure everything was sorted out as their billing system was wildly confusing and had many irregularities including occasionally being double charged.
At the time I thought they were just disorganised and incompetent however this little scenario has me wondering what is really going on within this company. Given they are owned by Hertz, one of the largest car rental companies on the planet, I would expect a little more professionalism and at the very least, to operate legally.
Do NOT do it to yourself – If I could give 0 stars I would… I have never been so disgusted with the lack of empathy or assistance I experienced this morning. and was told the bus wouldn’t be there til 830am. - The shuttle arrived and the driver was rude. - I was asked to present my license and bank card. - I got my card out and displayed my license using the ‘Service NSW’ app. (A legal doc) - I was told they could not accept it as they could not physically ‘see’ the card. - I was asked to present a document to tie me to my address. I scrolled my emails and found: 7 x invoices with my address, my PayPal account, my mortgage repayment, bank statement, a letter from the minister, solar bill etc. I was told none of these were valid. I asked why not and was told ‘you can give those businesses whatever address you want- we can’t accept it’ - Jennifer (worker) then said to me ‘I can see your frustrated, give it to me, I can take it’ Seriously???? I then walked outside- visibly upset and stressed by the whole situation trying to think of anything that could help. - When I came inside ‘Jennifer’ asked ‘Taylor’ to speak with me ‘in case she becomes upset again’ - I was told they’d gone out of their way to help me and that unless I could produce what they’d asked, I wasn’t getting the car. Taylor then became rude and dismissive when I asked for a refund and said we may not get one as we’d booked through a 3rd party (online the night before- a learning for me). - I asked if I went to another company would this happen and was told ‘they’ll be doing themselves a disservice if they accept your digital license’. - I then asked if I could be taken back to the airport. - I left upset and anxious about how I was treated and the fact I was meant to have already been at the hospital to pick my husband up so we could get home to our kids. - On the way back the shuttle bus driver was rude. - Upon returning to airport, I approached Hertz, they immediately organised me a car with no questions asked re my digital lisence. - Hertz took me straight out to get the car in the shuttle bus so I could get my husband. - When I called to ask for their names this afternoon because I was going to make a complaint- I was told ‘oh that’s excellent’ and Taylor hung the phone up. Absolutely appalling. Being a person who books budget cars for a living isn’t something many aspire to be - but if they both wanted to be in a position of power - they should’ve aspired to something other than their current role. I am not used to being around people who are that unhappy within themselves that they actively try and complicate simple things for people just trying to get home/go about their daily lives. Never again will we use this service and I will NEVER recommend them to anyone.
