Went in to see what I could get for an engagement ring. Got told that they pay one tenth the value and then didnt even get offered that. The ring was $9000 and got offered $600. Saw similar pieces for over $5k. The main stone alone in my ring is worth $4k and there are another 38 stones in the piece. 1 Carat VS2 Colour I. She didnt even look at… Read more

the GIA certificate. My asking price was $3k. I probably would have taken $2k but to be offered virtually nothing for a $9k ring. Don't sell here. Certainly dont buy here with their 1000% mark up.

Beware of this company My sister (who lives in 24 hour care) recently visited Adelaide Exchange Jewellers and paid $10 for a valuation and quote on a family diamond ring. She was told that the stones were not diamonds and that the ring was only 9ct gold - this was a lie. Based on this assessment, she was offered $155. This came as a significant… Read more

surprise to our family, as the same ring had previously been valued in the UK in 2001 (25 years ago) by a reputable jeweller at £720.

Given the large difference between the previous valuation and what she was told on this occasion, we would strongly recommend that anyone in a similar situation seeks multiple independent valuations before making any decisions.

Don’t take your coins to Adelaide Exchange Jewellers as they are rude and talk to you like you are st^pid. Went into the Adelaide City branch with a coin collection, produced my first coin to a female worker who was talking to another staff member… Read more

and I think she was annoyed I broke up her conversation. The coin was a (2013 ‘C’ Mintmark QEII Purple Coronation coin in card UNC) this coin is worth about $500 average. The female shop worker said to me it is only worth face value of $2. Obviously this person has NO idea what she was talking about and definitely NO knowledge of coins and their value. I explained to her that she didn’t know what she was talking about and duly walked out of the shop. The Female worker went straight back to the person she was talking too and carried on her personal conversation. You have been warned that Adelaide Exchange Jewellers staff are rude, arrogant and have NO skills or knowledge of their job role. Don’t waste your time with these people!

Follow-up  · I have a collection of about 300 coins collected over 20 years pre decimal and post decimal mixture. I visited the shop around 11.00am that day and there were about 4 shop workers there at the time. The Female worker that came over to me was chatting with a fellow worker and I felt like I had interrupted their chat. After I told her she had no… Read more

Adelaide Exchange Jewellers Mitcham – I had a fantastic experience with the delightful Muna at Adelaide Exchange Jewellers in Mitcham. She was incredibly helpful and transparent in her dealings, ensuring I received the best price for my unwanted gold chain. I highly recommend doing business with them.

I would have had a more ethical experience dealing with a junkie. Rude condescending woman in the Glenelg store today. Looking down her nose at us like she was better than us. There was no pleasantries like hello or goodbye. I won't be coming back here again if that's the way staff treat you. As if she's better than everyone else - it was like the scene out of pretty woman. Disgusting. I'm not a hobo… Read more

They have the products but certainly lack client service. Have only dealt with the Glenelg store but after several encounters with miserable rude staff I’m over it and will find another bullion dealer.

A waste of time – So disappointing. I asked for a quote to sell an emerald cut, white gold, engagement / wedding ring ring set which I had bought from the USA. It was valued by a certified jeweller, NOT the business which sold me the ring. They valued it at $US6000 which equated to almost $AUD8000 at the time. Although I had mislaid the certification I expected at… Read more

least half that as a valuation. Adelaide Exchange offered me a mere $500, and when I queried the low amount I was told that diamonds have a higher mark up value only when sold. In other words, they do not hold their value? This has taught me a valuable lesson - do not invest in diamonds and do not trust advertising.

Rude staff at Mitcham Again – I attended the Mitcham Store to sell gold and was advised by the worker that the $ value was $70 under current value of gold. I queried this and showed her the current price on the gold exchange and she stated "well you'd better go there then" and laughed in my face RUDELY . I left the shop immediately and asked her if she was always this rude to… Read more

customers. I then checked the buy price on their web site and it was showing $6 under the REAL buy price. Anyway thats the second time I've encountered the arrogant staff at this premises and I wont be back. If you look at the reviews on this business Im amazed that the management havent done something about it. At the end of the day Adelaide Exchange is just a glorified pawnbroker.

