AEG! Extremely Disappointing Dryer! Not Fit For Purpose!! – I purchased this dryer in 2016 (AEG T97689IH, and it has been a constant source of frustration for years and years!! It has NEVER dried clothes properly, despite my diligent efforts to follow all instructions, including thorough cleaning and many service calls. Each time, I was told it was due to the 'condenser' function and that I just needed… Read more

to get used to it. Well I have never got used to it, mostly, after a few hours of wet clothes in the machine, reverting to drying clothes on a line to get the job done! I'm at my breaking point and have decided to get rid of it. I decided to recently check reviews (on the suggestion of my children) and was shocked to see how many others have had the same terrible experience. This dryer was NEVER FIT FOR PURPOSE from the start. Now, I'm left wondering what my options are to pursue this? Any ideas anyone, would be welcome? (As one reviewer said, if there was a 0 star rating, I would give it that!)

Wish I could give Zero stars – This drying does not dry the clothes. It stops when they are still damp and refuses to continue. If you hit time dry it says "not possible". These [Content Removed] are not prepared to let the user of the machine decide when the clothes are dry. Show details

Inadequate product for the price – We purchased this dryer in 2016 for $2400. It worked quite well, however at times the clothes were still damp and it took a long time for the clothes to dry. The dryer stopped working in Feb 2019 midway through a cycle. I contacted AEG and they directed me to a company through which they conduct warranty repairs. After booking a time to get… Read more

someone to come diagnose the problem (motor had seized), order the parts, parts to come in, then book someone to fix the dryer- I had been without a dryer for 3 weeks (not fun during a rainy autumn with a toddler and baby number 2 arriving days later). Everything was okay... until Early June when the buttons and touch screen wouldn’t work making the dryer useless again. We are up to day 9 without a dryer AGAIN (and day 9 of loading the kids in the car and taking wet washing to anyone who will let me use their dryer). When I voiced my concerns with AEG about this being unacceptable and that I wanted a replacement or at very least extended warranty, they told me I needed to take it up with the repairer (Odd that the manufacturer weren’t accepting questions about their own product??). Obviously the repairer directed me back to AEG, where they said to “see how it goes” after this repair, and if something goes wrong again they might look at other options as I still have another year left on warranty. I don’t think it’s much to ask to have a reliable dryer for $2400?? Don’t waste your money believing that it will get you a reliable product (as I unfortunately did). AEG don’t seem to be concerned about providing terrible service or products.

Perfect machine – I have had my AEG T97689IH Lavatherm machine for just on 2 years. Our laundry no longer has peeling paint and everything does not become mouldy due to the condenser, and recycling heat exchanger. It’s a great machine that is very economical and I’ve got use to the longer drying cycles compared to my old dryer that lasted 15 years. However the AEG… Read more ·  1

model is much kinder on my clothes. My one complaint is that the machine will stop when clothes are still very damp, and I need to finish them off on “time dry” setting. This is more prevalent when I’m drying doonas and throw rugs. No biggie, just very annoying. On a side issue, the Eco setting is always on and I am unable to turn it off. I want to decide when it is on or off, as I wish to be able to dry my clothes without the machine turning off before they are dried. I have googled how to turn Eco off, as instructions are not in manual, however there’s is nothing on the net. Very frustrated it having a machine decide this with no option!!

Good machine .... but – Bought this dryer just over three years ago and it has (had) been excellent after a bit of experimentation about what settings worked best with particular types of fabrics. In a climate where a dryer is closer to a necessity than a luxury the good energy efficiency and ability to run a dryer without pumping more humidity into the house have been… Read more ·  2

appreciated. At a rough guess it has run for over 1500 hours since new. Anyway, the motor blew up a few days ago and the replacement will be in the order of $500 (plus the labour) which is about $200 more than I paid for my previous base model Hoover dryer which was still running fine after 14 years when I passed it on to my niece. Admittedly that was in Queensland where a dryer can gather dust through lack of use rather than my current location in Tasmania but still causing a bit of concern about newer AEG quality. On the other hand, I have owned a couple of apparently indestructible AEG washing machines which I suspect are still out there somewhere making the world a cleaner place. Would I buy another AEG dryer? Not if I lived in Queensland or anywhere having a dryer was an occasional convenience. Basically I could buy a new Hoover every year and throw the old one away and still be ahead financially. In Tasmania, maybe ... but I would sure be checking reliability reviews first.

Great, love my dryer – I've had this dryer for about 2 years now. During this time, it has dried almost every load washed for my family of 6. Took a little bit to get used to chosing the best settings for each load, but works like a charm now. Love my dryer and don't want to think of life without it. Show details

Terrible! Stay away from this dryer – We bought this dryer 2nd hand for a hefty price during covid - biggest mistake ever! Our clothes never dry on any of the cycles, they're always smelly so the clothes need to be rewashed, the cycle just stops when the clothes are still damp, its horrendous! Awful : need to soak up water at bottom of machine and drain condenser with every use – A very difficult machine - the worst I’ve ever experienced. It will only dry clothes on ‘cotton, extra dry’ setting ... and that takes just over 2hrs. The water container never collects any water. I have to pull out the condenser and drain it after every load, and use a microfibre towel to mop up excess water at the bottom of the machine. This… Read more

A dryer that doesn’t dry – Very disappointing for the price. Only one function almost works - and that’s the 3hr cotton cycle with the sun. Still hit or miss if it actually fully dries. Definitely doesn’t dry things if they are put in already half dry. Purchased early 2019. Haven’t tried to sell it yet because I’d feel bad selling a dryer that I know isn’t reliable...  Show details

Nothing but troubles – We purchased the AEG Lavatherm Dryer and an AEG washing machine when we moved into our new home. a repair person out for a week. We have a busy family with both of us working so not having access to our dryer for a week is actually a substantial issue for us. It also recently had a bust belt that had to be replaced only some months before hand. Our matching washing machine we purchased from AEG has had nothing but troubles too including the drum falling out and having been replaced (that is why this is not a 1 star review as they did suggest a new replacement for the washing machine). As I could not wait a week for a dryer this time, I actually had to purchase a second dryer (NOT AEG!!!). Not remotely happy with AEG appliances for the price we paid and will never purchase an AEG product again in the future.

Damp clothes will not repeat a cycle – This machine was talked up by the consultant at the store and I had to wait 6 weeks for it to be delivered. It doesn’t dry clothes on any cycle effectively. Love this dryer! – We brought this dryer based on its wide range of functions, length of warrenty and it's 7 star energy rating. I read a lot of reviews regarding heatpump condenser dryers and see many people complain about the washing not getting dry. At first touch ( immediately out of dryer) I thought the same but by the time I got upstairs it's dry to the touch.… Read more

Most people believe your laundry needs to be dry as a board, but for softness and longevity it is not. Admittedly when items (fabrics) are mixed it will sense the driest item first and end cycle but with the wide choice of settings there are more options, as there is also for how dry you want your washing dried. I now am able to dry hand knitted woolen jersey's with absolutely no shrinkage and have also used the outdoor setting for raincoat's. I have also noticed my clothing and towels are softer. I am glad I didn't listen to the bad reviews. You can always call the manufacturer for recommendations / troubleshooting and with Harvey Norman 14 no questions asked return you have nothing to loose.

Average dryer – Very disappointed with this dryer. I dry most clothes on our clothes line and with my old Miele dryer was able to put towels etc in the dryer after to soften them. A dryer that doesn’t dry clothes? – Fact - this dryer does not dry clothes. It takes some of the moisture out but leaves them feeling moist. They are not dry enough to fold and put away. Also annoyingly you have to take the clothes out at the end of the cycle immediately or else the moisture that was removed goes back in. Neither Harvey Norman where I bought the machine or AEG are prepared to do anything to address the fact I have paid good money for a product that does not dry clothes.

function clothes are super dry and hot like a vented dryer. I have worked out that these dryer are actually not meant to totally dry out the clothes by not drying clothes out to a crisp I am able to hang them up wrinkle free and so much gentler to the material. I now also use about 6 cents an hour rather than 30 cents a hour, while drying time is double it is still a lot cheaper. This machine is super quiet. You are able to save the water and use as demineralised ironing water that smells like fresh washing. Only negative I can think of is it is not wall mountable but I prefer to have them stacked to it is easier to remove washing and I am able to store washing baskets on top. I love that all the moist air is not blown into my house which was causing mould in my house, each load I empty about 5-6l of water out of the container, I have now plumbed the hose into my drain so never have to empty the container. I can imagine repair will be a lot more expensive but that comes with the territory of having expensive advanced machines. I am converted and wish I had bought one year's ago!!!