Disgusting rudeness – I took my 11yo old son into the Modbury store, He wanted to invest in 1oz of gold as his money in the bank is not keeping up with inflation. A extremely rude old hag looked at him, and said "he is" and raised her had to several different hights indicating he was short. FAKE DIAMOND BANGLE – I never intended to write this review but feel that potential shoppers need to be made aware of what happened to me and how it was dealt with. At the end of July I purchased a ‘Diamond bangle’ from Adelaide Exchange Jewellers Modbury store for several thousand dollars. Within a month a ‘Diamond’ fell out, which was obviously very disappointing.… Read more

I took it to a local jeweller who advised that he didn’t think it was diamonds, which was then confirmed by a jewellery valuer - it was actually CUBIC ZIRCONIA. Upon returning it to Adelaide Exchange Jewellers I dealt with a pleasant staff member who contacted me two days after I returned the bangle, obviously having to consult with their own jeweller. Their jeweller confirmed the opinion of the valuer. I was offered a selection of three other bangles at a slightly reduced price and another at a much more reduced price I was also offered my money back less $720 if I wanted to keep the cubic zirconia bangle and I was also offered a full refund, which I opted for - I was also given a small box of chocolates! At all times when I was in the store I spoke quietly and respectfully so that other customers were unaware of the unfortunate situation I had encountered. (Fortunately a stone fell out so soon after purchase - otherwise I would have not known of this potential fraud until it was perhaps to late to return it)

I emailed the owner a few weeks later advising that I was extremely disappointed that he had not bothered to contact me to offer an apology or an explanation as to how this happened. As I pointed out to the owner in my email I have bought a number of items at Adelaide Exchange Jewellers over many years and I was hoping he maybe able to restore my confidence with an explanation so I might be able to continue to shop there with confidence and recommend to others. Unfortunately, nearly six weeks later, I have not heard from him.

As I said, I never intended to write a review but I feel that as I have given the owner ample opportunity to contact me with an explanation it is in the best interest of others that I write this review. Buyer beware!

Traders of Non Communication – A disgraceful experience. Dominant presence of displeasure emanating from employees towards customers. Racist, rude and lazy! – Racist, rude and lazy! The women were speaking very rudely about a customer who was of another nationality, laughing, belittling and insulting them when they left the store, not realising I was in there and was within hearing distance. Condescending lazy self absorbed dishonest embarrassment to bullion sellers – The ladies quoted me a higher price for some bullion coins than their current webpage price. When informed their online price was cheaper, they agreed and lowered it. The excuse was surprising and a warning, they said that the first price was what they had printed out that morning, it was near closing and late afternoon when I wanted to purchase.… Read more

Not everyone is aware, but the bullion price is dynamic and is always checked at sale and along with their margin a transaction price is quoted 'on the spot'.

I can be sure that if I was selling, they would have checked the spot price and made their buy offer based on this. The way the older sales ladies kept talking over the lady I was talking to was also rude, as were the snide remarks and dismissive manner.

never going back – Beware!!! Adelaide Exchange may not give you the quoted buy back price when selling bullion to them. When this was queried they offered an extra $15.00 per kilo. This was was eventually… Read more

increased by another $20.00 per kilo, still $18.00 below the buy back price on their internet site. It was suggested that I take this or come back 'tomorrow' and living over an hour from their store (Hobart) I took their final offer. How can they quote a buy back rate on their web site & when a transaction takes place offer the lowest rate they can get away with? The next day I rang their head office & spoke to a person called Grace who said she would call me back but naturally they didn't call me back. There is nowhere where you can give no stars rating.

Great place – Great place to buy & sell commodities. I bought troy ounces of gold here when gold was at $1,800 an ounce, and I sold it here when gold was at $2,300 an ounce. Shocking would never ever go there again – I would never ever go to this Hobart store ever again, not only was the lady rude but I knew the value of my gold and it was approximately $1500 and they only offered $1050, if I didn't need the money I would of just taken my gold back and walked out in disgust. I calculated the gold price, have the scales, knew each carat value, so knew what… Read more

value I had in gold. The lady didn't do any workings out in front of me, she took it out the back and then come back and said the value. It should of all been calculated in front of me with her telling the prices of each piece as she weighed them, like any normal business would do. When I questioned her she told me 'oh no I didn't anywhere near what you thought'. They advertise they pay the days going rate for gold, if they advertised they pay less than the going price I would totally understand getting less than the gold value I really hope you read this review before you make the mistake of going into this store, I wish I had read the reviews before I did.
